Laura V. Miller
Laura V. Miller, 76, of Carpentersville passed away November 29, 2004 at Sherman Hospital. She was born March 31, 1928, the daughter of Adolph and Serena Leetzov Petersdorf.
Survivors include her sons, Gordon (Bonnie) of Florida and John (Donna) of South Elgin; grandchildren, Will, J.C., Madison, and Peyton; sisters, Marie (James) Millmakee of Elgin, Lois Selpien of Bensenville, Ruth Weed of Florida, Barbara (Billy) Hayes of Elgin, Carol (Ed) Bryant of South Elgin; her brother, Robert (Alice) Petersdorf of Elgin; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur Miller in 1981; sisters, Serena Peteresdorf and Irene Selpien; a brother, Marvin Petersdorf and two brothers in infancy, Billy and Harold.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements by Madison Funeral Home.

Ann Onorato
Visitation for Ann Onorato (nee Prendergast), formerly of Maywood and Glen Ellyn, will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Salerno's Rosedale Chapels, 450 W. Lake St. (3/4 mile west of Bloomingdale/Roselle Roads), Roselle, IL 60172. Cremation is private.
Ann was widowed for over 55 years and raised five children on her own.
She was beloved wife of the late Thomas F.; devoted mother of Frank (Diane), Thomas, Marilyn Neidig, Judy and Nancy (Robert) Pudelwitts; dear sister of Francis Prendergast; dear grandmother of 12; great-grandmother of seven and great-great grandmother of one.
Please omit flowers.

Enedina Portales
Enedina Portales, 68 of Elgin died Monday, November 29, 2004 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
She was born October 2, 1936 in Muzquis, Mexico the daughter of Isaac and Celia Garcia Portales. She lived her married life in Pierdas Negras, Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 41 years, Tomas; one brother, German Portales; and one son, Jose Luis Portales.
Enedina is survived by seven children, Maria of Elgin, Noemi (Juan) Martinez of Rochelle, Tomas (Elva) Portales of Streamwood, Irma (Roberto) Moreno of San Antonio, TX, Juana (Lazaro) Estrada of Elgin, Beatriz (Jesus) Contreras of Aurora, Enedina (Jorge) Aguilar of Aurora; 22 grandchildren; two sisters, Juan Portales of Elgin and Rosa Elena Portales of Eagle Pass, TX; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 2, from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the O'Connor-Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin with the funeral Friday also at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Leo Maldonado of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Memorials may be made in Enedina's memory to the family. Burial will be private.

Ellen M. Welch
Ellen M. Welch, 64, of South Elgin, passed away Monday, December 1, 2003 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born on November 29, 1939 in Canton, IL and was the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth Rowley.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Elgin.
She is survived by her loving husband, David Welch; four sons, Brad (Sandy), Jeff (Denise), Mark (Michele), and Scott (Karrie) Welch; nine grandchildren, Dominic, Courtney, Brianna, Thomas, Dean, Phillip, Jeffrey, Jr., Logan, and Samuel; two brothers, Michael (Phyllis) and Patrick (Mora) Rowley; two sisters, Peggy (Stan) Nawrocki and Colleen (Jim) Fidler.
She was preceded in death her parents and a granddaughter, Ashley.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 12:00 Noon in the St. Mary's Catholic Church, 390 Fulton St., Elgin, with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-9:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Thursday in the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.

John E. Wiff
John E. Wiff, 73, of Sterling, Illinois, formerly of Elgin, died unexpectedly November 18, 2003 in Fort Myers, Florida.
Born to Guy and Alice (Klein) Wiff on September 28, 1930, John was raised on the family farm near Martell, Wisconsin. After graduating with a double degree in chemistry and mathematics from University of Wisconsin- River Falls, John married Lavona Klecker in 1951. They built their first home in Champlin, Minnesota, where they raised five children.
John taught math at Anoka (Minnesota) Junior High School for two years before starting his thirty year career in the Chemical Products Division of Cargill, Incorporated. At the research lab in Wayzata, Minnesota, John was instrumental in the development of applications for polyurethane resins, winning several awards. He was active in national paint and chemical industry associations.
Concurrent with working at Cargill, John served two terms as the mayor of the Village of Champlin. He was also active in local and Minnesota state politics.
In 1969, John and his family moved to Elgin, Illinois where John became assistant manager of Cargill's Carpentersville chemical plant. He later went into sales, then managed another plant for Cargill in Chicago Heights, Illinois. After retiring from Cargill in 1988, he sold resin for the Neville Chemical Company across a multi-state region.
In Elgin, John served on the PTA at Ellis Junior High School, was a member of the Kiwanis and of the First United Methodist Church.
John was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and an active member of each community where he lived. He had a beautiful baritone voice, sang in several choirs, and enjoyed music in its many forms. He had a zest ofr life, a great sense of humor, a probing curiosity, and abundant energy.
In 1990, the Wiffs moved to Sterling, Illinois. For the past eight years they have been snowbirds, spending their winter months in North Fort Myers, Florida. In his retirement, John pursued the perfect game of golf.
John is survived by his wife; his children, Dr. Margaret (Hugh Whipple) Wiff of St. Charles, Illinois, Robert Wiff of Seattle, Washington, Joan Wiff of Highland Park, John (Tina) Wiff of South Elgin, Illinois, and Suzanne Wiff of Chicago; many grandchildren; his sister, Pat Wiff of Angora, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sterling, Illinois.
One of his favorite charities was the Society of St. Andrews, 3383 Sweet Adlow Road, Big Island, VA 24526.

