Howard Miller
DANFORTH -- Services for Howard Elmer Miller, 64, of Danforth, were held April 26 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Danforth. Rev. James Gerth officiated.
Mr. Miller died April 23, 2002.
Burial, with military rites by the Danforth American Legion Post, was in Danforth cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg and Steve Miller, Tom Martin, Barry Anderson, Chuck Classen, Dennis Conrad, Terrel Gore and Steve Kirchner. Honorary pallbearers were Werner Frey, Mark Guidry, Ron Howe, Shane Sellars and Ryland Schriefer.
Ruth Skates
ONARGA -- Services for Ruth V. Skates, 90, of Onarga, were held April 29 at the Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga. Rev. Charles Shelquist officiated.
Mrs. Skates died April 25, 2002.
Burial was in Onarga cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael and Karl Johnson, Douglas, Robert and Kevin Skates and Trent Gillette.
Elizabeth Griesmeyer
MOMENCE -- Elizabeth R. "Betty" Griesmeyer died Sunday (April 21, 2002) at Momence Meadows Nursing Center after a long illness.
A memorial Eucharist will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2nd and Locust St., Momence. A luncheon will follow.

The Cremation Society of Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Walter J. and Cathy J. Griesmeyer of Momence; and several nieces and nephews in New Jersey.
She was active in the church Altar Guild.
She enjoyed knitting.
Harvey Lynn

GENESEO -- Harvey A. Lynn, 73, of Geneseo, formerly of Coal City, died Tuesday (April 9, 2002).
Services were held April 15 at the First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo. Rev. David Esche officiated.
Burial, with military rites, was in the National cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo, where he was a member and served as a deacon and elder.
Mr. Lynn worked as an engineer at Ordnance Ammunition Command in Joliet until transferring to the Rock Island Arsenal in 1973. He retired in 1989 after 37 years of service to the federal government.
He served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lt. Col. from the Army Reserves. He was a life member of the Reserve Officer Association and served as state treasurer for many years.
He was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Ray and Carrie Lewison Lynn.
Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Vigliocco, whom he married
Dec. 26, 1954, in Coal City; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Joseph Smazal of Bettendorf, Iowa; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Judy Lynn of Olathe, Kan.; seven grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Vivian Lynn of Lake Park, Iowa.
He was a 1946 graduate of Sioux City Central High School and a graduate of Iowa State University in Ames, where he was commissioned in the ROTC program.
He was vice president of Hi-12 group in Bonita Springs, Fla. and a member of Geneseo Stewart Lodge 92 and Kaaba Shrine in Davenport, Iowa.
Howard Elmer Miller
DANFORTH -- Howard Elmer Miller, 64, of Danforth, died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, and from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the 10:30 a.m. services at St. John's Lutheran Church, Danforth. Pastor James Gerth will officiate.
Burial will be in the Danforth cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Prairieview Lutheran Home or to the First National Bank of Gilman, in care of Howard Miller Athletic Scholarship Award. This award will be given to an Iroquois West High School senior upon graduation.
Mr. Miller graduated from Gilman High School in 1956. In 1954 he was voted to the WIL-RO-KEE football conference team in the End position. He enjoyed all sports and was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the St. Louis Cardinals. He owned a softball team in the '80s and thoroughbred horses for several years in the '90s. This was an enjoyable time for all of his family.
After serving in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 he became a journeyman roofer. He was the business agent for Local No. 157 in Kankakee for several years before starting his own roofing company.
Mr. Miller was born Jan. 11, 1938, in Paxton, the son of Howard Dale and Gladys Lyons Miller. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Decker Miller, whom he married
June 22, 1957, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Danforth; one son and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Kathyann Miller of Naperville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Dr. Gregg Rose of Mahomet, Karyn and Thomas Lisowski of Westchester; nine grandchildren, Katelyn, Robert, Lucas, Matthew, Kelsey, Timothy, Michael, Kristyn and Zachary; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry James and Ruth Miller of Herscher, Jerry and Diane Phillips of California; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Phyllis and Franklin Morris of Missouri, Lola Barney of Gilman; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister, Lois; and his parents-in-law, Delmar and Ella Decker, are deceased.
He was a devoted husband, father and Papa who knew he was truly blessed.
Marguerite M. "Peg" Anderson
Visitation for Marguerite M. "Peg" Anderson, 85, of Bradley, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley, where she was a member.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.

