Michael Foote

BRAIDWOOD -- Michael J. Foote, 25, of Braidwood, died suddenly Monday (April 22, 2002) from injuries received in an automobile accident.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Bill Luttrell will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Braidwood.
Memorials may be made to the family for his children.
He was born July 31, 1976, in Morris.
Surviving are his dear friend, Shelly Allen and their two children, Amber and Michael Foote Jr., all of Braidwood; his parents, Michael and Janice Sammons Foote of Braidwood; two brothers, Joshua and Tyler, both of Braidwood; maternal grandparents, Roy and Carol Sammons of Goreville; paternal grandmother, Joyce Decker of Wilmington; maternal great-grandmother, Ann Haynes of Wilmington; and paternal great-grandmother, Omie Foote of Hartselle, Ala.
His paternal grandfather, Carl Foote; maternal great-grandparents, Tate Haynes and Roy and Royetta Sammons; and paternal great-grandparents, John Foote and Freeman and Orphie Perry; and one uncle, Wayne Perry, are deceased.
Mr. Foote was employed by Talaga Sheet Metal in Joliet. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 265 of Carol Stream.
He enjoyed playing pool and softball.

Minnie Rowell

Minnie A. Rowell, 88, of Kankakee, died Monday (April 22, 2002) at Momence Meadows Nursing Center.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Services will be held at a later date in Tennessee.
Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Johnson City, Tenn., the daughter of John and Millie Young Posey.
Her first husband, Eddie Lee Williams, whom she married in 1929, died in 1946.
Her second husband, Floyd A. Rowell, whom she married in 1948, died in 1969.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Williams of Thawville, John and Melody Williams of Wheatfield, Ind.; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Louise and Gene Sievers of Grant Park, Hazel Kerouac, Willow and Dick DuVall, all of Kankakee, Karen and Stan Pelehowski of Piper City, Wanda Rowell of Kankakee; one stepson, Charles Rowell of Wachahachie, Texas; two sisters, Beatrice Brady of Huntsville, Ala., Lorraine Elliff of Tony, Ala.; 29 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
One son, Alan Rowell; one daughter, Linda Doney; one stepdaughter, Geneva Pinkston; one grandson, Eddy Sievers; and one great-great-grandson, Logan Love, are deceased.
Mrs. Rowell was a former employee of Mortell's and the Joliet Arsenal.
She was a member of the Church of God.
She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Toggy Johnson

Toggy Johnson, 91, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Rev. Eleanor Ditrick will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Johnson was employed in millwork as a cabinet maker.
He was born June 19, 1910, in Gotenborg, Sweden, the son of Johan and Hilda Larsson Johnson.
His wife, the former Lucille Farrell, whom he married April 12, 1942, in Dwight, is deceased.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Ernest L. Miracle, Susan and Dale Stevenson, all of Kankakee; one sister, Elsa Furst of Gotenborg, Sweden; one brother, Walter Wallenbring of Roserna, Sweden; two grandchildren, Christopher Ansted and fiancee, Laura, of Houston, Texas, Matthew Ansted and fiancee, Misty, of Dallas, Texas; one great-grandchild, Hannah Ansted of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews in Sweden.
Six sisters, Edit, Greta, Karin, Rut, Anne and Mary; and one brother, Gunnar, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. He was a life member of the Dwight VFW and the Dwight American Legion and the Disabled Veterans.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dwight.
He enjoyed woodworking and walking.

Urbain Granger
WWII vet

Visitation for Urbain "Bud" Granger, 84, of Kankakee, will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with a 4:30 p.m. wake service, at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Teresa Catholic Church, where he was a member. Rev. Anthony Taschetta will officiate.
Burial will be in St. George cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to St. Teresa Education Fund.
Mr. Granger died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at his home.
Mr. Granger was a carpenter, farmer and grocery store owner for 79 years, retiring in 1997.
He was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Manteno Township, the son of Hector and Georgianna La Haie Granger. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former, Imogene Hahn, whom he married Oct. 5, 1946, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, of Kankakee; two daughters, Julie Skeldon and special friend, John Foss of Franklin, Wis., Janine and James Marcotte of Kankakee; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Claire Hayen of Joliet, Lucille and Ed Kehr of Bradley; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Charles and Virginia Granger of Los Angeles, Calif., Jerome and Janette Granger of Kankakee, Dr. Paul and Maryland Granger of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Jessica and John Brace, Nealy Skeldon, Jeana and Mat Thompson, Joshua Marcotte and Heather Ruel; and several nieces and nephews.
One brother, William Granger; and one sister, Yvonne Reid, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during World War II as a staff sergeant. He received many service medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross with the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Air Medal for his 50 missions in the China-Burma-India theater, the POW Medal for his time in the German prison camp and the Combat Infantryman's badge. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion for 50 years.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 55 years.

