Debra Ann Schuldt (nee Livingston)
Debra Ann Schuldt (nee Livingston), age 39, passed away January 19, 2006 at Good Shepherd Hospital. She was a longtime resident of Carpentersville.
Beloved wife of Todd; loving mother of David, Jessica, Kaitlyn and Jacob; fond sister of Deanna (James) Hicks and Fred (Robin) Livingston, Jr.; beloved daughter of Fred and Carolyn Livingston; fond aunt of Joey, Alex, Brittany, Jimmy, Fred III and Shane.
preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.
Debra was a wonderful mom, loving wife and a kind friend. Deb had a beautiful smile. She will always be remembered for her kindness and what a beautiful person she was.
The Celebration will be January 29, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Dundee from 3:00-8:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at the church January 30, 2006 at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Schuldt family. Arrangements by Elegy Cremation and Memorial Services 877-565-7070.

Barbara E. Phelps
Barbara E. Phelps, 79, of Elgin went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Sherman Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. A life-long Elgin resident, she was born December 3, 1926, the daughter of Ezra and Rose (Grimm) Steffen. She married William T. Phelps on August 23, 1947. She was a graduate of Elgin High School and Sherman Hospital School of Nursing. Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse for 34 years at Sherman Hospital before retiring in 1991.
Barbara was a long-time member of Grace Evangelical Church of Elgin serving in many ways. She was a long-time Friend of Judson College volunteer. Her passions included serving her family, gardening, needlework, baking, playing bridge, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 58 years; her six children, Rebecca R. (Stephen) Heilemann of Bartlett, Stephanie (Jon) Hanchett of Shawano, WI, Lorna C. (Gary) Gowler of Elgin, William T. Phelps, Jr., of Bakersfield, CA, Grant O. (Judy Lohse) Phelps of Buena Vista, CO, and Daniel H. (Amy Schilberg) Phelps of Colorado Springs, CO; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Nathan (Marilyn) Steffen of Elgin, Dr. Grant (Stuart) Steffen of Denver, CO, Garth (Connie) Steffen of Portland, OR, and Fred (Judy) Steffen of Elgin; and two sisters, Lorna (Don) Schrock of Morton, IL and Ellie (Dave) Hanchett of Scottsdale, AZ.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her sister, Anne (Bill) Carroll; and grandchildren, Brian W. Phelps and Bethany L. Gowler.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at Grace Evangelical Church at 1800 Bowes Road in Elgin, with Pastor Dave Bohyer officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2006 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at Laird Funeral Home at 310 S. State St., Elgin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Fox Valley and the Community Crisis Center of Elgin.

Rufus E. Williams
Rufus E. Williams, 81, of Bullhead City, AZ, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2006 in Bullhead City. He had been a resident of Arizona for the past 20 years.
Surviving are his son, Christopher Scott Williams of Arizona; and his sister, Zella Carr of Elgin.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, 10:00 AM at Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

James R. Wood
James R. Wood, 56, of Elgin, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 19, 2006, in his home. He was born on September 2, 1949, in Birmingham, Alabama.
He lived in the Chicago-Elgin area since he was six years old. He was the son of Theron and Betty Wood. James worked at Pactiv Corporation for many years and was very fond of his co-workers that surrounded him. He was very active in coaching soccer. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved his Alabama Crimson Tide college football team with a true passion. His greatest times were spent with his two children, Michael and Stephanie, and his future daughter-in-law, Jenny, whom he loved very much. He wasn't just a loving father, but was also a great friend and inspired his children to always follow their dreams. His boys, Mike, Sam, Bryan, Jeremy and Drew, whom he also considered "sons" and his best friends, Barb, Steve, Russ and Billy, will miss his laughter, love and especially the good times with him.
He is survived by his son, Michael James of Florida; his daughter, Stephanie Carol; his father, Theron Wood of Florence, Alabama; his sister, Donna (Glen) Vaughn of Florence, Alabama; his grandmother Granny (GrandDad Oliver) O'Galloway of Birmingham, Alabama; his nephew, Alex Vaughn; his niece, Eve Vaughn and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Wood.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. in the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin, IL 60120. Burial will follow in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 9 P.M. in the funeral chapel.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Pearl M. Bergquist
Pearl M. Bergquist, 82, of Elgin, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001 in her home.
She was born Oct. 5, 1918 in Honor, Mich., the daughter of Harold and Ella Brown.
She had been a resident of Chicago most of her life, moving to Elgin in 1989.
Survivors include two daughters,Sandra Karnatz of South Elgin and Karen (Lawrence) Samuelson of Woodstock; a son, Warren Bergquist of Arlington Heights; eight grandchildren, Kurt (Julie) Karnatz, Bret (Katrin) Karnatz, Michael Karnatz, Dawn (Gary) Laird, Jennifer Bergquist, Eric (Sarah) Samuelson, Sharon Samuelson and Kristin Samuelson; five great-grandchildren, Camille, Madlan Karnatz, Miriam Karnatz, Zoe Karnatz and Courtney Laird; and a sister, Joyce Coughlin of Chicago.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Mary Crowley officiating. Burial will be in Acacia Park cemetery, Chicago.
Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday from 3-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Integrated Health Services, 152 W. Center St., Schaumburg, IL. 60195.

