Laurence A. Benedetto
Laurence A. Benedetto, 80, of Hot Springs Village, Ark. died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001.
He was a fourth Degree Faithful Navigator with the Knights of Columbus, part of the St. Edwards Booster Club, St. Edwards scorekeeper of 25 years, worked for Commonwealth Edison for 36 years and a Veteran of the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie (Hann) Benedetto of Hot Springs Village; three sons, Craig (Brenda), Dale and Mark (Irene) Benedetto; three daughters, Judith (William) Spies, Denise Ostrander and Camille (John) Keller; a sister, Margaret Davis of Hot Springs Village; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cecilia Wilson; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.

Marion Christophersen
Marion Christophersen, 82, of Elgin died Thursday, September 20, 2001 in Manor Care Health Services in Northbrook.
She was born March 24, 1919 in Elgin, the daughter of Daniel and Eva Mock.
She had been a resident of Elgin most of her life.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Royer of Arlington Heights, IL; two grandchildren, Heather (Pat) Reinecke and Christopher (MariJo) Royer; and a sister, Shirley (Dr. Harry) Hill of Joliet, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold in 1982; and a sister, Dorothy Warren.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Steven Srock officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Henry T. Klingberg
Henry T. Klingberg, 81, of Elgin passed away Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Sherman Hospital.
Henry was born May 7, 1920 in South Dakota and lived in Elgin since the age of three.
In 1941, Henry proudly served the United States for five years during World War II as a Sergeant in the Army Air Force. Upon returning home from the was, he married Virginia J. Wicknick and was blessed with three children. Henry was a sports enthusiast and an avid fisherman-enjoying fishing trips from Florida to Canada and Alaska, with his favorite spots in Kentucky, Wisconsin and Minnesota. He was a parishioner and board member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge # 737 and he and his fellow friends at the Elks Lodge enjoyed golfing with the Elks Golf League. Henry was also an active member of the Elgin Golden K. Kiwanis Club, in which he devoted his time to the Crisis Center food pantry and other volunteer activities. Henry was employed with the Illinois Bell Telephone Company for ten years and then entered into his own business of Real Estate developing in 1957, retiring in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Linda K. Klingberg of Coconut Grove, Florida; two sons, Leslie M. (Margaret) Klingberg of Barrington, IL and Rollin D. Klingberg of Sunnyvale, California; three wonderful grandchildren, Kim (Don) Radke, Scott Klingberg and Heather Klingberg; and a sister, Ruth Tobin of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. and Mamie Klingberg; a sister, Caroline McKracken; and a brother, Kenneth Klingberg.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11:30 AM in the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin with Dr. Robert Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 PM.
Memorials may be given to the Leukemia Foundation.

Phyllis J. Kurth
Phyllis J. Kurth, 72, of Elgin passed away Sunday, September 23, 2001 in the Rosewood Care Center, Elgin.
She was born December 10, 1928 in Elgin, the daughter of Edward and Ruth (Rahn) Schuring.
She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life. She was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1947, she loved to attend Elgin High School basketball games and is in the Coaches Hall of Fame. She was employed by Provena St. Joseph Hospital as a Registered Nurse for 41 years before retiring in 1992. She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. She was a 1946 Job's Daughter Honor Queen.
Surviving are two sons, William W. (Kimberly) Kurth Jr. of Elgin and Edward P. (Francisse) Kurth of Elgin; a grandson, Cody James Kurth; a step granddaughter, Samantha Serna; a brother-in-law, Donald Hahn of Elgin; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Stading of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, William W. Kurth, Sr. in 1997.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Paul Meyers and Jackie Johnson, R.N. officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cornerstone United Methodist Church or the Diabetes Foundation.

Celestino "Les" Mancilla
Celestino "Les" Mancilla, 84, of Elgin passed away Friday, September 21, 2001 in his home.
He was born November 18, 1916 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, the son of Antonio and Edner Britt Mancilla.
He had been a resident of Elgin since 1990. He had been employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad as a Roadmaster before retiring and was currently working at the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin. He loved to play golf and in 1969 he made a hole-in-one.
Surviving are his loving companion, Kathleen A. Lipprandt; three daughters, Patricia Schue of Elgin, Linda Senecal of Elgin and Frances (Phil) Alexander of St. Charles; a son, Charles (Claire) Mancilla of Elgin; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; his wife, Betty Mancilla of Elgin; two sisters, Nora Mancera of California and Lola Bell of Aurora, IL; a brother, Bus (Lola) Mancilla of Oregon; a step son, Robert (Lori) Payne of Hanover Park; a step daughter, Angela Payne of Nashville, TN; and several loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Antoinette; and a great granddaughter, Dana.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 10 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 to 9 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.

Bernadene I. Meharry
Bernadene I. Meharry, 95, of Carpentersville died Saturday, September 22, 2001 at the home of her daughter.
She was born in Chicago on November 28, 1905, the daughter of Joel and Dorothy Maude (nee Buckles) Bower.
She was a 33 year resident of Carpentersville. She attended and was a friend of the Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church. She was a former many years employee of Time-Life Publishing of Chicago.
She is survived by three children, Jaunita (Ken) Miller of Carpentersville, June Koch of Bayonet Point, Florida and Gene (Chris) Meharry of Clearwater, Florida; grandmother of Douglas and Dara; great grandmother of two; great great grandmother of two.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Meharry in 1965; a grandson, Kendall David Miller in 1965; a granddaughter, Cheryl Forman in 1992.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday at 11:30 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 9 PM in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager Avenue, Barrington, Illinois, 60010.

