Survived by four children, Edward (Sally) Hodges, Bette (Gordon) Swaback, Kenneth Hodges, Susan (James) Longmire; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; sister, Elsie Pierce; also survived by nieces and nephews.
Born in London. She was a lifelong Joliet/Elgin resident.

Mary Virginia Kees McGrail
Mary Virginia Kees McGrail, 77, of Elgin died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 in Sherman Hospital from Acute Leukemia within five days of diagnosis.
She was born in Hudson, Wis. on April 4, 1924, the daughter of John Coleman and Minnie (Christensen) Kees.
She was a graduate of Hamlin University School of Nursing, St. Paul, Minn. She was a resident of Elgin since 1965 and was retired from Public Health Nursing for the State of Illinois in 1998. She was a former industrial nurse for Shakeproof/ITW in Elgin and a former Registered Nurse at Hudson Memorial Hospital, Hudson, Wis. She attended Willow Creek Community Church, South Barrington. Mary loved to travel with her family, eat good food, go to church and be with her children and grandchildren. She helped all who asked, cared for the sick, and befriended the lonely, had unceasing generosity, stamina in adversity and zest for living "with a touch of class". She dedicated her entire life to her family, her friends and nursing. Mary will be greatly missed. Mary was a decedent of William Steets, original settler of Hudson, Wis. and William Morrison, Explorer.
Survivors include her children, Jeane Kathryn McGrail of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., John Edwin McGrail and Catherine(Kenneth) Saffle, both of Elgin; her grandchildren, Jacob Lee and Alicia Dawn McGrail, Christopher Kenneth, Cody Robert, Nicholas Kees and Rebekah Saffle; great-grandchildren, Katie, Armando, Alexis, Alijah and Alexander McGrail; her brother-in-law, William L. Pollock of Hudson, Wis.; nieces and nephew, Carol Jean (Jay) Pollock, Sharon Lee Pollock, Rob (Shari) Pollock; great nieces, Marina and Tracy Pollock and Jessica Ruehrmand. She is also survived by many dear friends especially Edwin Praeger, Sue Meegan and Eldon Schulz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Kees Pollock; aunts, Lettie Christensen, Edna (Louis) Lunecek and Vera Christensen; uncles, Alfred Helmer, Sigurd, Carl and Fred Christensen.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, the Rev. Dr. Tom Potenza officiating. Burial will be in Willow River cemetery, Hudson, Wis.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
L. Winifred O'Connor
L. Winifred O'Connor, 97, of Elgin passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 in Sherman West Court, Elgin.
She was born on June 22, 1904, the daughter of Lewis and Engelina Querhammer.
Winifred was a longtime member of the Elgin Woman's Club. She was also very active in Politics, served as a Republican Poll Judge for many years as well as serving on local and national committees. Along with her varied interest, Winifred enjoyed traveling in the United States, as well as Europe and Asia.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. O'Connor, whom she married
on Aug. 7, 1941; and two brothers, Benjamin and Alvin Querhammer.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Algonquin cemetery, Algonquin.
Visitation will be 10 a.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.
Nancy A. Page
Nancy A. Page, 71, of East Dundee, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin.
She was born in Elgin on Dec. 10, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Alice (nee Gile) Rosborough.
Nancy was a lifelong resident of the Dundee and Elgin areas. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elgin. She was a former 36 year employee of School District #300 Transportation Department where she worked as a bus driver and bus route dispatcher.
Survivors include four children, Terrill Page of Carpentersville, Michael (Mary) Page of Wisconsin, Hilery Page of East Dundee and Stacy (William) Gahlbeck of East Dundee; four grandchildren, Kelly, Joshua, Amy and Zachary; five great-grandchildren, Steven, Brandon, Dalton, Jacob and Hanna; and a brother, Frank (Gayle) Rosborough, Jr. of Elgin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne "Hozie" Page in 1984; and a sister, Barbara Thiede.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14 in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, the Rev. Peter Boeve officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Washington Reformed cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m., Thursday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Hazel E. Hennessy
Hazel E. Hennessy, 86, of West Dundee, formerly of Gilberts, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at the Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. She was born in Huntley on June 13, 1916. She was the daughter of Albert and Ella (nee Kauffman) Lamz.
Hazel was a lifelong resident of the Dundee - Gilberts area. A long time member of St. Mary Church of Gilberts and the Alter and Rosary Society at St. Mary's. She was a former Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and former volunteer at St. Catherine School Library.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Sandra (George F., III, DDS) Deihs of West Dundee and Gayle (Richard E., MD) Besinger of Downers Grove; five granddaughters, all whom she loved and was very proud of, Erin, Emily and Elyse Besinger and Katie and Laura Deihs; two sisters, Shirley (the late Warren "Fritz") McMillan of Gilberts and Bertha (the late Elmer) Schmoldt of Arlington Heights; many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph F. Hennessy on June 17, 1982. They married
on July 31, 1940; one sister, Ella Hagen; five brothers, Edward, John, Harry, William and Raymond Lamz.
Funeral Services will be on Friday, September 13, 2002 at 11:00 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.

