Shirley R. Hayden
Shirley R. Hayden, 71, of Elgin passed away Friday, January 17, 2003 in Lexington Health Care in Wheeling, IL. She was born July 5, 1931 in Elgin and was the daughter of George and Hazel Lang. She had been a resident of Elgin all her life. She had been employed by Young Shoe World at Ackemann's Department Store in Elgin for 20 years and then assisted her husband Dr. Peter Hayden in his office before retiring. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church of Elgin.
Surviving are one daughter, Debra Ann Christensen of Chicago, one son, Kevin (Lisa) Christensen of Buffalo Grove, IL, three grandchildren, Nathan, Neal and Claire Christensen, two sisters, Audrey Degener of Loves Park, IL and Barbara Jewell of Sandwich, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Gene Christensen and her second husband, Dr. Peter Hayden.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 25 at 3 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Mabel Rice officiating. Burial will be private in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Alzheimers Association.

William Jesse Kahle
William Jesse Kahle, 80, of Tupelo, OK, formerly of Capron, IL passed away January 19, 2003 in Oklahoma. He was born January 12, 1923 in Hampshire, IL and was the son of Edward and Frances (Stringer) Kahle. Graduate of Elgin High School in 1940. He was a Veteran, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. William was associated with farming his whole life, and retired from Farm & Fleet in 1988. He moved to Tupelo, OK, along with his wife, to his ranch, in March of 1996.
He was a member of VFW Post 1198 of Colgate, OK, a lifetime member of American Simmental Association and a member of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Doris (Richardson), whom he married on January 27, 1946, three children, Kenneth (Olga) Kahle of Newton, MS, Joyce (Dave) Stege of Evansville, WI and Barbara (Terry) McCurry of Marengo, IL, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, his sister, Phyllis Anderson of Wisconsin, many nieces and nephews and a lot of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Fern Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with Rev. Jeff Torgerson officiating. Burial will be in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock, IL. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

William Frank Keeker
William Frank Keeker, 69, of Sun Lakes, Arizona died Saturday, January 18, 2003 in Chandler Arizona.
He was born May 13, 1933 in Elgin, Illinois, where he was raised, to the late Roy and Viola (Wendt) Keeker.
He was a skilled barber throughout his life. William had also lived many years in St. Charles and Geneva, Illinois before moving to Arizona in 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Natalie Keeker; three daughters, Gail Horn, Richarda (Wes) Feldter, and Sandra Kenney; a step son, Mark (Joanne) Hutten; 11 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Chandler, Arizona.
Contributions to The Good Samaritan Ministry or to St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3450 W. Ray Road, Chandler, AZ, 85224 or to The Phoenix Rescue Mission, 1801 S. 35th Ave, Phoenix, AZ, 85009 have been suggested by his family.

Ralph "Corke" Linke
Ralph Erich Linke, 62, of Elgin died Sunday January 19, 2003 at Sherman Hospital surrounded by hi loving family. He was born November 20, 1940 in Chicago, IL, the son of Erich and Mildred Linke. He grew up in Fox River Grove and was a resident of Elgin for 30 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War (USS Wainwright DLG-28). He had been an employee of Compaq Computer Corporation (formerly Digital Equipment Corporation) for 20 years before retiring in June of 2002.
Ralph is survived by a brother, Erwin Linke of Ascension Island, UK; two sons, Robert (Jennie) Linke of St. Charles, Jeremy (Michelle) Linke of Mount Prospect; and a grandson, Connor.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Virgene (Lorenz).
Cork devoted his entire life to raising and spending time with his two sons. He was always giving of his time to family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2003 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin (847-741-1128)
Inurnment will be private in Windridge cemetery, Cary.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

