Albert T. Worden
Albert T. Worden, 79, of Carpentersville died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at the Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. He was born on April 30, 1922 in Rensselaer, Indiana, the son of Thomas and Irene Worden.
Al was a 43 year resident of Carpentersville. He was a very active member of St. Monica Church, Carpentersville where he helped with the Youth Ministry and the Prayer Ministry. He was a Mechanical Engineer and a former 20 year employee of Paul D Metal of Chicago. He was a W.W. II Navy Veteran, a life member of VFW #2298 in West Dundee, a member of the Lake In The Hills American Legion, The Lake In The Hills Sportsmans Club and the Lake In The Hills Property Owners Association.
Al is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Bergren Worden, whom he married in San Francisco, CA on October 15, 1943; three loving children, Sharon (Harold) Wright of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Jerry (Rita) Worden of Lake In The Hills and Irene (Robert) Nottoli of Lake In The Hills. Al was a proud and adoring grandfather of five and a great-grandfather of ten. Also surviving are two brothers, George of Brentwood, WI and Walter (Carrie) of Round Lake Beach; a sister, Rita Raleigh of Eau Claire, WI as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Henrietta and Rose.
Funeral services will be on Friday, February 22, 2002 at 9:15 A.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee to St. Monica Church, Carpentersville for mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the Queen of Heaven cemetery, Hillside. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3-9:00 P.M. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made to the St. Monica Church, Carpentersville or Masses would be appreciated.

Allen Perdue Britton
Allen Perdue Britton, PhD., 88, of DeKalb, IL, formerly of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away Monday, February 17, 2003 at Bethany Health and Rehabilitation Center in DeKalb.
He was born May 25, 1914 in Elgin, IL the son of Walter and Mary (Perdue) Britton. He was a 1932 graduate of Elgin High School and received his BS with honors in music and his master's degree in education from the University of Illinois. Following his World War II Army service, he returned to the University of Michigan, receiving his PHD in musicology in 1949.
Dr. Britton was a professor of music at the University of Michigan for 47 years retiring as Dean of the School of Music. He was the author of more than 100 articles and reviews published in a wide variety of journals.
Surviving are his wife, Veronica (Wallace) Britton of DeKalb, a sister, Vera Phillips of Rochelle, IL, nieces Valerie (Rick) Gildehaus of Murphysboro, IL, Kathleen Wallace of Hampshire, IL, nephews William (Karen) Phillips of Gibson City, IL and Gregory (Gaye) Wallace of Hampshire, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rollin Bruce Britton.
There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, February 21 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire with the Rev. Joseph P. Nicolosi officiating. Private interment will be in the Bluff City cemetery in Elgin, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the School of Music at the University of Michigan.

Orval M. Graening
Orval M. Graening, 92, of Sleepy Hollow, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2003 in his home. He was born September 2, 1910 in Dundee, the son of Otto and Ida Albrecht Graening and had been a resident of the Dundee area all of his life. Orval rose from office boy to salesman to Vice President and then President of Woodruff and Edwards Foundry in Elgin. Woodruff and Edwards was in business for 120 years and Orval was with the company for 60 years before retiring in 1988.
Orval was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in West Dundee and was the first person baptized at the church and was presently the oldest living male member of the church. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Home Federal Savings in Elgin for 30 years.
Surviving are his wife, Lois, daughters, Dolly (Robert) Reilly of Marblehead, MA and Vicky (William) Harbeck of Decatur, IL, son Jay (Joyce) Graening of Lincoln, AR, step-children, James (Rose) Stark of Carpentersville, Jeanne (Don) Petry of Hampshire and Sally (Mark) Rajcevich of Batavia, seven grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa Reilly, Andrew, Matthew and Michael Harbeck, Guy (Kathy) and Gary Graening, six step-grandchildren, Rick Stark, Julie (Jim) Kelly, Margo (Axel) Brown, Greg, Hundley and Mark Rejcevich and Linda (Dale) Underwood, two great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marie in 1988, two sisters, Ruth Anniballi and Marion Sund.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, West Dundee with Rev. Steven Simon officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St. (Corner of S. Third and Oregon) West Dundee and Friday from 12 NOON until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.

