Gerald L. "Jerry" Shoop
Gerald L. "Jerry" Shoop, 79, of Gilberts died Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at the Provena-St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Connesville, MO on November 10, 1923, the son of Lon and Margaret (nee Stokes) Shoop. Gerald was raised in Knoxville, IA and had been a resident of Gilberts for 46 years. He was owner and operator of G.L. Excavating Company in Gilberts for 32 years. He was a longtime member of Local #150 Operating Engineers. Gerald devoted his life to making his business a success. He always had time to help his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 1/2 years, Elsie I. (nee Rittierodt), one daughter, Vicky (Nick) Klaras of Elgin, four grandchildren, Lori, Jennifer, Jason and Aimee, five great grandchildren, Corey, McKinzie, Corey, Kaitlyn and Kari, one sister, Wilma Karr of Knoxville, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Larry W. Shoop in 1969.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
Timothy A. Buchanan
Timothy A. Buchanan, 51, of Elgin passed away Sunday, January 22, 2006. He was born on September 1, 1954 in Chicago, IL and was the son of Theodore and Lillian Buchanan. Timothy had worked at the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years prior to retirement. Timothy was a talented musician, and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Christine of Elgin; five brothers, Blaise (Reba), Mark Anthony (Eugenia), Ted, Michael (Janice) and Daniel; a sister, Mary Buchanan; and many close family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St. (Corner of Third and Oregon), West Dundee, IL, 60118. Burial will follow in Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee, IL. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
Norman L. Drafall
Norman L. Drafall, 88 of Elgin, died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Provena St. Joseph's Hospital.
The son of Frank and Amanda (Rath) Drafall, he was born in Dundee on April 13, 1917.
Norm was an avid gardener, and bowler. He was a proud member of the Senior Mixed League at Bowl Way, Elgin, and Senior Men's League at Elgin Lanes. He belonged to the Elgin Senior Center, and Senior Club of Elgin Federal Savings Bank. Norm loved golf, and he was a life-long (third-oldest member) of the First Congregational Church of Dundee.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter and LeRoy; and first wife, Ruth in 1968.
Norm is survived by his fiancee, Rayette (Miller); Judy (Elwyn) Naber of Elgin; Janet (Alvin) Hennig of Hampshire; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 25, 2006 from 9:00 AM until time of Private Family Funeral Services at 11:00 AM at the O'Connor - Leetz Funeral Home, Elgin, with Pastor Pamela Poindexter officiating, from the First Congregational Church of Dundee. Private burial will follow at Dundee Township cemetery East. Memorials may be made in Norm's memory to the charity of one's choice.
Edith M. Mickelsen
Edith M. Mickelsen, 78, of Burlington passed away suddenly Friday, January 20, 2006 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
She was born February 18, 1927 in Chicago, the daughter of Sam and Sigrid (Clausen) Thorgesen. Edith married
Donald B. Mickelsen at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles on October 5, 1946. They resided in Elgin for 28 years before moving to Burlington Township. Mrs. Mickelsen was a former employee of the Burgess-Norton Mfg. Co. of Geneva and of Lee Wards in Elgin. She was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church of North Plato, the Monday Morning Quilters, and was a former Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are her beloved husband, Don; two daughters, Sandra (Blaine) Royer of Mundelein and Lorene (Bill) Perkins of Roscoe; five grandchildren, Ryan (Jennifer) Flickinger, Emily Caldeira, Chris Mains, Nicole Mains and Allison Perkins; a sister, Wilma (Leon) Peterson of Elgin; brothers, Nels (Margie) Thorgesen of Aurora and Kenneth (Judy) Thorgesen of Maple Park; and a sister-in-law, Ardyne Thorgesen of Colorado Springs, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Sam Thorgesen and Robert in infancy; and a sister, Marie (Jack) Blaisdell.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, January 26, 2006 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Rd., North Plato with Pastor Gerhard Mau officiating. Burial will follow in the North Plato cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Plato.

Otto H. Nagel
Otto H. Nagel, age 98, of Geneva, died Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Geneva Care Center, Geneva, IL. He was born January 19, 1908 in St. Charles, IL.