Frank W. Luscher
Frank W. Luscher, 77, of Elgin passed away Saturday, January 18, 2003 in his home. He was born August 28, 1925 in Elgin the son of Adolph F. and Lillian Zirk Luscher. After graduating from Elgin High School in 1944 he served over two years in the U.S. Army Field Artillery, being awarded the American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Good Conduct and the Campaign and service Victory Would War II Medals.
He was a lifelong resident of Elgin. He worked with his father and brother, Earl at Luscher's Auto Parts for 12 years and retired from Shakeproof, Division of IL Tool Works Inc. after 27 years.
He is survived by a step-son, Jeffrey (Kathy) Tyler, MD, step-daughter, Dr. Corinne Tyler, four step-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, brother-in-law, Robert McGraw of South Elgin and a sister-in-law, Carol Luscher of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Sue Carol Luscher in 1973 and his second wife, Sylvia Tyler Luscher in 1998, two brothers, Erwin and Earl and two sisters, Arleen Fakles and Jean McGraw.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until time of services.

Audrey J. McGrath
Audrey J. McGrath, 65, of Elgin, passed away Sunday in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born June 8, 1937 in Caledonia, MN and was the daughter of Paul and Lillian Wagner Ranzenberger. She was a Registered Nurse, and had worked at Alderwood Care Center in South Elgin. Audrey loved her work, and enjoyed taking trips to Chicago with her friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Elgin.
Survivors include two sons, Steve and Paul McGrath of Elgin, grandchild, Christina Schoiber; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William in 1993; her son Daniel in infancy; a sister, Geraldine Huesmann; a brother, Reginald Ranzenberger.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday January 23, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with Rev. Geoffrey Wirth officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with prayers recited at 7:00 p.m., and on Thursday at the Church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services in the church.

Harold W. Salmon
Harold W. Salmon, born October 7, 1919 to Howard and Nellie Hall Salmon in McLean, IL, died January 19, 2003 in Tucson, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Ahlstrand, and is survived by his wife, Patricia Robinson Salmon; son, Howard (Leslie) Salmon; daughter, Mary (Jim) Nelson; granddaughters, Gailyn (Danny) Davies, Emily Nelson and Elizabeth Nelson; grandson, Derek Berg; niece, Nancy Kay (Vern) Franklin.
Harold served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, as president of Sherman Hospital from 1959-1979, and as president of the Illinois Hospital Association. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite.

Merrill E. "Skip" Sinclair
Merrill E. "Skip" Sinclair, 72, of Elgin, IL passed away Monday, January 20, 2003 at home. He was born September 16, 1930 in Elgin to Merrill Mario and Helen Clarissa (Bradley) Sinclair. He had served in the Army during the Korean War and was employed as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of Union Local 150 and a 35 year member of American Legion Post #57.
He is survived by his wife, Dorotea (Gutierrez) Sinclair of Elgin, to whom he was married for 52 years; a son, Merrill E. Sinclair, Jr. of Elgin; a daughter, Sonia (Jim) Arrott of Elgin; brother, Sydney Sinclair; two grandchildren, Brook Arrott and Tiffany Arrott, both of Elgin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will take place Friday, January 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Elgin with Rev. Miroslaw A. Reikowski celebrating the mass. Burial will be private. Visitation will take place Thursday, January 23 between 4-8 p.m. at the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel and after 9 a.m. on Friday until the mass at 11 a.m. Please omit flowers, with memorials in his name to Provena St. Joseph Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Francis B. Banbury
Francis B. Banbury, 80, Kennon, WI, formerly of West Chicago, IL, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at his home.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia at 1 PM Monday, January 23, 2006.

