Richard "Dick" Gromer
Richard "Dick" Gromer, 85, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2006, in his home. He was born October 21, 1920, in Elgin and was the son of Harold and Frances Gromer.
He had been a resident of Elgin all his life and had owned Gromer Super Market Inc. in Elgin before retiring. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served as a Lieutenant with the U.S. Financial Corps. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, member of the Elgin Country Club, member of Elgin Lodge No. 117 A.F. & A.M., member and past President of the Elgin Shrine Club, member of American Legion Post No. 57 of Elgin, very active in the Grocery Industry one of the first members of the Illinois State Lottery Board and a former member of Elgin Financial Savings Bank.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Mattke Gromer; three daughters, Cheryl (John) Landeck of Maple Park, IL, Linda Gromer of River Falls, WI and Cindy (Al) Pondel of Crystal Lake, IL; two sons, Gordon (Hope) Gromer of South Elgin and Doug Gromer of Chicago; eight grandchildren, Alison Landeck, John R. (Elizabeth) Landeck, Justin Landeck, John and Amie Gromer and Greg, Heather and Dan Pondel; one great-grandson, Wyatt Landeck and one sister, Lucille McCornack of Huntley, IL.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in the Laird Funeral Home with Rev. Mona Walker officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery.
Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church.
Clara D. Jones
Clara D. Jones, 91, formerly of Hampshire and Bingham, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village.
She was born August 15, 1914 in Veedum, Wisconsin, the daughter of Nelson and Maude (Graf) Daniels. Clara was raised in the New Lebanon area, where her father operated the grain elevator and local blacksmith shop. Clara married
and raised her family on the farm in Bingham. She also was a caregiver in her home for many children spending summers on the farm. She eventually moved to the Keeneyville area to be near her son and volunteered with the Schuamburg Senior Citizens. Mrs. Jones was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Hampshire.
Surviving are her son, George (Patricia) Jones of Keeneyville; daughters, Margaret (Albert) Hoste of Linn, MO and Stella Bleigh of Fairfield, CA; ten grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Vivian Daniels of Hampshire; a sister, Mildred (Ed) Schramm of Elgin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jeanette and Loretta Daniels; and a brother, Everette Daniels.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Monday, January 16, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, 207 Grove Ave., Hampshire, with the Rev. Marie Carlson officiating. Burial will be in the Hampshire Center cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire and also on Monday at the church, prior to services from 9-10 AM. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the First United Methodist Church.

Clarence E. Koch "Bud"
Clarence E. Koch, age 88, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Streamwood, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2006. He was born November 13, 1917 in Merrillville, Indiana.
Formerly a Parish member of St. Peter Damien Church in Bartlett and previously a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Streamwood.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marvel Frances.
Survived by his second wife, Carrie (Scalfaro); brother, George; sisters, Gerry, Beatrice and Adaline, all of Indiana; sons, David, Robert and James Sr; and daughter, Patricia; grandchildren, James Jr., Dawn, Kristine, Jason, Stephanie and Tyler; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Marisa, Alexis and Thomas; and step-sons, Robert and William Scalfaro, of Las Vegas, NV.
Services will be held at St. Peter Damien Church, 309 E. North Ave., Bartlett, Illinois on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 from 6:30-7:00 PM. Mass will be said at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter Damien Church.
Kathryn M. Rudin
Kathryn M. Rudin of Elgin, IL, died Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 6, 1923, at LaCross, IN, the daughter of Carl and Mary Weiss.
She married
Harlan Rudin on July 29, 1951. He died December 12, 1979. She and her husband were lifelong farmers in the Ashkum and Clifton, IL area since 1951. She was a member of the Cissna Park Apostolic Christian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Judy) Rudin of Clifton, IL and Martin (Debbie) Rudin of Peoria, IL; three daughters, Barbara Schifferer of Elgin, IL, Marlene Light of Minneapolis, MN and Jeannine (Larry) Mariani of Bloomington, IL; two sisters, Lucille (Freeman, deceased) Kellenberger of Sabetha, KS and Pat (Howard) Schifferer of Elgin, IL; five brothers, Calvin (Dena) Weiss of Sabetha, KS, Robert (Eleanor) Weiss of Dundee, IL, Paul (Joyce, deceased) Weiss of Elgin, IL, Ted (Gerry, deceased) Weiss of Valparaiso, IN and Morey (Donna) Weiss of Hartford, VT; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 13, 2006, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton, IL and from 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 14, 2006, until the 11:30 A.M. services at the Apostolic Christian Church in Cissna Park, IL. Ministers of the church will officiate.
