Carl E. Fischer
Carl E. Fischer, 70, of Burlington, IL passed away Monday, February 11, 2002 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.
He was born June 1, 1931 in West Bloomfield, WI, the son of Martin and Lydia (Strochein) Fischer. Carl married Donna L. Schuelke on March 20, 1954 in Readfield, WI. They resided in Freemont, WI for eight years before moving to Burlington, IL in 1964.
Mr. Fischer had been employed by Playskool of Hampshire, IL, Cargill Inc. of Carpentersville, IL and the W.R. Meadows Plant in Hampshire. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Burlington.
Surviving are his wife, Donna; children, Michael (Teri) Fischer of Ogdensburg, WI and Tracy (Chuck) Wiskirchen of Elgin, IL; three grandchildren, Catlin and Brody Fischer and Thomas Wiskerchen; two sisters, Bernice Fischer and Lorraine Fischer, both of Weyauwega, WI and two brothers-in-law, Eugene (Lorraine) Schuelke of Dale, WI and Harlen (Betty) Schuelke of Appleton, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, February 15, 2002 at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire, IL with the Rev. Howard Gleason, Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Following cremation, burial will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2002 in the Oakwood cemetery in Weyawauga, WI. Memorials in his name may be directed to the St. John's Lutheran Church of Burlington, IL.

Gertrude M. Pierce
Gertrude M. Pierce, age 97, of Batavia, formerly of Elgin, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2002 at the Michaelson Health Care Center, Batavia. She was born April 21, 1904 in Mt. Carroll, IL, the daughter of Charles and Blanche Pogue Moore. She had been a resident of Elgin most of her life before moving to the Holmstad in Batavia in 1977. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois.
She was a member of First Congregational Church of Elgin. She was a former member of Fideliters Club of Elgin, the Travel Class and the Pan Ellinic Club.
Surviving are her son, William K. (Deloris) Pierce of DeKalb; two grandchildren, Julie (Kent) Calhoon of Aurora, IL and Jamie (Paul) Kaczmarek of Bolingbrook, IL; also two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William "Ken" Pierce in 1984; three sisters, Helen MacLeod, Charlotte Merritt and Marjorie Casselberry.
Memorial services will be held in the spring. Burial will be private in Oak Hill cemetery, Mt. Carroll, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church of Elgin or the charity of one's choice. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, is in charge of arrangements.

George H. Russell
George H. Russell, age 60, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2002 in Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was born June 14, 1941 in Chippewa Falls, WI, the son of Lawrence and Lillian Paul Russell. He had been a resident of Elgin for most of his life. He was employed by Laborers Local 582 in Elgin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Laborers Local 582 of Elgin and the NRA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Paulette "Polly" Russell, whom he married on December 10, 1970; a daughter, Tracy Russell of Woodstock; a son, Brian Russell of Huntley; two grandchildren, Quincy Russell and Jacob Reis; a sister, Darlene (Edward) Davis of Elgin; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Rev. Thomas O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in South Elgin cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.

Ruth Margaret Braun-Smith
Ruth Margaret Braun-Smith, 63, of Elgin, IL. died Monday, February 4, 2002 at home. Born July 31, 1938 in Elgin to Richard and Margaret (Baumbach) Braun. "Ruthie" was a 1956 graduate of Elgin High School.
She is survived by a daughter, Joy (Edward) Sermonti; a brother, John R. (Janet) Braun of Indianapolis, IN and her pet cat, Precious Angel.
preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward at birth; a daughter, Kay Ann; her husband, Raymond Smith; a nephew, Daniel J. Braun.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at the Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel. Private interment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park cemetery at a later date.

Violet Zimmer
Violet Zimmer, 90, of Elgin, died Friday, February 9, 2002 in Carrington Care Nursing Home, South Elgin. A resident of Elgin all of her life and retired from Cook Communications. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elgin.
She is survived by two sons, John (Janet) A. Zimmer of Alexandria, MN and Michael G. Zimmer of Chesterfield, MO; her daughter, Jill (Robert) Malohn; two sisters, Marjorie Whalen of Yuma, AZ and Florence Howell of Platteville, WI; grandchildren, Michael G. Zimmer, Elizabeth Zimmer Harris, Robert G. Malohn, Jr., Kelly (Steven) Malohn Geick, Sarah (Kurt) Erickson, Paula (John) Glieden and John (Tina) Zimmer III; also her great-grandchildren, John and Sally Glieden, Melissa, Andrew and Morgan Zimmer; Mason, Dylan and Johnna Geick; Anne and Michelle Erickson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Raymond Sponholtz; two sisters, Dorothy Miller and Lucille Kramer and her grandson, Jeffrey Malohn.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at Judson College. Violet was a member of the Friends of Judson.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 15, 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1735 West Highland Avenue, Elgin, Illinois.

