Ann Marie Knott
Ann Marie Knott, 41, of Elgin, passed away Monday, September 23, 2002 in Manor Care Health Services. She was born August 16, 1961 in Elgin and was the daughter of Jack and Mary Anne Knott.
She had been a resident in Elgin all her life and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Surviving are her parents, Jack and Mary Anne Knott of Elgin; two sisters, Joan Knott of Port Charlotte, Florida and Beth (Jim) Miller of Christopher, IL.; and one brother, Kevin Knott of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Theresa, in infancy; and her grandparents.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Interment will be private. There will be no Visitation.

Leonard C. "Lenny" Nissen, Jr.
Leonard C. "Lenny" Nissen, Jr., age 52, of Elgin, IL, died Friday, September 20 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born December 31, 1949 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Leonard C. and Marlys Ann (Peterson) Nissen, Sr.
He had been employed as a landscaper, and was a graduate of Burlington Central High School.
Survivors include his son, Eric (Liza) Nissen-Hawkinson; three brothers, David (Linda) Nissen, Christopher (Barb) Nissen, both of Elgin, and Victor (Joanne) Nissen of Poplar Grove; two sisters, Cheryl (Richard) Machacek of Winthrop, Iowa, and June (Harley) Ronning of St. Michaels, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews; two grandchildren, Brendan and Gage Hawkinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jeffrey Scott Nissen.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 28 at 3 p.m. at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, Elgin. Rev. Mona Walker of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Private burial at Plato Center cemetery.
Visitation will take place after 1 p.m. on Saturday until the time of service.

Walter L. Read
Walter L. Read, 87, of Carpentersville died September 24, 2002, at the Asta Care Center in Elgin.
He was born in Hempstead, Texas on September 7, 1915 to L.M. & Elvie A. Read. He was a WWII Army Veteran, a member of the Lake In The Hills VFW, a member of the American Legion Post #1231 of Lake In The Hills, a member of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Lodge #00048, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elgin, a 36 year member of the Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter Consistory and a member of Monitor Lounsburg A.F.&A.M.; #522 of Barrington.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen B. (nee Beythan). They married
on December 30, 1950 in Elgin, two daughters, Barbara (David) Walling of Sylvania, Michigan, Gail Kloepper of Lake In The Hills, one son, Edgar Read of Zion. Three grandchildren: Mark Winters of Michigan, Mark Kloepper, U.S. Navy Great Lakes, Il, Amber Kloepper of Lake In The Hills, and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Viola.
Funeral Service will be Friday at 11 am in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Visitation on Friday from 9 am until time of Service. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Roland R. Cote
Roland R. Cote, age 66, of Barrington Hills died September 23.
He is survived by his wife, Jan; a son, Timothy (Laurel) Cote; three daughters, Tina Cote, Tracy (William) Wamsley, Teresa (Mark) Seglin; brothers, Edward (Jackie) and Dennis (Doreen); sisters, Lillian Plourde, Gloria (Bob) Eon, Jeanice (Tom) Moran. He was the grandfather of seven.
Friends will gather from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, September 27 at Community Funeral Home, located on Rt. 25, between Rts. 72 and 68, East Dundee.
William McKelvey Damisch
William McKelvey Damisch went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, September 20, 2003 after a long illness. He was at home and his wife and several family members were with him. He was born March 14, 1930 in Springfield, IL to Marie McKelvey Damisch and Herbert Raymond Damisch, and was the fifth generation of his family in Rutland Township. In June of 1936 his family moved to the family farm in Rutland Township where they lived until February of 1942 when Bill's father was called for active duty in the Pacific Theater during World War II. For the next four years, he lived in Elgin and attended Elgin High School, graduating in 1947.
In 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served on active duty until September 13, 1949. He enrolled in the University of Illinois, graduating in 1952. After graduation, he took over the family dairy and grain farm, which he ran for the next 20 years. He quit farming in 1972 and taught history in U-46 School District for the next 22 years.
On June 1, 1956 he married
Barbara June Brines of Elgin. He is survived by his wife, their three children: Kathryn Marie Parker (Jim), William Matthew (Lea) and Major Thomas Andrew (Dorie). He has ten grandchildren: Charles Reed King; Rachel, Bryn, Amanda, Maggie, Hallie, Seth, Caprisha, Robert and Shawnisha Damisch.
Mr. Damisch has been active in numerous political and civic groups. He served for 14 years on the Kane County Board, chairing three different committees, including the Kane County Development Department. He also served 5 1/2 years as a Rutland Township Trustee. He chaired the Western Kane County Republican Organization for 12 years and served as a member of the Kane County Republican Central Committee for 14 years-two years as Finance Chairman. In October of 2002 he was honored as Republican of the Year. He continued to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Kane County Republican Central Committee and as Chairman of the Western Kane County Republican Organization until his passing.