Burial will be in the Church cemetery at Cissna Park, IL.

Kenneth W. Schoeneberg
Kenneth W. Schoeneberg, age 84, of Willow Lakes Estates, Elgin died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at the Provena-St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. He was born on November 5, 1921 in Saint Louis, Missouri.
He was the son of Rudolph and Anna (nee Olde) Schoeneberg. Mr. Schoeneberg was a resident of the Elgin area for the past 23 years. He was a graduate of The University of Missouri, Rolla in 1944. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the United States Army during W.W.II and earned the rank of Captain. Following his time in the United States Army, he returned to the University of Missouri, Rolla and earned a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering in 1948.
He was a member of the J.A. Mayfield Lodge #165 A.F. and A.M. and the Amory Lodge #122 A.F. and A.M. He also was a member of the Yusef Khan Shrine of Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret C. (nee Linville) who he married
on February 7th. Their daughters, Pamela (Edwin) Kelley of DeKalb and Debra (Laurence) Gonzales of Evanston; two granddaughters, Kristina (Chuck) Osborn of Port Orchard, WA and Erica Kelley of DeKalb; and a great-grandson, Riley Osborn. Mr. Schoeneberg is also survived by a cousin, Robert Olde of Houston, TX.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee. Carol L. Thiemann
Carol L. Thiemann, 71, of South Elgin, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 5, 1934 in Elgin and was the daughter of Edward and Esther Struckman. Carol was a homemaker, and later worked in the food service department for school district U-46.
She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Elgin, serving on the Altar Guild and Cradle Roll.
Survivors include her husband, Donald, to whom she married
on September 29, 1957; two daughters, Diane (Pat) Neal of Bloomingdale, IL and Joyce (Hal) Toenjes of Green Bay, WI; three grandchildren, Nathan, Rachel and Ben.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Melvin Struckman.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1111 Van St., with Rev. Roger Pollock officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8:00 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, and on Saturday in the church from 10:30 AM until the time of services.

Walter Colsten
Walter Colsten, 89, of Elgin passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2005 in Sherman West Court, Elgin. He was born on June 9, 1915 in Chicago, IL and was the son of Walter and Edna Colsten. Walter was a Veteran , and had served in the US Army during W.W. II. He had worked for Western Electric for many years prior to his retirement.
He is a member of Grace Evangelical Church of Elgin.
Survived by his wife, Frances (Altepeter) of Elgin; three children, Carol (Frank) Kampy of Algonquin, IL, Clifford Colsten of AZ, and Cynthia (Rick) Burks of NY; his step-children, Helen Landrum of East Moline, IL, Ruth (John) Kenyon of MO, Linda (Jim) Tarmichael of North Aurora, IL, Vicki (Larry) Foley of St. Charles, IL, Anita (Jim) Lewis of Aurora, IL, Janet Stark of Elgin, IL, Marilyn Schlichting of Westmont, IL; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert Colsten of Chicago, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marie Colsten in 1968; his second wife, Helen in 1991; his brother, Russell Colsten.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Pastor David Bohyer officiating. Burial will follow in Bluff City cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Sherman Hospital Cardiac Care Center, Elgin.
Dale A. Isaacs, Sr.
Dale A. Isaacs, Sr., 86, formerly of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2005 in Sherman West Court, Elgin. He was born November 11, 1918 in Burlingame, Kansas, the son of William and Jennie Isaacs. He married
Ruth E. Pence in 1941.