Albert A. Humes
Albert A. Humes, age 59, of St. Charles, died Tuesday at his home. He was born April 7, 1943 in Urbana, IL. Mr. Humes was employed by the St. Charles Post Office for over 35 years. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed bowling and fishing.
He is survived by his sons, Tod (Gina) Humes of Elgin and Robert (Ami) Humes of South Elgin, daughter, Ranada Humes of Sleepy Hollow. three grandchildren, Brianna, Robert Jr. and Christina. Two brothers, Ivan (Bev) Humes of Superior, WI and Norman (Joyce) Humes of Manhatten, KS. One sister, Aileen (Jay) Weber of Batavia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Ruby Humes.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles. Interment will be at Union cemetery, St. Charles. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jean Kerruish
Jean Kerruish, 73, of South Elgin passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born May 2, 1929 in St. Charles, the daughter of Willis "Van" and Bernice Van Arsdall. She had been a resident of the Elgin and South Elgin area most of her life. She was a graduate of Elgin High School Class of 1948. She had been employed by Waschers TV and Appliance Center in South Elgin before retiring. She was a former member of the Ladies of the Elks Lodge, Elgin and the South Elgin Lioness Club.
Surviving are her husband, Gordon L. Kerruish, whom she married August 22, 1958, three daughters, Jill (Ernie) Kunda of Venice, FL, Julie (Stephen) Heise of Rhinelander, WI and Jannee (Jeff) Waterman of Elgin, one son, Jeff (Carole Jean) Kerruish of Elgin, a daughter-in-law, Diane Kerruish of South Elgin, seven grandchildren and one sister, Phyllis (John) Abbate of Hobart, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, John Kerruish in 1995 and a grandson, Ryan Kunda in 1981.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin with Chaplain Ed Hunter officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of services in the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association or to Provena St. Joseph Hospital Hospice.

Clayton D. Landis
Clayton D. Landis, 77, of Elgin passed away February 8, 2003 at his home. He was born November 3, 1925 in Elgin, the son of Vern and Jessie Chamberlain Landis. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was on the Elgin City Council from 1971 until 1973. He was also a member of the Elgin American Legion Post 57.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Candie) Landis of Colorado and Duane (Maureen) Zeimet of Elgin, two daughters, Sandra (Robert) Stauss of Elgin and Judie (Tony) Kaczoroski of California, seven grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, Michael, Greg, Theresa, Nikki and Scott. Eight great grandchildren, Derek, Brooke, Amanda, Kelly, Terri, Kaylee, Keren and Joshua.
preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Frances and one daughter, Patsy.
Funeral service will take place Saturday, February 15, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Madison Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Please omit flowers. Memorial to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and Macular Degeneration Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements by Madison Funeral Home, 847-741-1128.

Lois J. Williams
Lois J. Williams, 70, of Necedah, WI died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at the Mile Bluff Medical Center, Mauston, WI. She was born May 7, 1932 to Charles and Neva Koehnke in Elgin, IL.
Her children survive her: Charles (Julie) Utz of Ixonia, WI, Deborah (Richard) Gersch of LaPorte, IN, Jamie Hedmark of Streamwood, IL, Marsha (David) Thoren of Elgin, IL, Jodie (John) Driscoll of Elgin, IL, Sallie (Garey) Martinson of Necedah, WI and Peggie (Chris) Loeffler of Wake Forest, NC. Two sisters: Ruby (Lee) Warnke of Colorado and Joy (Duke) Eagle of Elgin, IL, 20 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gordon and Darwin Koehnke.
Lois had a great love for her children, grandchildren and her cat, Thomas. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Torkelson Necedah Family Funeral Home in Necedah, WI. Friends and family may call on Thursday from 5 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
Graveside services will take place on Friday, February 14 at 2 p.m. at Bluff City cemetery, Elgin, IL.

Geraldine Wleklinski
Geraldine Wleklinski, 69, of Carpentersvile died at the Tower Hills Healthcare Center in South Elgin on Tuesday. She was born in Chicago on September 28, 1933 to Edward and Emma (nee Jeske) Quinn. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by four children: Lynn (Steve) Anderson of Magnolia, TX, LeeAnn DeFabio of East Dundee, Matthew Wleklinski and Terrance Wleklinski, both of Carpentersville, five grandchildren: Ricky Wilbourn of Memphis, TN, Wayne Anthony Wilson of Hampshire, Lindsay Wilson of Hampshire, Jeff Anderson of Houston, TX and Stephanie (Anderson) Kirtley of Houston, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Michael and one son, Mark in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 14 in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow at River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.

Robert "Bob" E. Barrett
Robert "Bob" E. Barrett, 75, of Aurora passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at his daughter's home in North Aurora after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 1, 1929 in Sugar Grove, the son of the late LeRoy and Alma (Schingoethe) Barrett.
Bob was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the St. Paul's Men's Club and served as an elder at church. He was a graduate of West Aurora High School, a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce and was an avid golfer. Mr. Barrett has owned and operated Barrett Soft Water in Montgomery since 1952.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Grace M. Barrett of Aurora, with whom he would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on February 15; his two daughters: Patricia (Ralph) Mitchell and Cathleen (Michael) Elliott, both of N. Aurora; six grandchildren: Matthew (Rebecca) Potts of Oswego, Alysha and LaRi Mitchell, Stacie and Tyler Rohlwing and Mackey Elliott all of N. Aurora; two great granddaughters: Julia and Natalie Potts both of Oswego; three brothers: Donald Barrett of Harvard, IL, John Barrett of AZ and Paul (Helen) Barrett of Oswego; three sisters: Ruth Knoke of AZ, Esther (Jim) Spitz and Helen (Ralph) Gabrielson both of Aurora; one uncle: Herb (Martha) Schingoethe of Aurora and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Mr. Barrett will be held on Friday, February 13, 2004 at the Dieterle Memorial Home from 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 14 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Orchard Campus, 85 S. Constitution Drive, Aurora. Pastor Tom Sayre and Pastor Jock Ficken will officiate with interment in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery in Montgomery. Mr. Barrett will lie in state at church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at 10 a.m.
"As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me- the crown of righteousness that the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that great day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his glorious return." II Timothy 4: 6-8.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions in Mr. Barrett's name to the debt retirement fund of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
