Dr. William F. Harrison
Dr. William F. Harrison passed away Sunday, January 8, 2006 in Sun City Center, FL. He was born January 30, 1926 in Dresdon, Ontario, Canada.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jeanette and resided in Sun City Center, Florida for the past 1 1/2 years. He practiced optometry in Elgin, IL. for 33 years. Bill received his Horological Degree from Bradley University in Peoria, IL in 1956. He received his Optometric Degree in 1963 from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago and also was granted the Faculty Memorial Award. He was a member of the Fox Valley Optometric Association and a past president of that organization. He was a member of the Sherman Hospital SHIM Association, the Elgin Historical Society, The Elgin Kiwanis Club and the First Baptist Church in Elgin.

Flossie M. Roach
Flossie M. Roach, 87, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Manor Care Health Services in Elgin. She was born August 8, 1918 in Jasper Co., IL, and was the daughter of Ezra and Nora Mahaney. She was employed as a food service worker for many years in Elgin at St. Edward High School, Larkin High School and Oak Crest Residence.
Member of St. Laurence Catholic Church.
Surviving are four sons, John (Hideko) Belcher of Elgin, Billy (Sharon) Belcher of Tucson, AZ, Harry James (Terri) Belcher of Dundee, IL and Norman (Debbie) Roach of Hayward, Wisconsin; two daughters, Joy Norine Roberts of Kodiak, Alaska and Mary Martensen of Kodiak, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded by her first husband, John E. Belcher; her second husband, Charles F. Roach; three sisters; and two brothers.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 AM in Mt. Hope cemetery with Fr. Joseph Kulak officiating. There will be no visitation. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, is in charge of services.
Arthur Louis Hann
Arthur Louis Hann, 83, of Willow Lake Estates, Elgin died Friday, January 13, 2006 at the Governor's Park Rehabilitation Center in Barrington. He was born in Chicago on February 5, 1922. He was the son of Walter and Helen (nee Schnake) Hann. Mr. Hann was a resident of the Elgin area for the past six years.
He was a 1944 graduate of Concordia Teacher's College (University) in River Forest where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. He also earned a Master's Degree in Education from Northwestern University, Evanston in 1953. Mr. Hann was called a teacher for 37 years and Minister of Music for 55 years with the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. During his time in education, he served as an Elementary School Teacher for 26 years with St. John's Lutheran Church and School in Lombard and five years at St. Peter in North Judson, IN as Principal, Timothy, Chicago for four years. He retired from St. Paul, Oak Lawn in 1981.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy (nee Herzog). They married
on June 18, 1960. Mr. Hann is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, grand and great and many many good and faithful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter; and a sister, Edna Thiel.
Family and friends will meet for funeral services on Monday at 10:30 AM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 401 W. Main St. in West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Concordia cemetery, Forest Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 7 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Monday in church from 9 AM until time of services. Please omit flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
Victoria L. Harris
Victoria L. Harris, 34, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 in her home. She was born May 25, 1971 in Great Lakes, IL. and was the daughter of Michael and Patricia Harris. She had been a resident of Elgin most of her life.
Surviving is one daughter, Shelby Harris of Elgin, one son, Jack Harris of Elgin. A special friend, Jim Ferenzi of Elgin, her mother, Patricia Harris of Elgin, two brothers, Michael and Thomas Harris. Her maternal grandmother, Roberta Perkins of Elgin, several nieces and nephews.
Preceded by her father, maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 P.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private in South Elgin cemetery. Visitation will be in the Laird Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until time of services.
Vera L. Jeannotte
Vera L. Jeannotte, age 86, of Elgin, died Friday, January 13, 2006 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born in Reedsburg, WI, the daughter of Clifford and Lilvie Stombaugh. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia (Frank) Almaguer and Karen Ponce, both of Elgin; a sister, Lucille Bricki of Michigan; four grandchildren, Trina Haugh, Rene Almaguer, Sondra Krahel and Diana Mize; 11 great-grandchildren, Michael Amanda, Megan, Matthew, Blair, Joshua, Kevin, Trevor, Arreal, Amber and Nico to whom she was dedicated and devoted.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 17 until the time of service at 3:00 PM at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, Elgin.
