Martha "Toots" A. Steurer, 77, of Garden Prairie, IL, died Sunday, September 22, 2002 at St. Anthony Medical Center Rockford, IL.
She was born on November 25, 1924 in McHenry, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Susan Wagner Boxleitner. On June 16, 1956 in Marengo, IL she married
Derwin H. Steurer. Martha was a 1943 graduate of Marengo High School, graduated from St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin until 1956. From 1956 until her retirement in 1984 she was employed as Arnold Engineering Industrial Nurse.
She is survived by her husband of Garden Prairie; children, Edward D. Steurer of Marengo and Master Sgt. John (Jody) Steurer of Wichita Falls, TX; a step-son Fred Steurer of Garden Prairie; two grandchildren, Kelly and Matthew Steurer; three step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Sarah Carlson and a brothers, Charles Boxleitner.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at the Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy. Marengo, IL with a Christian Wake service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 323 N. Taylor St. Marengo. Martha Zoellner
Martha Zoellner, 82, of Elgin, passed away Monday, September 23, 2002 in her home. She was born July 10, 1920 in Germany and was the daughter of Paul and Hedwig (Matschej) Kowalski.
Martha came here along with her family from Germany in 1954. She owned and operated the Old Heidelberg Tavern in Barrington, IL. until 1973. Martha then worked for Ace Coffee Bar, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Legion Post #57 Auxiliary and Women of the Moose Lodge #799.
Survivors include four children, Inge (Jerry) Keller, Dieter (Carole) Zoellner, Gunter Zoellner and Ed (Jamie) Zoellner; nine grandchildren, John, Jim, Joy and Ed Keller, Christma King, Monica Pyle, Cameron Zoellner, Christian Zoellner and Casey King.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Hildegard Schoenefelder.
Private Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2002 in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 from 5-8:00 PM in the funeral home.

John Glennon Blocker
John Blocker of Elgin, IL passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born January 8, 1917 in St. Louis, MO, the son of John and Mary Blocker.
He married
Genevieve Meyer in 1936. He was a member of St. Thomas More Church in Elgin. He was a World War II Veteran and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He is survived by one sister, Delores (Sis); sons, John (Bonnie) Blocker of Polo, IL, Jack Blocker of Sumner, IL, Jerry (Dorothy) Blocker of Elgin, IL, David (Pat) Blocker of Elgin, Mike (Marsha) Blocker of Elgin, Larry (Betty) Blocker of Missoula, Montana; a daughter, Dottie (Dave) Starin of Elgin; a daughter-in-law, Jean Blocker of Lincoln, IL; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve in 1987 and his son Jim in 2002.
Funeral services for John Blocker will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Flora, IL on September 26, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Stephen's cemetery. Visitation will be held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora prior to the church service on September 26, 2003.