William C. Brown
William C. Brown, 72, of Knoxville, TN passed away at St. Mary's Residential Hospice on January 20, 2006. He was a member of St. John Newman Catholic Church in Farragut, TN. William and his wife, Jennifer, both were from Elgin, IL and moved to Knoxville in 1965. William retired from Johnson & Johnson Co. in 1994 after 30 years of service. He was an avid University of Tennessee supporter and enjoyed a getaway to the beach or warm sunshine by his pool.
preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marion Brown.
Survived by his loving family, wife, Jennifer L. Brown; son, Stephen (Demaris) Brown; daughter, Julie Brown; grandchildren, Analisa, Katelyn and Nicholas Brown. He also leaves extended family members, Nicholas, Marilyn and Norman Lea, James and Kathryn LaMorte, Tricia LaMorte-Bennet, James and Dawn LaMorte, Irene and Harris Williams, Douglas and Jean Lea, Sadie, Maggie, Otto and Camry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 23, 2006 at 7:30 PM in the chapel at Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike with Father John Dowling, officiating. Raymond L. Giddens Jr
Raymond L. Giddens Jr, 79, of Streamwood, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2006 in St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. He was born August 9, 1926 in Elgin and was the son of Raymond L. and Alfreda Giddens Sr.
He was a professional Photographer in Elgin for over 50 years, before retiring. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 57 of Elgin.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Margaret Logan Giddens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Dorothy Holbrook Green
Dorothy Holbrook Green, 74, of Ontario, OR died Thursday, January 19, 2006 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Ontario.
Dorothy was born on March 28, 1931 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Omar and Mabel Holbrook. She grew up in Sioux City where she attended East High School and Morningside College. She married Donald J. Green of Sioux City on August 17, 1950. While in Illinois, Dorothy worked in higher education. In her later years she worked as an insurance claims adjuster.
Dorothy loved playing bridge, quilting, volunteering as a receptionist at Holy Rosary Medical Center and Presbyterian Community Care Center. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends and visiting her family. She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Seniors Bridge Club, Order of the Eastern Star and Treasure Valley Civitans.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Ontario; two daughters, Karen (Dale) Mackall of Bakersfield, CA and Nancy (Ross) Werner of Elk River, MN; her grandchildren, Lance Mackall, Adam Mackall, Robert Mackall, Nick Werner and Allie Werner; a sister, Betty Lang; and a brother, Bob Holbrook both of Iowa.
Memorials may be made in Dorothy's behalf to Bethany Presbyterian Church, 1712 West Idaho Ave., Ontario, OR, 97914.

Donald F. Grimes "Don"
Donald F. Grimes, 81, of Cherry Valley, died on Thursday, January 19, 2006 in his home. Born October 22, 1924 in Cathay, ND, the son of Charles and Ethel (Davis) Grimes.
Married Norma Shales in 1949, they later divorced in 1984, and Don married Donna L. Oranger on January 1, 1988.
His family moved to Elgin where he attended the Elgin schools. At age 11, he lived on a farm in Clinton, WI, with the Mann family. He also lived at Larkin Home for two years, and at age 15, he stayed on the farm with the Helberg family. In 1942, he then moved to California to live with his mother and step-father, Clarence Dietz.
Don was drafted into the Navy on March 1943. He was an air craft mechanic aboard the Air Craft Carrier USS Wake Island. They were in three battles, the Battle of Lingalion Gulf (Luzon), Philippines, the Battle of Iwo Jima, and the Battle of Okinowa, where their ship was hit by suicide planes. He was honorably discharged on February 6, 1946 and received three Bronze Stars. Don then moved to Montana and worked on a 35,000 acre ranch. After moving back to Elgin, he became a cabinet maker for Rinehimer and eventually retired as a carpenter, with Walter Wetzel, after ten years.
Some of his hobbies included archery and fishing. He was one of three founders of the Cold Duck Snowmobile Club in Elgin and was still an honorary life member.
Survivors include wife, Donna; sons, Larry (Lori) Grimes of Elgin, IL, Jim (Jeannie) Grimes of California; step-daughter, Kimberly (Raymond) Lang of Cherry Valley, IL; grandchildren; Rachel, Morgan, Jim, Douglas, Jeff, and Elyse; step-grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Lang; four great-grandchildren; sister, Louise (Charles) Rapp of Aurora, IL; sister-in-law, Delores Grimes of Aurora, IL.
Predeceased by a sister, Marge Clark, and a brother LeRoy Grimes.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, with Janet Wold officiatijg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
