Robert D. Buck
Robert D. Buck, 84, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at Rosewood Care Center, Elgin. Robert was born January 9, 1921 in DeKalb, IL, the son of Roy and Grace Wallace Buck. He had lived most of his life in Elgin and was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1939. He married
Marion R. Otte on January 16, 1943, the day before he reported for service in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Robert flew 31 missions over Europe as a navigator of a B-24. Soon after the war, he began a career with Illinois Bell Telephone that spanned over 35 years. After retiring, he worked for the City of Elgin for approximately 10 years.
Like his wife, Marion, Robert was dedicated to the well being of their three sons, James R. (Karen) Buck of Sycamore, John W. (Debbie) Buck of Geneva and Jeffrey W. (Amy) Buck of Santa Clara, CA, all survive him. He cherished his grandchildren, Lisa, Trisha, Evan and Justin Buck and Kathy (Timothy) Beasley. Robert was sustained by his caregiver, Angie Tan until his final day.
He was a 50 year member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Elgin, a 50 year member of American Legion Post 57 of Elgin and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 799 of Elgin and the Elks Lodge 737 of Elgin.
Besides his sons and grandchildren he is survived by his brother, William R (Jean) Buck and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marion on July 30, 2004.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 11 at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, Elgin with Rev. Hannibal Frederich officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Elgin.
Joan C. Jensen
Joan C. Jensen, 72, of Algonquin, formerly of Dundee, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. She was born on September 11, 1932 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was the daughter of Gerard and Gertrude (nee Bronsting) DeLoof. Joan was a resident of the Dundee - Algonquin areas for the past 35 years. She was a former 28 year employee of School District #300, where she was Supervisor of Finance/Treasurer. She retired in 1998. She attended the St. Peter Lutheran Church of Dundee.
She is survived by her children, Susan (Karl) Schumacher of Hampshire and Chris (Geralyn) Jensen of Gilberts; eight grandchildren, Rachel, Jeff, Lauren, Christine and Adam Schumacher, Kyle, Alex and Emma Jensen; her brothers, Rev. Gerard (Verladyne) DeLoof of South Dakota and Kenneth (Marion) DeLoof of Michigan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman D. Jensen on December 28, 2002; a son, David in 1971; a grandson, Jason Schumacher in 1988; and her sister, Norma Herder.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East cemetery in East Dundee. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM in the funeral home. Arthur H. Leverenz
Arthur H. Leverenz, 84, of South Elgin, IL passed away March 2, 2005 after complications from a long-standing respiratory condition. He was born in Holloway, MN on July 9, 1920 to Herman and Amelia Bleich Leverenz.
He graduated from Bensenville H.S. in 1938 and from the Air Force Cadet School and Training in 1944 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Art served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1952 in WWII and the Korean War. As a 1st Lieutenant with the Flying Tigers, he flew 26 Combat Missions, several supply missions, brought in medical personnel to care for POW's behind enemy lines, and many evacuation missions. Arthur witnessed the end of WWII from China. He saw the sky turn an eerie purple at daybreak, later realizing it was the atomic bomb being released at Hiroshima. Art remained active with the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers throughout his life. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad at Union Station in Chicago from 1954 to 1957. For the next 25 years, he worked for Elgin School District U-46, retiring as Director of Operations and Maintenance.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Eadler, whom he married
in 1968; three sons, Robert (Cindy) of Woodstock, IL, Jeffrey (Gail) of Lakewood, IL, and David of Grand Haven, MI. He also had seven grandchildren, Derrick, Daniel, Lauren, Noah, Jonah, Hope and Nicholas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Dorothy Miller, Betty Benson and Ruth Aden.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at 7:00 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with visitation from 4-9:00 PM. Burial with full military honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Elwood, IL, Friday, March 11, 2005 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flying Tigers, 14th Air Force Assn. Museum Fund in memory of Arthur Leverenz.
Raymond S. Vece
Raymond S. Vece, 76, of St. Charles, formerly of Elgin, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2005 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born on August 6, 1928 in Chicago, IL and was the son of Anthony and Julia Vece.
Ray was a Veteran and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an Electrician for 45 years and was with the IBEW Local 134. Ray was a "Jack of all trades" and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.
He was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church of St. Charles. Member of the VFW Post. Member of the American Legion Post #57. Member of the IBEW Local 134.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria, to whom he married
on Nov. 5, 1949; three children, Michael (Amy) Vece of Elgin, IL, Terry (Jack) Mann of Rapid City, SD, Lori Voldberg of Elgin; his daughter-in-law, Josephine Vece of Frederick, CO; nine grandchildren, Brent, Cheryl, Kelly, Ryan, Scott, Casey, Kayla, Zachary and Colton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jon Vece (2001); his brother, Robert Vece.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. in the Hosanna Lutheran Church, St. Charles, IL. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services in the church. Memorials may be made to a charity of ones choice. Lorraine E. Whiteside
Lorraine E. Whiteside, 79, of Elgin, passed away Monday, March 7, 2005 in her home. She was born January 28, 1926 in Elgin, the daughter of James and Gertrude Gossman Schultz.
Lorraine was a graduate of St. Edward High School, class of 1944 and had been a resident of Elgin all of her life. She had been employed by LeeWards in Elgin and Elgin Industries, before retiring.
She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elgin.
Surviving are her two sons, James R. Schultz of Milwaukee, WI and Robert Wiggins of Elgin; one sister, Rosemary Schultz of Elgin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Kenneth, in infancy and her twin brother, Laurence E. Schultz.
Funeral Services will be held 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 10, at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, Elgin. Burial will be private in Mount Hope cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 PM, until the time of services in the funeral home.
