Jim Waterman
Jim Waterman, 55, formerly of Elgin, died Monday evening December 2, 2002 at the V.A. Hospital in Marion, IL. He had a brief struggle with cancer.
Jim was born May 3, 1947 in Elgin to Frank and Martha (Puckett) Waterman.
He was a resident of Elgin most of his life, graduating in 1966 from Elgin High School. He served in the Army in 1967-69 doing his tour of duty in Germany.
Jim moved to Harrisburg ten years ago, where he attended Southeastern University and worked for the Park District.
Among many lifelong friends, Jim leaves behind his stepfather & mother, Martha and Bill Sult, a daughter, Amy Awe, formerly of Burlington, sisters Phyllis (Jim) Gaertner, Marilyn (Guy) Carlson, nancy (Gary) DeMotto, brothers William and Danial Sutt, one brother-in-law, Lowell Follman of Wisconsin Dells, nieces and nephews: Hank Follman, Rhettley Follman, Rachel (Bill) Witmer, Tamorah (Erik) Borman, Layton DeMotto, Dirk and Damon Carlson, Denise (Rob) Lynn, Sierrea, Baily, and Danny Sutt and 4 great nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Frank Waterman.
Jim loved life and lived it to the fullest each day, there will be a celebration in his honor at 705 Diane Ave. in Elgin on December 13 from 5-8 p.m. Graveside services will be in Mound National cemetery on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at 11 a.m. There will be no visitation. Contributions may be made to the family to establish a memorial in his name.
Mildred Willison
Mildred Willison, 79, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, December 3 at Asta Care Center in Elgin.
Mrs. Willison was born November 3, 1923 in County Kerri, Ireland, the daughter of William and Elizabeth O'Neal Morphy.
She is survived by her children, Hedy (Ervin) Schamel of FL, Tim (Jody) O'Day of Elgin, Daniel O'Day of Chicago, Kathline O'Day of IL, Marshal (Lisa) O'Day of CA, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Quentin O'Day in 1976 and her second husband, Adolph Willison in 1990.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 9, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Interment will be private at Memory Gardens cemetery in Arlington Heights.

Ruby W. Getty
Ruby W. Getty, 86, of Marengo, died Saturday morning, December 6, 2003 in her home. She was born on January 6, 1917 in Harmony, IL to Walter and Anna Ackman Davis.
On June 24, 1944 in Harmony, IL she married
Joseph P. Getty. Ruby was a graduate of Marengo High School and Northern Illinois University. For many years she was a grade school teacher for Hampshire and Riley School Districts. She was a life member of St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Riley Homemakers, the Marengo Women's Club, the Marengo United Methodist Church and its Esther Circle.
Survivors include: her daughter JoAnn (James) Zenk of Marengo, two grandchildren: Matthew Zenk of Marengo and Julie (David) Eisner of Rockford, two great grandchildren: Devon and Rayna Eisner. A sister-in-law Margaret (Robert) Lapworth of Hemet, CA, one niece and six nephews. Dear friends: Sandra Schultz, Gaye Anderson and Marcia Simons.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Joe in 1999.
A Celebration of Life service will be 12 (noon) Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Marengo United Methodist Church, 119 E. Washington St., Marengo, IL 60152. Pastor Steven Bullmer celebrant. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service in the church. Interment will be in Marengo City cemetery.

Bernice Olsen Leep
Bernice Olsen Leep, 79, of West Dundee passed from this life on Friday, December 5, 2003 surrounded by the loving arms of her family into those of Jesus after a short illness.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 8, 1924, the daughter of Albert W. and Edith B. (nee Hardesty) Olsen.