Dale was a Child Psychologist with Rockford Public Schools before retiring. He was a graduate of Washburn University of Topeka, Kansas and received his Masters degree from the University of Colorado and Doctorate degree from the University of Kansas. He was a Veteran, having served in the Navy during World War II. He was an avid runner in his later years and placed in the first Chicago Marathon and also placed in the Boston Marathon in 1979. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rockford. Rockford school children may remember him as Mr. Magic, Freddie Frog or Snoopy in the 1970's and early '80's.
Survivors include his daughter, Darcy (Bob) Dougherty of Elgin; his son, Dale (JoAnn) Isaacs Jr. of Sherman, IL; three grandsons, Brian, Todd, and Brad Isaacs; a sister, Fern McFarlane of Wichita, KS; a great-grandson, Matthew A. Isaacs; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Hamilton Isaacs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, on December 6, 1997; four brothers, Lloyd, Jack, Leal, and William Isaacs; a brother-in-law, Robert McFarlane.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. in the Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, Midtown Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS with burial to follow in Memorial Park cemetery. Jeannette O. Fisher Johnson
Jeannette O. Fisher Johnson, age 75, of Lake Zurich, formerly of Harvard and Elgin, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Lexington Health Care in Lake Zurich. She was born May 17, 1929 in Harvard, IL, the daughter of Ralph M. and Anna E. (Orr) Thompson.
She was a legal secretary for 45 years working for McCauley & Weir in Harvard, George Carbury in Elgin and Boyd Gates in Dundee. Jeannette was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a 32-year member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #57 in Elgin, and board member of Jerome cemetery. She was also past president and secretary for the Willow Lakes Estates Homeowner's Association in Elgin. She was a graduate of Harvard High School and was the 2nd Harvard Milk Day Queen in 1946. She was also the caregiver for Joan Seidel of Elgin for many years.
Survivors include a son, Steven (Jill) Fisher of Huntley; a granddaughter, Lauren A. (fiance Adam Elzinga) Fisher of Florence, SC; her twin sister, Jean (Arnold) Witt of Crystal Lake; a niece, Karen (Robert) Swigart of Crystal Lake; former husband, Richard Fisher of New Libson, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her second husband, Howard Johnson.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL, with Rev. David Carlovsky officiating. Charles E. Reuter
Charles E. Reuter, 69, of South Beloit, IL and Palatka, FL formerly of Elgin passed away Tuesday, January 11 at his home in Florida. H was born May 18, 1935 in Elgin the son of Charles and Frances Kane Reuter. He was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1953. He had been a resident of Elgin for most of his life before moving to South Beloit in 2000. He was employed as a cement finisher for many years before retiring. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marines in Korea.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Broecker Reuter whom he married
on September 18, 1992; three daughters, Mary Lou Reuter of Elgin, Tammy (Tony) Zamudio of Elgin, Beth (Bill) Bowens of Elgin; three sons, Jeffrey (Bobbie) Reuter of Davis, IL, Tim (Cindi) Reuter of Florence, SC, Andy (Dawn) Reuter of Elgin; one step-daughter, Debra (Robert) Chin of Algonquin; one step-son, Wallace (Karen) Williams of Palatka, FL; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Gilbert) Welch of Mission, Texas, Betty (Murray) Smidt of Martinsville, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary Jane Reuter on March 12, 1989; one sister, Marge Aviles; one brother, Gerald Reuter, Sr.; two nephews, Mike Welch and Gerald Reuter, Jr.

Victoria L. Harris, 34, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 in her home. She was born May 25, 1971 in Great Lakes, IL. and was the daughter of Michael and Patricia Harris. She had been a resident of Elgin most of her life.
Surviving is one daughter, Shelby Harris of Elgin, one son, Jack Harris of Elgin. A special friend, Jim Ferenzi of Elgin, her mother, Patricia Harris of Elgin, two brothers, Michael and Thomas Harris. Her maternal grandmother, Roberta Perkins of Elgin, several nieces and nephews.
Preceded by her father, maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 P.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in South Elgin cemetery. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until time of services.
