Paulette "Paula" ZeugnerPaulette "Paula" Zeugner, friend of many, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2001 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
A memorial service for Paula will be held this Saturday, January 5, at 4 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Elgin, 39W830 Highland Avenue, west of Elgin, west of Randall and off Coombs Road. An offering will be taken for the Crisis Center of Elgin. Single flowers may be donated to be placed near the scene of the accident.
Paula was 56, born March 10, 1945, and spent her childhood in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University at Teaneck, NJ. Upon marriage to Mr. Rizzo, they lived in Clarendon Hills, IL and elsewhere in the western Chicago suburbs. For many years she operated beauty salons. For seven years she served as a member of the Chicago Hair Fashion Committee, which conducted training classes around the state of Illinois for hair dressers. Later she was sent by a beauty product company abroad to conduct hairdressing training in South America, Australia, and elsewhere.
Paula had no children and separated from her husband around 1990, in which year she was offered an important position in RELIV, Incorporated's organization in the greater Chicago area, serving in this capacity until her death. She became an independent distributor of RELIV nutritional products as a way of helping others after using them herself, and turned her life around from a need to sleep most of the time to needing only four to five hours of sleep and losing more than 100 pounds.
Around 1990 she moved out of her home in Wayne to apartments in St. Charles. Beginning in 1996, Robert Jones, one of her new network distributors, commenced driving her to RELIV meetings and shopping places as a team partnership in their nutrition business.
Although she was a Roman Catholic, she was active in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Elgin in which Robert Jones is a member. She was active in the IOGT (International Organization of Good Templars) Geneva chapter, for abstainers from alcohol, even though she was not a member. Although not a full vegetarian, she was known for her tasty dishes at the vegetarian potlucks held in Barrington by the Heartland Vegetarians.
Since 1998 she had been employed at Boston Market restaurants, first in West Dundee and then in Mt. Prospect, ending most of her work day at the Schaumburg Barrington Road store. She was highly valued by Boston Market for expertise in marketing. Through the Mt. Prospect store she took a leading part in the "Make Room For Rob" campaign which finally raised $300,000 to buy young Rob Komosa of Arlington Heights, paralyzed in a football accident, another home, as needed for his care.
An unsigned greeting card found in Paula's home fits her well with these words: "Thoughtfulness is someone who thinks up nice things to do and then does them."