Betty Elaine Wilson
Betty Elaine Wilson, 67, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004 in Sherman Hospital. She was born August 19, 1937 in Spencerville, OH and was the daughter of LeLand and Mae Ross. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1969.
She is survived by her husband, James Wilson; three daughters, Mickie Mae (David) Johnson of Palatine, IL, Betsy (Jim) Stemple of Marengo, IL, and Shirldine Kay Wilson of Elgin; three sons, William (Maggie) Wolfe of Hampshire, IL, Phillip Wilson, of Portland, OR, and James Wilson of Elgin; twenty grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley (Richard) Antony of CA, Veona, and Rita; and one brother, Donald.
She was preceded in death by two sons, John Lee Wolfe and Don Cochese Wolfe; one sister, Claudine Maxwell; and three brothers, Phillip Ross, Doran Ross, and Eddie Ross.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00pm in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Dennis Ammons officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.

Thomas W. Hall
Thomas W. Hall, 62, of Lake in the Hills, formerly Carpentersville, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
He was born on May 4, 1940 in Chicago, the son of George and Minnie (nee Scalzetti) Hall.
Mr. Hall was a resident of the area for 33 years. He was a 36 year employee of United Airlines. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church of Algonquin.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen A. (nee Senne) Hall. They married on July 29, 1961; five children, Gary (Katherine) Hall and John Hall both of Lake in the Hills, Kelli (John) Svymbersky of Elgin, Christopher Hall of Lake in the Hills and Thomas (Emily) Hall of Sleepy Hollow; four grandchildren, Christopher, Emily, Natalie and Timothy; and a sister, Carolyn Kloss of LaMesa, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Timothy in 1966.
Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday at 10 AM in the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Algonquin. Private burial sill follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Wednesday in the church from 9 AM until time of Mass.

Mildred Maresh
Mildred Maresh, 79, of Carpentersville died Monday, December 2, 2002 at the Rosewood Care Center in Elgin.
She was born in Oak Park on October 20, 1923, the daughter of John and Elsie (nee Volgtmann) Zuchowski.
Mrs. Maresh was a 47 year resident of Carpentersville and a former many year employee of Lee Wards in Elgin.
She is survived by two daughters, Mildred A. Maresh and Susan (William) Beissert both of Carpentersville; and a sister, Merle (Albert) Wagner of Marathon, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Maresh in 1977; a sister, Bertha Kogut; and by three brothers, John, George and Edward Zuchowski.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Services and interment will be private.

Frank Marvin
Frank Marvin, 74 of Elgin passed away Saturday, November 30, 2002 in Sherman Hospital. He was born January 14, 1928 in Troy New York and was the son of Francis H. and Kathryn Marvin.
He had been a resident of Elgin for the last 20 years. He was an electrician with Local 134 in Chicago before retiring. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy and then with the 82nd Air Born. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2298 of Dundee, and a member of American Legion Post 57 of Elgin.
Survivors include his wife Jackie; 1 daughter, Kathleen (Jerry) Faries of Bermuda; 2 sons, Robert Marvin of Peoria, and Joseph (Kim) Marvin of Woodstock; 1 stepson Michael Erwin of Buffalo Grove; 4 grandchildren, Heather, Kelsey, Jason, and Robert Marvin; 4 great-grandchildren, and 4 brothers, Donald (Leona) Marvin, Kenneth (Terri) Marvin, both of Troy, NY, Arthur Marvin of California, and Douglas Marvin of High Point, NC.
preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Jack, Gordon, and Eugene; and a special sister-in-law Sandra Marvin.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 11:30 A.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Robert Blake officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Out Patient Oncology Department at Sherman Hospital or to American Legion Post 57, or V.F.W Post 2298 of Dundee or Masses would be appreciated.

Ethel "Peaches" Miller
Ethel "Peaches" Miller, 51, of Elgin passed away Saturday, November 30 2002 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born September 12, 1951 in Mounds, the daughter of Elmo and Ethel Lynn Clark Venson.
She was a member of Progressive Baptist Church, Elgin.
Survivors include her husband James; 2 daughters Jacqueline Williams of Hanover Park, Melissa Williams of Elgin, 6 sons, Frank Miller of MS, Mike (Alma) Miller of MD, Charles (Phillis) Miller of Aurora, Troy and Aubrey Miller both of Winfield, and Michael Miller of Elgin; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers.
She is preceded in death by a grandson and an aunt.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Progressive Baptist Church, Elgin with the Rev. Willie Tate Officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Bluff City Elgin.

