Lucille Wales
Lucille Wales, 80, of Elgin passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004 in the Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born on February 14, 1924 in Elgin and was the daughter of Paul and Rose (Heimann) Garbrecht. She was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1942. Lucille had worked at Flexonics for many years prior to her retirement.
She is survived by two sisters, Helen (Mervin) Schrader of West Chicago, IL and Gladys (Burton) Taylor of Williams, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, William Wales in 1972.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 6:30 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:30 PM until the time of services.
John Chiapetta
John Chiapetta, 74, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004 at Manor Care Nursing Home, Elgin, IL surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on October 27, 1930 in Chicago, the son of Michael and Rose Chiapetta. He had been a resident of Chicago and Elgin and member of St. Thomas More Church in Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his brother and Dr. Michael (Mary) of St. Charles; two nephews, Mark and Matthew and a niece, Paula in AZ; and five nieces in Illinois, Lisa, Julie, Megan, Lauren and Mallory.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday, November 13, 2004 with Prayers recited at 9:45 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and to St. Thomas More Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Andrew Plesa officiating. Entombment will follow in Mt. Hope cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Friday, November 12, 2004 from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Saturday in the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until prayers. Memorials may be made to the St. Thomas More renovation fund.
Dorothy A. Fakles
Dorothy A. Fakles, 85, of Hanover Park passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Hoffman Estates. She was born October 23, 1919 in Elgin. She had been a resident of the Elgin area all of her life. She was employed by Shakeproof Division of Illinois Tool Works for over 15 years before retiring.
Surviving are her husband, Clarence J. Fakles; two children, Jack Fakles of Elgin and Debbie (George) Lorenzo of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marilyn McDonald and Helen Kowal.
Memorial services will be held Friday, November 12, 2004 at 5:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.
Geraldine "Gerry" Hart
Geraldine Hart, 72, of rural Rochelle died Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at Bernard Hospital, University of Chicago. She was a mother, grandmother, homemaker, helped on the family farm and taught briefly, before her marriage. In 1984, she was diagnosed with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, an incurable lung disease that eventually claimed her life. Her love of God was her strength and she prayed each day that she be able to see her family grow up.
She was born August 23, 1932 in Elgin, IL, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Umdenstock) Dumoulin. On March 19, 1955, she married
Robert C. Hart in Hampshire, IL. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she sang alto in the church choir. She studied piano for many years as a young girl and played the organ in church, during her high school years. She and her husband were often asked to provide music at weddings, funerals and in later years numerous retirement and nursing homes. She also found time to follow her interest in quilt making, gardening, cooking and music. Her devotion and her family were inspiration in her final years.
Her survivors include her husband, Robert C. Hart of Rochelle; one daughter, Susan Hart of Libertyville; four sons, Brian (Crissy) Hart of Malta, Rob (Diane) Hart of Monroe Center, David (Stephanie) Hart of Atlanta, GA and Jonathan Hart of Portland, OR; two brothers, Carl Umdenstock and William (Patricia) Umdenstock, both of Hampshire; six grandchildren, Jeremy Hart, Kyle Hart, Rachel Hart, Alex Politakis, Andrew Hart and Abby Hart; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial Noon, Friday, November 12, 2004 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kelly Dr. and Caron Rd., with Reverend David Peck celebrant. Visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, November 11, 2004 at Lyons Cluts-Simes Funeral Home, 704 N. Sixth St., Rochelle and at church for one hour prior to mass with a wake service 4:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Interment St. Patrick cemetery, Rochelle.

Wendell Louis Perkins
Wendell Louis Perkins, 79, of Huntland, TN, died September 7, 2004, at the Life Care Center in Tullahoma. Mr. Perkins was born in Elgin, IL, the son of the late Sydney L. Perkins and Myrtle Dahlstrom Perkins.
He graduated from Elgin High School in 1942, where he was captain of the varsity football team. Mr. Perkins graduated from Northwestern University in 1947 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Social Fraternity. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was of the Methodist faith. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Gatti Perkins of Huntland; one son, James Perkins of Elgin; one daughter, Wendy Bersche of Las Lumas, NM and one brother, Calvin Perkins of Wilderville, OR. He had 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service was held September 11, 2004, at the Tullahoma Funeral Home in Tullahoma, TN.

