BRAIDWOOD -- Keith Pope, 55, of Braidwood, died Thursday (May 2, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. services at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel. Rev. Oren Banks will officiate.
Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner cemetery, Braceville. Pallbearers will be Dennis Lenzie, Randy Passini, Chuck Shelby, Roger Strohm, Glen Huston and Jack Harvey. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Decker and Charles Bumgardner.
Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born March 16, 1947, in Morris, the son of Alfred Sr. and Hazel Jones Pope. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Donald and Brenda Pope of Seminole, Fla., Dale and Peggy Pope of St. Petersburg, Fla., Gene Pope of Braceville, Alan Pope of Litchfield; two sisters, Gloria Lockwood of Millington, Dianne Seybert of Wilmington; several nieces and nephews; one great-niece and one great-nephew.
Two brothers, Tom Pope and Alfred Pope Jr.; and one sister, Velda Brown, are deceased.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Pope was a truck driver. He had been employed at Daniels Auto Supply in Braceville for several years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Braceville.
He enjoyed fishing and watching stock car and NASCAR racing.
Margaret Swartz
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. -- Margaret E. Swartz, 82, of Hendersonville, N.C., formerly of Kankakee, died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) at Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital, Hendersonville.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
She was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Reddick, the daughter of Arthur and Mayme Jenkins Schultz.
Her husband, Harry H. Swartz, died in 1990.
Surviving are one son-in-law, Russell R. Montress of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Juanita Montress; one sister, Arlene Wilking; and one brother, Elton Schultz, are deceased.
She had lived in Kankakee for many years before moving to Ocala, Fla. in 1980, then to Maggie Valley, N.C. and to Hendersonville in 1983.
Mary Rundquist

GRANT PARK -- A memorial service for Mary Lou Rundquist, 63, of Grant Park, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Grant Park, where she was a member. Rev. Beverly Zell will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grant Park United Church of Christ or Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
Hub Funeral Chapel, Grant Park, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rundquist died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) at her home.
Mrs. Rundquist taught elementary grades in the Flossmoor and Grant Park school systems. In 1974 she became the first elected woman to the Grant Park School Board.
She was the owner of the Owl's Nest studio. Celebrating over 30 years of painting, she worked for Bob White Enterprises painting tiles and sinks as well as other custom painting around the country.
She was born Jan. 12, 1939, in Dolton, the daughter of Marion and John Town. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband Ronald Rundquist, whom she married
Dec. 17, 1960, in Dolton, of Grant Park; and two daughters, Jean Rundquist of Hillsborough, N.C., and Leisa Rundquist of Durham, N.C.
She was a graduate of Illinois State University.
She was a member of the International Porcelain Artists and Teachers Inc, Porcelain Art Teachers of Illinois and Kankakee Valley Porcelain Artists.
She enjoyed watercolor painting and gardening in which she attained a Master Gardener Certificate from the University of Illinois Master Gardener Program.
Zella Hurt
GILMAN -- Zella A. Hurt, 93, of Gilman, died Wednesday (May 1, 2002) at the Gilman Nursing Pavilion.
At her request there will be no visitation.
Private graveside rites will be held Saturday in the Gilman cemetery. Rev. Jim Harkins will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Nov. 14, 1908, in Marrowbone, Ky., the daughter of Virgel Roge and Hessie Watson Knuckles Hurt.
Her husband, R. Denver, whom she married
Jan. 16, 1934, in Glasgow, Ky., died March 28, 1984.
Surviviing are four sons, Eliel Edward Hurt of Bowling Green, Ky., Arnold Marshall Hurt and Philip Robert Hurt, both of Gilman, Charles Garyon Hurt of Crescent City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clara Anderson and Opal Martin, both of Marrowbone, Ky.
One sister Eula Huff is deceased.
She moved to Illinois from Kentucky in 1940 and was a member of the Marrowbone Baptist Church.
Billie LaFine
Visitation for Billie J. "Jean" LaFine, 71, of Kankakee, will be from 2 p.m. today until the 6 p.m. service at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Kankakee.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mrs. LaFine died Thursday (April 25, 2002) at Manorcare Health Services.
She was born Sept. 20, 1930 in Kankakee, the daughter of William and Anna Serve Goodrich.
Her husband, Kenneth LaFine Sr., whom she married
Sept. 20, 1948 at St. Rose Church, died Dec. 15, 1989.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kenneth LaFine Jr., Alan and Amy LaFine, all of Kankakee; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. LaFine retired from Kankakee Roper Repair Parts. Prior to that she had worked at Simoniz.
She attended Mass at St. Mary's Hospital Chapel.
Bob Maddle
BELFAST, Tenn. -- Bob Maddle, 61, of Belfast, Tenn., formerly of the Kankakee area, died Friday (April 26, 2002) in Lewisburg, Tenn.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. today at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, Tenn., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. James Sullivan will officiate.
Burial will be in Round Hill cemetery in Bellfast Community of Marshall County.
Mr. Maddle was born in Vic, Va., the son of Birtle and Elsa Mae McElay Maddle. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, Paula Maddle of Belfast, Tenn.; one son, Robert Maddle Jr. of Clarksville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Rick Slaughter of Austin, Texas, Jeff Slaughter of St. Charles, Mo.; two sisters, Jewell McBride of Painesville, Ohio, Ann Sullivan of Hattiesburg, Miss.; one brother, James Maddle of Burleson, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Maddle was a retired painter and a member of the Baptist Church.
Christina Mezo
ST. ANNE -- Christina Sunday Leigh Guzman Mezo, infant daughter of Jake and Laura Guzman Mezo of St. Anne, died at birth Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at the University of Chicago.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. Tuesday until the 9 p.m. service at Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors, Kankakee.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are one sister, Laticia Guzman Mezo at home; one brother, Caleb Mezo at home; maternal grandparents, Dean and Cynthia Rapier of St. Anne, Orlando and Anna Guzman of Chicago; maternal great-grandparents, Marge Myles of Wisconsin, Esueblo and Ester Guzman; paternal grandparents, Michael and Sandy Mezo of Chebanse; paternal great-grandmother, JoAnn Mezo of Bradley; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Elman LaRoche
Elman "Red" J. LaRoche, 89, of Kankakee, died Saturday (April 27, 2002) at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Kankakee.
Arrangements are by the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
James Cantrell
WILMINGTON -- James "Jamie" Cantrell, 46, of Wilmington, died Friday (April 27, 2002) at his home.

