RANKIN -- Visitation for Ruth Ellen Irvin, 70, of Rankin, formerly of Melvin, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Knapp Funeral Home, Rankin, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Ray Radae will officiate.
Burial will be in Rankin Union cemetery.

Mrs. Irvin died Thursday (April 18, 2002) at Provena United Samaritan's Medical Center, Danville.
She was born July 3, 1931, in Peach Orchard Township, Melvin, the daughter of Carl and Maye Burnett Horton. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Edward L. "Lee" Irvin of Rankin; one son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Marcy Irvin of Normal; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Doug Morger of Catlin; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ann Buhrmaster of Paxton, Patricia and Dale Roach of Scarborough, Maine; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Edith Horton of St. Charles; and four grandchildren.
Two brothers; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; two nephews and one niece, are deceased.
Sylvia Mathes
SIBLEY -- Sylvia D. Mathes, 67, of Sibley, formerly of Paxton, and the mother of a Loda resident, died Monday (April 15, 2002) from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Services were held April 18 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sibley. Rev. Bob Kenis officiated.
Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery, Sibley.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Sibley.
She was born June 29, 1934, in Harvey, the daughter of James and Hattie Lorenz Helms. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, John A. Mathes, whom she married
May 27, 1956, at Lake Worth, Fla.; five sons, Daniel Mathes, Rob Mathes, Mike (Brenda) Mathes, all of Sibley, Matt Mathes of Sarasota, Fla., Chris Mathes of Sibley; seven daughters, Irene (Keith) Michalski of Rensselaer, Ind., Barbara (Patrick) Mathews of Griffith, Ind., Sharon Mathes of Champaign; Joyce (Mark) Mathews of Sarasota, Debbie (Dave) Normile, Laura Buhr, all of Rantoul, Cathy (Matt) Hewerdine of Loda; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nancy Centille of Lady Lake, Fla.
One grandson, Robert Ernst; and one brother, Jimmy Helms, are deceased.
Mrs. Mathes was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sibley, and was active in many church organizations including the Sunshine Kitchen Band and ELCW.
Wanda Schade
FRANKFORT -- Wanda Lee Schade, 78, of rural Frankfort, died Thursday (April 18, 2002) at her home.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Peotone, where she was a member. Rev. Michael Ginter will officiate.
Burial will be in Peotone cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
She was born April 9, 1924, in Chicago, the daughter of David and Wanda Gertz Clark.
Surviving are her husband, Wilbert Joseph Schade, whom she married
Aug. 22, 1951, of rural Frankfort; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Mary Schade of New Lenox, Robert and Liana Schade of Kankakee; and two grandchildren.
One sister, Virginia Newell, is deceased.
Mrs. Schade was retired from Illinois Bell.
She was a member of her church's Council of Catholic Women and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
William Ringler

MILFORD -- William C. Ringler III, 60, of Milford, died Thursday (April 18, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, with a 6 p.m. Lions Club service and an 8 p.m. prayer service, at the Hamilton-Orr Funeral Home, Hoopeston.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Hoopeston. Rev. Anthony Lee will officiate.
Burial will be in Sugar Creek cemetery, Milford.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to the Lions of Illinois.
Mr. Ringler was a teacher and track coach for Hoopeston Community School District.
He was born May 26, 1941, in Chicago, the son of William C. II and Charlotte Zielinski Ringler. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Janice A. Lauterbach, whom he married
June 22, 1963, in Hoopeston; one daughter, Arlene Ringler of Piney Point, Md.; five sons and two daughters-in-law, William C. "Casey" IV and Cheryl Ringler of Holland, Mich., Dwayne "Craig" and Malia Ringler of Lakewood, Colo., Albert "Chris" Ringler of Bloomington, Edwin "Cory" Ringler and Edward "Cary" Ringler, both of Urbana; and one granddaughter.
One niece; one nephew; and one grandson, are deceased.
He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan and attended Illinois State.
He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Hoopeston, where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Milford Lions Club and had served as a Boy Scout leader.
Wilmer Umland
CHICAGO HEIGHTS -- Wilmer M. Umland, 81, of Chicago Heights, died Thursday (April 18, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the Fred C. Hub Memorial Chapel, 13th and Otto Blvd., Chicago Heights.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10th St. and Ashland Ave., Chicago Heights.
Survivors include one son, Robert W. Umland of Grant Park.
Charles O'Lena
Charles E. O'Lena, 50, of Bourbonnais, died Tuesday (April 9, 2002) at his home.
Services were held April 11 at the Colonial Chapel in Orland Park. Rev. Clement P. Bilhorn officiated.
Burial was in Chapel Hill Gardens South, Oak Lawn.

