Manley H. "Butch" Lange
Manley H. "Butch" Lange, 67, of Carpentersville, died Tuesday, February 25, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. He was born July 18, 1935 to Frank and Emily (nee Shear) Lange in Elgin. He worked for I.T.W. Shakeproof in Elgin for 34 years. He worked part time for five years at the Dundee Township Library and also for Precision Car Wash in East Dundee. He was a Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Elgin American Legion Post #57. He was also a member of the King of Glory Lutheran Church in Elgin.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Rakow), three daughters: Ginger Colpen of DeKalb, Loane (Ray) Ross of South Elgin, Christi Lange of Carpentersville, three grandchildren: James (Angela) Colpen, Kathy Colpen both of DeKalb and Jessica Ross of South Elgin, two great-grandchildren: Vanessa and Nathaniel Colpen of DeKalb, two sisters: Phyllis Todd of Elgin and Norma Carl of Carpentersville, one brother, Marvin (Betty) Lange of Florida and one brother-in-law, Emery Szigeti of Florida. Many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: Bill Lange, two sisters, Arlene Szigeti and Ruby Haberstitch.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the King of Glory Lutheran Church (Hopps and Randall Roads) Elgin. Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin. Visitation on Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and in church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be made to the King of Glory Lutheran Church.
Leora M. Melahn
Leora M. Melahn, 97, of Elgin, formerly of East Dundee, died Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born in West Dundee on May 4, 1905, the daughter of William and Bertha (nee Maventhal) Krunnfusz.
Mrs. Melahn was a life long resident of the Dundee area. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of West Dundee for over 60 years. She was a member of the Women's Fellowship of the church. Mrs. Melahn was a former member of the Dundee Twp. 50+ Club. She was a former member of the Dundee Women's Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Herbert H., Jr.) Beck of Dundee Township, one granddaughter, Kimberly (Douglas) Bond of Elgin, two grandsons, Scott (Sue) Haverkampf of Sleepy Hollow and David Haverkampf of Vancouver, WA, two step grandsons, Robert (Lucy) Beck, M.D. of Fairfax, VA and Herbert, H. III (Julie) Beck, M.D. of Mettawa, IL. Great grandmother of Morgan, Kyle and Daniel Haverkampf and Stephanie, Andrew, Kathryn and James Beck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martin W. Melahn, the former Dundee Township Assessor in 1974, two brothers, Alfred and Robert Krunnfusz and two sisters, Laura Landwehr and Melanie Schultz.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. The Rev. Pamela F. Pendexter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery, East Dundee. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home. The family has asked for the omission of flowers, memorials may be made to either the First Congregational Church or the Arthritis Foundation.
David M. Pearson
David M. Pearson, 75, of West Dundee, former many year resident of Carpentersville died Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at the Manor Care Healthcare Center in Elgin. He was born in Carpentersville on February 15, 1928, the son of Arnold and Ethel Pearson.
Dave was a life long resident of the area and was associated with the Carpentersville and Countryside Fire Protection District for 37 years. He retired in 1991. He was a United States Navy Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Marilyn (nee Garrelts) Pearson. They married
on May 5, 1950. Five children: John (Julie) Pearson of Brandon, FL, Tim (Vivian Knell) Pearson of Hampshire, Craig Pearson and Scott Pearson, both of West Dundee and Barbara Fries of Elgin, seven grandchildren and four great granddaughters, four brothers: Leth (Joan) Pearson of East Dundee, Adrian (Ellen) Pearson of Lake In The Hills, Paul Pearson of Mauston, WI and Lester (Margaret) Pearson of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Louis, Gerald and Arnold, Jr., one sister: Roberta Behm.
Memorial Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Mr. Dan Arndt will officiate. Burial will be private. Friends may visit with the family from 3:30 p.m. until time of the service. The family has asked for the omission of flowers.
Jane Sachen (Weiler)
Jane Sachen (Weiler), 80, of Elgin died February 17, 2003 at home. She was born February 13, 1923 in Aurora, the daughter of George and Mary Weiler. Jane was a graduate of Madonna High School in Aurora and has worked at St. Joseph's Parish, St. Edwards High School, Elgin Public School and with J&J; Data Supplies.
