Doris Puffpaff
Doris Puffpaff, 93, of Albany, Oregon, formerly of Jefferson, Oregon, passed away on December 1, 2003. She was born April 10, 1910 in Crawford County, Wisconsin, the daughter of David and Stella (Burns) Mullikin.
Mrs. Puffpaff moved to Elgin, Illinois as a young girl. She met her husband, Levern Puffpaff, while working at the Elgin Watch Company. They married
on August 31, 1932. She moved to Ontario, California in 1951 and then to Jefferson, Oregon in 1968. She was a homemaker and had also worked for the U.S. Postal Department.
She was a Gray Lady, volunteering at different military hospitals.
Survivors include her son, Vern Puffpaff of Salem, OR; her daughter, Virginia Whinery of Brookings, OR; two grandchildren; her sister, Mary Simons of Elkhorn, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on July 19, 1991; ten brothers and sisters.

D. Ray Wilson
D. Ray Wilson, 77, passed away December 2, 2003 at the University of Chicago Hospital, Chicago. He was born on January 16, 1926 in Riverdale, California and was the son of Elmer and Hannah Wilson.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice; daughters, Jeri Salzmann, Vicky (James) Harrington, Margaret (Douglas) Phares; a son-in-law, Larry Kamper; grandchildren, Elizabeth Kamper, Nicholas Salzmann, Michelle Kamper, Rober Harrington, Connor Phares, Matthew Harrington, Morgan Phares, and Erin Phares; brothers, William Wilson, Richard Wilson, and Charles Wilson; and sisters Barbara Crombie, Alice Wylie, Shirley Wilson, and Diane Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother, Elmer; his brother, John Wilson; and his daughter, Juli Kamper.
Wilson was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Air Force after the war. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.
He spent most of his life in some aspect of journalism, including more than 35 years as editor and publisher of weekly and daily newspapers. He retired as editor and publisher of the Daily Courier News, Elgin, IL and the Daily Journal, Wheaton, IL after 21 years of service. He served as a vice president of Copley Press, Inc. and as a member of the Copley Newspaper Senior Management Board. After his retirement, he formed Crossroads Communications, where he continued to write and publish books. A graduate of Northern Illinois University, he is the author of a dozen books, including historical tour guides and books of history.
In education, Wilson has served as a trustee of Judson College, Elgin since 1970; a member of the Board of Governors, State Colleges and Universities; director Elgin Community College Foundation; public member, Publications Board, Northern Illinois University; director and chairman of the board, Christian College of Southern Africa, Harae, Zimbabwe; trustee, Elgin Academy; national advisory board, Education Assistance, Ltd; chairman, national advisory Board, Illinois Benedictine College Lincoln Train Project. He was a founder of the Home of Guiding Hands in San Diego, California. He is the recipient of the Golden Eagle Award and an honorary doctorate from Judson College.
In Illinois, Wilson has served as director, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI); director, LSSI Alcohol/Drug Dependence Program; director, Cornerstone Foundation; state commander, Disabled American Veterans; member, Illinois Veterans Advisory Commission; president, Council on American Military Past. Wilson was founder and served as chairman of the board of VIP Council of Illinois, a program for senior citizens that had more than 50, 000 members in Northern Illinois. Illinois Lieutenant Governor Neil Hartigan gave credit to Wilson for helping to create the first State Department for the Aging in the United States. Today, this is the Illinois Senior Citizen, Human Resources and Veterans Department.
In service to the community, he has served as board member, campaign chairman, Elgin Area United Way; trustee, Sherman Hospital; trustee, Sherman Health Systems; director, 1st National Bank of Elgin; president, Two Rivers Council; Boy Scouts of America; founder chairman of the board, DuPage Heritage Gallery; chairman, Elgin Economic Development Commission; chairman, Elgin Economic Development Commission; chairman, Elgin Sesquicentennial Commission; board member, Elgin Symphony; president, Elgin Sister Cities; director, Junior Achievement; director, Wheaton Eye Foundation. He was the founder of Elgin's Annual Prayer Breakfast program. Among his many civic awards is the Silver Beaver Award presented by the Boy Scouts of America.
Visitation will be at Laird Funeral Home, 310 State St., Elgin on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Herrick Chapel at Judson College, Elgin, on Saturday, December 6, at 10:00 a.m.

