PFC Scott Matthew Tyrrell, US Army 299th Charlie Co., serving in Iraq, died Thursday, November 20, 2003 in Brooke Army Medical Center, Ft. Sam Houston, TX. He was born June 20, 1982 in Aurora, IL, the son of Arnold Tyrrell and Susan Alcorn Tyrrell.
Scott attended Oregon schools and started at Oregon High School, then finishing and graduating from Sterling High School, Class of 2000. He served with the Army during the Afghanistan conflict as a member of Special Forces.
He is survived by his mother, Susan Tyrrell of Forreston; father and step mother, Arnold (Kathleen) Tyrrell of Polo; maternal grandmother, Ida Mae Alcorn of Aurora; paternal grandmother, Mary Tyrrell of Sandwich; a sister, Kelly (Mike) Zitelman of Dixon; a brother, Joseph Tyrrell of Forreston; a niece, two nephews; aunts and uncles, Peg Rhodes, Pat Johnson, Greg (Cynthia) Alcorn, Ann (Jim) Savage, Roger Alcorn, Nancy (Robert) Kell, Jane (Jim) Pauly, and Mary Beth (Chris) Mitchell; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Eldred Alcorn; paternal grandfather, Ivan Tyrrell; and uncles, Robert Alcorn and Jim Rhodes.
Christian Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 10 AM in St. Mary Catholic Church, 301 N. 4th Street, Oregon with Rev. Paul White celebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, November 28th from 2 to 8 PM in the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th St., Oregon.
Odessa Ferguson
Odessa Ferguson, 69, of Elgin, passed away Friday, November 19, 2004 in Asta Care Center in Elgin. She was born September 5, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, AL and was the daughter of Joush and Clodell Scott. She had been a resident of Elgin for many years and was a Nurses Aide, before retiring. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Elgin.
Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Ferguson of Hanover Park, IL and Sherry (Perry) Carter of Elgin; three sons, Terry (Charlene) Ferguson of Skokie, IL, Princeton (Antionitte) Ferguson of Aurora, IL, and Kevin Ferguson of Elgin; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a brother, James (Brenda) Barnes of South Elgin, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carmen; and two sons, Patrick and Carl.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12:00 Noon in the Laird Funeral Chapel, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday in the funeral home from 11:00 AM, until time of services.
William Huebner
William Huebner, age 77, of Hampshire, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at Kindred Hospital Sycamore.
William was born January 15, 1927 in Chicago, IL, the son of Emil and Christine Schmitz Huebner.
Survived by one daughter Carole (Scott) Jensen of Hampshire; two sons Dr. Robert (Lisa) Huebner of KS and John Huebner of Hampshire; eight grandchildren; and two sisters.

Donato P. Vitiello, Jr., 78, of South Elgin, IL formerly Streamwood passed away Sunday, November 21, 2004. Born July 14, 1926 in Chicago, IL. A World War II Army Veteran. Served on the Chicago Police Force 1957-1967.

Harry Swendsen
Harry Swendsen, 95, of Elgin, former many year resident of East Dundee, died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the Rosewood Healthcare Center in Elgin.
He was born on May 2, 1907 in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of Oluf and Anna (nee Rubeck) Swendsen.
He was a 54 year resident of the Dundee Area. He was former Comptroller and Vice President of Illinois Iron and Bolt Co. until his retirement in 1964. Following retirement, he operated Harry Swendsen Accounting and Tax Service. Harry was very active in the Dundee community and served as former District commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America in Dundee Township. He was a long time member and Past President of the Dundee Township Lions Club. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of West Dundee and a former member of the First United Methodist Church of West Dundee.
He is survived by two sons, Robert (Rhona Jean) of East Dundee and Gerald (Nancy) of Hanover Park; a granddaughter, Julie Swendsen; four grandsons, Richard (Belinda), Daniel (Kimberly), Scott and Erik (Fiancee`, Alicia); great grandfather of Ashlee and Taylor; a sister, Ella Jacobsen of Milwaukee, Wisc. Several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith Monefeldt Swendsen on September 22, 1993. They married
on August 6, 1932; and a brother, Adolph "Otto" Swendsen.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.

