Rudolph T. Berg Jr. "Rudy"
Rudolph "Rudy" T. Berg Jr., 81, of Lake In The Hills, formerly Algonquin, passed away November 15, 2002 in Lake In The Hills. He was born February 9, 1921 in Chicago, the son of Rudolph T. and Marcella Berg.
Mr. Berg served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. On November 11, 1944 he was married
in Northumberland, England. He worked at Henry Neilsen Construction Co. in Algonquin until 1995. From 1951 until 1976 he served as a volunteer fireman for the Algonquin Fire Protection District. He was also a lifetime member of American Legion Post #670 in Algonquin.
Mr. Berg is survived by his daughters, Marcy (Don) Wright of Lake In The Hills, Marjie (Al) Heinke of Algonquin, his son, John (Lois) Berg of Algonquin, his grandchildren, John Wright of Atlanta, Ga., Dawn Wright of Atlanta, Ga., Tracy (Brian) Spitzer of Knoxville, Tn., David (Krista) Heinke of Batavia, Il., Matt Berg of Algonquin, and great granddaughters Kayla and Kaeli.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy Berg, his brother, Warren Berg of McHenry, and a grandson, Mark Wright.
Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Willow Funeral Home, 1415 W. Algonquin Rd. in Algonquin. Memorial visitation will be Saturday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Memorials for the deceased can be made to Senior Services of McHenry County, 3519 N. Bonnie C. Beu
Bonnie C. Beu, 60, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2002 in her home.
She was born June 9, 1942 in Elgin and was the daughter of Clarence and Sylvia Boundy.
A resident of Elgin all her life and graduated from the Great Elgin High School, Class of 1960. She was instrumental in developing the library at Washington Elementary School and worked there for over 20 years. She was the coach for the Battle of the Books for many years and taught many children the joy of reading. She also organized the library at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, of the Sherman Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed going to the Elgin Moose Lodge with her husband and mother.
Surviving are her husband, Dick; two sons, Joshua (Amber) Beu and Jason and his friend Joan who took very good care of her; two grandchildren, Dakota and Dalton Beu; and a brother, Jerry Boundy of Scottsdale, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Boundy; and her mother, Sylvia Wesemann, who prepared a way for her at the end of August.
Funeral Services will be held Monday at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 8 PM.
Memorials may be given to the VITAS Hospice or to St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Lois Glowacki-Kanabay
Lois Glowacki-Kanabay, 73, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. She was born November 1, 1929 in Chicago and was the daughter of Bernard and Theresa Paetsch. She had been a resident of Elgin for the past 32 years.
Member of St. Laurence Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband, John Kanabay; a son, Laurence (Barbara) Glowacki of Crystal Lake, IL; two daughters, Judith (Richard) Warner of Elgin and Jan (Philip) Young of Sugar Grove; grandchildren, David, Matthew, Blair, Philip, Theresa and Tim, Annette, Brian; a great grandson, Ethan; a stepson, Alan (Wendy) Kanabay of Crystal Lake; a stepdaughter, Jackie (Larry) Stromm of Harvard; step grandchildren, Amanda and John, Krista and Michael, and John.
preceded in death by her parents; and first husband, Anthony.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin, on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and then on Saturday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Mary Jordan
Mary Jordan, 82, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, November 20, in Heritage Manor. She was born June 11, 1920 in Eldorado, IL. and was the daughter of Ed and Madeline Anderson. Resident of Elgin since 1958 and had been employed as a nurse at the Elgin Mental Health Center before retiring.
Survived by one daughter-in-law, Lois Jordan of South Elgin; one sister, Ethel Bourland of Godfrey, IL.; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded by her parents; husband, Ed Jordan; one son, Ted Jordan; and one brother, Carl.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30 at 4 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 30 from 2 to 4 PM in the funeral home.
Helen Suitts
A celebration of the life of Helen Grace Suitts of Sandwich, Illinois, formerly of Genoa, will be held on Saturday, November 30 at 11 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Genoa, Illinois.
