Malcolm D. Lloyd
Malcolm D. Lloyd, 93, of Gilberts, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Kankakee, IL on February 12, 1912. He was the son of Ernest and Ruth (nee Wilder) Lloyd.
Mr. Lloyd was a 1930 graduate of Elgin High School. He attended Wheaton College and graduated from the University of Illinois. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1942-1945, where he earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer and Pharmacist Mate. He was a former employee of the City of Aurora. He retired in 1974 as the Sanitary District Superintendent.
Mr. Lloyd made physical fitness a very important part of his life. He was an excellent racket and handball player and still played racket ball, until the age of 92. He enjoyed swimming and downhill skiing. He took-up downhill skiing at the age of 65.
He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elgin, where he served as deacon and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Fox Valley Men of Harmony, and the Society for The Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. He was a member of Yesterday's Boys Quartet.
He is survived by his children, Ronald (Pam) Lloyd of Burnsville, MN, Claude (Jan) LLoyd of Gilberts and Allynn (Daniel) Kairis of South Elgin; his grandchildren, Dana Reynolds, Errick Lloyd, Derrick Lloyd, Jim Raap, Joshua Kairis and Bradley Kairis; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Arline Jones; and his brother, John (Donna) Lloyd.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Berniece Becker Lloyd; and two brothers, Kenneth and Alan Lloyd.
Memorial Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 2:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church, 240 Standish St., Elgin. The Rev. Peter Boeve will officiate. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 240 Standish St., Elgin, IL 60123 or the Provena Hospice, 77 N. Airlite, Elgin, IL 60123. The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Lorisz
Evelyn Lorisz, age 76, of Carpentersville, died March 16, 2005.
Survived by sons, David and Steve; daughter, Mary (John) Link; grandmother of John Jr. and Joseph; sister, Pearl Owczarek.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. and two sisters.
Visitation Friday, March 18, 2005 5-9 PM at Community Funeral Home, located on Rt 25, between Rt 68 and 72, East Dundee, (847)426-3474. Mass Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 11:00 AM at St. Monica Church in Carpentersville. Burial at Dundee East cemetery.

Neta Slotowski
Neta Slotowski, 87, of Huntley, Illinois, formerly of Algonquin, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends after a month long illness.
Neta was born February 3, 1918 in a sod house in western Kansas. In 1942, she married Alex Slotowski. She worked as a secretary in District 300 at Eastview School and at the Instructional Materials Center for many years.
In 1985, she was aboard TWA flight 847, which was hijacked in the Middle East. She survived this ordeal, yet didn't give up her love of travel. She continued her travels, including visiting grandchildren in Switzerland, her daughter in California, and further globe-trotting. She was an avid journaler, and wrote many prayers and loving words. One of the most hurtful results of the hijacking was her losing a number of her precious journals.
Neta was active in her church, including being an Associate in the Sinsanawa Dominican Order, as well as an Apostolic volunteer. As a member of the St. Mary's (Huntley) Altar and Rosary Society, Neta served as Treasurer for several years, and was active in the Cursillo movement. Neta was one of the "founding residents" of Green Trees in Huntley.
Surviving are two daughters, Harriet (Dr. James) Davis of Murrieta, CA, and Constance (John) Ryan of Union, IL, two step-daughters, Marie (Fred) Cwienkala of Park Ridge, IL, and Florence (Michael) Bargo of Chicago, IL, a step-son, Gust (Anna) Kozarzewski of Palatine, IL, 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and many close and loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Edna (Jones) Thompson, her husband Alex Slotowski, whom she married in 1942, and who died November 8, 1978, one brother Armin Thompson and a granddaughter, Judith Kozarzewski.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 P.M. Friday, March 18 at Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral and Cremation Services Chapel, 201 S. Main St., Algonquin and on Saturday from 9 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Huntley Rd., Huntley, IL. Revb. Steven Knox will officiate.
Donation in Neta's name to St. Dominic Villa of Sinsanawa Dominicans, 585 County Z, Sinsanaw, WI, 53824 would be greatly appreciated.

Fred Junior Smith
Fred Junior Smith, 76, resident of Elgin since 1940, passed away on March 17, 2005. He was born on March 7, 1929 in Belvidere, IL and was the son of Fred J. and Anna Belle (Wallace) Smith.
Fred was the business manager of I.B.E.W. Local #117 for 28 years. He served on the National Electric Code Committee, National Arbitration Board of the Electrical Industry, National Lineman Apprenticeship Program, National Joint Training Committee for Wiremen and the City of Elgin's Planning and Zoning Board. Also the Electric Commission and served in the School District U-46 School Board as President for 13 years. He was a Veteran and served in the US Army. Fred was an avid woodworker, presenting many of his friends and family members with furniture, bowls, pens, and other items that he crafted out of his love for wood and them.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline "Maggie" Muto; his son, Gregory (Louise) Smith; his sister, Josephine Homuth, both of Elgin; his grandsons, Christopher and Michael; and granddaughter, Jessica.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Fred Jr.; and brother, Jared and William Smith; his sisters, Maria Welstead, Vashti Yerke, and Elvira Kelly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 1:00 PM in the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services, Elgin Chapel, 51 Center St., 60120. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Friday from 3-9:00 PM in the Chapel and on Saturday from 12:30 PM until the time of services. For information, (847)742-2100.