Burial will be private.
Ruth E. Broom Olwin
Ruth E. Broom Olwin, 86, of Elgin passed away Friday, January 13, 2006 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital. She was born October 27, 1919 in Huntington County, IN and was the daughter of Earl and Pearl Cocklin. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1998.
Surviving are her husband, Roy Olwin of Elgin; two sons, Larry E. Broom of Huntington, IN and David Ivan Broom of Andrews, IN; 10 daughters, Ladona First of Allegany, NY, Elaine Broom of Huntington, IN, Joann (Willard) Brown of Locust Grove, VA, Patricia (James) Manning of Warren, IN, Lois Leist of Huntington, IN, Gwen (Elmer) Moeller of Elgin, IL, Carolyn Jenson of Excelsior, MD, Nancy Mead of Sacramento, CA, Laura (Harold) Heinberg of Marengo, IL and Phoebe Hayes of Sycamore, IL; a sister, Bonnie McAfee of Bluffton, IN; a brother, Richard McGinness of Mesa, AZ; and several grand, great grand and great great grand children.
preceded in death by her first Husband, Cecil Broom; seven brothers, Carl, Lester and Earl Cocklin, Jerry, Robert, Donald and Paul McGinness.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 3 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Joel Kline officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 12 Noon until time of services. She will then be taken to Huntington, IN for services and burial. Memorials may be given to the Highland Ave. Church of the Brethren in Elgin or to Provena St. Joseph Hospice.
Louis Eugene Vandenbergh
Louis Eugene Vandenbergh, age 52, of Hampshire, IL, died on Friday, January 13, 2006 at his home. Gene was born on June 8, 1953 in Pana, IL, the son of Louis and Lucille (nee Ashcraft) Vandenbergh.
Louis attended Sacred Heart School, Pana High School, and was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. He was a 25 year employee of Kuriyama of America Inc. in Schaumburg, IL. Gene was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Hampshire. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved to garden. Throughout his illness, Gene kept his sense of humor and never complained.
Gene is survived by his wife of 22 years, Maryanne (nee O'Brien) whom he married
on June 18, 1983; two sons, Phillip (Jeni) of Chesterton, IN, Bradley of Hampshire; his mother, Lucille Rhodes; his sisters, Dorothy Rhodes, Helen Waddington, Phyllis (Jerry) Blackwell, all of Pana, Patricia (Dwight) Yoshioka of Glenview, and Carol (Larry) Williams of Granger, IN. Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Family and friends will meet for Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the St. Charles Borromeo Church in Hampshire. The Rev. Joseph Nicolosi, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Borromeo cemetery, Hampshire.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2006 from 3-9 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. A Memorial Mass will be held in Pana, IL at the St. Patrick Catholic Church at a later date.

Kathryn M. Dettman
Kathryn M. Dettman, 99, of Elgin passed away Monday, January 13, 2003 at the Hampton Plaza, Niles. She was born April 21, 1903 in Chicago, the daughter of Albert and Anna Boenning Junker. She had been a resident of Elgin for the past 51 years. After raising her family she helped her husband, Herman operate the Valley View Inn in Algonquin and then she was employed by Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin in the admitting department before retiring. She was a longtime member of St. Laurence Catholic Church in Elgin. She loved to garden, sew, crochet and embroider.
Surviving are her daughter, Jeanne K. (Robert) Watson of Morton Grove, three sons, Robert J. (Roselyn) Dettman of Salt Lake City, UT, James F. Dettman of Elgin, Gerald H. (Phyllis) Dettman of Wauwatosa, WI, 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and three sisters, Grace Heck of Minocqua, WI, Helen Dettman of Ft. Atkinson, WI and Betty (Bernard) Harvey of Ponchatoula, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman G. Dettman in 1990, a sister, Marie Oppen and two brothers, Albert and Robert Junker.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Laurence Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Joseph F. Kulak officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass in the church. Memorials may be given to St. Laurence Catholic Church.