Mrs. Anderson died Wednesday (April 24, 2002) at Merkle-Knipprath Nursing Home, Clifton.
She was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Streator, the daughter of Patrick and Mae Barron Cotter. Her parents are deceased.
Her husband, Floyd M. Anderson, whom she married
June 26, 1937, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kankakee, died June 28, 1996.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Rita Anderson of Monticello, Ind.; one daughter, Sheryl Hamilton of Bradley; one sister, Doreen Gaginer of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Winona Cotter of Loudon, Tenn., John and Audrey Cotter of Kankakee; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
One brother, Paul Cotter; and four sisters, Verna Ponikvar, Patricia Drassler, Monica Mackin and Helen Jason, are deceased.
Mrs. Anderson was a volunteer at Provena St. Mary's Hospital and a homemaker.
She enjoyed shopping, sewing, travel, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary Kolodziej
Visitation for Mary Alice Kolodziej, 77, of Kankakee, will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday, with a 6 p.m. wake service, at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where she was a member for over 40 years. Rev. Richard Jacklin will officiate.
Burial will be in All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais.

Mrs. Kolodziej died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at her home.
She was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Aurora, the daughter of Joseph and Kathrine Mackensworth.
Her husband, Bruno J. Kolodziej, whom she married
July 1, 1944, in Harvey, died in 1995.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and David Cotton of Kankakee; one grandchild, Randy and Lea Cotton of Bradley; and two great-grandchildren, Blair and Blain Cotton.
Mrs. Kolodziej had worked at Manteno State Hospital and for the Kankakee School District between 1978 and 1995.
She was a past member of the Women of the Moose and the Kankakee Sportsman Club.
She enjoyed bingo, word puzzles and music.
Robert Schweppe

Robert W. Schweppe, 65, of Kankakee, formerly of Grant Park, died Wednesday (April 24, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
There will be no visitation or services.
Donation of his remains will be given to the Anatomical Gift Association.
Mr. Schweppe was an electrician for Leo's Electric and then for Charles F. L'Hommedieu, retiring in 1994.
Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Feb. 11, 1937, in Grant Park, the son of Fred and Lydia Hartman Schweppe. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Wilbert Lietz of Grant Park; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Donna Schweppe of Grant Park; one brother-in-law, Sidney Marshall of Lowell, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Four sisters, Ruth Pettigrew, Caroline Middleton, Marion Harrell and Lydia Marshall, are deceased.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sollitt.

PEOTONE -- Ruth I. Holzaepfel, 74, of Peotone, died today (April 25, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Friday at Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Michael Heggen will officiate.
Burial will be in the Peotone cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church of Park Forest, where she was a member.
She was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Stuttgart, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alt.
Surviving are her husband, Hugo Holzaepfel, whom she married
Aug. 12, 1950, in Germany, of Peotone; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Jill Holzaepfel of Peotone, Eric and Carol Holzaepfel of Grant Park; one daughter, Birgit McDonald of Bolingbrook; and nine grandchildren.
Verdebelle Brouillette
Verdebelle Raboin Brouillette, 84, a 65-year resident of Kankakee, died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) in her home, surrounded by family.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kankakee.
Entombment will be in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum in Kankakee.
She was born July 3, 1917 in Ashkum and was the second child of E.A. Raboin and Clara Lemenager Raboin. She was a graduate of St. Anne High School.
She married
Mailloux Brouillette on Oct. 17, 1935. He died Oct. 13, 1994. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Raboin; her sister, Lucille Giseburt; one grandson, Bruce Turley; and one great-grandchild.
Surviving are her lifelong friend, her sister, Martha Jones (Kenneth) of Kankakee. Other surviving members of her family include three daughters, Lois Manifold of Corpus Christi, Texas, Joan Nichols of West Lafayette, Ind., Connie Brouillette (John Van Altena) of Milton, Wis. Eight grandchildren also survive: William and Babette Turley, Lan, Darin, Troy and Todd Nichols and Katie and Gina Van Altena; seven great-grandchildren; and two close friends, Rita and Sondra.
Before retirement, Mrs. Brouilette worked at the Kankakee County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Her interests and hobbies were wide and included fishing, gardening, bowling, playing bridge, cooking, traveling and reading. She especially enjoyed her travels to the holy shrines in Europe, involvement in the Prayer Group at the Love Store in Kankakee, and participation in Adoration at St. Patrick's Church in Kankakee. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to the American Cancer Society.