Dorothy L. Storment
Dorothy L. Storment, 62, of Elgin, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. She was born July 26, 1942 in Wayne City, IL, the daughter of Arvil and Doris Payne Shaw. She had been a resident of Elgin since 1968. She was employed by Elgin Molded Plastics in Elgin, before retiring.
She loved to read and make Christian posters. She attended the United Pentacostal Church.
Surviving are two children, Michael G. Storment of Elgin and Lisa G. Storment of Wheaton; one grandson, Jabin Storment; one brother, Larry (Sharon) Shaw of Wayne City, IL; and a niece and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald in 1996; and a half-brother, Robert Dove.
Funeral Services will be private, with burial in River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is in charge of arrangements.

Roy A. Dieterich
Roy A. Dieterich, 84, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on March 15, 2003. He was born in Elgin, IL on September 26, 1918. He served his country in the North Atlantic during World War II as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. He has resided in Arizona full time since 1978 and he has now taken up residency in Heaven with his savior Jesus and his beloved mother, who always prayed that her children would be saved and meet her in Heaven someday.
He is survived by his wife Wanda; daughter Cindy Lee (husband Dave), sons Jerry (wife Eileen) and Scott (wife Lyn); nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Sherman E. Fields
Sherman E. Fields, age 80, of Aurora, passed away peacefully at Mercy Center Hospital Aurora on Monday afternoon, March 17, 2003.
He was born November 28, 1922 in Aurora, IL, the son of Frank and Liberty (Dorion) Fields. Sherman grew up in Aurora and attended local schools, graduating from East Aurora High School with the class of 1940. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country as an aircraft welder in India during World War II. Returning to civilian life in 1945, Sherman worked as a civil engineer with Walter E. Deuchler, Aurora, and later with Advance Construction Co., Hinsdale, IL, Wells Engineering, Geneva, Chicago Pump FMC, Chicago and Walker Process Co., Aurora for many years.
On April 26, 1947, Sherman was united in marriage to Virginia Graffagna in Elgin, IL. They made their home for the next 40 years in Aurora where they were faithful member of the Holy Angels Catholic Church. Following his retirement in 1983, Sherman slowed down and enjoyed his favorite pastime of watching his beloved Cubs on television.
Sherman led a simple but rewarding life devoted to his beloved family. Among his fondest memories was the joy of coaching baseball and the pride he took in attending every game through the years. When it came to goals, Sherman stressed education and was an encouraging father-figure to many neighborhood children. Left to himself, Sherman enjoyed fishing and was an avid upland game sportsman as well.
He is survived by his loving son, "Sherm" (Kelley) Fields and their children Josh and Jamie, all of Sugar Grove, IL.
He joins now his parents, Frank and Liberty and his beloved wife, Virginia who preceded him in death.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Gall Church, Elburn, Thursday, March 20, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. Private cremation interment services will later be held at Mt. Olivet cemetery, Aurora.
Memorials may be made in his name and given to masses at The Church of St. Gall, 100 Shannon St., Elburn, IL 60119 or to the charity of your choice.

Steven M. Schultz
Steven M. Schultz, 29, of Mt. Morris died Monday, March 17, 2003 at Rockford Memorial Hospital due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born June 5, 1973 in Elgin, the son of Steven J. and Maria (Pena) Schultz.
Steve and his family moved to Byron in 1989 from Elgin. Steve first attended Elgin High School but graduated from Byron High School in 1992. He loved to golf and fish.
Survivors include his parents, Steven J. and Maria Schultz of Leaf River; brother, Jonathan of Davis Junction; paternal grandmother, Virginia Blumenstein of Muscoda, WI; maternal grandparents, Jose Pena and Candelaria Ramos both of Elgin; special friend, Deanna Jergens of Oregon; best friend, Roger Markham of St. Charles; several aunts and uncles; and special niece, Sheyanna Schultz.
preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Edward Schultz; an aunt; and an uncle.
Funeral Services will be at 11 AM Friday, March 21, 2003 at the Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. 7th St., Oregon, IL with Captain Thielke, Chaplain of the St. Charles Salvation Army officiating. Burial at Silver Creek cemetery near Mt. Morris.
Visitation from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial Fund established.

Mildred Pamela Spates Sims
Mildred Pamela Spates Sims, 55, of Elgin, IL died Sunday, March 16 at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore, IL. She was born October 5, 1947 to Rev. Leonard and Mildred (Taylor) Spates.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Sims, whom she married on October 31, 1970; a son, Sawnhedrin Sims of Elgin; her daughters, Shimra Sims, Sapria Sims and Shawron Sims of Elgin and five brothers and eight sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Funeral will take place Friday, March 21 at 12 noon at Spates Temple Church of God and Christ with Rev. Leonard Spates, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Bluff City cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the time for the services at noon at the church. Please omit flowers, with memorials to her family. Arrangements were made with Wait Ross Allanson Elgin Chapel.

Leonard V. Bye
Leonard V. Bye, of Elgin, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at Sherman Hospital. He was born on February 15, 1926 in Nebraska and is the son of Orville and Albina Wolesensky Bye.
Leonard served in the Army Air Corp. 7th Air Force, during World War II. He was an active member of First Congregational Church in Elgin and was an active volunteer at PADS.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of Elgin; his two children, Nancy of Elgin and Randall (Angela) of Lake-in-the-Hills; his grandchildren, Christopher (Amy), Megan and their mother, Cheri Bye, Kara, Kaylen, Timika, Sean, and Jamie; his two brothers, Alvin (Ruth) of NE and Donald (Sharon), also of NE.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 21, 2005 at 4:30 PM at First Congregational Church in Elgin.