Mrs. Leep grew up and lived in Louisville, Kentucky for most of her life. She attended the University of Louisville and was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. After she received her AB Degree in Home Economics from the University of Louisville, she traveled with her husband to various cities as locations of his employment changed. While living in New York, she was accepted into membership in the Collegiate Chorale, Robert Shaw's resident New York Chorus. While living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she established herself as a soloist with the Skylight Opera Co. where she sang leading roles in Mozart and Menotti Operas. She was a member of the Chicago Symphony Chorus for two years where she sang under the direction of Margaret Hillis, a friend she knew from their association with Robert Shaw. She was a soloist for 12 years for the Second Church of Christ Scientist in Evanston. While living in Buffalo Grove, she obtained a Secondary School Teaching Certificate and a Realtors License. She substitute taught in School Districts #211 and #214 for many years. As a Realtor, she was Co-Chairperson of the Associates Committee in the Northwest Suburban Board and MAP. She was Chairperson of the Equal Opportunity Committee, Realtor of the Year, President and Illinois Governor of the Women's Council of Realtors and was awarded membership in Omega Tau Rho an honorary Real Estate Fraternity. During her time living in the Dundee and Elgin areas, she was a member for 14 years of the Elgin Chorale Union. She was an active participant in the Northern Fox Valley Habitat For Humanity. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Barrington.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gus W. Leep. They married
on November 10, 1945; their children, Jeffrey A. Leep of Reno, Nevada and Susan J. Leep of La Quinta, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Family and friends will meet for funeral services on Tuesday at 11 AM in the Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Binker Road, Barrington, Illinois with the Rev. Janice Niemeier and Rev. Daniel Spike co-officiating. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Tuesday in church from 10 AM until time of services.

Francisco I. Mangahas, MD
Francisco I. Mangahas, MD, 67, of Elgin passed away Saturday, December 6, 2003 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born September 17, 1936 and was the son of Cledo and Maria Mangahas. Francisco had worked as a physician at the Elgin Mental Health Center for 23 years prior to his retirement in 2000. Member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church of Elgin and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Leda Marie, his children, Mary Antoinette, Emmanuel Andre', Jennifer Lynn, Frances Danielle, and Stephanie Marie, his granddaughter, Isabela Maria, his sisters, Aurora, Carmen and Martina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jose'.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Geoffrey Wirth officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 7, and Tuesday, December 9, 2003 from 4-9 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Family and friends will meet at the church on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 from 9 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial Masses would be appreciated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin.
Basil E. "Doc" Ping
Basil E. "Doc" Ping, 81, a Bartlett resident for 60 years, died Thursday, December 4, 2003 in Elgin. He was born October 5, 1922 in Newton, IL.
Mr. Ping was the former owner of The Eck Tavern in Bartlett. He was retired from U-46 school district maintenance and was a 50-year member of the Moose and a VFW member.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Jane (nee Humbracht); his daughters, Jean Ping of St. Charles and Sandra (Charles) Smith of Hampshire; grandchildren, Cheryl (Michael) Warmus and Scott (Catherine) Smith; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Delaney Warmus, Jake and Cara Smith; his sister, Lucille Coplan of Tampa, FL; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Brooks and Bobbie Ping.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 950 S. Bartlett Rd. (at Stearns), Bartlett. Burial will follow at Lakewood cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 7, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Immanuel United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 415 W. Naomi Bueche
Naomi Bueche, 97, of Elgin passed away Saturday, December 4, 2004 in her home. She was born November 13, 1907 in Burlington, IL and was the daughter of Samuel and Lorena Davis Blank. She had been a resident of Elgin most of her life.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elgin.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosalyn (Herbert) Davenport of Elgin and Ruth Ann (John) Streit of Elgin; two sons, Ronald (Dorothy) Goff of Elgin and Raymond (Donna) Goff of Bangor, Maine; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, June (Arnold) Huske of Elgin, Joyce (John) Ross of Elgin, Doris Richardson of Elgin, Marjorie (Ora) Thomas of Goreville, IL; two brothers, Lloyd Blank of Elgin and Donald Blank of Algonquin, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Bueche; two brothers, Norton Blank and Lennon Blank; one sister, Ruth Paulin.
Memorial services will be held Friday in the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Peter Boeve officiating. Private burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church.