Diana Margaret Engh
Diana Margaret Engh, age 63, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Monday, November 15, 2004. She was born on June 5, 1941 in Chicago, IL.
Diana was one of the most unselfish people. Always willing to help anyone in any situation and always giving of herself.
She is survived by two sons, Randy (Sabrina) Engh of Indiana and Joseph Llamas of Lake in the Hills, IL; two daughters, Maria (Richard Brand) Ortiz of Elgin and Stacy (Faron) Thurber of Elgin; nine grandchildren, Nathan (Dawn) Thurber, Nicholas Thurber, Brenton Thurber, Ashley Thurber, Jacob Thurber, Melissa (Daniel) Caban, Ryan Ortiz, Emmanuel Ortiz, Guadalupe Ortiz; and five great-grandchildren, Jason, Steven, Jessica and Robert J. Llamas, and Stephanie Caban; her mother, Ruth Skeets; one sister, Beverly (Marty) Kunz of Marengo, IL; one brother, Herbert Engh of Salem, IL; daughter-in-law, Karen Engh; and her niece and nephew, Mary Ann and Curtis Pennington of Nevada. Services were held privately.
Pauline M. Fuller
Pauline M. Fuller, 74, of Lake Marion, IL, formerly of Kewanee, died on Friday, December 3, 2004 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, IL.
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 PM on Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. David Wineinger will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, December 5, 2004 at the funeral home in Kewanee. Burial will be held in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Memorials may be left to the Diabetes association or to the Kewanee Hospital Hospice.
Mrs. Fuller was born on September 7, 1930 in Decatur, Illinois, Illinois, daughter of Dewey and Ollie Lavada (Owens0 Martin. She married
Jack H. Fuller on June 19, 1948 in Leon, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2003.
She is survived by a son, Edward (Ann) Fuller of Lake Marion, IL; a daughter, Carol (Robert) Hultman of Carpentersville, IL; three grandchildren, Jody Pettitt of Kewanee, Tanya Bihun of Lake Marion, IL and Michael (Inger) Bihun of Verona, WI; three great grandchildren, Justin N. Pettitt of Kewanee and Ashley and Adam Bihun of WI. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles, Carl and Benny Martin; and a sister, Florence Smith.
Mrs. Fuller graduated from Leon High School in 1948. She had been a homemaker. Pauline and her husband had taught square dancing and were presidents of the Ezra Brooks Bottles Collectors Club. She had been on the Kewanee Zoning & Planning Committee and had organized the March for Desert Storm so all Kewanee people in the service would receive a Christmas present. She enjoyed being with her family.
Garhardt Hagen
Garhardt Hagen, 88, of Elgin passed away Friday, December 3, 2004 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born May 3, 1916 in Fairmont, Minnesota and was the son of Herman and Johanna Hagen. He had been a resident of Dundee and Elgin most of his life and lived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee for ten years. He had been employed by Elgin Glass and Mirror before retiring. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and playing cards.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin, the Loyal Order of Moose No. 799 of Elgin, and B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 737 of Elgin.
Survivors include his wife, Adeline; one son, Galen (Sue) Hagen of Elgin; three daughters, Donna Neverdosky of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Sandra Nerriman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Sharon (Earl) Teetz of Hampshire, IL; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Caroline Brewick of Montana and Mildred Widder of Elgin; one brother, Harold (Swede) Hagen of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Thomas Niermann officiating. Burial will be in Elmlawn cemetery, Elmhurst, IL. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Albert B. Petersen
Albert B. Petersen, 91, of Burlington, passed away Thursday night, December 2, 2004 at Heritage Manor in Elgin. He was born July 2, 1913 in Burlington, the son of Fred and Mary (Pfleeger) Petersen.
Albert married
Mable M. Kiel on September 16, 1939 in North Plato and they lived in Burlington all their married
life. Mr. Petersen was retired from Playskool Manufacturing. in Hampshire and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington.
Surviving are two sons, Terry (Barbara) Petersen and Craig Petersen, both of Burlington; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kerry) Petersen, Gregory (Elizabeth) Petersen, Jennifer (Robert) Ross, Joshua and Jamie Petersen; and four great-grandchildren, Jake and Cody Petersen, and Lena and Ian Petersen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mable on August 17, 1998; and his daughter, Cindy Petersen; eight brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 6, at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., with Rev. Howard Gleason, officiating. Burial will be in the Burlington Township Union cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 PM, Sunday, at the funeral home.