William "Bill" Olesen
William "Bill" Olesen, 86, passed away Wednesday evening, September 19, 2001 at Asta Care of Elgin where he has made his home for the past several years.
Bill was born August 16, 1915, the son of Ole and Albertine (Hanson) Olesen in Sycamore, IL.
He grew up in Lily Lake and attended Lily Lake Consolidated High School. Following school he worked the family farm until his enrollment into the Civilian Conservation Corp on October 24, 1935. Bill met the love of his life at a party in Elmhurst and a year later on April 18, 1942, Bill and Frieda Ermisch were united in marriage at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Forest Park, IL. One month later, on May 8th, Bill was drafted to serve his country during World War II. He fought in the European, African and the Middle Eastern Theatres until his honorable discharge on September 24, 1945. During his time overseas in Naples, Rome, South France, the Rhineland and Central Europe as a tank commander and was awarded a Silver Battle Star, Bronze Service Arrowhead, five Overseas Service Bars, one Service Stripe and a Good Conduct Medal.
Upon his return to civilian life, Bill drove a semi truck for F. Landon Cartage Company in Chicago until 1949 when he returned to the farm of his youth. Bill also worked for Hummel Lumber Co. in Wasco in the Early 1960's until his retirement in August of 1980. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working on his garden and lawn, as well as spending time woodworking.
Bill had a quiet but determined spirit with a generous and warm heart. He was quick to lend a hand to anyone who asked, contributing to many charities. He also loved to play cards. His family was his number one priority. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Bill was also a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Lily Lake and American Legion Wasco Post #1195.
He leaves his loving wife, Frieda; three daughters, Karen Leonard of Elgin, IL, Connie (Gregorio) Orbeta of West Chicago, IL and Jean (Lee) Bowgren of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Bradley (Sherri) Hampel and their children, Zachary and Mac of Milwaukee, WI, Boyd Muirhead and his son, Ares of Elgin, IL and Kelly Leonard of Geneva, IL; a brother-in-law, Walter Mink; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He joins now, his parents; his special aunt and uncle, Mary and Joe Hanson; eight siblings, Edward, Edmund, George, Roy, Harold, Elmer, Hilda Madsen and Helen Mink; and a son-in-law, Robert Leonard.
A private family funeral service to celebrate his life was held Sunday, September 23, 2001 at Conley Funeral Home, Elburn with Rev. Calvin Culpepper, pastor of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Plano, IL officiated and interment was held at Lily Lake cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his name and mailed to P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL, 60119.

Steven Svatik
Steven Svatik, 87, of Marengo died on Friday, September 21, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center, Woodstock.
He was born on July 14, 1914 in Chicago, the son of John and Elizabeth (Placko) Svatik.
On June 27, 1942, he married Maxine Svatik in Bensenville, Illinois. Steven was a farmer in the Algonquin area for 42 years.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Marengo; a son, Richard Svatik of Marengo; and a daughter, Sandra (Larry) Dobbs of Algonquin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Martin Svatik; and a sister, Elizabeth Grek.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 24, 2001 at the Marengo-Union Funeral Home from 3 to 8 PM and will continue on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 from 9 AM until the time of Services at 11 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Glen Borhart officiating. Interment will be held at the Marengo City cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.

Maria Abitua
Maria Abitua, age 50, of Elgin passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at her home. She was born January 21st 1952 in San Juan Texas, and was the daughter of Eulogio and Maria Abitua.
She is survived by three loving daughters Angelina (Robbie) Abitua-Green, Elizabeth and Megan Abitua all of Elgin, two sisters Elida (Bill) Murray of Genoa, Inez (Pat Hefferan) Gotheridge of Elgin, three brothers Robert (Stiphanie) Abitua of Col. Springs, CO, Tony (Patty) Abitua of Kingston and Frank (Tina) Abitua of West Dundee. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews: Jose, Sally, Jose, Andy, Kenny, Anthony, Valerie, John, Kristi, Becky, Carlos, Miguel, Ginna, Jason, Justin, Pam, Taylor and Frank.
She was preceded in death by her father Eulogio Abitua and a brother Gerardo.
Visitation 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at O'Connor & Homeier Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be at River Valley Memorial Gardens.

Cruz Moreno Galvan
Cruz Moreno Galvan, 89, of Elgin, died Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Sherman Hospital.
She was born May 3, 1913 in Mercedes, Texas to Manuela and Lorenzo Moreno.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose A. Galvan; son, Adolfo Galvan; granddaughter, Cheryl Anne Givilancz; and parents, Lorenzo Moreno and Manuela Estrada.
She is survived by her children, Ofira (Charles) Givilancz, Jose Arturo (Mary) Galvan, Carlos (Argentina) Galvan, Eliazar (Consuelo) Galvan and Maria (Joseph) Pompa; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at O'Connor and Homeier Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at 10:30 AM. Fr. Edward Seisser will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 24, 2002 from 5-9 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mercy cemetery, Mercedes, Texas.

John Douglass McCall
John Douglass McCall, 70 of Dundee passed away Monday, September 16, 2002 in Crystal Lake.
He was born March 30, 1932 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of Gordon and Myrtle McCall.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. On June 4, 1955, he married Edna Creech in Milwaukee.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years; a daughter, Lori (James) Sprague of Dexter, Michigan; a son, John (Michele) McCall; two grandsons, Kent and Clark Sprague; two granddaughters, Hannah and Emily McCall; two brothers, Charles (Nota) of Mt. Vernon, Ohio and Wayne (Vivian) of Lufkin, Texas; four nephews; and two nieces.
Graveside services were held at Dundee Township East cemetery.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Service, Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 2:30 PM in the First Congregational Church, Crystal Lake.
Memorials to Crystal Lake Noon Rotary Club; Rotary International Foundation; Hospice of Northeastern Illinois or the charity of one's choice.