Mr. Nagel was a member of the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Union #501 for more that 50 years. He also was a member of the Geneva Masonic Lodge and the Geneva Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Jeanne; a daughter, Janet (Mark) Johnson of Geneva, IL; stepson, Jack Adams of Tehachapi, California; three grandchildren, Kathyrn, Matthew and Alyssa Johnson; also a step-grandchild, Don (Kathy) Adams of Aurora, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mathilda Nagel; his sisters, Freda Swanson, Dora Johnson and Elsie Dau; also two brothers, William and Edward Nagel.
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 P.M., Thursday, January 26, 2006 at the Yurs-Wittenberg Funeral Home, Geneva. Paul Hayes officiating. Burial will be at Garfield cemetery, Campton Twp. George David Palmer
George David Palmer, 'our little man with a big heart', died on Friday, January 20, 2006 at the age of 72 in the Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua, WI. Born May 5, 1933, the son of Leo and Ruth (Friedline) Palmer in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, he had 12 brothers and sisters.
In 1949, George entered the Armed Forces, where he served two years in the National Guard and four years in the Air Force. During his time in the military, George served proudly in the Korean War. He married
Joan Jackson on November 11, 1956, and together they had six children. George remarried
Mabel Reiker Bushbaum on June 15, 1981 in Chicago, Illinois. Shortly after retirement in 1994, he moved to LaFarge, Wisconsin from Streamwood, Illinois. George was a loyal member of the Moose Lodge and always remained a loyal Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Many of his enjoyments were gardening, lending a helping hand and visiting with friends at happy hour.
Survivors include six children, Dennis (Liz) Palmer of Bartlett, Illinois, Pat (Penny) Palmer of LaFarge, Wisconsin, Ed Palmer of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Lisa (Tod) Bauer of South Elgin, Illinois, Kris (Dan) Chapman of McHenry, Illinois, Laura (Dayton) Allen of St. Charles, Illinois; 16 grandchildren, five sisters of Pennsylvania; and other relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel Palmer, on November 8, 2000; and six brothers.
A Memorial Service was held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at the LaFarge Free Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will be held on May 5, 2006 in the Bear Creek cemetery. A celebration will be held in George's honor this spring, in LaFarge. The Seland-Huston Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrengements.

Barbara E. Phelps
Barbara E. Phelps, 79, of Elgin went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Sherman Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. A life-long Elgin resident, she was born December 3, 1926, the daughter of Ezra and Rose (Grimm) Steffen. She married
William T. Phelps on August 23, 1947. She was a graduate of Elgin High School and Sherman Hospital School of Nursing. Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse for 34 years at Sherman Hospital before retiring in 1991.
Barbara was a long-time member of Grace Evangelical Church of Elgin serving in many ways. She was a long-time Friend of Judson College volunteer. Her passions included serving her family, gardening, needlework, baking, playing bridge, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 58 years; her six children, Rebecca R. (Stephen) Heilemann of Bartlett, Stephanie (Jon) Hanchett of Shawano, WI, Lorna C. (Gary) Gowler of Elgin, William T. Phelps, Jr., of Bakersfield, CA, Grant O. (Judy Lohse) Phelps of Buena Vista, CO, and Daniel H. (Amy Schilberg) Phelps of Colorado Springs, CO; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Nathan (Marilyn) Steffen of Elgin, Dr. Grant (Stuart) Steffen of Denver, CO, Garth (Connie) Steffen of Portland, OR, and Fred (Judy) Steffen of Elgin; and two sisters, Lorna (Don) Schrock of Morton, IL and Ellie (Dave) Hanchett of Scottsdale, AZ.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her sister, Anne (Bill) Carroll; and grandchildren, Brian W. Phelps and Bethany L. Gowler.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at Grace Evangelical Church at 1800 Bowes Road in Elgin, with Pastor Dave Bohyer officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2006 from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at Laird Funeral Home at 310 S. State St., Elgin. Titus J. Solomon "Man of God"
Funeral Services for Titus J. Solomon, 67, of Elgin, will be held on Thursday, January 26 at 6:30 PM at First Christian Church, 1125 Summit St., Elgin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, January 25 at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State, Elgin. Please bring your memories for his grandchildren.
