Wayne H. Partch
Wayne H. Partch, age 84, of Sycamore, passed away Saturday evening, January 1, 2005 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb. Following his wife from life unto Life, Wayne was reunited with Virginia who had passed away one week earlier. Together once more, they are undoubtedly dancing again, almost sixty years since the first time, but now for the first time in heaven.
He was born on March 27, 1920, the son of Orville and Evelyn (Dunn) Partch in Kenosha, WI.
Wayne grew up in Rockford, IL where his family moved when he was only one. He attended local schools and graduated form Rockford Senior High School. Following graduation, Wayne worked as a shoe salesman for a time, as well as for Barber Colman factories. Wayne was married
early in life to Jean Horigan and shortly after his first son Gerald was born, his family was seperated by WW II. Wayne and Jean understood the possible consequences of being drafted and with heavy hearts divorced prior to shipping out to the U.S. Navy's boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval Station. Wayne served on the USS Warhawk which was a troop transport in the Pacific. Following a direct hit by a Kamikaze Boat he was hospitalized in Honolulu, and then sent to Manus Island to await another ship to take him back into battle at Lingayen Gulf.
Wayne returned to civilian life on January 1, 1946 and shortly was overcome with a woman named Virginia Eiler at a local dance. They would dance many times since, but would dance as man and wife following their marriage on August 30th, 1946 in Rockford. They began their new life together pursuing their passions for teaching. Wayne attended the University of Illinois extension at West High in Rockford in July of 1948. Two months later the family moved to the DeKalb area near Esmond where Virginia began teaching. Wayne graduated from NIU in 1951 and continued to achieve a Masters in Education in 1965.
Since Wayne and Virginia shared the same passion for teaching it was elementary that they would teach together as well. Virginia taught in Esmond for a time while Wayne finished his undergraduate work at NIU. It wasn't until the early 1950's that they really taught side by side in Plato Center where Wayne became the principal and sixth grade teacher, and Virginia taught fourth grade. Their rooms were connected by an adjoining door and they would substitute for each other during the day when they needed to teach a subject that wasn't their favorite. In 1965, Wayne achieved a Masters in Education and was employed as the principal at Thome Grade School in Rock Falls, IL. In 1983, Wayne and Virginia put down their schoolbooks and retired to Tipler, WI after building their dream home.
Wayne enjoyed woodworking in his basement and when the weather allowed, spending time in his flower beds. He also had a passion for golf that was only matched by his love for family and friends who would come to visit.
He now leaves his four children: Gerald (Kay) Partch of Key Largo, FL, Suzanne Diehl of Plainfield, IL, Judi (Rick) Neisendorf of Plato Center, IL and Greg (Shannon) Partch of Burlington, IL; Six grandchildren: Carolyn Partch Shipp and her children Cole and Shelby of TX; Andrea Neisendorf of Geneva, IL, Courtney Neisendorf and her daughter Raven Peterson, of Plato Center, IL, Megan Neisendorf also of Plato Center, Jessica and Michael Partch, both of Burlington, IL; One brother Allan (Jan) Partch of Loves Park, IL, One sister-in-law, Patricia (Dick) Camp of Chattanooga, TN; Many nieces and nephews and a family of friends.
He now joins his wife Virginia; His parents; Two brothers, Ray and George Partch, and one sister Lydia who preceded him in death.
A memorial service to celebrate Wayne and Virginia's life will be held on January 8, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Plato Cornerstone Methodist Church, 41W170 Russell Rd., Plato Center, IL, Rev. Paul Meyer, pastor of the church will officiate. Private family interment will follow at a later date.
