Sharmen Carter
VALLEY CENTER, Kan. -- Sharmen Edman Carter, 75, of Valley Center, Kan., father of a Gardner resident, died Tuesday (May 21, 2002) in Sedgwick, Kan.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center, Kan., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be in Burrton cemetery, Burrton, Kan.
Memorials may be made to the SCCS Health and Hospice of Derby, Kan.
He was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Galatia, the son of George and Madge Harris Carter.
His wife, the former Dolores Powell, whom he married
June 9, 1948, in El Dorado, is deceased.
Surviving are three sons, Shermen E. Carter of Gardner, Jim Carter of Greeley, Colo., Dennis Carter of Newton, Kan.; one daughter, Mary Pickering of Newton, Kan.; one brother, Luther Carter of Wilmington; one sister, Mary Lathers of Kankakee; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
One son, Carl Carter; and two brothers, James Carter and Russel Carter, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Carter was retired from Elixir.
Sherre Martin
Sherre Patrice Martin, 28, of Kankakee, died Monday (May 20, 2002) at St. James Hospital, Olympia Fields.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Lax Mortuary, Kankakee, and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. William H. Copeland Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
She was the youngest of four siblings, born to Azalea and Jimmie Martin on April 6, 1974 in Kankakee.
She attended the Kankakee Public Schools and was a 1992 graduate of Kankakee High School. She enjoyed basketball and was a cheerleader for the Kankakee Kays as well as for the Eastside Bulldogs.
She was baptized at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church on June 2, 1991.
She was a devoted and loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her children. She was a dynamic person who gave freely to others and who always had a beautiful smile on her face. She enjoyed family gatherings, music and dancing. Her favorite color was red. How blessed we have been and how thankful we are that you have lived among us as a Mom, daughter, niece, auntie and friend.
Ms. Martin was employed at the K-Mart Distribution Center in Manteno.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Marc Eugene Odeneal Jr., and her daughter, Jemiya Shemika Semaj Bates; her mother, Azalea Martin of Kankakee; her father and stepmother, Jimmie and Mary Martin of Kankakee; two brothers, Marc and Carol Terrell of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jimmie Martin Jr. of Kankakee; four sisters, Rosa Martin, Kassandra Martin, Rakeya Smith and Rachel Martin, all of Kankakee; her maternal grandfather, Elisha Redmond of Kankakee; paternal grandparents, Laura and Charlie Smith of Kankakee; five aunts, Sylvia Tate of Columbus, Miss., Lil and Anthony Davis of Aurora, Florence Edwards, Ernestine Waddy and Alberta Martin, all of Kankakee; four uncles, John and Lawana Redmond of Sun River Terrace, Sammy and Annie Brown of Tupelo, Miss., Willie and Beatrice Martin of Columbus, Miss., and Joe Lee and Jimmy Will Martin of Kankakee;