Joyce E. Berke
Joyce E. Berke, 72, of East Dundee, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 21, 1932 in Elgin. She was the daughter of Phillip and Etta (nee Moisling) Brockner.
Joyce was a lifelong resident of the area and has lived in Dundee for the past 53 years. She was the 1950-51 "Lady Elgin" for Elgin National Watch Company. Following the death of her husband, she began a career in Real Estate. For many years she was associated with Stark Realty in West Dundee. She was a long time and very active member of the First United Methodist Church of West Dundee.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Donna) Berke of East Dundee, Margo (Don Boe) Berke of Edgerton, WI, Karla Berke of East Dundee, Tom (Lori) Berke of Elgin and Jim (Heidi) Berke of Arlington Heights; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Patrick, David, Cassie, Cory, Candra, Alex and Emily; many nieces, nephews, and countless good and faithful friends, especially her longtime companion, Gene Wells of Carpentersville, also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neal B. Berke on September 26, 1982; a daughter, Paula, in infancy; a son, Robert A. "Bob" Berke on April 17, 2004; and her sister, Verdelle Green.
Family and friends will meet for funeral services on Monday, March 14, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 318 W. Main Street in West Dundee. The Rev. Eun Hye Choi, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the River Valley Memorial Gardens in West Dundee. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-5 PM in the Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee and on Monday in the church from 10 AM, until time of service.

Ronald H. Doty
Ronald H. Doty, 83, ,of Elgin, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born August 28, 1921 in Hampshire, the son of Raymond and Irene (Getzelman) Doty.
Ronald was a 1939 graduate of Hampshire High School. He married
Irene (Kopplin) Madeen on December 8, 1956 in North Plato. They were residents of Elgin for over 40 years.
Mr. Doty was employed by the Ludwig Dairy in Elgin for 34 years, retiring in 1983. He was a longtime member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church of North Plato, serving as church custodian for over ten years, after his retirement. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Senior Bowling League in Elgin.
Survivors are his stepson, Harold L. "Bud" (Anne) Madeen of Parachute, CO; three brothers, William (Caroline) Doty of Genoa, Dean (Marie) Doty of Evansville, WI, and Dale (Evelyn) Doty of Footville, WI; a sister, Rita Bowen of Fort Smith, AR; four step-children, Jeff (Sofia) Madeen, Greg (Carol) Madeen, Eric (Julie) Madeen, Gwyn Madeen; four step-great-grandchildren, Scott Madeen, Zoe Madeen, Rose Simmons, and Hunter "Ron" Madeen; two sisters-in-law, Tea Doty of Huntley and Bernice Jones of Sycamore.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene on April 1, 2002; brothers, Harold, Everett and Ralph "Rusty" Doty; and a sister, Juanita Doty.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Rd., North Plato. Burial will be in the Hampshire Center cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM Tuesday at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire, and prior to services on Wednesday, from 10 to 11 AM at the church.
Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund.

George Schimpf
George Schimpf, 56, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 in Chicago, IL. George was born on January 6, 1949 in Winnigstedt, Germany.
For many years George enjoyed his equestrian career as a professional dressage instructor. George shared his knowledge of horse riding and jumping with many people who held his same passion of the sport. His life was blessed with many good friends whose camaraderie he thoroughly enjoyed. George loved to laugh, tell funny jokes, cook, travel, read books, dine out at various restaurants or just relax with friends. George cherished and loved his dogs Bess, Kea, Mattie and Mo.
George is survived by his sisters, Rose (Edward) Wagner, Agatha (Richard) Shadle; brothers, Joe (Jackie), John (Barbara), Frank (Kathy); several nieces, nephews, aunt and cousins; many friends and special friend John Tanis.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Dr., Aurora, IL 60506 and designated "Three Angels Orphanage- Haiti".
His loving parents, Joseph and Agatha Schimpf, preceded George in death.
At George's request his remains will be cremated. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2005 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pastor Patricia Geiseman officiating.
Emma May Schreiber Whitmore
Emma May Schreiber Whitmore, 95, of Elgin, passed away February 17, 2005 in Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born November 11, 1909 in Hampshire, IL, and was the daughter of William and May Evens.
Emma attended the Elgin Schools, and had worked at the Elgin National Watch Factory for many years. She attended the Grace Methodist Church of Elgin.
Survivors include her sister, Roseanna (Arthur) Izzo of Elgin; her niece, Linda Quindel of Elgin; two great-nephews, Kenneth (Laurie) and Daniel Quindel; two great-great-nephews, Brian and Jessie Quindel; one great-great-niece, Brittany Quindel; her son-in-law, Donald (Mickey) Prindle of North Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Joseph Schreiber; her second husband, John Whitmore; and her daughter, Metta Mae Schreiber Prindle.
Memorial Services will be held on April 9, 2005 at 12:00 Noon in the Grace United Methodist Church, 325 South St., Elgin, IL 60123. Laird Funeral Homes, West Dundee and Elgin are in charge of arrangements.
Thomas J. Balke
Thomas J. Balke, 56, of Algonquin, passed away on Friday, March 11 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He was born July 22, 1948 in Chicago, the son of the late Thomas and Eva (Gray) Balke.
Mr. Balke was employed for the past 16 years at Saint Gobain Plastics in Mundelein. His greatest love in life was his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He also loved fishing and vacationing in Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, Jean A. (Klobucher) Balke; one daughter, Brenda (Jerry) Stasiek of Genoa; one son, Joseph (April) Balke of Algonquin; four grandchildren, Matt and Amanda Crawford of Genoa and Kim and Walter Balke of Algonquin; one sister, Nancy Conrad of Carpentersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father.
Funeral Services, Wednesday, 10 AM in the Miller Funeral Home, 504 West Main Street, West Dundee. Visitation Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