William Baumann, Jr.
William Baumann, Jr., 71, of Carpentersville, died Monday, December 3, 2001 at his home. He was born in Elgin on August 19, 1930, the son of William and Hazel M. (Baumgarten) Baumann. Bill was a life long resident of the Dundee area. He was a many year employee of Milk Specialties where he worked as Plant Manager until retirement in 1991. Following retirement from Milk Specialties, Bill worked part time as a custodian Parkview Elementary School in Carpentersville. He was a Korea Conflict Veteran, an avid hunter and a member of the Upland Hunt Club of Elgin.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary M. (Loechelt) Baumann. They married
on September 11, 1954. Also surviving are two loving daughters, Peggy (John) Bulinski of East Dundee and Pam (Keith) James of Carpentersville; three grandsons, Daniel James, Shawn James and Michael Bulinski; two sisters, Melva Jean (the late Robert) Bentley of West Dundee and Helen (Dale) Bentley of Hampshire; one brother-in-law, James (Susan) Wilke of Virginia; also many nieces, nephews and friends.

James DeJoy, 79, of Elgin passed away at Asta Care Center, Elgin. He was born March 12, 1922 in Chicago.

Marguerite M. Lange
Marguerite M. Lange, age 84, of West Dundee died Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born in East Dundee on February 23, 1917. She was the daughter of William and Augusta (nee Stark) Jungnickel. Mrs. Lange was a life long resident of Dundee and a life long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Dundee.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Louis E., whom she married
on November 19, 1936; three children, Stephen (fiance Kathy Snow) Lange of Elgin, Dr. James (Christina) Lange, DDS of Fergus Falls, MN and Carol (Fred) Marwig of Hampshire; eight grandchildren, Stephen (Karin) Lange of Elgin, Karen (Greg) Precup of Aurora, Althea (Matt) Stamps of Bloomington, IN, Nicholas Lange of New York City, NY, Zachary Lange of West Point New York, Alexander Lange of Fergus Falls, MN, Amanda and Fred Marwig of Hampshire; two great-grandchildren, Maverick Lange and Zachary Precup.

John R. Martin
John R. Martin, 75 of Elgin died Monday in his home.
He was born December 15, 1925 in Elgin and was the son of George and Lillian Martin. He had been a resident of Elgin all his life. He was a veteran having served in the Army. John was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, a member of B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #737 of Elgin and a member of American Legion Post #57 of Elgin.
He is survived by his close friend, Grace Hornish of Elgin and several cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 1:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin with Dr. Robert Kasper officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be at time of services only. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
Robert E. Meyer
Robert E. Meyer, 71 of Carpentersville died Monday, December 3, 2001 at his home. He was born in Elgin on April 28, 1930. He was the son of Harry C. and Florence (nee Wascher) Meyer.
He was a life long resident of the area. He was a former 43 year employee of Material Service in Algonquin. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 150 of Elgin. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Dundee and the Immanuel Mens Club. He was a member of the Huntley Penguin Snowmobile Club. He was a former coach and game announcer for the Tri-Cities Little League. Bob was a loyal and avid Chicago Team Sports fan. He was also a devoted Grandpa who was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Carolyn M. (nee Jewell). They married
September 15, 1951. Also survived by two sons, Randall R. (Pamela) and Jeffery A. (Anita), both of Gilberts; four grandchildren, Becky, Ashley, Janelle and Lucas; two brothers, Kenneth (Marilyn) Meyer of Carpentersville and Alan (Judy) Meyer of Elgin; a sister, Marilyn (Bruce) Rakow of Roseville, CA; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Ziller.

Arnold B. Ross
Arnold B. Ross, 72, of Elgin died Tuesday, December 4, 2001 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. He was born May 23, 1929 in Garden Prairie, IL and was the son of Arnold and Mildred Ross. He had been a resident of Elgin most of his life and had owned and operated service stations in Elgin before retiring. He then was employed by Spartan Meadows Golf Course.
Member of Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; a son, Steve (Cindy) Ross of Elgin; a daughter, Judith (Patrick) McAtee of Plato Center, IL; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Cathy (Harold) Renfro of St. Charles, IL and Carol (Marvin) Miller of Danville, IL; six brothers, Ronald, Arthur and Eugene Helgeson, Albert, Gordon and Layton Ross; also his mother of Texas.