Born September 12, 1925 to Harley and Jennie (Fowler) McCartney in Randolph County, Indiana, she died in the loving arms of her family on November 26, 2002 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Suitts was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Genoa Unit 337, having served as Unit, County, and Division President. She was a member of the VFW Unit 5768 in Sycamore. She was a Charter Member of the DeKalb County 8/40. She was the first female President of the DeKalb County Industrial Management Club. She was a member of the Kingston Methodist Church. She retired after 28 years with GTE.
She is survived by her husband, Robert N. Suitts, whom she married
on her 19th birthday in 1944. She was the beloved mother of four children, Elton (Brenda) of DeKalb, Sandra (Michael) Mettler of Elgin, Ronald (Elaine) of Elgin, and Nancy Barbour of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was a wonderful grandmother to Caroline, Allison, Erin, Hayley, and Evan, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a nephew, David McCartney, and a niece, Karen Evans of Yorktown, Indiana.
Mrs. Suitts was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Basil and Richard of Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary of Post #337, c/o the Genoa VFW, 311 S. Washington St., Genoa, Il. 60135.

Florence Anna Hanson
Florence Anna Hanson, 90, of Elgin, IL passed away Thursday in the Rosewood Care Center, Inverness, IL.
She was born March 25, 1913 in Sac City, Iowa and was the daughter of Rose and John Lane.
Florence graduated from Elgin High School, and had worked at the Elgin National Watch Factory for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Elgin Bible Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Muriel (Horton) Pfingsten of Elgin, Evelyn (Howard) Ewing of Campbell, CA and Helen (Emory) Thurnau of Seattle, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip H. Hanson in 1985; and two sisters, Ruby Donald and Esther (Norman) Peaslee.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Phil Congdon officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home.
Benjamin Harris Kelly Jr.
Benjamin Harris Kelly Jr., born October 1, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois made his transition on NOvember 21, 2003.
He served his country in both Korea and Vietnam and retired from the Army with full honors. Following his military career, he worked as property manager for Draper and Kramer and Wolin-Levin.
Benjamin is survived by his devoted wife, Janice Small Kelly; a sister, Tina of Chicago; a niece, Diane Williams also of Chicago; beloved mother and father-in-law, Vera and William Small of Elgin, IL; three sisters-in-law, Billie (Paul) Barnett of Elgin; LaVeta Small of Fayetteville, GA and Renee Small of San Diego, CA; several cousins, Patrick, David, Lucille and Katherine "Starr" Johnson and Jackie Armstrong of Chicago; a host of great nieces and nephews; and a wealth of friends.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 11 AM at Leak & Sons, 79th and Cottage Grove in Chicago. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 AM with internment immediately following the services at Holy Sepulcher cemetery in Alsip, IL.
Paul J. Pearson
Paul J. Pearson, 69, of Lake Marion died Wednesday, November 26 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born in Carpentersville on May 10, 1934 to Arnold and Ethel Pearson. He worked for Elgin Steel Kitchens for years.
He is survived by three brothers, Adrian "Addie" (Ellen) Pearson of Lake in the Hills, Leth (Joan) Pearson of East Dundee, Lester Pearson of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Lewie, Jerry, Arnie, and David; one sister, Betty.
Private funeral services will be held at the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Elsie M. Shearer
Elsie was born in South Elgin, Illinois on November 10, 1909, the daughter of Jens and Mattie Fredericksen.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elgin, where in earlier years, was active in church and Sunday School activities. She also had been a member of The Living Lord Lutheran Church while living in Streamwood.
Elsie is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Jack) Kennedy of Columbus, Ohio and Susan (John) Hilliard of South Elgin; one sister, Marie Adam of Barrington; grandchildren, Craig (Anneliese) Kennedy, LeAnn (Thomas) DiPasquale, Brad (Kimberly) Kennedy, Dana Kennedy, Scott (Melody) Kennedy, Traci (William) White, Lisa (David) Galvin, Eric Hiiliard, Heidi Hilliard adn Rachael (Michael) Huggett; nineteen great-grandchildren.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Melvin; her parents; two sisters, twin Alice Fredericksen and Lara Dunning; six brothers, Fred, Albert, Carl, Ralph, Elmer, Arthur; a grandson, John Hilliard III.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 330 Griswold St., Elgin, IL. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-7:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. in the church until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made ot Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, or the Hospice of Northeastern IL.
