Santos Diaz, age 74, of Carpentersville died November 15.
Survived by sons, David (Teri), John (Sherry), Andrew (Nicole), grandfather of six, brothers, Juan (Ernestina), Jose (Peggy), Enrique (Martha), sisters Delia Valdes and Erma (Leopoldo) Elizundo.
He was preceded in death by his wife Donalda, a son, brother, and grandson.
Veteran of the Korean War. He was a chaplain at Stateville and Joliet Prison.

Shirley J. Switzer
Shirley J. Switzer, 75, of Elgin passed away Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born December 28, 1927 in Kouts, IN. She had been a resident of Elgin for most of her life. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Elgin, the Women of the Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin, had been involved in the Elgin Junior Womens Club, and was active in the PTA when her children were in school.
Surviving are three daughters, Julie Mainard of Apache Junction, AZ, Janice (William) Orkfritz of Mesa, AZ, Joan (Chris) Walschot of Jesup, GA, one son, Samuel (Julia) Switzer of Elgin, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one brother, Richard Lange.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Violet Lange and her husband, Robert H. Switzer on March 1, 2002.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 18, at 10 a.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Olin Sletto officiating. Burial will be in Plato Center cemetery, Plato Center. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire District.

Casimit T. Bera
Casimir T. Bera, age 83, of St. Charles, died Tuesday at his home. He was born February 22, 1921 in Chicago, IL.
He was employed by Lakeview Screw Machine Products in Elgin for 47 years retiring on November 1, 2001, where he made many friends. In his free time, after his retirement, he loved going to the riverboat and visiting with friends. He had a love of all animals and enjoyed his Koi Ponds at home. He loved his family, especially his two grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Penny (Rick) Nichols of South Elgin; one son, Thomas Bera of Norwalk, WI; two grandchildren, Rick Nichols of Lee, IL; and Christopher Nichols of South Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel; his daughter, Patricia Hilgenberg; a son-in-law, Rick Hilgenberg; one sister, Adeline Wrobel; and two brothers, Joseph and Edward Bera.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday at the Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles. Burial will be in River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home. Robert F. "Robby" Boehm
Robert F. "Robby" Boehm, 25, 0f Suprise, Arizona, formerly of Carpentersville died Saturday, November 13, 2004 in Arizona. He was born in Hoffman Estates on September 24, 1979.
Rob was a 1998 graduate of Barrington High School. Rob worked in the construction field.
He is survived by his father, Robert C. Boehm of Carpentersville; his mother, Debra A. Donnelly Price of Crystal Lake; his brother, Rick, of Crystal Lake; his sister, Connie, of Arizona; his paternal grandparents, Frank and Jeanne Boehm of Lake in the Hills; his maternal grandfather, James Donnelly of Woodstock; his great-great-great-grandmother, Violet Parent; many aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Roberta Donnelly.
Funeral services will be on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.

Le Roy A. Fitzpatrick
Le Roy A. Fitzpatrick, age 77, of Hanover Park, formerly of Chicago, died November 16, 2004 in Hoffman Estates. He was born July 14, 1927 in Chicago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He was employed by the Chicago Park District for 51 years.
Survivors include his wife for more than 50 years, Mary Jane (nee Karl); children, Margret Lee Kobylarz (the late Daniel), Marilee Rose, Mary Jane (Mark) Dietze, Lewis (Josephine), and Alexis Fitzpatrick; 11 grandchildren, Amanda and Daniel Kobylarz, Jr., Mary Jo, Sharon, Robert Jr. (Melody) and Joseph Rose, Melissa and Hailee Dietze, Lewis and Angelina Fitzpatrick, and Brianna Roldan; great-grandchildren, Lisa Rose, Jasmine Medina and Jessyka Badillo; abrother, Edward (Dorothy).
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Edward and Emily (nee Gottstein); the late Patricia (Harlan) Moulton.
Visitation will be held from 3-9 PM, Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Countryside Funeral Home, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd. (at Barrington Road), Streamwood/Schaumburg.