Gordon Hammer
Gordon Hammer, age 64, of Carpentersville, died Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at Sherman Hospital.
He was the husband of Sharon Hammer, father of Elizabeth (Butler) Dale, Lura Hammer (Dirk Dypold), Linda Anderson (Thomas). Grandfather of Michael Marksberry, Catherine Marksberry, Rebecca Hansen, Aaron Anderson, Cassandra Anderson, Ila Anderson and Audrey Anderson.

Major Betty Joan Jordan
Major Betty Joan Jordan, 67, of Bloomingdale, died Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the Alden Valley Ridge Nursing Center in Bloomingdale. She was born July 9, 1935, in Racine, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Honings) Bohan.
Major Jordan had served as a Salvation Army Officer for 40 years. Betty will long be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, and as a lady with the capacity to bring out the best in everyone. As Lieutenant Betty Bohan, she served in Aurora and the St. Charles Valley View area, as well as Chicago Lawn area and Chicago Territorial headquarters. She was the Territorial Guard and Sunbeam Director for the 11 central states, directing girls character building activities, serving several thousand girls, when she married Captain Everett Jordan on August 8, 1964. Together they served the Chicago area in Elgin from 1974-1978, Chicago Mt. Greenwood from 1978-1982, and most recently serving nearly 4,000 seniors in Kane, Kendall and McHenry Counties via The Salvation Army Golden Diners Nutrition Program with the central office in Geneva from April 1991 through September 2001.
Major Betty Jordan was a valued member of The Salvation Army's Ladies Home League and League of Mercy programs. Over the years, she has visited thousands of nursing home residents, shut-ins, and veterans in VA hospitals. She also had been a past member of Business and Professional Women's Club, Zonta International, Altrusa Club, and played an active role in Church Women United with particular emphasis on World Day of Prayer programs. In 2002, Major Betty and Major Everett retired in Rockford.
Major Jordan is survived by her husband of 38 1/2 years, Major Everett E. Jordan; her children, Everett (Lisa) Jordan of Lombard, Ronald (Heather) Jordan of Aurora, Mark (Heather) Jordan of Aurora, Catherine Jordan of Schaumburg and Joy (Matthew) Suder of Lincoln, NE; her eight grandchildren, Austin, Tyler and Kalliyan Jordan and Stephen, Allison and Rachel Jordan, Levi and Samuel Jordan; two brothers, Harry (Grace) Bohan of Huntsville, TX and John Bohan of Milwaukee, WI and her sister, Carla Bohan of Madison, WI; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Marie (Honings) Bohan.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2003 at the Oakbrook Terrace Salvation Army Corps, 1S415 Summit Avenue, Villa Park. Burial will be in Glen Oak cemetery in Hillside, located at Mannheim and Roosevelt Road.
Visitation will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2003 at the Oakbrook Terrace Salvation Army Corps in Villa Park and prior to the service on Friday morning, beginning at 9 a.m. Contributions in Major Jordan's memory may be made to The Salvation Army.

Helen M. McConnell
Helen M. McConnell, 70, of Carpentersville, IL, passed away Wednesday in her home, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born February 12, 1933 in Chicago, IL and was the daughter of Michael and Bridget Coyne. A 34 year resident of Carpentersville, Helen was an avid bingo player and will be missed by all who knew hew. She was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church of Carpentersville, IL.
Survivors include five children, Brian (Nancy) McConnell of Austin, TX, Eileen McConnell of Elgin, Maureen (Robert) Golding of Carpentersville, IL, Patrick (Mary) McConnell of Kingston, IL and Kathleen McConnell of Carpentersville, IL, six grandchildren, Amber, Tanya, Megan, Kelly, Madelyn and George, three sisters and one brother.
preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald McConnell in 1997, one brother, Bill Coyne in 2000.
Funeral services will start with prayers at 10:15 a.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee, to St. Monica's Catholic Church of Carpentersville for Mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. William Schuessler officiating. Burial will be in Dundee Twp. East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:30-8:30 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, West Dundee, and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until prayers in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Dorothy C. Myers
Dorothy C. Myers, 82, of Elgin, formerly of Lisle, IL, passed away February 19, 2003 at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center. She was born November 28, 1920 in Chicago, the daughter of John and Esther Olson Johnson. She had been a resident of Lisle for over 40 years and had been a resident of Elgin for the past two years.
Surviving are her children, John W. (Pamela) Myers of Lisle, Judy (Jim) Erl of Westmont, Jeffery Myers (Jennifer Almanza) of Lisle and Jerry T. (Sandra L.) of West Chicago, five grandchildren, Jim (Laurie) and Doreen Erl, Kelsey, Taylor and Shannon Myers, one great grandson, Joseph Vana and one brother, Albert Johnson of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester W. Myers in 1980, three brothers, Gunnard, Gilbert and Robert Johnson and one sister, Violet Johnson.
Private funeral services will be held Saturday at Clarendon Hills cemetery, Darien. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Elgin Senior Services, 101 S. Grove Ave., Elgin.

