Darald L. "Roy" Cowger, 77, of Bourbonnais, died Thursday (Feb. 1, 2001) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Arrangements are pending at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone.
Neal Hamilton, prison guard
CULLOM - Neal "Whitey" Hamilton, 85, of Cullom, died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at Livingston Manor in rural Pontiac.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Cullom, and from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. service Wednesday at United Methodist Church. Revs. Deborah Talbott and Gretchen Stinebaugh will officiate.
Burial with military rites will be in West Lawn cemetery, Cullom.
Memorials may be made to Cullom United Methodist Church, where he was a member, or to OSF Franciscan Hospice of Central Illinois.
Mr. Hamilton was the owner and mechanic of Hamilton Standard Service in Cullom for 25 years. He was later employed as a guard at the Pontiac Correctional Center for 20 years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Hamilton was born June 25, 1915 in Sheller, Jefferson Co., the son of Lawrence and Edith Nowland Hamilton.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Kathleen Magee, whom he married
Feb. 18, 1939, in Cullom; five daughters, Sharon (Dick) Turner of Cullom, Jean (Gerald) Jacobs of Chandler, Ariz., Joan (Sam) Terrell of Hoopeston, Kathy Dyrby of Cabery, and Cindy Hamilton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Gary (Barbara) Hamilton of Kempton, and Mark (Jane) Hamilton of Houston, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
One brother, Loren Hamilton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, are deceased.
He was a member of Skinner-Trost American Legion Post 122 in Cullom, the Moose Lodge in Pontiac, and had been a member of the Cullom Fire Department.
He had been a hunter, raising his own hunting dogs. In retirement he enjoyed golf.
Lucille Phillips
Visitation for Lucille M. Phillips, 76, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Bradley Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Joliet.
Mrs. Phillips died Friday (April 6, 2001) at Embassy Care Nursing Home.
Mrs. Phillips was a supervisor at Kankakee County Training Center in Bradley for many years.
Mrs. Phillips was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Kankakee, the daughter of Viateur and Yvonne Dionne Hebert.
Her first husband, Laverne Curtis, died in 1965.
Her second husband, Gerald Phillips, died in 1987.
Surviving are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Lester and Mary Curtis of Texas, Leonard Curtis of Limestone, and Larry Curtis of Plainfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and James Watson of Otto Township; one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Robert Dion of Limestone; one brother and sister-in- law, Camille and Pauline Hebert of Kankakee; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six nephews and four nieces; and a special friend, Ralph Mazza.
Her stepfather, Kenneth Boyd; and two sisters, Rita Madden, and Yvonne Boyd, are deceased.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She collected elephant knick knacks, enjoyed reading, traveling, knitting and doing crossword puzzles.
Donald Schoon
ASHKUM - Donald L. Schoon, 47, of Ashkum, died today (April 9, 2001) at Riverside Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Arrangements are pending at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.
Violet Mackey, worked at county clerk's office 35 years
Visitation for Violet M. Mackey, 91, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kankakee.
Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she was a member, Bishop McNamara, or Sts. Patrick and Teresa Grade School.
Mrs. Mackey died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at Butterfield Court.
Mrs. Mackey retired from the Kankakee County clerk's office after 35 years, where she was a chief deputy.
She was born Jan. 21, 1910, in Momence, the daughter of William J. and Sophia C. Kufemeyer Riley.
Her husband, Philip W. Mackey, whom she married
May 20, 1939, at St. Patrick Church in Kankakee, died in 1969.
Surviving are one son, Donald W. Mackey of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; one daughter and son-in- law, Sandra L. and Robert Mackey-LaPlant of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and one grandson, Philip Mackey.
One brother, Leslie Riley, is deceased.
She attended Gallagher Business College.
She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women at St. Patrick Church.
Paul Walters, trucker, WWII vet
ONARGA - Visitation for Paul "Pete" Walters, 76, of Onarga, will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Neil Larimore will officiate.
Burial will be in Lyman Township cemetery, Roberts.
Mr. Walters died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at his home.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Walters was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was a truck driver for Weber Trucking, Mike Lee, Bork Nurseries and Gray Materials.
He was born May 8, 1924, in Roberts, the son of Howard and Olive Edgel Walters. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Wilma Walters, whom he married
May 18, 1968, in Onarga; one stepson, Kevin Gray of Onarga; one daughter, Diana Walters of Wash.; three stepdaughters, Stacey Gray of Gilman, Kelly Schmidt of Buckley, and Karry Gray of Watseka; two sisters, Leona Kitzman of Roberts, and Mary Dipple of Buckley; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Two brothers are deceased.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Roberts and the Teamsters Union.
He enjoyed his animals.
William Brooks
REDDICK - Visitation for William J. Brooks, 72, of Reddick, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Richard Kostelz will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Dwight.

Mr. Brooks died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
He was born July 23, 1928, in Chebanse, the son of Bruck and Helen Hemenover Brooks.
Surviving are his wife, the former Rosemary Riordan, whom he married
Oct. 9, 1954, in Reddick; two daughters, Mary Lynn (George) Karpen of Elgin, and Barbara (Thomas) Elsey of Westchester; one brother, Robert (Norma) Brooks of Reddick; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Brooks was a self-employed carpenter.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Constance Gallois
Constance E. Gallois, 79, of Kankakee, died Saturday (April 7, 2001) at Riverside Medical Center.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hertz-Thoma Chapel in Kankakee.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Joseph Tremonti will officiate.
Memorials may be made for Masses or to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Gallois retired in 1987 from Mortels, after 45 years, where she was a foreman.
Mrs. Gallois was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Kankakee, the daughter of Edward and Lillian Chartier Spenard.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry M. Gallois of Lafayette, Ind., and Don and Susan Gallois of Bourbonnais; one sister, Ida Pflanz of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Helen Spenard of Fischer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Wanda Spenard of Joliet; and Ralph and Rose Spenard of Bradley; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
One son, Ronald; five brothers, Arthur, Paul, Ivan, Albert and Roy Spenard, are deceased.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and volunteered many hours at St. Mary's and the Thrift Shop.
She enjoyed caring of people.
William Ward, owned trucking firm, WWII vet
WILMINGTON - William H. Ward, 89, of Wilmington, died Sunday (April 8, 2001) at Silver Cross Medical Center in Joliet.
Visitation will be from noon until the 2 p.m. service Wednesday at Reeves Funeral Home, Wilmington. Rev. Mark Strothman will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Wilmington.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington.
He was retired from UniRoyal after 22 years, and was also co-owner of Ward Bros. Trucking Company.
Mr. Ward was born May 13, 1911, the son of Arthur and Mary Dalziel Ward.
His wife, Dorothy, died in 1996.
Surviving are one sister-in- law, Ruth Strong of Manteno; two cousins, Scottie Dalzier and Dorothy Ruetz, both of Wilmington; one niece, Carlene Lydy of Oxford, Ohio; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
Three brothers; and three sisters, are deceased.
Mr. Ward was a veteran of World War II.
Eleanor Dryer
WILMINGTON - Eleanor Dryer, 75, of Wilmington, died Wednesday (March 28, 2001) in Mesa, Ariz.
A memorial service was held in Mesa, Ariz.
There will be a memorial service held in Wilmington at a later date.
Mrs. Dryer was born March 31, 1935, in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Louise Lynch. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Verle Dryer, whom she married
in 1945 at the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington.; three daughters, Sue (Gene) Latimer, and Debbie (Doug) Brown, all of Wilmington, and Nancy (Richard) Klink of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one son Robert (Cathy) Dryer of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Two brothers; one grandchild; and her adoptive parents, George and Ray Banker, are deceased.