Mary A. (Botteron) Martin
Mary passed away peacefully at her home in San Francisco, CA on October 29, 2004, at the age of 54 after a brave three year battle with brain cancer.
Beloved wife of Robert E. Martin; loving step-mother to Angela Triggs, Laura Martin and James Martin; cherished aunt to Norman, Paul, Christopher and Nicholas Botteron; sister-in-law to Patti Botteron and many aunts, uncles and cousins from the Hampshire/Elgin IL area. Steadfast and extraordinary friend to many.
Born August 27, 1950, in Elgin, IL to Norman and Marilyn (Olinger) Botteron. preceded in death by her mother, father and her brother, Norm Botteron.
After the death of her mother in 1962, Mary and her brother Norm were raised in Hampshire, IL by their aunt and uncle, Marge and Bob Proffitt, along with their nine loving cousins. She attended St. Charles Borromeo Grade School and graduated with honors from Hampshire High School in 1968. She attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana where she received a B.S. degree in Psychology, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1972. She earned her M.S.W. in Community Organization and Social Planning at U.C. Berkeley, 1983. Mary was dedicated to helping others through a distinguished career in human services, most recently at Children's Health Council in Palo Alto, CA. She also served the Northern California Council for the Community, The Exploratorium, San Francisco; Mental Health Association, San Francisco; Children's Home Society of California, Oakland, CA; Morrison Center, Youth and Family Services, Portland, OR; United Way of the Bay Area, San Francisco, CA; Garfield County Department of Social Services and the Mountain Valley Developmental Services, Glenwood Springs, CO. She was active in many civic and community organizations. She chaired the Alumni Association School of Social Welfare, U.C. Berkeley; was a member of the Nonprofit Development Center; the National Association of Social Workers; worked for the National Unity Campaign for John Anderson; and volunteered with many human service organizations in California and Oregon. She advocated strongly on behalf of at-risk children and families. A life-long Democrat, Mary was a community activist for social change and human rights who encouraged participation in the political process. She dedicated her life to helping others as a mentor, friend and advisor. All who knew her drew from her strength and sense of humor. She enjoyed politics, reading, long walks and gardening and was the center of many happy celebrations with friends and family. Mary's wit, charm and sense of humor brought joy to all who knew her. Her enthusiasm and laughter lit up every room she entered. Mary's bravery, optimism and love of life never waned during her struggle with cancer, and her spirit was a testament to her love of life. She enriched the lives of everyone with whom she came in contact. She will be missed. May her memory be a blessing.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on November 20, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, E. Jefferson Ave., Hampshire, IL. A memorial Mass was held on November 13, 2004, in San Francisco, CA. Burial will be on December 6, 2004, in San Francisco, CA.

Martin F. "Marty" Schumacher
Martin F. "Marty" Schumacher, 52, of East Dundee died Sunday, November 14, 2004 at the Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born in Elgin on January 29, 1952. He was the son of Richard L. and Rosemary C. (nee Warner) Schumacher.
Marty was a life long resident of the Dundee area and a 1970 graduate of Dundee Community High School. He was employed by Fox River Graphics of Carpentersville.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Tani K. (nee Busleta) Schumacher, whom he married on August 31, 1978; their son, Martin F. "Marty" Schumacher II of East Dundee; six brothers, Richard II (Kate) Schumacher of West Dundee, Kurt (Janet) Schumacher of Elgin, Karl (Sue) Schumacher of Hampshire, Roy (Jenny) Schumacher of West Dundee, Matthew (Annette) Schumacher of Poplar Grove, Franz (Laura) Schumacher of Carpentersville; five sisters, Ruth Ann Schumacher of Marengo, Margaret (Rick) Love of East Dundee, Mary Ann Schumacher of Elgin, Marilyn (Darrell) Zickur of Rochelle and Janet (Ray) Bailey of Gilberts; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph; and a nephew, Jason.
Funeral services will be on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Please omit flowers; memorials may be made to the East Dundee Paramedics.

Linda K. Smock
Linda K. Smock, 55, of Hampshire, formerly of Old Carpentersville, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. She was born in Elgin on November 5, 1949, the daughter of Harold and Marion Szoke. Linda was a life long resident of the area and a member of First United Methodist Church of West Dundee. She was a loving wife, mother and nana who was devoted to her family.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Bob. They married on November 18, 1967; two daughters, Terri (Michael) McGavock of Lake in the Hills and Christine (Darrell) Peters of Huntley; a son, Benjamin Smock stationed with the United States Navy in Brunswick, Maine; her grandsons, Joshua Gettig and Jason Peters; her sister, Carol (John) Sweet of South Elgin; and her brother, David Szoke of Maple Park, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Linda's family will be receiving family and friends at the First United Methodist Church, 318 W. Main St. in West Dundee on Thursday, November 18, 2004 from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral Services and interment will be private. Please omit flowers, memorials may be made either to the Sherman Hospital Oncology Department or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald R. Eglinton, Jr.
Ronald R. Eglinton, Jr., 23, of Carpentersville died Saturday, November 16, 2002 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
He was born in Rockford on December 2, 1978.
Ron was a life long resident of Carpentersville and a 1997 graduate of Barrington High School. He was a five year employee of Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva. Ron was a Semi-Pro Football player and a member of the Cook County Jaguars. He loved sports and was an avid softball player and for many years was a player in the Dundee Township Park District softball program.
He is survived by his parents, Ronald R. and Virginia (nee Blakney) Eglinton, Sr. of Carpentersville; six brothers and sisters, Donald (Carol) Dozier of Rock Island, Ronald Dozier of Carpentersville, Renee Hickmon of Colorado, Sherrie (Chris) Thorson of Elgin, his twin brother, James Eglinton of Carpentersville and Kelly Eglinton of Carpentersville; many nieces, nephews and a great nephew. In addition to aunts, uncles cousins and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee with the Rev. Todd Burnett, Chaplain of Delnor Community Hospital officiating. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 to 9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee.

