Bernard Hodapp

WESTMINSTER, Colo. -- Bernard A. "Bernie" Hodapp, 74, of Westminster, Colo., formerly of Kankakee and LaGrange, died Sunday (Aprill 14, 2002).
Cremation rites were accorded.
Inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Calvary cemetery, Kankakee.
Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hodapp was a retired cattle buyer.
He was born May 21, 1928, in Kankakee, the son of Anthony J. and Beulah Smith Hodapp.
Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Hodapp of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Mary Kaiser of Arvada, Colo.
His twin brother, Armand E. Hodapp, is deceased.
He was a graduate of the University of Illinois in Champaign.

Bernice Cline

IROQUOIS -- Bernice M. Cline, 86, of Iroquois, died today (June 26, 2002) at the home of her granddaughter, Debbie and Jerry Cotter in Iroquois.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home, Sheldon.

Domingo Gomez

ONARGA -- Visitation for Domingo A. Gomez, 70, of Onarga, will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, with a 4 p.m. rosary service at the Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Onarga. Rev. John Balluff will officiate.
Burial will be in the Onarga cemetery.
Mr. Gomez died Sunday (June 23, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
He was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Uhland, Texas, the son of Arturo and Maria Luisa Arredondo Gomez. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margarita Barbosa, whom he married April 14, 1976, in Chicago, of Onarga; six sons, Salvador Gomez and Domingo Gomez, both of Michigan, Jorge Gomez of Gilman, Sergio Gomez of Onarga, Robert Cintora of Houston, Texas, Gabriel Gomez of Michigan; five daughters, Norma Gomez of California, Maria Luisa Gomez of Michigan, Mariza Gomez Avalos of Kankakee, Nancy Sandy Gomez of Onarga, Maria Cintora of Kankakee; and several grandchildren.
One brother is deceased.
He attended the Catholic church.

James Hilgeman

James Hilgeman Jr., 37, of Bradley, died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at his home.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Martinton Church of Christ, where he was a member. Rev. John Coney will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Martinton Church of Christ.
Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 15, 1965, the son of James Sr. and Jeanie Choate Hilgeman.
Surviving besides his parents of Chebanse are four daughters, Reashell Hilgeman of Bradley, Catherine Hilgeman and Brittany Hilgeman, both of Kankakee, Pamela Hilgeman of Chebanse; one brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Teresa Hilgeman of Chebanse; several aunts and uncles; and grandmothers, Leota Hilgeman of Kankakee and Doris Stevens of L'Erable.
Mr. Hilgeman enjoyed martial arts.

Marge Harford

PIPER CITY -- Marge Harford, 87, of Piper City, died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at the Greenbriar HealthCare Center, Piper City.
Arrangements are pending at the Reilly-Redenius Funeral Home, Piper City.

Marie Settles

HERSCHER -- Marie F. Settles, 89, formerly of Herscher, died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at Heritage Manor, Dwight.
Arrangements are pending at the Schreffler Funeral Homes.

Mary Wajtekunas

Mary Wajtekunas, 90, of Bradley, died today (June 26, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.
Arrangements are pending at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.

Robert Garwood

Robert L. Garwood, 50, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
Arrangements are pending at Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel.

Robert Thomas,
computer program analyst

Visitation for Robert G. Thomas, 79, of Kankakee, formerly of Evanston, will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Revs. Craig and Kathy Sweet will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church or to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
He graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology as an electrical engineer. After 15 years in communications, he entered the computer field in its infancy. He retired from Phillips Electronics in 1993 as a computer program analyst.
He was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Evanston, the son of Paul and Lillie Christ Thomas.
Surviving are one sister, Jean V. Thomas of Kankakee; one cousin, Margaret Lukens of Virginia Beach, Va.; and five special friends, including Trudy Dickinson of Kankakee.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in Europe.
He enjoyed arts and crafts and was proficient in ceramics, china painting and jewelry making. He also enjoyed traveling, reading and using his talents to teach art techniques to others.

Roger Bennett

PAXTON -- Roger J. Bennett, 63, of Paxton, and the father of area residents, died Tuesday (June 25, 2002) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. Thursday until the 8 p.m. memorial service at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Paxton. Rev. Chet Travis will officiate.
Burial will be private.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Mr. Bennett worked in management most of his life and was employed by Roper Appliance in Kankakee, Toll Mfg. Co. at Paxton and Gibson City and the France Broom Co. in Paxton.
He was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Chicago, the son of Fred and Ruth West Bennett. His parents are deceased.
He married Valerie Chipman in Kankakee.
Surviving are his wife, the former Aletha Ferguson, whom he married Sept. 21, 1984, in Byesville, Ohio, of Paxton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Kim Bennett of Bourbonnais, Randy and Pat Bennett of Kankakee; one daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Robert Olszewski Jr. of Manteno; 13 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and two brothers, Fred Bennett Jr. of San Jose, Calif. and Charles Bennett of Richton Park.
One brother is deceased.
He was a graduate of Momence High School and attended Illinois State University, Normal.
He was very involved in sports. He was active with the Bradley-Bourbonnais Bears youth football league and youth softball league.
He was a Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed cooking on the grill.

Virginia Kalaydic

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. -- Virginia L. Erwin Hamende Kalaydic, 71, of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., formerly of Kankakee, died Friday (May 17, 2002) at her home.
Burial was in St. Anne cemetery.
She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was raised and attended school in Kankakee.
Her husband, George Kalaydic, died in 1995.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Hamende of Cedar Creek, Texas; and one brother, Gordon Erwin of Fayetteville, N.C.
Two brothers, Ernest and Richard Erwin, are deceased.
Mrs. Kalaydic lived for a number of years in Hammond, Ind., and worked for many years for Szabo Corporation in Chicago before relocating to Florida in 1988.
She was employed as a licensed practical nurse while in Florida, where she attended First United Methodist Church of Port Orange.

Danny Cordes

Services for Danny "Scott" Cordes, 52, of Kankakee, were held June 22 at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee. Rev. Michael Seed officiated.
Mr. Cordes died June 21, 2002.
Inurnment, with military rites by the Kankakee American Legion Post 85, was in All Saints cemetery Chapel, Bourbonnais.

Wayne Coyne

ASHKUM -- Services for Wayne L. Coyne, 54, of Ashkum, were held June 25 at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton.
Mr. Coyne died June 22, 2002.
Burial, with military graveside services, were held in St. Peter's cemetery, Clifton. Pallbearers were Chad Coyne, Marcos Gonzales, Nate McVicker, Doc, Bennie and John Guynn. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Witham and Kenny Steen.

Walter Perry

MANTENO -- Services for Walter J. Perry, 33, of Manteno, were held June 25 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Homes, Manteno. Deacon Pete Henrissey officiated.
Mr. Perry died June 19, 2002.
Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery, Manteno. Pallbearers were Phillip and Terry Perry, Joey Daniels, Wayne Bish, Allen Guziejka, David Roop, Derick Perry and Paul Sprague.