Yvonne L. Corda
Yvonne L. Corda, 67, of South Elgin went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 4, 2004 in Sherman Hospital. She was born September 26, 1937 in Chicago and was the daughter of Ernest and Ingaborg Carlson. She loved her Lord, family, home and was a good Steward of all she was given.
Surviving are husband, Victor "Vic" Carlson; two sons, Victor (Misty) Corda of Galena, Missouri and Jeffrey (Jacqueline) Corda of Kingston, IL; four daughters, Terri (Mark) Dodge of South Elgin, Susan (Robert) Freeland of DeKalb, IL; Caryn (Andrew) Veinuzis of Clarkston, Michigan and Sarah (Bryan) Katzel of South Elgin, IL; nine grandchildren, Kelli, Natasha, Ashley, Christina, Linzey, Tony, Robbi, Victor and Justin; two sisters, Alice (Harold) Jetter of Payson, Arizona and Dorothy (Harold) Pond of Fortuna, California; her pets, Jessie and Winkey.
Preceded by parents and one son, Michael Corda.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Paul Maughan officiating. Burial will be in South Elgin cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Gene A. Dwyer
Our beloved husband and father, Gene A. Dwyer, born November 21, 1919, died December 4, 2004. The son of Frank and Nellie (Harrison) Dwyer, he was a lifelong resident of Elgin. A man of many talents, Gene was an accomplished musician who performed with some of the most famous bands of the late 1930's and early 1940's. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater.
He married
Jane Elizabeth Martin of Chicago on September 20, 1947. During their 57 years of marriage they lovingly raised seven children, Jane (Bryant) Liggett, Gene (Becky) Dwyer, Marianne (Terry) Jeffrey, Harry (Sue) Dwyer, Eileen Dwyer, Richard (Rhonda) Dwyer and Andrea (Scott) Pospisil. He was the proud grandfather of 23 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Following his retirement in 1997, Gene and Jane have resided most of the year at their family home in Magnolia Springs, AL.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at St. James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington St., West Dundee at 5:30 p.m. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
LeRoy Falk
LeRoy Falk was born November 2, 1919 in Galesburg, Illinois and moved with his family to Chicago. Before WWII, he joined the CCC's and served at Kettle Falls, Washington. He served in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific. On December 31, 1950 he joined in marriage with Betty Alice Lamb. They lived in Chicago for five years and moved to Carpentersville, IL where he resided for nearly 50 years. Mr. Falk was employed by Time Inc for more than 30 years. Betty passed away in 1977 and in 1979, he married
Mary Phyllis Chorley.
She preceded him in death in 1999 and afterward he moved to Marysville, Washington to be close to family. A daughter, Kimberly Fulgham, also preceded him in death in 1993.
Mr. Falk leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mary Falk of Marysville; a son, Steve Falk of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren, Ethan, Jennifer, Justine, Dylan, David, Derek and Megan; and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Elita Krause and Joan Briscoe, both of Illinois; and 12 nieces and nephews.
At his request there will be no formal services, he will be laid to rest with his wife, Betty at Dundee cemetery.
Mary M. Miller
Mary M. Miller, 75, of Carpentersville, died Sunday, December 5, 2004 at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. She was born in Little Rock, AR on November 29, 1929. She was the daughter of Kurt and Gertrude Murry.
Mary was a 48 year resident to the Carpentersville area and a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Dundee.
She is survived by her four children, Matthew (Terri) Miller of Chicago, Faith (Joe) McGehee of Huntley, Peter (Carrie) Miller of Crystal Lake and Mary (Charles) Lipinski of Texas; her four grandchildren, Alexandria Miller, Matthew Miller, Jr., Daryl and Joe McGehee; and a sister, Frances Bridges of North Little Rock, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles Miller.
Family and friends will meet for funeral services on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of East Dundee. The Rev. William P. Yonker, Senior Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery in East Dundee. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home West Dundee and on Thursday in church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