Titus was born August 10, 1938 in Cape Town, South Africa to Harry and Sarah Solomon. God gently called him home to glory Tuesday, January 17, 2006, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Titus preached the Gospel of Christ for 48 years. He began in Cape Town and continued as a student preacher at Oak wood Christian Church in Southern Missouri. Upon graduation in 1967 from Ozark Bible College in Joplin, MO, he became minister of Orleans Christian Church in Orleans, IN. He came to First Christian Church in Elgin in 1974, where he preached until his retirement in 2004.
He was the beloved husband of Evelyn (nee Root); loving father to his children, Tanya (Joshua) Reitz, Mark (Charity) Solomon, and Andrea (Brian) Mamola; and the adoring grandfather to seven grandchildren; Josiah, Glory, Solomon, Jonah, Emmanuelle, Ana, and Journey.
He also survived by three brothers and five sisters; he is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters. He leaves a legacy of shared faith, Love, compassion, and lives touched, too many to count. God has blessed those who knew Titus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Ozark Christian College, 1111 Main Street, Joplin, MO will be appreciated.
James R. Wood
James R. Wood, 56, of Elgin, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 19, 2006, in his home. He was born on September 2, 1949, in Birmingham, Alabama.
He lived in the Chicago-Elgin area since he was six years old. He was the son of Theron and Betty Wood. James worked at Pactiv Corporation for many years and was very fond of his co-workers that surrounded him. He was very active in coaching soccer. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved his Alabama Crimson Tide college football team with a true passion. His greatest times were spent with his two children, Michael and Stephanie, and his future daughter-in-law, Jenny, whom he loved very much. He wasn't just a loving father, but was also a great friend and inspired his children to always follow their dreams. His boys, Mike, Sam, Bryan, Jeremy and Drew, whom he also considered "sons" and his best friends, Barb, Steve, Russ and Billy, will miss his laughter, love and especially the good times with him.
He is survived by his son, Michael James of Florida; his daughter, Stephanie Carol; his father, Theron Wood of Florence, Alabama; his sister, Donna (Glen) Vaughn of Florence, Alabama; his grandmother Granny (GrandDad Oliver) O'Galloway of Birmingham, Alabama; his nephew, Alex Vaughn; his niece, Eve Vaughn and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Wood.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. in the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin, IL 60120. Burial will follow in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 9 P.M. in the funeral chapel.

Hildur F. Young
Hildur F. Young, 90, of Aurora, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 21, 2006. She was born January 29, 1915 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Sigfrid and Margaret Forsberg.
She was a graduate of Lakeview High School in Chicago and worked as a bookkeeper at Q Candy and Company in Aurora and Staudt and Neumann later known as Neumann Medical Aides where she retired at the age of 72.
Hildur had many hobbies including cooking, gardening, sewing, shopping and going out for lunch. She especially enjoyed making teddy bears with her husband, Melvin, (she would sew and he would stuff). She was a diehard Cubs Fan, perhaps due to living across the street from Wrigley Field had some influence. She also enjoyed walking with her close friend, Jeri Besco. Hildur loved her family very much especially her grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife of the late Melvin. Loving mother of Janet (Jerry) Marzuki of Elgin and Margaret "Peggy" (Conrad) Gosselin of Aurora. Proud grandmother of Jeff (Marie) Marzuki of Bolingbrook, Jill (Jeff) Pfundstein of Lake in the Hills and Jay Marzuki of Chicago. Great grandmother of Kelsey Pfundstein, Franchesca and Katrina Marzuki.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Bernice Forsberg.

Dorothy Dahn
Dorothy Dahn, 89, of Elgin died Sunday, January 21, 2001 in Heritage Manor in Elgin.
She was born July 16, 1911 in Oden, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Dollie Ann Litteral Harris.
She had been a resident of Elgin since 1927 and had been employed by the Elgin National Watch Co. before retiring.
Surviving are a daughter, Pattie Quandt of Elgin; a son, Ronald (Carol) Hecht of South Elgin; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adelbert Dahn in 1973; five sisters; two brothers; a son-in-law, Donald Quandt; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hecht; and two grandchildren in infancy.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 AM in Bluff City cemetery with Rev. Mary Wise officiating. There will be no visitation. The Laird Funeral Home in Elgin is in charge of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice or to DuPage County Hospice.