Survivors include her husband Jim whom she married
in 1945. One son, Jeff (Carol) Sachen of Elgin; two daughters Lynelle (Dale) Ducommun of Lake Zurich and Jodeen Sachen of Schaumburg; four grandchildren, Wendy Pae Bennett of South Elgin, Dawn Pae of Elgin, and Steve and Cathy Sachen of Elgin; two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Gianna Pae Bennett. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jane will be cremated and a memorial mass will be held on March 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Elgin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4709 Golf Rd. Ronald Dean Galbraith
Ronald Dean Galbraith, 71, of Elgin, Illinois passed away Friday, February 28, 2003.
Born in Elgin on May 7, 1931 to Raymond and Gertrude (Cremeens) Galbraith.
Ronnie was a sergeant in the United States Marines during the Korean War. After Korea, Ronnie returned to Elgin where he was in business with his father owning and operating Galbraith & Son Trucking. During that time, he was a member and active in the Northend Elgin Business Association. Ronnie had retired from the construction business where he was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Elgin American Legion Post #57, the Elgin Riverside Club, the Elgin Owls Club and a past member of Midwest Operation Engineers Union Local #150. Ronnie was an avid hunter of deer, pheasant and quail and played golf in the American Legion Golf League.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Schmitendorf) Galbraith, to whom he married
on June 13, 1986; his daughter, Vicki (David) Wilder of Hampshire; stepson, David Holmquist; step daughters, Roxanne Strickler and Candice Hansen; grandchildren, Alison (Kevin Kentgen) Chaney, Bridget Chaney, Melissa Wilder, Alicia (Scott) Lawson, Andrew (Sandy) Strickler, Alex Strickler, Dan (Kelly) Massa, Nicole (George) Bozilovic and Angela Hansen; great grandchildren, Kiya and Hunter Kentgen, Matthew Lawson and Alexander Strickler; his aunt, Madge Irby of Thompsonville, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Frances Tolley.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 11 AM at Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Thomas O'Connor of St. Paul's United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be private at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Monday, March 3, 2003 from 4 to 8 PM and on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 from 10 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.

Donald T. Heath
Donald T. Heath, 72, of Elgin, IL died Friday, February 28, 2003 at Sherman Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1930 in Elgin to Clifford S. and Dolly (Perrin) Heath.
He was a life time resident of Elgin, former member of Elgin Turners, The Anvil Club and Musicians Union. He retired from Elgin Salvage & Supply Co. where he had worked for 15 years as their Comptroller/Vice-President.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella "Marcy" (Anselment) Heath, whom he married
on September 28, 1975; daughters, Connie (John) Johnson of Plant City, FL, Pam (Jeff) Reuter of South Elgin, Beth (Jim) Steele and Melanie (Dennis) Tillman both of Elgin; a son, Joe Wise of Elgin; sisters, Violet Schuelke and Betty Jones both of Elgin; grandsons, Larry, Brian, Mitch and Weston; granddaughters, Brenda, Jamie and Megan; three great grandsons; and three great granddaughters; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bob and Niece Besler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Larry and David; sisters, Virginia Hardway, Marjorie Brown, Winifred Harris, Beverly Gutierrez; and a brother, Richard Heath.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Monday, March 3, 2003 at the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Funeral Chapel with Rev. Thomas Niermann of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.

Arlene Marion Anderson Jacob
Arlene Marion Anderson Jacob, B.S.N., 79, died February 21, 2003 at home in Charles Town, W.V. under hospice care surrounded by her family, after waging a long and courageous battle against breast cancer. She was born September 11, 1923 in Elgin, IL, and for many years had homes in both Dundee, IL and Castle Rock Lake, WI. Arlene graduated from St. Francis College in Joliet, IL and retired in 1988 from the Psychiatric Nursing staff at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin.
She leaves behind her spouse of 59 years, John Pilcher Jacob of Charles Town, five sons, John Arno Jacob and wife Jean of San Lorenzo, CA, Kevin Michael Jacob of Carpentersville, IL, Marc Alan Jacob and wife Vya of Chambery, France, Robert Joseph Jacob of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, Gregory Paul Jacob and wife Michelle of Reynoldsburg, OH, and one daughter, Ann Katharine Kiss Smith and husband Gary of Charles Town.