Gladys G. Cade
Gladys G. Cade, 83, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001 in Loyola Medical Center, Maywood.
She was born Aug. 2, 1917 in LeClaire, Iowa, the daughter of George and Ada McGowan Shannon.
She had been a resident of the Elgin area since 1957. She had been employed by the Elgin Mental Health Center for 17 years before retiring. She received her B.A. from Northeastern Illinois University in 1977.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Elgin.
Survivors include five daughters, Sylvia (Marvin) Harrell of Algonquin, Karole (Thomas) Gunter of W. Frankfurt, Ill., Cherryle "Chich" Fritz, Kelly (John)Duncan and Kristi Bergmann, all of Elgin; a son, Phillip (Barbara) Cade of Oak Hill, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandson; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Cade of Bettendorf, Iowa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville in 1957; a son, John M. in 1992; two brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Titus Solomon officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Elgin.

David Michael Lambert
David Michael Lambert, infant, passed away Jan. 17, 2001 in Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge.
He was born Dec. 9, 2000, the son of Michael and Rebecka Lambert. Ourangel stayed long enough to touch our hearts, along with many others.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m., Thursday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, the Rev. Mark Lund officiating. Burial will be private at Bluff City cemetery, Elgin.

Celestina Schifferer
Celestina Schifferer, 94, of Elgin, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 in the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.
She was born Aug. 22, 1903 in Chicago, the daughter of Rudolph and Katherine Pusch.
She was a resident of Elgin most of her life moving to Sabetha in 1994. She had been employed by St. Joseph Hospital before retiring. She attended the Apostolic Christian Church of Elgin and was a member of the St. Joseph Auxillary.
Survivors include a daughter, Eileen (Rudy) Bahr of Gridley, Kansas; a son,Howard (Patricia) Schifferer of Elgin; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam in 1962; a grandchild, Jon Bahr; two sisters, Bertha Dyer and Dorothy Ostring; and a brother, Alfred Pusch.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday in the Apostolic Christian Church in Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.
Friends may call 4-9 p.m., Thursday in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services in the church.

Rev. Onis Varney
Rev. Onis Varney, age 73 of Elgin passed away Monday, January 22, 2001 in his home.
He was born June 16, 1927 in Stone, Kentucky the son of Henry and Florence Hensley Varney. He had been a resident of Elgin from 1961 until moving to Cherry, IL in 1990 and then returning to Elgin in 2000. He had been employed as a Die Setter by Chicago Rawhide in Elgin for 27 years before retiring. He had served as a minister at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Elgin. He was a veteran of the Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Elgin.
Surviving are his wife-Millie Deskins Varney whom he married on October 22, 1955; three daughters, Devonna (David) Sorenson of Mulberry, AR, Cathy Varney of Elgin, Laura (Gary) Singleton of Elgin; two sons, Onis "Dean" (Tracy) Varney of Elgin, Gary (Libby) Deskins of Union, IL; nine grandchildren, Adam (Jeralyn), Steven, Elissa, Candice, Austin, Charey, Elsie, Gary (Kim) Deskins Jr., and Sara Deskins; a great-granddaughter, Emily; two brothers, James (Etta) Varney of Osseo, MI and Woody (Pam) Varney of Lagrange, OH.
preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Carl Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation on Wednesday from 4 until 9 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church.

Velma Loraine Walker
Velma Loraine Walker, 90, of Elgin died Sunday, January 21, 2001 in her home.
She was born on a farm in Plato Township, the daughter of Frank Wilbur and Grace Elizabeth Vanorden Walker.
She attended local schools, graduating in 1928. Upon graduation from Northern Illinois University she taught locally for 12 years. Later, she was a teacher and principal in District 300 for 26 years. She was the recipient of the Retired Teacher of the Year Award. Her loves were travel, bridge, family genealogy, working with the local blood bank, and gardening where she grew a black iris. She was a member of Retired Teacher's Association, American Association of University Women, and Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include 2 sisters, Florence E. Therrien of Florida and Marjorie A. (Bruce) Boyer of Colorado; five nephews and one niece; 18 great-nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edwin E. Walker; and a sister, Alice E. Walker
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 10 AM in the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel. Burial will be in Plato Center cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 PM Friday, January 26 at the Chapel.
In lieu of lowers, memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church or the American Association of University Women Scholarship Fund.

Ida Carlson
Ida Carlson, age 81, of Elgin, died January 22, 2002 at Alderwood Health Center, South Elgin. Born April 11, 1920 to Maria and Carlo Carretto.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lester Carlson of Elgin; two sisters, Josephine (Ray) Cox of Elgin and Jeanette Murray of Palmetto, FL; a brother, Frank (Deloris) Carretto of Elgin and nieces and nephews.
preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Marie Waterman and a niece, Patricia Kalalman.

Winifred A. Conley, age 84, Senior Partner of Conley Funeral Home, Elburn, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday afternoon, January 22, 2002, after a long and brave battle with ill health.