Emma Thomsen, 96, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2001 at Sherman Hospital. Born June 13, 1905 in Denver, Colorado to Hans and Elina Olesen Thomsen.
She is survived by a brother, Ejnar "Tom" Thomsen of Huntley; a sister, Alma Eakin of Nebraska and several nieces and nephews.

Todd J. Watermann, 31, of Hampshire, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2001. He was born December 9, 1969 in Rockford, Illinois. Todd resided in Elgin for many years. He was employed by Foxshire Decorating Company. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his fiancee, Lisa Schubbe of Hampshire; his father, Leland (Carol) Watermann of Huntley; his mother, Helen (Dave) Platt of Plato Center; a son, Jacob; a sister, Tanya (Gary) Palmer of South Elgin; three step-sisters, Cheryl (Bob) Abreu of Las Vegas, Cheryl Skinner of Elgin and Christine (Anthony) Maculuso of Bartlett; a step-brother, Chris (Denise) Platt of South Elgin; a grandmother, Violet Watermann of Elgin; a grandfather, Fred Bates of Golconda, Illinois and two nieces, Ashley and Erin Palmer.

Christopher Stephan McCutcheon, 30, of Lecanto, FL, died on November 27, 2004 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. He was born on March 22, 1974 in St. Charles, IL, the son of George S. and Susan L. McCutcheon.
Christopher moved to Lecanto, FL in 2004 from East Moline, IL. He was employed by Like Kind Quality Auto Salvage (LKQ) in Lecanto, FL.
Survivors include two sons, Michael S. and Christopher R. McCutcheon; their mother, Martha Riordan, all who reside in Sycamore, IL; his mother, Susan L. McCutcheon of Lecanto, FL; three sisters, Jeana Pizzuto of Altimont Springs, FL, Lisa Pizzuto of Winter Springs, FL and Nickole Baldowsky of Huntley, IL; two brothers, Tim Pizzuto and George Baldowsky, both of Lecanto, FL; his grandparents, Jay (Esther) Childs of Lecanto, FL and Harvey Altwies of West Dundee; Uncle, James M. (Dona) Childs of Sandwich; Aunt, Nancy A. Huntington of DeKalb; three nephews and a niece. Christopher is also survived by many good friends, including his step-father, Anthony Pizzuto; and his children's grandparents, Patrick and Susan Ducar.
He was preceded in death by his father George McCutcheon; his grandparents, Myrtle L. Pedersen, Erna M. Altwies, Donald Aggerbeck and Helene R. Childs.

Gerald A. Miller
Gerald A. Miller, 59, of Rockford died on December 2, 2004 in his home. Born on June 23, 1945 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Blain and Mabel (Dieckmann) Miller. He served in the Army from 1961 to 1963. He lived 14 years in Rockford, coming here from Elgin. He married
Sandy Rowe on September 21, 1969.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy; daughters, Dawn Miller (Mike) Stoner, Denise Miller (Wayne) Sylvester; granddaughter, Emily Grace Stoner.
Predeceased by his parents.

Evelyn Mae Robbins, 85, of Elgin passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004 in Tower Hill Health Care Center in South Elgin. She was born October 13, 1919 in Delta, Colorado, the daughter of James and Edna McClanahan.
Surviving are a son, John (Rita) Robbins of Elgin; three grandchildren, Gail (David) Gutierrez, Sara Robbins and Becky Robbins; and two great grandchildren.
Grave-side services will be held Tuesday at 10 AM in Plato Center cemetery. There will be no visitation. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of services.

Tamara Smith, 50, of Kankakee, IL, formerly Elgin, passed away November 23, 2004. She was born on November 26, 1953 in Kankakee, IL and was the daughter of Fred and Martha (Karupka) Mitzel. She was a graduate of Larking High School in 1972.
She is survived by three children, Ian, Ashley and Emily Smith all of Kankakee, IL; a granddaughter; her mother and step father, Martha (Franklin) Mitzel-Hupe of St. Charles, IL; her brother, Michael (Jana) Mitzel of West Brooklyn, IL; her step sisters, Jenny, Shauna and Sheila Hupe; a step brother, David Hupe; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; and a step brother, Daniel H. Hupe.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 27, 2004 in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and burial was in Prairie cemetery, St. Charles, IL. Memorials may be made to the family for a future education fund for her children.