Dolores M. Fonte
Dolores M. Fonte, 76, of Sleepy Hollow died Tuesday, January 14, in her home. She was born in Milwaukee, WI on October 8, 1926. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, formerly of St. Monica Catholic Church. She was a devoted employee of Otto Engineering for 20 years. She was a volunteer for NISRA and very involved with Special Olympics.
She is survived by her three daughters, Norma (Paul) Hulsey of Lula, GA, Mary Wiley of Gary, IN and Catherine (Jay) Bjork of Sleepy Hollow, two sons, Anthony Fonte of Chicago and Steven Fonte of Rockford; one step-daughter, Kathleen Fonte of Milwaukee, WI, two step-sons, James Fonte and Thomas Fonte, both of Milwaukee, WI, eight grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony, on October 12, 1995 and two sons, Michael and Christy Joe.
Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, January 18 at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church. Rev. Richard Rosinski officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryhill cemetery in Niles. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-9 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and in church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials may be made to the Goldie Floberg Center in Rockton, IL.
Ronald L. Heller
Ronald L. Heller, 39, of Greely, CO, formerly of Carpentersville, died January 11 at his home. He was born in Elgin February 20, 1963 to LeRoy and Bernadette Spiczka. He was a 1981 graduate of Dundee High School where he wrestled and played football. Ron was a singer for the Dundee High School Madrigals. He was also a member of the Elgin Moose. He earned an associate degree as a surgical assistant in Colorado.
He is survived by one son, Anthony Heller of Loveland, CO, five brothers and sisters: Ken Poulos of West Dundee, Gail (Edward) Muren of Huntley, Barbara (Bill) Stephenson of Des Plaines, Bill (Kris) Heller of Chicago, Ken Heller of Chicago. His special friend Shari Broderick of Greely, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two nephews and one great nephew.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, January 18, at 3 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be made to the family.
Elisabeth Klein
Elisabeth Klein, 72, of Elgin, died Sunday, January 12, 2003 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
She was born July 10, 1930, in Franzfeld, Yugoslavia, to Friedrich and Katharina (nee Koch) Mohr. She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church (Nazarean) in Elgin and she had worked for Hoffer Plastics for 33 years, retiring in 1992.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Hans Klein, to whom she was married
in April of 1948; two sons, Otto and Walter, both of Elgin; two granddaughters, Laura (Richard Scott) Powers and Sarah (Theodore Joseph) Inciong, all of Elgin; her great-grandson, Oliver Lee Inciong; her sister, Katharina Mohr of Elgin; a niece, Rose (Mark) Gerth and a nephew, Frank Fischer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law, Mary (Fricke) Klein; and two sisters, Barbara Fischer and Susanne Mohr.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Funeral Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin, Illinois, with Elder Brother Roman Pentsa and Brother Mark Gerth of Apostolic Christian Church (Nazarean) officiating.
Burial will follow at Bluff City cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Maureen Una (Duquette) Metcalf
Maureen Una (Duquette) Metcalf passed away Monday, January 9, 2003 at her home.
She was born in Fall River, MA on November 7, 1935, the eldest of four children from the union of Arthur Duquette and Cora Marcoux.
Maureen is survived by her two brothers, Michael and Theodore Duquette; and her only sister, Connie (Duquette) East. Former wife of Edgar Lorin Metcalf, Maureen has three children, Lauren Dianne Zellar, Christopher Edgar Metcalf and Leslie Gail Metcalf and was a loving grandmother to Michael Christopher Metcalf.
Maureen graduated from East Hartford High School in 1953 and went on to a Bachelor's Degree in 1960 from the University of Connecticut. From there she then completed a Masters Degree in Education at New York State University in 1974. Finally, her love to be learning culminated in another Masters Degree in Business Administration from the National College of Education (Lombard) in 1989. Her educational pursuits lead her to a 24 year career culminating as the Director of Early Childhood Education at the Dundee Township Park District. Maureen was well known through-out the community as a leader truly concerned about the welfare of our children. She will be sorely missed.