Edmund "Ted" Garfield
Edmund "Ted" Garfield, 66, a nine year resident of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Elgin, IL, died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at his home. He was born August 24, 1938 in Illinois and was the owner of T-G Auto Body in Elgin for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gail Mary Garfield; three sons, Irvin (Holly) of Gilberts, IL, Russell of Woodstock, IL and Vincent (Humberto) Garfield of Henderson, NV; a daughter, Dawn (Mike) Dumelle of Lake in the Hills, IL; and two grandchildren, Jay and Mitchell Garfield.

Grace E. Wright
Grace E. Wright, age 84 of Elgin, was born March 16, 1920 in Sioux Falls South Dakota, the daughter of David and Mary (Perry) De Boer. On June 8, 1939 she married
Basil Wright.
She was employed at Illinois Tool Works Shakeproof as a cook.
Survivors include two daughters in-law, Catherine Wright and Margaret "Peggy" Wright both of Elgin. A niece Marilyn Schramm, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Basil on November 10, 1971, and two sons, David and Eugene. Three sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 13, 2004 at Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St. Elgin. Rev. James Fandrey, pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Omission of flowers is requested. Memorial may be made to Elgin Paramedics.
MildRed Rose Bailey
MildRed Rose Bailey, 46, of Elgin passed away Friday, November 7, 2003 in her home.
She was born August 31, 1957 in Chicago, the daughter of Dutch and Mildred Blivens Bailey.
She had been a resident of Elgin for over 25 years.
Surviving are her husband, Michael J. Flickinger; her mother, Mildred Bailey Knox of Elgin; her son, Max; a brother, Dutch 9Carol Jean) Bailey of Hampshire; five sisters, Carol Ann Bailey of CA, Dorothy (Frank) laQuinto of Florida, Debrorah (Rob) Sherman of Elgin, Sharon (John) Kozlowski of Park Ridge and Charlotte "Doc" (Bruce) Herrin of Carterville, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; her son, Raif; her brother, Floyd Bailey for naught in Vietnam in 1967; and her soulmates Ralph Hoberg and Joe Rayfield.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 2 PM at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Hannibal Frederich officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 9 PM in the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Anderson Animal Shelter, South Elgin.
Theodore J. Monick
Theodore J. Monick, 62, of Elgin passed away Sunday, November 9, 2003 in his home.
He was born October 14, 1941 in Canton, Ohio, the son of James and Ethel Alexander Monick.
He had been a resident of Elgin for the past 26 years. He was employed by Packaging Personified in Carol Stream.
Surviving are his daughter, Rebecca (John) Holzer of Elgin; a granddaughter, Amanda; two sisters, Carol (Pete) Corrin of Canton, Ohio and Barb (Russell) Morris of Minerva, Ohio; two brothers, Richard Monick and Robert (Mary Lou) Monick both of Canton, Ohio; and his former wife, Anna Janet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Monick; and a brother, Thomas Monick.
Private funeral services were held at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Lung Association.
Dora L. Kruse
Dora L. Kruse, 90, of Elgin passed away Monday, July 19, 2004 at Apostolic Christian Resthaven Nursing Home, Elgin. She was born January 17, 1914 in Elgin, the daughter of Charles and Louise Willert Kruse. She had been a resident of Elgin all of her life.
Surviving are four children, Marilyn (Phil) Naylor of LaVerkin, Utah, Joyce (Edward) Haines of Hurricane, Utah, Theodore Kruse of Hampshire, and Robert (Jan) Kruse of Elgin; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Gierens of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elroy E. Kruse; one grandson, Theodore Kruse, Jr.; three sisters.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, November 14, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Apostolic Christian Resthaven Nursing Home.
Wanda Jean Schaefer
Wanda Jean Schaefer, age 67, of St. Charles, died Wednesday at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva. She was born May 5, 1937 in Gillham, AR.