Phyllis N. Sorensen
Phyllis N. Sorensen, 81, of Prosperity, GA, formerly of Elgin, IL entered into rest November 11, 2003. Her beloved husband, Clifford H. Sorensen, preceded her in death. Mrs. Sorensen was a chaplain's assistant in the Coast Guard during World War II. Her strong faith in God was her anchor throughout her life here on earth. She was a beloved mother, homemaker and writer.
Survivors include her children: Suzanne Harrow of Augusta, GA; Stephen (Alice) Sorensen of Toronto, Canada; Christine (Stephen) Stewart of South Elgin, IL; Donald (Linda) Sorensen of St. Charles, IL; Claudia (John) Peters of Golden, MO. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
An Open House to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2003 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. in The South Elgin Lion's Club, 500 Fulton St., South Elgin. Please come and join the family as they remember this wonderful woman. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association, 6 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL. Helen W. Steier
Helen W. Steier, 90, of Elgin passed away November 27, 2003 at Apostolic Christian Resthaven. She was born July 3, 1913 in Oak Park, IL.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park.
Mrs. Steier is survived by her son, Albert of Elgin; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; one sister, Betty (Max) Stein.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert in 1999; her daughter, Susan in 2003; one brother; two sisters.

Donald B. "Swede" Swanson
Donald B. "Swede" Swanson, 81, of West Dundee died Thursday, November 27, 2003 at the Rosewood Care Center in Elgin. He was born in West Dundee on March 23, 1922, the son of George Victor and Edith (nee Farenholtz) Swanson.
Swede was a lifelong resident of West Dundee. He had worked for Plinkey's Furniture Store in West Dundee, the Evergreens Restaurant in West Dundee and finally M & S Engineering in East Dundee. He was a W.W.II Army Veteran and a proud member and supporter of the American Legion, especially American Legion Post #0679 where he was a member for 61 years. He also was a member of the Eagles Club and was a founding member of the Dundee Crown Athletic Hall of Fame.
He is survived in love by his two nieces, Cheryl Swanson Horvath of Pace, Florida and Billy Pate of Hesperia, CA; his nephew, Ralph A. Pate, III of Hesperia, CA; a great-niece, Sinae Van Haastert of Hesperia, CA. Swede is also survived by his loving extended family, Ken, Joan, Elizabeth, Sean, Sue, Dick, Cathy, and Kelly.
He was preceded in death by is parents; his brother, George Victor Swanson, Jr.; his sisters, Elaine Swanson Pate and Eileen Swanson.
At Swede's request, there will be no visitations or services. Interment will be private in the Dundee Twp. Eas cemetery. Memorials may be made in his memory to the American Legion Post #0679 or the Dundee Crown High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Viola Barckley
Viola Barckley, 96, of Elgin passed away Thursday, November 25, 2004 in the Tower Hill Health Care Center, South Elgin, IL. She was born on November 3, 1908 in Lima Center, WI and was the daughter of William and Mabel Dixon. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Elgin.
She is survived by three children, Arden Barckley of Elgin, Mari-El Falkenberg of Elgin and Bonita (Mark) Perkiser of Genoa, IL; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Mary Dixon of Janesville, WI; and her daughter-in-law, Ann Barckley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin Barckley in 1974; a sister, Eva Higgins; a brother, Harold Dixon; and her great grandson, Nathan McIlvaine.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 2 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1 PM until the time of services in the funeral home.
James D. Fillmore
James D. Fillmore, 77, of Elgin passed away Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Rosewood Care Center in Elgin. He was born in Rockford on October 8, 1927, the son of Charles and Virginia Fillmore.
Surviving are his wife, June Fillmore whom he married
on April 30, 1966; a daughter, Dawn (Jeffery) Baron of Elgin; and three grandchildren, Alyssa, Philip and Nathan Baron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Joseph Fillmore.
The family would like to thank all care givers from Rosewood Care Center, Sherman and Provena St. Joseph Hospitals and Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago that provided help to Jim when he needed it most over this past year and all doctors and nurses were much appreciated during this time. A special thank you to the people from hospice for helping me to "let go" and the compassion they show when people are in need.