Lyle M. Conway, 95, formerly of Elgin died. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 12 noon in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Elgin.
Gordon W. Elrick
Gordon W. Elrick, age 85, of Champaign, IL, formerly of Elgin died Wednesday, September 17, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born April 4, 1915 in Chicago to Frank and Helen (Doherty) Elrick.
Gordon was an intrument technician, and was employed by Elgin National Watch and later by International Harvester Co. He married
Ruth Ellen (Howe) Elrick on February 28, 1943 and she preceded him on December 20, 1991. While in Elgin he was a member of Elgin Golden Kiwanis, Lords & Ladies Square Dance Club, and was a volunteer at Elgin Crisis helping in the Nursery.
Survivors include his son, Douglas (Ellen) Elrick of Champaign, IL; his daughter-in-law, Maggie Elrick of Elgin; his grandchildren, John P. Elrick of Elgin, IL, Theodore (Mollisa) Elrick of St. Louis, MO., Katherine Ann Elrick of Elgin, IL, Scott (Ellen) Elrick of Champaign, IL, Todd D. (Zoe) Elrick of Boston, MA, and Lynne M. Elrick of Champaign, IL; one great-grandson, Kelvin Q. Elrick of Boston, MA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth Ellen (Howe) Elrick; his son, William Elrick and his daughter, Katherine Elrick.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel. Gwen Gage will conduct services. Chauncey "C.J." Fowler, Jr.
Chauncey Fowler Jr. "C.J.", 77, of Elgin passed away Sunday, September 21, 2003 at his home. He was born September 1, 1926 in Elgin and was the son of Chauncey and Alice (Rahn) Fowler. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1944. He was a United States Navy Veteran, having served aboard a P.T. boat Squadron in the South Pacific during W.W.II. He was recalled during the Korean War and served aboard the USS Gallup. He was united in marriage to Ruth Bennett on October 22, 1949.
He worked in sales management for over 30 years for Cla-Val Co. before retiring. He was a long time member of the Methodist faith. He was a 50 year member of Elgin Lodge No. 117 AF & AM, a member of the Scottish Rite of Chicago, the Tebala Temple and EL Bekal Shrine Temple, a member of American Water Works Association, and a member of Golden K Kiwanis Club as well as several other service organizations.
Surviving are three daughters, Sharon (Dave) O'Hara of Elgin, Karen (Ron) Morse of Rochester, MN, Cynthia (Paul) Mellen of Elgin; one son, Craig (Lynn) Fowler of Rice Lake, WI; six grandchildren, Mandy, Brian, Glenn, David, Carlton, and Andrew; three great-grandchildren, Seth, Aiden and Angela; one brother, Richard (Betty) Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth on August 26, 1990; one brother, Lamont "Monty".
Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 25 at 10:00 a.m. in the Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Sung-Ja Lee Moon officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Helen Anthony Goyer
Helen Anthony Goyer, 79, of Elgin died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at home. She was the daughter of Paul and Mary (Alexander) Anthony.
She was retired from the Air Force, where she worked for the Pentagon as an office clerk. She served in the Army Corp for two years during World War II, where she attained the rank of Corporal before being given her honorable discharge. She was a member of the Elgin American Legion Post #57.
She is preceded in death by her husband William Ulysses Goyer, and her parents.
She is survived by her adopted family, Mr. and Mrs. Abel (Laura) Zavala of Elgin.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elgin, with Fr. Manual Mendez officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the O'Connor-Leetz Funeral Home, 364 Division Street, Elgin. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park cemetery.
Marlene J. Holmer
Marlene J. Holmer, 53 of Carpentersville passed away Sunday, September 21, 2003 at her home. She was born October 3, 1949 in Chicago, the daughter of L. Vincent and Shirley Brodhage Richter. She moved to Carpentersville at the age of 6. She was a graduate of Irving Crown High School and Elgin Community College. She was employed by Dr. Robert Bronski in Elgin.
She loved nature and to garden. She was active at the Food Pantry at Willow Creek Community Church.
She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gilberts and attended Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington.
Surviving are her husband, Charles B. "Chuck" Holmer, whom she married
on April 17, 1971; a daughter, Jannee (Brendon) Campbell of Algonquin; a son, Aaron (Christina) Holmer of East Dundee; two grandchildren, Eve Campbell and a grandchild due in January; a sister, Cheryl (Stephan) Parish of Elgin; a brother, Timothy (Kathy) Richter of Crystal Lake; her mother-in-law, Mildred A. Holmer of Algonquin; her stepmother, Ruth Richter of Algonquin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, September 28, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 18N377 Galligan Rd., Gilberts. Burial will be private in Dundee Township East cemetery. Flowers are welcome and may be sent to St. Peter's Church or memorials may be given to Provena st. Maze, Sue V.
Sue V. Maze, 85, of St. Charles, died Sunday, September 21, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Chicago. She was born July 4, 1918 in Chicago, the daughter of George and Selemonia (Kartanas) Janulis.
Mrs. Maze was employed for 32 years with Sunbeam Corporation, retiring May 30, 1980. Mrs. Maze is survived by a son, Robert (Sharon) Maze of Pleasanton, CA; a daughter, Cynthia Folkers of Chicago; her grandchildren, Deborah (Jason) Lenz, David (Amy) Maze, Jennifer Maze, Kimberly Folkers, Kenneth (Sarah) Folkers and Steven (Kristy) Folkers; four great grandchildren, Zachary Lenz, Steven Folkers, Mackenzie Lens, and McKenna Folkers.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Maze was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Maze on March 9, 1999; a brother, Charles Jandis; a sister, Vera Dyszel; and her son-in-law, Kenneth Folkers.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003, at the Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third St., St. Charles, where a liturgical wake service will be held at 8:00 p.m.

Richard Ritter
Richard Ritter, 84 of Carpentersville died Sunday at Sherman West Court in Elgin. He was born in Chicago on March 27, 1919 to John and Sophie (nee Billing) Ritter. He was a machinist for Union Special in Huntley and a WWII Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Johanna (nee Hoppe) Ritter; a son, Robert Ritter of Chicago; a daughter, Nancy (Patrick) Lydon of Wheaton; grandchildren, Brian (Olivia) Lydon of Chicago, David Ritter of Madison, WI, Christine Lydon of Hanover Park, Matthew Lydon of Wheaton and Emily Ritter of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Adam Stange; sisters Olga Weeks and Bertha Eurich; brother John Ritter and two nieces.
Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24 in the Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee. Burial will be private. Visitation on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m.

Donald M. Roots
Donald M. Roots, age 77, of Aurora, died Tuesday at the Aurora Manor Nursing Home in Aurora.
He was born August 22, 1926 in Aurora.
Mr. Roots had been a member of the Salvation Army and was a decorated veteran of WWII.
He is survived by two sons, Jim (Linda) Roots of Gurnee and Sean (Katie) of Grayslake. Two grandchildren, Will and Stephen Roots. One brother, James E. Roots of Ottawa, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline M. Roots, also many brothers and sisters.

Robert H. Tuite
Robert H. Tuite, age 83, of Elgin died Sunday, September 7, 2003 at Sherman Hospital. He was born in Galesburg, IL on October 1, 1919, the son of Henry and Ida M. Tuite.
He married
Virginia I. Neuschwanger on January 1, 1943 and she preceded him in death on May 31, 2003.
Robert worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and the American President Lines for 40 plus years. He was a Veteran of W.W.II, serving in the Army. He was active in Jr. Achievement in Chicago and was also an Election Judge. Robert was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a daughter, Penny (Denny) Lee of Elgin; a son, Thomas Tuite of Mt. Carroll, IL; five grandchildren, Chris (Peggy) Lee, Tracy (Pat) Gerdau, Lori (Tim) Stone, Jenny (Vince) Cox, and Sarah Tuite; seven great-grandchildren, Megan, Aaron, Abbey, Heather, Andrew, Stefani, Rachael; two step-great-grandchildren, J.J. and Jimmy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen R. Tuite; his loving wife, Virginia.

Jeanette L. Coffey, 86, of Elgin, died September 23, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital.
She was born July 19, 1916 in Elgin, Illinois to Fred and Alvina Schmidt.
Survivors include, a daughter, Mary Krocka of South Elgin, two sons; Tom Coffey of Elgin, and James Coffey of San Luis Obispo, CA.