She is survived by three sons, Therrell "Bub" (Michelle) Schaefer of Prairie du Chien, WI. Eugene "Joker" (Sheri) Schaefer of St. Charles and Kurt (Melinda) Schaefer of South Elgin; Five daughters, Terry (Kenny) Thorn of St. Charles, Rovena Schaefer of St. Charles, Joyce (Mark) Phillips of Augusta, GA, Lynora (Tony Trovato) Schaefer of Warrenville, and Tanya (John) Ramsey of South Elgin; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce (Lonnie) Burkett of Xenia, IL; two brothers, Therrell (Yvonne) O'Dell of St. Charles and David (Carol) O'Dell of St. Charles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents, Frank and Nadine O'Dell; and two nephews, Leon and Kenny O'Dell.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at the Yurs Wittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State Street (Rte. 38), Geneva. Captain Darren Spencer, officiating. Burial will be at Union cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Harold E. Ackerson
Harold E. Ackerson, 84, of 203 Doud Drive, Normal died Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at 1:40 a.m. at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Normal at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Babyfold or donor's choice.
Harold was born in Princeton, IL on January 30, 1919 to Nels Edwin and Blanche (Tice) Ackerson. He was raised in Polo and Haldane, IL until moving to Plato Center in 1931 where he graduated from high school in 1936.
On January 20, 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was stationed with Antilles Air Command in Puerto Rico for 26 months. On May 12, 1944, he married
Margaret Krea from Elgin; she survives. They lived in Macon, Georgia and Warner Robbins, Georgia until he was discharged October 10, 1945.
After working with Illinois Central Railroad and Milwaukee Railroad for a number of years, he attended Allied Institute of Tech. in Chicago, graduating in 1951 when he joined Illinois Tool Works. He retired from Shakeproof Division of Illinois Tool Works after 33 years.
He had three children: David, who died in June 2002, leaving a wife, two daughters, and four grandsons behind; two daughters, Janis Warren of Rockford and Julie Oller of Bloomington survive. Also surviving are his brother, Bernard and a nephew, Dean, both of Minnesota; a niece, Joyce, of Kansas; two brothers-in-law, Henry Beu of Florida and Nick Krea of California. He has six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who still survive.
Harold was preceded in death by his father; one son; and a niece, Diane Ackerson Ziegler; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Krea Beu, who passed away in May 2001; his mother, Blanche, who also passed away in May of 2001 at the age of 102.
He was active in the Elgin VFW Post 1307 since 1957. He attended First United Methodist Church in Normal. His favorite pasttimes were bowling, roller skating, and camping over the years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Dorothea L. (Last) Miller
Dorothea L. (Last) Miller, 87, of Elgin, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born January 1, 1910 and was the daughter of Walter and Hilda Last.
She is survived by her two daughters; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; three sisters; four brothers; nieces and nephews.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Miller.
She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Elgin.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 14, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. William Morris officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
Amy M. Rayner
Amy M. Rayner, 98, of Elgin, passed away November 7, 2003 in the Friendship Village Health Care Center, Schaumburg, IL. She was born August 8, 1905 in Welcome, MN and was the daughter of Henry and Caroline Kanning Martens. She had been a resident of Elgin for 50 years. Amy had been an Elementary Education Teacher in School District U-46 for over 20 years prior to her retirement in 1961. In 1984, she relocated to New Ulm, MN and lived near her family until her return in 1992.
She was a member of the St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church of Elgin.
Survivors include two sons, James W. (Peg) Rayner and Richard A. (Jeanne) Rayner, both of Elgin, IL; six grandchildren, Michael (Jan) Rayner of Gilberts, Mark (Catherine) Rayner of South Elgin, Jennifer (Mark) Wilnewic of South Elgin, Sara (Dean) Johnson of South Elgin, Jeff (Chris) Rayner of Schaumburg, IL, and Jane (Brett) Thomas of Henderson, NV; fifteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Alice Hartung of Mankato, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Rayner in 1983; five brothers and three sisters.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2003 in the St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church, SE corner of Randall Rd. and Highland Ave., Elgin, at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Tom Atamian officiating. Interment will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services in the church.