John William Bero
John William Bero, 86, of Fort Myers, Florida died Tuesday, November 4, 2003. He was born June 13, 1917, in Chicago, IL, and moved to Ft. Myers in 1981 from Elgin, IL.
He was a second-generation owner of the F.J. Bero and Co. plumbing contracting firm of Elgin until his retirement in 1980, and a past president and member of the Elgin area Plumbing Contractors Association. Mr. Bero was a member of the Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church in Ft. Myers. He was a past commander of VFW Post #1307 in Elgin, and the VFW locally. Mr. Bero served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during W.W.II as a Chief Petty Officer, and was in the battles of Iwo Jima and Pelalu in the South Pacific. He also assisted in the cleanup of Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the Elks, and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his very loving wife of eight years, Jane Pirko Bero of Ft. Myers; his sons, John F. (Sharon) Bero, Robert (Kathy) Bero, Dan (Meg) Bero, Charles (Lynn) Bero; a stepson, David (Lizabeth) Pirko; a stepdaughter, Millie Triff; fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Bero; a brother, George; two sisters, Francis Lockman and Anita Larson; his first wife of 50 years, Dorothy (Blondie) Bero; a great-granddaughter, Peyton Jane Bero.
Funeral services with military honors were held Friday, November 7 in the chapel of Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, with the Reverend Charles K. Sullivan, pastor of Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church officiating. A special Veterans Day ceremony held in Ft. Myers this November 11 honored Mr. Bero, as the American Flag from his funeral was carried by Special Forces paratroopers in an airborne drop, and presented at the ceremony in his name.

W. Dion Hundley
W. Dion "Deac" Hundley of Kissimmee, Florida, passed away November 8, 2003. He was born on September 3, 1939 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After moving to Illinois, he was educated in the Vienna and Elgin, Illinois public school systems, graduating from Elgin High School in 1959.
An avid car racing fan and driver, Deac won the World Series of Drag Racing and finished second in the National Championships in his classification. In 1961, he was selected by a representative of General Motors to drive one of the new rear engine Corvairs through the Darien jungle of Panama as a prelude to the completion of the Pan American Highway. This adventure became the subject of a Chicago Tribune Magazine article in September of 1961 and was made into a movie "short" and shown in theaters throughout the United States. During this expedition, Deac contracted malaria. Near death, he was helicoptered out of the jungle but returned later to the expedition. Subsequently, after serving in the United States Army, Deac was hired by Besinger Corporation of Carpentersville, Illinois to manage a group of apartment complexes including a HUD project that became a model for low income housing. In 1984, Deac was employed by THI Development to plan and construct an attraction on Highway 192 in Kissimmee. His vision was based on a turn of the century old Florida town which became a reality through the creation of the Old Town Shopping Attraction in Kissimmee. Remembering his days as a youngster and his own "hot rods", he created the weekly "Saturday Nite Cruise" at Old Town for vintage cars up to and including the year 1972. This Cruise is now internationally famous.
Deac was preceded in death by his father, Winfield Hundley and his mother, Wanda Hundley.
He is survived by his wife, Denise; a daughter, Dustin (Brian) James of Tampa; a son, Deke Hundley of St. Cloud; a step-daughter, Kristin Gregoire; two step-sons, Kevin Gregoire of Orlando and Kasey Cooper of Kissimmee; four grandsons, Kelsey Isaiah James, Elijah Hundley James of Tampa and Isaiah Rivas of Kissimmee; two granddaughters, Hannah Lee James and Lanie Elizabeth James of Tampa; two sisters, Surilda Hanks of St. Cloud and Shirley Hundley of Richmond, Kentucky; two brothers, Monty Hundley of Windermere and Charles Hundley of Kissimmee.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, 2003 in the area of the Old Town main stage at 5770 West Irlo Bronson Highway in Kissimmee, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Comforter, 595 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Florida 32714.

Albert E. Jensen
Albert E. Jensen, 86, of Rochelle passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2003 at St. Anne Center in Rockford, IL.
He was born on October 25, 1917 in Arlington Heights, IL, the son of Theodore and Emma (Gaeda) Jensen. He married Pearl M. Kenneke on May 3, 1941 in Bartlett, IL. He was a lifelong farmer, farming in Bartlett, Huntley and the past 35 years in Rochelle. He was a member of the Creston United Methodist Church and the Ogle County Farm Bureau.
He preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gustov; and sisters, Selma Glade, Malinda Jensen and Elsie Muhr.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl of Rochelle, IL; three daughters, Marjorie (Dean) Marlowe of Hampshire, IL, Nancy Jensen of Flemington, NJ and Kathy (Dennis) Fane of Cherry Valley, IL; four grandchildren, Bonnie Marlowe of DeKalb, Carol (Scott) Fiandalo of Huntley, IL, Brian Marlowe of Hampshire and Kristi Fane of Cherry Valley; a great grandson, Jacob Fiandalo of Huntley, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at 11 AM with Rev. Judith Sherk and Chaplain Carol Harrington officiating.
Visitation will be held at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. sixth St., Rochelle, IL on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 from 4 to 7 PM and on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM prior to the funeral service. Burial at Woodlawn cemetery in Creston, IL.