Hazel Jane Potts
Hazel Jane Potts, 66, of Elgin passed away Tuesday in her home. She was born November 3, 1936 in Vienna, IL and was the daughter of Joseph and Bethel (Simmons) Potts. Hazel Jane had worked at Chicago Rawhide for many years prior to her retirement.
Survivors include four sisters, Josie Marie (Eddie) Keeler of Auburn, WA, Audrey Faye Combs of Little Rock, AR, Mary Jane (Daryl) Buck of Springfield, MO and Katherine Rebecca (Jerry) Quin of South Elgin, IL, two brothers, Joseph Richard (Gloria) Potts of South Elgin, IL and John Thomas (Annita) Potts of Whitwell, TN and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Helen Jean Hollinger and Mavie Arlene Rasmussen.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Taylor cemetery, Vienna, IL. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Bailey Funeral Home, Vienna, IL with visitation on Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Ralph N. Smith
Ralph N. Smith, 88, of Elgin passed away Monday, February 17, 2003 in Elgin. He was born August 3, 1914 in Hartsville, IL, the son of George and Minnie Langford Smith. He had been a resident of Elgin since 1956. He had farmed in Pope County, IL before coming to Elgin where he worked as a carpenter before retiring. He loved to take care of his garden and his yard. He was a member of Carpenters Local #839 since 1956.
Surviving are his wife, Fern Williams Smith, whom he married on March 2, 1938, three daughters, Lorece Smith of Elgin, Lorene Geske of Yuma, CO and Reta (Bernie) Vogt of Elgin, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Lenora Smith Hufsey, a grandson and two brothers.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 12 NOON at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Chaplain Stan De Vries officiating. Burial will be in River Valley Memorials Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois or the charity of one's choice.

Blanche Eunice Cornwall Turner
Blanche Eunice Cornwall Turner, 76, of St. Charles, died Sunday, February 16, 2003 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore. She was born October 2, 1926 in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Archibald and Nellie (Kirkman) Cornwall.
Blanche was a certified piano teacher by the age of 12. She studied for two years at Stevens College in Columbia, MO, was a graduate of Northwestern University where she received two masters degrees. She did her post graduate work at National College of Education in Evanston.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband of 54 years, James; her children, Glenn Turner of Bartlett, Lee Anne (Tom) Turner Lundquist of Onalaska, TX, Jeffrey Turner of St. Charles and Paula (Paul) Turner Stuck of Bristol; five grandchildren, Sarah, Crystal, Jessica and David Stuck and Elissa Lundquist.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2003 at the Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third Street, St. Charles. Burial will be in North cemetery, St. Charles. Information: 630-584-2000 or www.NorrisFH.com.

Irene M. Wegmann
Irene M. Wegmann, 82, of Elgin, passed away Monday in her home after a struggle with cancer.
She was born June 20, 1920 in Elgin, and was the daughter of Emeric and Julia (Balough) Mayer.
Irene was a resident of Elgin all of her life, and had worked at the Elgin National Watch Factory. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Elgin.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Wegmann of Elgin, whom she married on June 4, 1949; two children, Gary Wegmann of Elgin and Kimberly Reed of Glenn Lakes, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Emil, Ernest and Emeric Mayer; and a sister, Helen Erickson.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 9 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