Verdebelle Brouillette

Verdebelle R. Brouillette, 84, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Vernon Sonday
Sears retiree

OTTAWA -- Vernon H. Sonday, 81, of Ottawa, formerly of Kankakee, died Monday (April 22, 2002) at St. Francis Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with a 6 p.m. Elks service and a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Ottawa Funeral Home.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday at St. Columba Church, where he was a member. Rev. David Kipfer will officiate.
Burial, with military rites, will be in St. Columba cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Geotsch, Jud Patterson, Larry Johnson, Mike Patchett, Bob and Tony Stoudt. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Dammann, John Jessen, Woody Berta, Chuck Kuehn, Dean Raber, Leigthon Patchett, Tom Wright, Leroy Nagle, Jack Fedor and Bob Shunick.
Memorials may be made to St. Columba Church or to Community Hospital.
Mr. Sonday retired from Sears in 1982 after 37 years of service.
He was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Kankakee, the son of August and Barbara Neuman Sonday.
Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Erzinger, whom he married Dec. 21, 1941, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kankakee; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Allen Wilhelms of Ottawa; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Allen Sonday of Ottawa, Jeff and Debra Sonday of Madison, Wis.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One brother, Harold Sonday, is deceased.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II on the battleship Idaho. He was a member of the American Legion Post 33 and the Ottawa VFW.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Ottawa Elks Lodge.

Wayne Bourell

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -- Wayne Donald Bourell, 67, of Cathedral City, Calif., formerly of Bradley, died Monday (March 15, 2002) at Desert Hospital in care of Hospice.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Mt. Calvary cemetery. Rev. Anthony Taschetta will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Desert Aids Project or to Catholic Charities.
He was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Bradley, the son of Donald Victor and Geraldine McCoy Bourell.
Surviving are many cousins.
He had been a resident of Cathedral City for 21 years as a wallpaper installer.
He was a Eucharistic minister at St. Tereasa in Cathedral City and St. Louis Catholic Church in Palm Springs, Calif.
Mr. Bourell had been a volunteer for Desert Aids Project for 14 years with more than 4, 000 hours of service to the community.

Catherine Hiles

OAK BROOK -- Catherine Thomopoulos Hiles of Oak Brook, and a former Kankakee resident, died Monday (April 15, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Thursday at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home, 17 W. 201 Roosevelt Rd., Oak Brook Terrace.
Services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Friday from the funeral home to the 10 a.m. service at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 2501 S. Wolf Rd., Westchester.
Interment will be in Chapel Hill Gardens West cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Apostles Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Surviving are her husband, Bernard Hiles; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marge and John Faklis, Olga T. Bancroft; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Nomie Thomopoulos, Nicholas and Elaine Thomopoulos; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Hiles was retired from Elmhurst Hospital, where she was the executive secretary to the president of the hospital.

Edith Fancher

GILMAN -- Visitation for Edith M. Fancher, 56, of Gilman, will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. rosary service at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, Gilman, where she was a member. Rev. John Balluff will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Gilman.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Fancher died Monday (April 15, 2002) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka, after a sudden illness.
She was born Sept. 21, 1945, in Chicago, the daughter of John and Margaret "Bessie" Gabbert Shaeffer. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Charles R. Fancher, whom she married June 29, 1963, in Gilman; two sons and one daughter-in-law, George Fancher of Phoenix, Ariz., Steve and Shelly Fancher of Gilman; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lisa and John Lukas of Hoopeston, Lori Sirois of Kankakee; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Swartz of Wellington, Jane Vanderhoff of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and two brothers, Bud Shaeffer of Lexington, Ky. and George Shaeffer of Norwood Park Township, Chicago.
She was a graduate of Lockport High School.
Mrs. Fancher was a former bookkeeper at Hicks Plaza and was presently a fuel desk attendant at Illico Plaza. Both are in Gilman.
She was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and bowled in the Gilman Bowling League.
She enjoyed bingo and horses.

Henry Ray

Graveside services for Henry J. Ray, 70, of Salt Lake City, Utah, formerly of Bradley, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Rev. Larry Schreffler will officiate.
Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ray died April 2, 2002.