Private services and burial will be held.

Mr. Cantrell was born July 25, 1955, in Jonesboro, the son of Bobby and Alverna Cantrell. His mother is deceased.
Surviving are his fiancee, Patricia Patmore of Wilmington; his father and stepmother, Bobby and Linda Cantrell of Pana; one brother, Bobby A. Cantrell of Vandalia; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Darlene and Bill Reynolds, Christine and Bob Neal, Tabitha Cantrell, and Amanda Cantrell, all of Pana; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Cantrell was a former employee of Personal Products Co., Fibrotech Co. of Wilmington, and J&K; Landscaping of Wilmington.
Jerry Ryan
McHENRY -- Jerry D. Ryan, 71, of McHenry, and father of a Manteno resident, died Thursday (April 25, 2002) at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive at Bull Valley Road in McHenry, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Revs. John Spangler and Aden Loest will co-officiate.
Interment will be private.

Mr. Ryan was born April 21, 1931 in Chicago, the son of Jeremiah and Lillian Schmidt Ryan. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lois Lynn, whom he married
Sept. 18, 1955 in Barrington, of McHenry; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Wesley McReynolds of McHenry, Brenda and Dan Jacobs of Manteno, Judy and Bill Sizemore of Johnsburg; five grandchildren, Nicole and Ryan McReynolds, Marissa and Jared Jacobs, and Joshua Sizemore; one brother, Robert Ryan of Clearwater, Fla.; and many friends.
Mr. Ryan was previously employed by Canteen Vending in Hoffman Estates and by Baxter and Woodman in Ridgefield.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Community of Faith Church in Spring Grove and was a Sunday School teacher, a Lutheran Ranger, a youth group leader and Evangelist.
He had belonged to the Lake Region Sports Car Club, and enjoyed woodworking, camping and being with his family.
John Mahoney
John T. "Jay" Mahoney, 48, of Crystal Lake, died Tuesday (April 23, 2002).
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

He was born Jan. 5, 1954, in Chicago, the son of John and Olivia Reid Mahoney. His father is deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Maryann Nowak, whom he married
May 29, 1983, in Chicago Heights; two sons, Jason Mahoney and Brad Mahoney, both of Crystal Lake; one daughter, Stephanie Mahoney of Crystal Lake; his mother, Olivia Reid Mahoney-Waggoner of Bourbonnais; one sister and brother-in-law, Olivia and Vasile Bouleanu of Skokie; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Teresa Mahoney of Kankakee; and eight nieces and nephews.
He attended St. Joseph Grade School in Bradley and was a 1973 graduate of Kankakee Eastridge High School.
Mr. Mahoney had worked for Air Liance two years as a shipping-warehouse supervisor.
He was a member of the Catholic church.
His hobbies included being a rock and roll drummer.
