Mildred Widder
Mildred Widder, 87, of Elgin died Sunday, December 5, 2004 in Manor Care in Elgin. She was born September 5, 1917 in Fairmont, Minnesota and was the daughter of Herman and JoHannah Hagen. She had been a resident of Elgin and Dundee area most of her life.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Dundee, a member of the 50 Plus Club of Dundee, a member of the Senior Center of Dundee, and a member of the Eagles Club Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are two daughters, Peggy (Ronald) Geske of Woodland Park, Colorado and Nancy (David) Gathman of Elgin; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Geske, Michelle Payne, Jeffrey (Angie) Gathman, and Scott (Michelle) Gathman; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Caroline Breick of Great Falls, Montana; one brother, Harold (Arellia) Hagen of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray, in 1989; two sisters, Beatrice Brewick and Lucille Pollitt; two brothers, Arnold Hagen and Garhardt Hagen.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin with Rev. Frank Hewitt officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dundee or to the Alzheimers Foundation.

Wilma R. Ackman (Fritz)
Wilma R. Ackman (Fritz), 81, of Elgin, Illinois died Saturday, January 5, 2002 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
She was born October 6, 1920 in Belleville, Illinois to William and Emma (nee Schermeier) Emery.
She had been a resident of Elgin for over 50 years and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Elgin.
She is survived by her two sons, David (Cindy) Fritz and Timothy Fritz all of Elgin, Illinois; and her grandson, Aaron Fritz of Metropolis, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband in 1970, Raymond Fritz, whom she married in 1946; and her second husband in 1987, Wayne Ackman, whom she married in 1973.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Elgin with the Reverend Herman Christiansen officiating. Burial will follow services at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 7, 2002 from 3 to 8 PM at Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Funeral Chapel and at the church on Tuesday from 9 AM until the time of Service.
The family has requested memorial tributes be made in Wilma's name to St. John's Lutheran Church, Elgin.

Agnes Bauer
Agnes Bauer, 92 of Elgin, died Wednesday, January 2 at Vencor Hospital in Northlake.
She was born December 12, 1909 in Chicago and was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Lerner. Member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin. Member of Provena St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary for the past 25 years. Active with activities at Willow Lake Estates in Elgin.
Surviving are a son, Robert (Donna) Bauer of Hinsdale, IL; two grandchildren, Kenneth (Jenae) Bauer and Matthew Bauer; three great grandchildren; a sister, Pauline (George) Doyle of Midlothian, IL.
Preceded by parents; her husband, Frank in 1981; a sister, Genieve; a brother, Claude Lerner.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Laird Funeral Home to St. Thomas More Catholic Church for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Private burial will be in St. Mary cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Masses would be appreciated or memorials may be given to Provena St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary.

Kemp C. Hughes
Kemp C. Hughes, age 66, of South Elgin, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2002 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born April 13, 1935 in Scott County, Virginia, the son of Charlie and Sara Tate Hughes. He had been a resident of South Elgin since 1972. He had been employed by the Marison Co. in South Elgin for 18 years and then H.A. Phillips Manufacturing in St. Charles for nine years before retiring.
He enjoyed fishing and working on cars.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Hammond Hughes, whom he married on October 12, 1957; three daughters, Debbie (David) Day of South Elgin, Kim Pizano of South Elgin and Mickey (Dan) Zopfi of Elgin; five grandchildren, Christina, Justin, Angela, Jordan and Travis; a great-grandson, Jeremy; a sister, Kathleen Tate of Kingsport, TN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 7, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with Rev. Bill Morris officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. in the funeral home.

Roland A. "Kelly" Kelahan
Roland A. "Kelly" Kelahan, 75, of Elgin passed away Saturday, December 29, 2001 in his home after an extended illness.
He was born June 10, 1926 in Elgin, the son of Albert and Mary Dillon Kelahan.
He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life. He was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1944. He was an Elgin Policeman for 36 years and attained the rank of Lieutenant before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post 57, VFW Post 1307, Elks Lodge 737 all of Elgin, the Illinois Police Association and the Police Benevolent Association of Illinois.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; and six brothers.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2002 at 2 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in Algonquin cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 1 PM until the time of Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Elgin Police Benevolent Fund.

