Ruth Moore
MOMENCE -- Ruth Edith Moore, 87, of Bourbonnais, died Thursday (May 16, 2002) at Momence Meadows Nursing Center.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
She will lie in state from 10 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. service at College Church of the Nazarene, Bourbonnais. Dr. John Bowling and Rev. Luther Watson will officiate.
A memorial/scholarship fund at Olivet Nazarene University will be set up in her memory.
She was born Oct. 23, 1914 in Lynn Haven, Bay County, Fla., the daughter of William Washington Haynes and Elizabeth (Lamons) Haynes.
Her husband, Everett W. Moore Sr., whom she married
May 13, 1944, at John Fletcher College, is deceased.
She graduated at the top of her class at Oskaloosa High School. Before attending college, Ruth taught in a one-room school house in Eddyville from 1934-1935 and then at Deep River from 1935-1937. Her majors at John Fletcher College were English and Home Economics. Upon graduation, she took teaching positions in Iowa County Schools at Quimby from 1941-1943 and then at Farsons from 1943-1944.
Mrs. Moore worked as a librarian at Iowa University. Upon Everett's completion of his degree in 1952, they moved to McPhearson, Kansas. After moving to Bourbonnais, she worked several jobs at Olivet Nazarene University including the registrar's office and library. The couple soon became involved at College Church of the Nazarene and where they taught a Sunday School class.
In 1965, she was hired as a professor of English at Olivet Nazarene College. For the following 15 years, Ruth enjoyed the ability her position gave her in molding the lives of young students and preparing them for the ministry. She was well-known for aiding deficient students and being responsible for their conquering English. Some of Ruth's fondest memories of teaching were visits from prior students. Ruth retired from her loved profession in 1980, and although she discontinued teaching, she was often found tutoring students and offering her services whenever needed. Community service, church duties and care taking of her sister-in-law became her daily duties.
Thane and Dawn, Ruth's grandchildren, cared for her until her admission to Momence Meadows Nursing Home.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Woodie and Shirley Moore of Effingham, Steve and Tina Moore of Novi, Mich; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Gary Smith of Temple Hill; six grandchildren, Thane and Dawn Moore and son Ethan of Kankakee, Todd and Karen Moore and twins Khaunar and Trenton of Bradley, Tracy and Nathan Stults of Kansas City, Mo., and Amber, Ashley and Allyse Moore of Novi, Mich.; and one sister, Eve Davis of Escalon, Calif.;
One brother, Arnold Haynes; four sisters, Elsie, Selma, Lee and Betty, are deceased.
Lucille Hadders
Services for Lucille Pearl Hadders, 75, of Kankakee, were held May 16 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kankakee. Rev. Curtis Boyer officiated.
Mrs. Hadders died May 11, 2002.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were James, Brian and Jacob Leroy, Henry Hadders, Darrell Denault, Gene Glenn, James Schnurr and Edward Maisonneuve.
Eva Emery
Services for Eva Mae Emery, 71, of Black Rock, Ark., formerly of Kankakee, were held May 18 at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Ms. Emery died May 13, 2002.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Brandon and John Cantrell, Stanley Smallwood, Paul Mausehund, Kori and Shane Cyrier.
Betty Born
COAL CITY -- Betty R. Born, 79, of Coal City, died Thursday (May 16, 2002) at the Walnut Grove Health Care Center, Morris, after a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday until the 10 a.m. services at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City. Rev. Richard Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Braceville-Gardner cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Spivey, Kris Born, David Holloway, Greg and Alan Lyons and Ashley Born.
Memorials may be made to New Hope Presbyterian Church.

She was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Coal City, the daughter of John B. and Elizabeth Thornton Ross.
Surviving are her husband, John Born, whom she married
Oct. 21, 1945, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, Coal City; one daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Bill Spivey of Coal City; one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Diane Born of Coal City; three grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Henry Lyons of Coal City; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was a 1940 graduate of Coal City High School.
After high school she was employed at the Atlas Wallpaper Mill in Coal City and during World War II she worked at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant.
Mrs. Born was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and was involved in various church women's organizations, serving as chairman on several occasions. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School and was referred to as "The Camp Director."
She was a charter member of the Coal City American Legion Auxiliary and a former board member of the Grundy County Chapter of the Red Cross.
She enjoyed planning picnics, family get togethers and serving on many community organizations. She was well known for her baking.