George T. Zabilka, Jr.
George T. Zabilka, Jr., 54, of Woodstock, formerly of Elgin, passed away Friday after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born May 13, 1948 in Chicago, IL and was the son of George T. and Mildred (Bouma) Zabilka Sr. George was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1966-70 on the U.S.S. Enterprise and U.S.S. America in Vietnam. He had worked for Northwest Airlines for 30 years at both O'Hare and Midway Airports. George was a loving husband and father, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church of Elgin and a member of IAM Local 1487.
Survivors include his wife, Linda, of Woodstock, five children - Peter Zabilka of Elgin, Philip (Jennifer) Zabilka of Carol Stream, IL., Paul Zabilka of Geneva, IL., Ryan and David Zabilka, both at home, his brother, Francis (Lyn) Zabilka of Orland Hills, IL., his sister, Katherine Zabilka of CA., and his two faithful companions - Dusty & Emily.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, two brothers - William F. Munro and Albert Zabilka, and his sister, Georgette Hila.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Epworth United Methodist (Northwest corner of Highland Ave. and Randall Rd.), Elgin, with Rev. Dr. Thomas Potenza officiating. Burial will be private in Oakland cemetery, Woodstock, IL. Visitation will be on Monday from 3-8:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be made to the Children's Education Fund or the family to be used for lung cancer research.
Mary Ann Mueller
Mary Ann Mueller, 70, of Elgin passed away Saturday, November 22, 2003 in her home.
She was born January 27, 1933 in Jackson, County, Alabama, the daughter of Hampton and Louise Webb.
She had been a resident of Elgin since 1980 and a member of the First Baptist Church of Elgin.
Surviving are her husband, Roger L. Mueller; a son, Steven C. Nottingham of Elgin; brother-in-law, Richard Wicknick of Elgin; three nephews; a niece; various cousins; and three aunts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Hampton F. and William B. Webb.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Michael Frantz officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM.
Frances "Mardell" Dillon Seaman
Frances "Mardell" Dillon Seaman, age 97, of South Elgin, IL, passed away peacefully at her home, Saturday morning, November 22, 2003. She was born on the family farm, January 14, 1906 in rural Pearl, IL, the daughter of William Brian and Verda June (Hess) Dillon.
Following graduation from Milton High School in 1924, Mardell went on to earn her teaching certificate from Illinois State Teacher's College at Normal, IL in 1926. She began teaching at Nokomis, IL and soon afterward, was married
to Frederick Lee Tompkins on September 11, 1926. In 1938, she went on to graduate from the University of Illinois, Champaign with a bachelor's degree in food and nutrition. Focusing her interests further, Mardell earned a Masters degree in chemistry and nutrition from Iowa State University in 1939. For a time she put her education to work as an instructor in home economics at Michigan State University and later taught briefly at Purdue University.
Mardell accepted a position as nutritionist with Quaker Oats for a time but two years later began a career as a research biochemist at the American Can Co. in Maywood, IL. During her work there she helped develop dietary programs in 1944 for the POW German camps; helped develop astronaut diets in the 1960's and lead pioneering work with the sensory evaluations of foods.
Throughout her busy and demanding career, Mardell loved her life as a wife, homemaker and mother. Her one daughter, Sally, shared her life long love of horses. She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed embroidery and knitting as well as handcrafts and ceramics. She was also an excellent cook and well known for keeping her own secret recipes.
Following Frederick's death in 1962, Mardell was later married
to Milton L. Seaman, on May 29, 1965 at the United Methodist Church, South Elgin. Through their retirement years, Mardell and Milton traveled around the world several times. Most of all, however, Mardell loved sharing the lives of her grandchildren.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Milton, the Kane County Farm Bureau as well as Iota Sigma PI, and Phi Kappa Phi, and several alumni associations including ACES (the College of Agricultural and Environmental Science), Iowa State and University of Illinois Alumni Association.
She leaves her daughter, Sally King of South Elgin, IL; three grandchildren: Patrick King of McGuire Air Force Base, NJ, Daniel (Lesley) King of Fort Bragg, NC; Kelly (Stephen) King and their son Zachary of South Elgin, IL; one step-daughter, Katherine Twain of Sonoma, CA, two step-grandchildren: Morgan Peterson of Sonoma, CA and Caitlyn (Adrian) Chalk and their children, Alexander and Sarah of Straatsburg, NY as well as several beloved nieces and her special caregiver, Richard Morgan. Although Mardell outlived most of her generation, her love continues in the lives of loved ones and friends who will never forget the inimitable "Mardell".
She joins now her parents, her two husbands, Frederick Tompkins and Milton Seaman; one son Tory William, in infancy, and six siblings: Cleona Madelyn, Eula Grace, Gladys Minerva, one step sister Nettie Marie, as well as one brother Neely William Dillon, and a step brother, Lyndle William.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held December 7, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St., Elburn, IL with an hour of visitation preceding from 1 p.m. until time of service. The Rev. Katherine Lawes, pastor of the Community Congregational Church, Elburn will officiate. Following cremation, Mardell will be laid to rest at South Elgin cemetery.
Mildred "Millie" Sieber Allart
Mildred "Millie" Sieber Allart, of Elgin passed away Saturday, November 23, 2002 in her home.
She was born in the South Shore area of Chicago, IL, the daughter of John and Wilhelmina (Casper) Jordan.
Millie will be remembered for her loving devotion to her family and friends, her fine intelligence and her warm friendly spirit. She was deeply interested in her community and served on numerous boards, most recently, the Hemmens Cultural Center. Member of the First Congregational Church of Elgin.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet (Joe) Sieber Hammock; four grandchildren, Julie and Lisa Sobinsky, and Robert and Richard Johnson Jr; three great grandchildren, Sarah and Hannah Johnson and Maxwell Sobinsky; and many wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Robert J. Sieber and Douglas W. Allart.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 2 PM in the First Congregational Church, Elgin. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee, IL.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Wednesday from 1:30 until time of Services at the church.