M. Jean Schairer
M. Jean Schairer, 87, of Burlington, passed away Friday, January 4, 2002 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
She was born August 28, 1914 in Mayfield Township, IL, the daughter of Walter and Lucretia (Thompson) Lieving.
She was a 1931 graduate of Burlington High School and married her high school sweetheart, Louis E. Schairer on June 6. 1933 in Geneva. They farmed in the Burlington area and Jean was a longtime employee of the Joseph Spiess Co. in Elgin where she worked in the fabric department. Mrs. Schairer was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, a former Burlington Village Trustee, former secretary for the Burlington-Hampshire Senior Citizens, and former Chairman of the Burlington Alumni Association.
Surviving are her children, Louis (Sherry) Schairer of Fox River Grove, Kay (Roger) Jacobson of Sycamore, Wink (Sandra) Schairer of El Paso, IL and Julie (Philip) Snave of Crystal Lake; a son-in-law, James Anderson of Briggsville, WI; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis on May 20, 1966; a brother, Erman Lieving; and sisters, Jo Tisler, Margaret Butts and Gail Lieving.
Private family Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 8, at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St. in Hampshire. Burial will be in the Burlington Union cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Burlington United Methodist Church.

Amelia R. Stettner
Amelia R. Stettner, age 100, of Shabbona, formerly of of Elburn, passed away quietly into the night Friday, January 4, 2002 at Shabbona Health Care Center where she has made her home the past several years.
She was born January 9, 1901, the daughter of Jacob and Wilhemina (Speiss) Stettner in Elgin, IL.
Amelia grew up in Elgin and attended local schools, until her family moved to Hanclock, MN when she was ten years old. When her mother began to take ill, Amelia took care of her every need. Following their mother's death in 1929, the family moved back to Elgin the following year. With her mother gone, Amelia became the "live-in" mother to several nieces and nephews. Though she never married , her maternal love for children grew with every child she cared for and became the favorite Aunt "Meal" to everyone. In 1943, she moved to Elburn to make her home with her sister Marion and to help raise their two children Larry and Nancy. Amelia became the unofficial nanny to many children in the neighborhood, was a wonderful housekeeper and friend to all who graced her doorstep.
She leaves now her sister Esther Leverenz of Elgin, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Released from pain into peace, she joins now her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call from 10-11 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2002 at Conley Funeral Home, 116 W. Pierce St. Elburn, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Rev. Katherine Lawes, pastor of the Community Congregational Church, Elburn will officiate and interment will follow at Blackberry cemetery, Elburn.
Memorials may be made in her name and mailed to P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.

Bernice Chamberlain
Bernice Chamberlain, 92, of Elgin, passed away January 4, 2004 in the Apostolic Christian Resthaven. She was born October 8, 1912 in Plato Center, IL and was the daughter of William and Bertha (Engelbrecht) Waterman.
Bernice was a lifelong resident of Elgin, and retired from the Elgin National Watch Factory. She also worked at York Spring Co.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin.
Survivors include her stepdaughter, Lois (Gene) Westerman of South Elgin, IL; seven step-grandchildren, Candace (Bruce) Minus, Craig (Mary) Chamberlain, Shelley Grafmyer, Diane Biehl, Steve (Cindy) Westerman, Doug (Dawn) Westerman and Kathy (Keith) Collins; thirteen step-great-grandchildren; nieces, Carol Lawyer of Dundee, IL, Karen (Tim) Freund of Chillicothe, IL, and Karla (Alan) Van Dyke of Oregon, IL; her step-daughter-in-law, Jo Chamberlain.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Raymond Scheilble; her second husband, Eddie Chamberlain; her brother, Wilbur Waterman; three sisters, Helen Eches, Selma Watermann, and Dorothy Schult; one niece, Sandra Rojalski; one stepson, Donald Chamberlain.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Private burial will be in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin, with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Elgin.

Margaret C. Clute
Margaret C. Clute, 77, of Elgin passed away Sunday, January 4, 2004 in Oak Crest Residence in Elgin.
She was born March 4, 1926 in Elgin, the daughter of Herbert and Marie Damisch.
Resident of Elgin all her life. She was a Registered Nurse and had been employed by Provena St. Joseph Hospital for 17 years before retiring. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and a Charter Member of JG Chapter of P.E.O. of Elgin.
Surviving are a daughter, Candace (Jerry) Nering of Punta Gorda, Florida; two sons, David (Christine) Clute of Bailey, Colorado and Richard Clute of Elgin; and two grandsons, Daniel and Patrick Clute.
preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 1999; and a brother, William Damisch.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 10 at 1 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin with Rev. Joseph Snider officiating. Private burial will be in Washington Reformed Presbyterian cemetery on Highland Ave. Rd. in Elgin.
Visitation will be at the time of Memorial Service only.
The omission of flowers is requested and memorials may be given to Oak Crest Residence, 204 S. State St., Elgin, IL, 60123.