Dorothy M. Smith
Dorothy M. Smith, 76, of Carpentersville died Sunday, December 1, 2002 at her home.
She was born on December 12, 1925 in Chicago, the daughter of William and Mary (nee Kapla) Haupt.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gary Held of Carpentersville; two granddaughters, Amy Larsen of Elgin and Amanda Larsen of Hanover Park; and a grandson, Marcus Caldwell of Carpentersville. Dorothy is also survived by a special family, Clyde and Janet Larsen of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, William, Robert, Floyd and Albert Haupt.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Resurrection cemetery, Justice.
There will be no visitation.
The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is in charge of arrangements.

Myra Leah Hannell
Myra Leah Hannell, 80, of Elgin and formerly Largo, FL, passed away November 22, 2003 at Brighton Gardens, St. Charles, IL. She was born May 22, 1923 in Bloomington, IL and was the daughter of Dewey and Irene (Conrad) Stone.
She was the loving and cherished mother of six children, Tony (Gay) Hannell of Huntley, IL, Mark (Amy) Hannell of Ocala, FL, Patrick (Kathy) Hannell of Huntley, IL, Denice (Gerhard) Kark of La Grange Park, IL, Pam (Julie Appelhoff) Hannell of Elgin, IL, Tim (Gale) Hannell of Corte Madera, CA; seven grandchildren, Annette Miller, Scott Hannell, Kim (Tim) Hopkins, Mike (Mollie) Hannell, Matt Hannell, Amy Hannell, Greg (Nikki) Hannell; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Barry Stone of Hoopeston, IL.
She was a preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dr. John (Jack) Hannell in 1975.
Mrs. Hannell was an avid gardener, golfer, cook, and traveler. She created a home rich in affection and encouragement for her family. She devoted her life to her God, friends and family, and her parting was bittersweet.
Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Huntley, IL with Fr. Garrity officiating. Burial will follow at the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Chicago, 800.272.3900. Arrangements by Laird Funeral Homes of West Dundee and Elgin.

Elizabeth C. "Betty" Kostock
Elizabeth C. "Betty" Kostock, 83, of Willow Lake Estates in Elgin passed away Monday, December 1, 2003 in her home. She was born February 6, 1920 in Chicago and was the daughter of James and Lavina Sheridan. She was an active member of many clubs and organizations at Willow Lake Estates. She will be missed by many close friends and relatives.
She was an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, as well as a member of the Senior Friendship Club and helping in many activities at the church.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen (Bernhard) Kott of Palatine; two sons, William (Arlene) Kostock Jr. of Santa Barbara, California and Michael (Jill) Kostock of Elgin; her grandchildren, James (Marilyn) Kott, Jeffrey (Christine) Kott, Michael Kott, Kelly Kostock, Katie Kostock, Brian Kostock; a great-grandchild, Michelle Kott; two step-great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Kellie Predmore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, William J. Kostock Sr. in 1996; one grandson, John C. Kott.
Funeral Mass will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery, River Grove, IL. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 State St., Elgin on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and then at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Mass. Omission of flowers is requested and memorials may be given to Hospice at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin or to the American Cancer Society.

Ralph C. Underwager
Ralph C. Underwager, age 74, of Northfield, Minnesota, died November 29, 2003. He was born July 28, 1929, in Elgin, Illinois, to Ralph and Hazel (Volkening) Underwager.
Survivors include his wife, Hollinda Wakefield Underwager; a son, Mark Underwager; a daughter, Rachel (Tom) Larson; a stepdaughter, Jean Dickson (Timothy) Feeney; grandchildren, Benjamin and Jana Larson, Claire and James Feeney; and sister, Kay (Frank) Gillespie.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, James Wakefield Dickson.
Dr. Underwager, a 1955 graduate of the Concordia Seminary, was an ordained pastor with the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He served as a pastor at Lynwood Lutheran Church (California), Zion Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church (Iowa) and Grace Lutheran Church (Colorado). He was assistant pastor at Christ Church Lutheran in Minneapolis from 1966 to 1976. From 1980 to 1983, he was associate pastor at the Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Chanhassen.
Dr. Underwager received his Ph.D. in 1970 from the University of Minnesota. He was a research scientist at Youth Research Center in Minneapolis from 1969 to 1972. From 1972 to 1975, he was an associate professor at St. Olaf College in Northfield. In 1974, Dr. Underwager founded the Institute for Psychological Therapies and served as its director with his wife, Hollinda Wakefield, until the time of his death. in 1998, Dr. Underwager was elected a Fellow with the American Psychological Society. Over the years, Dr. Underwager consulted in over 1000 cases of sexual abuse of children as well as false accusations of sexual abuse. As a licensed psychologist, Dr. Underwager and his wife published books and papers, and presented numerous seminars and workshops on sexual abuse allegations and related issues.
Funeral service Wednesday, 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Northfield, MN. Memorials to the James Wakefield Dickson Memorial Scholarship Fund or to the Heifer Project International.