Deanna Beattie
MANTENO -- Deanna L. Beattie, 51, of Manteno, died Wednesday (May 15, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Brown Funeral Home, Manteno, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Aug. 12, 1940, in Evergreen Park, the daughter of David and Bonnie McGowen Todd. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Hugh Beattie, whom she married
July 30, 1966, in Riverdale, of Manteno; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jeff and Patricia Beattie of Sacramento, Calif., Todd Beattie of Mountain View, Calif.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Tom Wolf of Elgin, Melissa and Steve Bankes of Columbus, Ohio, Liz and Robert Padilla of Windsor, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
She enjoyed playing bingo.
Donna Wolfe
CHEBANSE -- Donna M. Wolfe, 67, of Chebanse, died Thursday (May 16, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee, after a lengthy illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home, Clifton.
Eva Emery
Visitation for Eva Mae Emery, 71, of Black Rock, Ark., formerly of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Ms. Emery died Monday (May 13, 2002) in Jonesboro, Ark.
She was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Smithville, Ark., the daughter of Sam and Laura Land Crider.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Janet Cantrell of St. Anne, David and Marty Cantrell of Bourbonnais, Cecil Emery of Black Rock, Ark.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Diane and Elvin Altman and Barbara Kowaluk, all of Bradley; two sisters, Ruth and Ruby, both of Arkansas; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
One grandson, Paul Mausehund Jr.; three sisters, Uny, Pearline and Laurine, are deceased.
She enjoyed cooking, bowling and traveling.
Jewell Grothaus
Services for Jewell V. Grothaus, 88, of Bourbonnais, were held May 16 at Kelly Prayer Chapel on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University.
Mrs. Grothaus died May 12, 2002.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. Gerald Anderson, Ken Rueff, John Hammons, Joe Noble, John Latham and Darel Grothaus.

Robert Eugene Link
PIPER CITY -- Graveside services for Robert Eugene Link, 79, of Piper City, were held May 15 at Brenton cemetery, Piper City. Rev. Jan Miller officiated. Pallbearers were Francis Bargmann, Gery Brown, Andrew Link, Charles Kerchenfaut, Charles Kinkade and Mark Penicook.
Mr. Link died May 12, 2002.
Glenice Jones
WILMINGTON -- Glenice M. Jones, 81, of Wilmington, died Wednesday (May 15, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Freitag Funeral Home, Wilmington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Wesley cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Ritchey United Methodist Church.
She was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Joliet, the daughter of Harry and Theresia Bever Griffith.
Her husband, Emery P. Jones, died in 1991.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Bill Kerr of Wilmington, Paula and Kevin Baldwin of Bourbonnais; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed gardening.
Joseph A. Kijewski
PEOTONE -- Joseph A. Kijewski, 81, of Peotone, formerly of West Pullman, died Thursday (May 16, 2002) at ManorCare Health Services, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Peotone, where he was a member. Rev. Michael Ginter will officiate.
Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Kijewski, Leo Bak, Danny Butka, Frank Jani, Richard Fergle and Richard Kijewski.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund or for Masses.
He was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Chicago, the son of Joseph and Stephanie Maryanski Kijewski.
Surviving are his wife, the former Millie Domagala, whom he married
Sept. 11, 1971, in Chicago, of Peotone; one brother-in-law, Walter Domagala of Peotone; one sister-in-law, Luba Kijewski of Tinley Park; and nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sr. M. Rosaria CSFN, Joan and Stephen Wysocki, Rose and Stanley Bak; and three brothers and one sister-in-law, Leo Kijewski, Wenceslaus and Anna Kijewski and Simon Kijewski, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and a lifetime member of the Frankfort VFW.
Mr. Kijewski had been an inspector at International Harvester Co. at West Pullman for 35 years, retiring in 1974.
Leslie Conn
Visitation for Leslie V. Conn, 81, of Hot Springs, Ark., formerly of Onarga, will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Onarga United Methodist Church. Rev. Charles Shelquist will officiate.
Burial, with military graveside rites by the Onarga American Legion, will be in the Onarga cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Onarga United Methodist Church.
Mr. Conn died Wednesday (May 15, 2002) at the National Park Medical Center, Hot Springs.
He was born June 27, 1920, in Onarga, the son of Leon and Ethel Daugharthy Conn.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mildred Wilson, whom he married
June 23, 1946, of Hot Springs; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. Conn and Cynthia Smith of Lorton, Va.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marjorie L. O'Connor of Chattanooga, Tenn., Sheila and John Pletcher of Stoughton, Wis.; his stepmother, Bessie Conn of Onarga; one brother, Ronald W. Conn of Onarga; three sisters, Eloise Fisher of Colorado Springs, Colo., Reta Benson of Thawville, Doris Jones of Springfield; and seven grandchildren.
One infant brother is deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.
Mr. Conn was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs, where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