Daniel H. Hupe
Daniel H. Hupe 34, of Algonquin, formerly of Elgin, passed away Monday, September 9, 2002 in Aurora from injuries sustained in a work related accident. He was born October 2, 1967 in St. Charles, the son of Franklin and Barbara Whitaker Hupe.
He was a graduate of Burlington High School in 1986 and a graduate of the University of Illinois. He was employed by Alliance Contractors Inc. of Woodstock. He enjoyed all sports and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Castoro Hupe; two children, Ryan age 3 and Justin age 1; his father and step-mother, Franklin (Martha) Hupe of Elgin; one brother, David; three sisters, Jenny, Shauna and Sheila; step-brother, Michael (Jana) Mitzel; and step-sister, Tamara Smith.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in Prairie cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be held Thursday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at the church.

Anna F. Knox
Anna F. Knox, 87, of DeKalb, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2002 at the DeKalb Co. Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born March 24, 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of John and Mary (Krushefska) Walczak.
Anna was born and raised in Michigan and married
Alfred L. Knox on May 3, 1931. They resided in Michigan, Illinois, California, Montana and retired to Barb City Manor in DeKalb.
Surviving are a son, Phillip (Dorothy) Knox of Burlington; daughters, Glenna (Galen) Smith of DeKalb and Irene (Ray) Cox of Hamilton, Montana; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred on October 1, 1999; a daughter, Patricia Docter in 1997; son, Harold in 1940; granddaughter, Tammy L. Baie in 1998; and three brothers and sisters.
Private Memorial Services will be held at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire, with the Rev. Keck N. Mowry officiating. Burial will be in the Amble cemetery in Amble, Michigan.
There will be no visitation.

Glenn G. Koehring
Glenn G. Koehring, 73, of South Elgin, passed away Monday, September 9, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. Glenn was born June 25, 1929 in Dundee, the son of George and Carrie Graffelman Koehring.
Glenn was a graduate Of Elgin High School and had been a longtime resident of South Elgin and was an active member of the community. He served as scout leader for Pack 44 in South Elgin, helped establish little league teams in South Elgin in the 1960's and coached for 7 years. He was a member of the South Elgin Lion's Club, serving as president in 1970-71. Glenn was a retired painter of 26 years from Local Painters Union 154, where he had served as Treasurer and he also had worked for C.E. Jakes Decorating.
Glenn was a U.S. Army veteran, where he served as Master Sergeant in the 196th field artillery in Korea from 1949-52.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin.
He will always be remembered by his family, friends and anyone he met for the loving, caring person he was.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Mang Koehring; three sons, Edward (Rebecca) Koehring of Elgin, Scott (Barbara) Koehring of Elgin and Greg (Christine) Koehring of Elgin; five grandchildren, Eric, Ryan, Jennifer, Michelle and Matthew; one sister, Verna Gamble of Carpentersville; and one brother, Martin Koehring of Sandwich, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Marlin, Oland and Norman; and three sisters, Vera, Lela and Helen.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Friday from 10:30 AM until the time of Mass at the church.

Elmer F. Mensching, Loving husband of Eleanor (nee Jensen), beloved father of Donald (Karen), proud grandfather of Jonathan (Carolyn), Bethany, Peter and the late Kathryn, dear son of the late Martin and Clara Mensching, fond brother of Mabel (the late Martin) Rosenwinkel, and the late Dorothy (the late Edward) Hoppensteadt.

Richard E. Miller
Richard E. Miller, 65, of Elgin passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. He was born January 6, 1937 in Chicago, the son of Einer and Margaret Christensen Miller.
He had been a resident of the Elgin and Dundee area most of his life. He was employed by C.A.I. Corp. in Barrington before retiring.
Surviving are two children, Janet (Shawn) Tankersley of Barre, Mass. and Jason Miller of Elgin; two grandchildren, Shawna and Kyle; three brothers, Arvid (Cindy) Miller of Elgin, Arden (Karen) Miller of Union, IL. and David (Patricia) Miller of Grants Pass, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Norman Meyer, Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Union, officiating. Estella M. Schnadt "Stella"
Estella M. Schnadt, age 97, of Richland Center, died on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at the Schmitt Woodland Hills Health Center. She was born on December 9, 1904 in Ontarioville, Illinois to Herman W. and Carrie (Thurnau) Schnadt. Stella worked at the Bartlett State Bank in Bartlett, Illinois for over 30 years and retired as a bank officer. She was the founder and troop leader of the Bartlett Girl Scout Troop. For 35 years, she was the church organist and sang in the choir at the Immanuel United Church of Christ Church in Bartlett, IL. She was an avid golfer and very active in local community affairs.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Carrie Wilson of Shorewood, WI, William Schnadt of Bishop, CA, Glenn Schnadt of Richland Center, Dorothy Heinberg of Bartlett, IL, Paul Heinberg of Sun City, AZ, Helen Canning of DeKalb, IL; several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Bartlett, IL. Rev. James Benzing will officiate. Burial will be in the Lakewood Memorial Park cemetery. The family has suggested that memorials may be made to the Schmitt Woodland Hills Auxiliary or the Immanuel United Church of Christ Church.