Civically, Mr. Damisch served as President of the Elgin Local, Pure Milk Association; Rutland Township Director of the the Kane County Farm Bureau; member, Elgin Scottish Society; member, the Ulster Genealogical and Historical Society; member of the Rutland Township Historical Society; and member, Mensa Society.
The wake will be held on Friday, September 26 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gilberts. The church is located at 18N377 Galligan Road, midway between Route 72 and the Huntley-Dundee Blacktop.
Funeral services will be held at the church 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 27 with Pastor David Schoenknecht officiating. Special music will be provided by Scottish pipers and drummers; several of his grandchildren, and tenor soloist Dennis Wiggins. Burial will follow at the Memorial Washington Reformed Presbyterian Church cemetery on Highland Avenue in Rutland Township.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Rutland Township Historical Society or to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Building Fund, Phase II. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
Edward F. Engelking
Edward F. Engleking, 81, of Elgin died Tuesday, September 23 at Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago. He was born January 23, 1922 in Elgin to Fred H. and Wealthea (Eddy) Engelking.
Edward attended Udina grade school and graduated from Plato Center High School in 1940. Ed worked at Elgin National Watch Factory until he went into service. He was stationed in San Francisco to an anti-aircraft battalion guarding the California coast during W.W.II. Upon his discharge from service, he attended Elgin National Watch College. He worked in jewelry stores but returned to Elgin Watch where he worked at the Elgin Observatory and in Research and Development until the factory closed. He was then employed at Revcom Optical for 23 years until he retired in 1987. Ed also had a watch repair and crystal fitting business, which he operated from his home, doing work for local jewelry stores until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Elinor J. (VanKirk) Engelking; three sons, David (Juli) of Hampshire, Dale (Jan) of Plato Center, and Douglas (Audrey) of Sycamore; one daughter, Debra Foster of Elgin; granddaughters, Amy (Pat) McAuley of Deer Park, Heather (Chuck) Turner of Elgin, Emily Engelking of Hampshire, Rebecca and Kelly Engelking of Plato Center; two grandsons, Eric Foster of Elgin and Joshua Engleking of Sycamore; one great-grandson, Chuckie Turner of Elgin; two great-granddaughters, Elinor and Hattie McAuley of Deer Park; his brother, Robert of DuBois, WY; two nieces, Paula (Virgil) Babione of DuBois, WY, Caryl and Donna Hayes of Newport Beach, CA; one nephew, Robert of Hawaii; one brother-in-law, Donald Hayes of Pasadena, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Patrick in infancy; his sister, Berniece Hayes.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 535 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin with Rev. Tony Davison officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be on Friday, September 26 between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, Elgin and on Saturday after 9:00 a.m. at the church.

Dorothy Irene Dodge
Dorothy Irene Dodge, 80 of Carpentersville, formerly of Elgin passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born May 19, 1923 in Elgin, the daughter of William and Ida Kopperdale Wenzel. She had been employed by Eagle Foods for over 10 years. She enjoyed cross stitch, crochet and taking care of her flowers and her yard. She married
Earl H. Dodge on November 23, 1940. Dorothy will be sadly missed.
Surviving are her four children, Sandra Shuring of Elgin, Cheryle King of Carpentersville, Dale Dodge of Ely, Minnesota, Melvin (Norma) Dodge of Elgin; ten grandchildren, Tom, Mike, Jim and Phil Shuring, Jeff, Greg, and Troy King, Melissa, Caleb and Tianna Dodge; nine great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl in 1983; two brothers, Clifford and Herbert Wenzel.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
Thomas M. Fielding
Thomas M. Fielding, 49, devoted son and brother, loving husband and father, and cherished friend, passed away on September 22, 2003.
Tom was born February 18, 1954 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated from Marquette University. Following graduation, Tom entered the tile and building supply industry; his work, as a sales manager brought him and his family to Atlanta. In 1987, operating initially out of his basement, Tom and his business partner, Gerald King, began their own ceramic tile business, Ceramic Technics, Ltd., Alpharetta, Georgia, and built it into a highly successful company, selling tile and stone in Georgia, Florida and the Southeast United States.
Tom was loved and respected by his friends as the best example of a caring husband and father, and of what a good man should be. He led a vibrant life, sharing many good times, so it was perhaps fitting that he passed away while playing league basketball, a game he loved to follow at all levels and to play.