The bereaved include her grandchildren, Kellie Jean Livermore and husband Tony, John Dieter Jacob and wife Dee, Stacie Marie Jacob and Marcie Lynn Jacob in California, her granddaughter, Deborah Rose Jacob Kiss at home, her step-grandson Brian Cody Smith in Pennsylvania, her grandson Aaron John Jacob in Florida, her grandsons Ryan and Christopher Jacob in Ohio, and her great-grandchildren, Anthony and Ashlie Livermore in California. She is also survived by three sisters, Bernice Grams of Dundee, IL, Ruth Watzlawick of Appleton, WI, and Dora Sanders of South Elgin, IL, her brother-in-law, Richard E. Jacob and wife Janet of Vernon Hills, IL, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joan Therese Jacob, her parents Harry and Gerda (Larson) Anderson, a brother Clarence Anderson and a sister E. Lucille Fay.
A Memorial Mass was held at St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town. Interment will be a private ceremony at the Arlington National cemetery in Virginia.
Doris L. Julian
Doris L. Julian, 72, of South Elgin passed away Sunday, February 23, 2003 in her home.
She was born June 2, 1930 in Evanston, IL, the daughter of John and Evelyn Johnson Lindgren.
Doris graduated from Sycamore High School, Sycamore, IL, in 1948. She had been a 45 year resident of South Elgin.
Survivors include four children, Jane Julian (Brett) Gosney of Durango, CO, Nancy (Nathan) Linhart of St. Charles, IL, Amy (Andy) Prickett of Elgin, IL and John R. Julian of Dillon, CO; seven grandchildren, Gina, Chelsea, Megan, Jesse, Sam, Travis and Natalie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John J. Julian in 1993.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 7 PM in the Christ Community Church, Corner of Randall Rd and Bolcum Rd, St. Charles, IL. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.
Theresa M. Schroeder
Theresa M. Schroeder, 41, of Elgin passed away Thursday, February 27, 2003 in her home.
She was born September 28, 1961 in Highland Park, IL, the daughter of John and Mary Ebert.
Theresa had worked at Alderwood Health Care Center in South Elgin, IL, as the Activities Director. She enjoyed working with and caring for the elderly. She was a member of Women of the Moose #610.
She was married
to John P. Schroeder for 21 years, and is survived by their three children; Denise M., Erin T. and John P. Schroeder II all of Elgin; four sisters, Alice Martins of Carpentersville, IL, Julie (David) Cunningham of OH, Denise Ebert of KY and Trisha (Chris) Chapman of KY; a brother, John Ebert of KY; her mother of KY; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 to 8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private.

Olive Seyller
Olive Seyller, 92, of Hampshire passed away Friday, February 28, 2003 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
She was born August 31, 1910 in Scottsburg, IN, the daughter of William and Mary (Murphy) Bartle.
Olive married
Maurice E. Seyller on October 13, 1934 in Elgin and they resided in Burlington until moving to Hampshire in 1950. Mrs. Seyller had been employed as a Cafeteria Manager at the Hampshire High School and at the Hampshire Elementary School. She also assisted her husband in the operation of Seyller Transports of Hampshire for many years.
Olive was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hampshire, the United Methodist Women, the Hampshire Women's Club and the Order of the Eastern Star of Genoa.
Surviving are her daughter, Maureen (Richard) Mikyska of Marengo; former daughter-in-law, Patricia (Jerry) Eck of Sedona, AZ; four grandchildren, Robert (Halle) Cox of St. Charles, Brenda (Johathon) Courtney of Hampshire, Brian (Jennifer) Seyller of Minneapolis, MN, and Todd (Jessica) Seyller of Prescott, AZ; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice on June 22, 1992; her son Jerry Seyller on September 4, 1973; and three brothers, Fern, Orville and Claude Bartle.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 3, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church, 207 Grove Ave., Hampshire with the Rev. Daniel Davis officiating. Burial will be in the Hampshire Center cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 PM Sunday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire with services by the Order of the Eastern Star at 5 PM.