He was born Aug. 22, 1951, in Blue Island, the son of Ernest and Roberta Hyde O'Lena. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Darlene M. McComis; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael and Danielle O'Lena, Patrick O'Lena and his fiancee, Tricia; two brothers, James Fortin and Richard Fortin; and one sister, Schyla Falardeau.
He was a resident of Bourbonnais for two years and formerly of Alsip for 23 years.
Mr. O'Lena, a welder, retired in 1999 from Fabrication and Welding Corporation after 28 years of service.

Charles R. Thiel, 60, of Kankakee, died Thursday (April 11, 2002) at his home suddenly.

Helen LaMontagne
centenarian dies
OTTAWA -- Helen LaMontagne, 100, of Ottawa, and the relative of area residents, died Thursday (April 11, 2002) at the Ottawa Pavilion.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Monday until the 1 p.m. services at the Ottawa Funeral Home. Rev. Thomas Shaw will officiate.
Entombment will be in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum-Oakwood Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to St. Columba Church, where she was a member.
She was born Jan. 6, 1902, in Gilchrist, the daughter of John and Mary Boback Gasper.
Her husband, Dr. James A. LaMontagne, whom she married
in April 1956 in Chicago, died Dec. 5, 1961.
Surviving are three nieces, Shirley (Richard) Wolf of Loveland, Colo., Lucille (Donald) Talty of Ransom, Caroline (David) Knutson of Channahon; and two nephews, Harry (Carol) Seward of Ottawa and Norman (LuAnn) Swartzlander of Pennsylvania.
Two sisters, Emma Swartzlander and Anna Seward; and two brothers, Joseph and Mike Gasper, are deceased.
Homer Caldwell

GOLCONDA -- Homer M. Caldwell, 69, of Golconda, formerly of Papineau, died Wednesday (April 3, 2002) at Massac Memorial Hospital, Metropolis.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. April 20 at Antioch Baptist Church in rural Golconda.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Caldwell retired from Ford Motor Company, Chicago Heights, after 21 years of service. After retirement, Mr. Caldwell managed several auction businesses. He had formerly lived in Papineau, where he was elected village president and provided leadership to help the village recover from a major drought in 1988.
He was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Hyden, Ky., the son of Boyd and Louise Brown Caldwell. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy L. Owens, whom he married
March 9, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colo., of Golconda; eight children, Brendy Chayer and Don Shepherd of Manteno, Patricia Cain of Grantsburg, Michael Caldwell, Ronnie and Barbara Caldwell of Cassville, Ga., Robert Caldwell and his companion, Martha, of Cartersville, Ga., Tom Caldwell and his companion, Belinda, of Metropolis, Judy and Mike Rechkemmer of St. Anne; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bo Caldwell of Helton, Ky., Frank Caldwell of Big Rock, Tenn., Thomas Caldwell of Salem, Mo., William Caldwell of Momence; and one sister, Betty Bennett of Baxter, Ky.

He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, outdoor sports and watching western movies.
James O'Reilly
CUSTER PARK -- Visitation for James E. O'Reilly, 67, of Kimberling City, Mo., formerly of Custer Park, will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel.

Joseph Morris, 80, of Kankakee, died Saturday (April 13, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.

Marlin Oldridge
WWII vet
ONARGA -- Marlin Lee Oldridge, 78, of Onarga, died Thursday (April 11, 2002) at the Iroquois Memorial Resident Home, Watseka.
Inurnment services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21 at Onarga cemetery. Rev. Charles Shelquist will officiate. Friends are invited to the family home following graveside services.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Onarga United Methodist Church or to Iroquois Memorial Hospice, Watseka.
Redenuis Funeral Home, Gilman, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Oldridge was an EMT on the first squad of Onarga Ambulance Service and also served as coordinator of the service and Onarga's ESDA.
He retired from Chanute Air Force Base in 1974 where he was active in the National Federation of Federal Employees. He was also self-employed as a building contractor and in his early years was employed by Mueller Implements in Paxton.
He was born Sept. 24, 1923, in Onarga, the son of Fred Edgar and Mathilda Engehausen Oldridge.
He married
Phyllis Morgan in 1946.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marilyn Seaman Behrens, whom he married
May 20, 1970, in Onarga; two sons, Donald Lee Oldridge of Onarga, Richard Lee Oldridge of Gilman; stepchildren, Roger Behrens and Julia Rankin, both of Paxton; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; one sister, Eldrid Niswander of Onarga; one nephew and two nieces.
One son, Gary Lee Oldridge; one brother, Wendell Oldridge; one sister, Ruth Kanosky; and one niece, are deceased.
He attended Onarga schools, receiving his GED in 1947.
He was a World War II veteran serving in Europe with the U.S. 3rd Army earning four battle stars. In 1970, he was one of the founders of Nick Hollingsworth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1903 in Onarga, where he was charter commander serving from 1970-1974 and a member of Kankakee VFW Post 2857.