Tom was very close to his entire family, and is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joni Fielding and his children, Chris, Nikki, and Kevin Fielding. He is additionally survived by his mother, Mrs. Margaret Fielding and sister Geri Anne Fielding of Elgin, IL, brothers John Fielding of North Canton, Ohio, and David Fielding of West Palm Beach, FL, and their families, and will be deeply missed by many.
The family will receive friends at the wake to be held Thursday, September 25, 2003, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Rd., Roswell, GA. The funeral will be held on Friday, September 26, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 535 Rucker Rd., Alpharetta, GA.
Rev. Marvin A. Fredrickson
Rev. Marvin A. Fredrickson, 71, of Byron, Il died at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, September 19, 2003 in Swedish American Hospital. Born April 23, 1932 in Aurora, IL, son of Erland and Lily (Malmborg) Fredrickson. Lived in Rockford area since 1995, coming from Elgin, IL. married to Elaine I. Nelson in Wheaton, IL on June 18, 1960. He was a teacher for the Elgin Public School District for 25 years, retiring in 1994. Marvin graduated from Wheaton College with his Bachelor of Arts degree and received two Masters Degrees, one from Wheaton College and the second from Northern Illinois University. A veteran of the United States Navy. Member of First Evangelical Free Church, where he was currently serving as an elder. He was an ordained pastor, devoting his life to men's ministry and discipleship. He was a strong family man. He was a wood worker and ship model builder. He was active with the Navigators Organization.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine; daughter, Sharon (Christopher) Kranz of Carpentersville, IL; son, Stephen (Lisa) Fredrickson of Asheville, NC; three grandchildren, Caitlin, Joshua and Zachary Kranz. Predeceased by his parents and his brother, Harley.
Memorial Services at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL with Reverend Brian Erickson officiating and at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Willow Creek Community Church, Barrington, IL with Steve Covell officiating. Mr. Mengarelli was born February 26, 1947 in Chicago, IL. He died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanine R. Mengarelli (nee Hanwell) of Arlington Heights, IL; two sons, Robert (Amy Carlson) Mengarelli of Crystal Lake and Michael (Heather Gonzalez) Mengarelli of Streamwood; his identical twin brother, Ronald (Kay Kummerow) Mengarelli of Gilberts; a sister, Doris (Francis) Golbeck of Elgin; a granddaughter, Marissa Ann Mengarelli; many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Dora Mengarelli; a brother, Guy Jr. at age 8.
Visitation will be at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home on Thursday, September 25, 2003 between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Alice Elizabeth Terry (nee White)
Alice Elizabeth Terry (nee White), 82, of Elgin died Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at her home. She was born September 27, 1920 in Pingree Grove, IL, the daughter of Edwin V. and Mary (Brady) White.
She was a resident of Elgin since 1943. Alice was retired from the Morgan Jones Insurance Company where she had worked for years as a secretary.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Raymond and Francis "Buck" White.
Survivors include her loving husband, Charles Terry, Sr.; a son, Charles (Sharlyne) Terry, Jr.; two granddaughters, Debbi Thornton and Vicki (Charles) Snellgrove; six great-grandchildren, Nicole and Kaycee Thornton, Randal Pfortmiller, C.J., Jacob, and Jordan Snellgrove; one aunt, Loretta Figlewizc; one uncle, Vince (Betty) Brady.
Private graveside services will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Lakewood Memorial Park cemetery. There was no visitation.

Lois A. Abbott
Lois A. Abbott, 84, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001 in Sherman Hospital.
She was born Feb. 1, 1917 in West Chicago. She had been a resident of Elgin for most of her life.
Survivors include three sons, Darryl (Jan) Abbott of Elgin, George C. (Nell J.) Abbott of Endeaver, Wis. and Lonn(Virgene) Abbott of Elgin; eight grand-children; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Abbott in 1998; and a son, Steven Abbott in 1995.
Private services were held in Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Les Turner/ALS Foundation.
Marilyn Gail Chalcraft
Marilyn Gail Chalcraft, 59, of Carpentersville died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 in her home.
She was born in Chicago on Aug. 13, 1942, the daughter of Gail and Mabel Blevins.
She was a 29 year resident of the Carpentersville area.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Harold D., whom she married
on Jan. 3, 1959; two sons, Charles (Cindy) of Carpentersville and Jeffrey (Rhonda) of Genoa; six grandchildren, Steven, Keith, Stacie, Korrie, Stephany and Charles Jr.; a sister, Maxine Gruber of Chicago; and a brother, Marvin Blevins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Grams.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, the Rev. Phil Zilinski officiating. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.