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Beatrice Mayberry Redmond; her paternal grandparents, William and Rachel Harrison-Martin; and her fiance, Marc Eugene Odeneal Sr.
William Testa
CREST HILL -- William A. Testa, 86, of Crest Hill, formerly of Coal City, died Friday (May 17, 2002).
Private services were held.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Esther Sylvester Testa; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Pat Testa, James and Jana Testa; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One grandson, David Testa; and one great-grandson, BeylenTesta, are deceased.
Mr. Testa was a member of the Braidwood Masonic Lodge 704 A.F. & A.M. and the Joliet Moose Lodge 300.
Clara Boudreau
URBANA -- Clara Boudreau, 88, of Urbana, formerly of Kankakee, died Friday (May 17, 2002) at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. service at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Rd., Urbana. Rev. Jeff Stahl will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Olive cemetery in Mayview.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Boudreau ws born Dec. 23, 1913, in Essex, the daughter of Roy W. and Lillie Swartz Gall.
Surviving are her husband, Verle Boudreau, whom she married
June 30, 1938 in Essex, of Urbana; one daughter, Kathleen Fuoss of Urbana; one sister, Ella Mae Fredrick of Essex; and two grandchildren.
Four brothers and one sister, are deceased.
Mrs. Boudreau helped her husband farm.
She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Donna Wolfe
CHEBANSE -- Visitation for Donna M. Wolfe, 67, of Chebanse, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Chebanse.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" charity, in which family members will be participating on June 15 and 16 with the team name "Donna's Wolf Pack."
Mrs. Wolfe died Thursday (May 16, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Aroma Park, the daughter of James and Florence Graves.
Surviving are her husband, Tom Wolfe, whom she married
Nov. 19, 1955 in Kankakee, of Chebanse; one son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Sue Wolfe of Chebanse; two daughters and sons-in-law, Polly and David Demers, and Dawn and Kyle Hansen, all of Kankakee; eight grandchildren, Luke, Hope and Holli Wolfe; Lindsay, Ginny and Jamie Demers; and Michael and Hannah Hansen; one sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Dan Roberts of Clifton; and one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Cheryl Graves of Durango, Colo.
Also very close and dear to her were her sister-in-law and nephew, Phyllis and Bill Bishop; and her best friend, Betty Tatro.
Two brothers, Jim Graves, and Richard Graves; and her parents are deceased.
Donna Wolfe was an important part of the operation of Wolfe Burial Vault Company.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and other collectibles, as well as negotiating the "best" bargain at flea markets.
Eva Emery
Services for Eva Mae Emery, 71, of Black Rock, Ark., formerly of Kankakee, were held Saturday at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family's wishes.
Ms. Emery died Monday (May 13, 2002) in Jonesboro, Ark.
She was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Smithville, Ark., the daughter of Sam and Laura Land Crider.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Janet Cantrell of St. Anne, David and Marty Cantrell of Bourbonnais, Cecil Emery of Black Rock, Ark.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Diane and Elvin Altman and Barbara Kowaluk, all of Bradley; two sisters, Ruth and Ruby, both of Arkansas; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
One great-grandson, Paul Mausehund Jr.; three sisters, Uny, Pearline and Laurine, are deceased.
She enjoyed cooking, bowling and traveling.
Harry Weakley
CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Harry T. Weakley, 75, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Watseka, died Friday (May 17, 2002) at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral.
Arrangements are pending at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.
John Corn
John Raymond Corn, 74, of Kankakee, died Friday (May 17, 2002) at Manorcare Health Services.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the 2 p.m. service at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home in Bloomington. Rev. Ralph Dude will officiate.

Mr. Corn was born July 2, 1927, in Grand Forks, N.D., the son of Rev. Isaac S. and Melora K. Phelps Corn. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara C. and Henry J. Ort of Kankakee; two nieces, Nancy O. and Michael Hogan of Kankakee, Hollace S. and Ronald Bailey of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; four great-nephews, Timothy Swanson of Boston, Mass., Stephen Swanson of Gainsville, Fla., John M. Hogan of Kankakee and Jeremy Bailey of Tampa Fla.; and three great-nieces, Jennifer and Amy Hogan, both of Kankakee, and Heather Parry of Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Corn formerly lived in Bloomington.
He graduated from University High School and Illinois State Normal University. He also graduated from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago.
He lived in Bloomington-Normal from 1935-1955. He then moved to Chicago.
Mr. Corn was retired from the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board and the U.S. Government Social Security Administration in the Chicago offices.
Upon his retirement, he returned to Bloomington. The last year of his life he lived in Kankakee.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Normal.
He enjoyed music, playing the piano for organizations in which he was a member, and he liked to read.
Rodney Phillips
NAPERVILLE -- Rodney B. Phillips, 71, of Naperville, formerly of the Kankakee area, died Thursday (May 16, 2002) at Tabor Hills Health Care Center.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St. in Naperville, where services will be at 10 a.m. Monday.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorials Gardens.

Mr. Phillips was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Centralia, the son of Francis and Dorothy Bostwick Phillips. His parents are deceased.
His wife, Joanne, is deceased.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Dayna and Mike Meyer of Naperville, Carol and Roger Carlson of LaGrange, Jan and John Willett of Crystal Lake; seven grandchildren, Matt, Sara and Ben Meyer, Leigh and Troy Carlson, Jack and Taylor Willett; and one brother, Don Phillips of Lake Havasu, Ariz.
Mr. Phillips was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was retired from General Electric, where he was a chemical engineer, having been able to work with NASA in the Space Program.
He later owned and operated the Shoe Departments at Aldens and Samuels Department Stores in Kankakee.
Rodney will be remembered as a man that loved the great outdoors.

WOODLAND -- Ronald M. Hunt, 61, of Woodland, died Saturday (May 18, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
