Frances Mercier
CLIFTON - Frances A. Mercier, 67, of Clifton, died Sunday (April 7, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Clancy-Gernon Houk Funeral Home, St. Anne, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Phil Nelson will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Anne Township cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family's wishes.
Mrs. Mercier was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Momence, the daughter of Russell and Leah Hammond Flowers. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Gaylord Mercier, whom she married
May 4, 1953, in Shawnee, of Clifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Janice Mercier of Sheldon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Charles Dalton, and Jackie and Mike Benscoter, all of Clifton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Levi Rechkemmer of St. Anne, and Linda and Joe Dulpitta of Texas; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Eileen Flowers, Jerry and Karen Flowers, all of St. Anne, and Russ and Barb Flowers of Bourbonnais; and nine grandchildren.
Two sisters, Margaret Morse and Dorothy Tweet, are deceased.
Mrs. Mercier was a licensed daycare provider for 20 years.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers and family reunions.
Robert Kane
CULLOM - Robert P. Kane, 72, of Cullom, died Saturday (April 6, 2002) at his home.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Cullom. The Rev. Thomas Holloway and Msgr. Tom Maloney will officiate.
Burial with military rites will be in St. John's cemetery in Cullom.
Memorials may be made to Cullom Fire Department Ambulance or a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are by Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Cullom.
Mr. Kane was born Feb. 18, 1930, in rural Kempton, the son of Thomas J. Sr. and Marie H. Donahue Kane.
Surviving are his wife, the former Bonita J. Whitman, whom he married
June 25, 1955, in Cullom; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert P. Jr. and Marie Kane of Pontiac, James Thomas and Dawn Kane of Normal; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patti Ann and Carl Krause of Cullom, and Constance Marie and Mike Leahy of Ada, Mich.; seven grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; four brothers, Paul Kane of Mesa, Ariz., Francis Kane of Joliet, John Kane of Urbana, and Tom Kane of Glen Carbon; and one sister, Mary Hamilton of Gilman.
One brother, Bill Kane, is deceased.
Mr. Kane attended Havener Country School; Piper City Grade and High School; and was a 1949 graduate of Holy Trinity High School, Bloomington.
He took Naval Correspondence courses and received his Associate Degree in electronics from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1956.
Mr. Kane was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1950-54.
He was owner operator of Kane TV Sales & Service in Cullom.
He taught electronics in the Vocational School at the Pontiac Correctional Center from 1981-89.
He was employed as an Electronics Technician for the Illinois State Police from 1989-91.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Cullom.
Mr. Kane was a member and former Commander of the Skinner-Trost American Legion Post 122 of Cullom, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 730 of Chatsworth, and worked with the Pontiac council at the Thresherman Reunions.
He was a member of the former Cullom Grade School Board, headed the committee to put an ice skating rink in the park, helped coach Little League in Cullom and served as the Little League Commissioner.
He helped with maintenance of the Little League field and the installation of lights.
Ruthie Clark
Ruthie Mae Clark, 85, of Kankakee, died Friday (April 5, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the 10 a.m. service at Lax Mortuary, Kankakee.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Mrs. Clark was born April 15, 1915, in Shelby, Miss., the daughter of Jim and Alice Boles.
Her husband, Roosevelt Clark, is deceased.
Surviving are one daughter, Octavia Bady of Mound Bayou, Miss.; one niece, Rainor Nutall of Kankakee; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
One son, Charles Staples; seven sisters; and two brothers, are deceased.
Elizabeth Martis
COAL CITY - Elizabeth "Toots" Martis, 85, of Coal City, died Sunday (April 7, 2002) at Morris Hospital.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Her grandson, Rev. Doug Martis will officiate.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Wilmington. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mrs. Martis was born June 28, 1916, in Carbon Hill, the daughter of Frank and Ursula Korelc Skubic.
Her husband, Leonard Martis, whom she married
Oct. 29, 1938, at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, is deceased.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Leonard and Betty K. Martis of Yorkville, Richard and Betty I. Martis of Coal City, and William Martis of Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Richard Degrush of New Lenox; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jenne Vercelote of Joliet, and Lorrie and Marvin Tyler of Coal City; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Jo Ann Skubic of Coal City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Five sisters, Mary Bruno, Frances Bell, Ann Skubic, Ursula Blake and Marge Martis; and three brothers, Frank, Joseph and Anton Skubic, are deceased.
Mrs. Martis was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, and the Coal City Mothers Club.
Elmer Heldt
GRANT PARK -- Services for Elmer H. Heldt, 93, of rural Grant Park, were held April 6 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Grant Park. Revs. Beverly Zell and Clyde E. Lange officiated.
Mr. Heldt died April 3, 2002.
Burial was in Heusing cemetery in rural Grant Park. Pallbearers were Sean Hamann, Eric Seitz, David Cademartori, Wendell Smith, Daren Lehnert, Larry Hamann and Ralph Heldt. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Fick, Ken Oppenhuis and Gerald Boicken.
Elsie Carmichael
GILMAN - Services for Elsie Louise Carmichael, 70, of Gilman, were held today at Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. Rev. Donald J. MacDonald III officiated.
Burial was in Gilman cemetery.
Mrs. Carmichael died suddenly Thursday (April 4, 2002) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
She was born April 10, 1931, in rural Gilman, the daughter of Frank and Elsie Peters Miller. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, William E. Carmichael, whom she married
May 25, 1951, in Weldon, N.C., of Gilman; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Thomas E. and Grace Carmichael, Daniel L. and Tracy Carmichael, all of Gilman, Frank Carmichael of Watseka, Bryan L. and Michelle Carmichael of Glen Oak, Ariz.; five grandchildren; four brothers, Gene, William and Edward Miller, all of Gilman, Robert Miller of Hickory Flat, Miss.; and three sisters, Lorraine Goldenstein of Danforth, Charlene Blair of Gilman, and Aileen Miller of Watseka.
Her stepmother, Florence Muller, is deceased.
Mrs. Carmichael retired from Hicks Plaza Restaurant in Gilman, where she was a cook for 27 years.
She was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
She was a Cub Scout Den mother, and a member of the U of I Home Extension.
She enjoyed crocheting and traveling.
Paul Rehborg
EUREKA - Paul Rehborg, 86, of Eureka, formerly of Beecher, died Saturday (April 6, 2002) at Eureka Hospital.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hack Funeral Home in Beecher.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Maynard Toensing will officiate.
Mr. Rehborg was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Beecher, the son of August and Anna Piepenbrink Rehborg.
His first wife, Marjorie, died in 1966.
Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Scheiwe Firrantello of Eureka; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Joanne Rehborg of Beecher; one stepson, Nicholas Firrantello of Eureka; one brother, Martin Rehborg of Harris, Iowa; and one grandchild.
One brother, Henry Rehborg; and two sisters, Emma Lohman and Helen Ihnen, are deceased.
Mr. Rehborg was a farmer.
He was a former member of the Zion School Board, and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Evelyn Heath
Evelyn S. Heath, 79, of Bourbonnais, died Wednesday (April 3, 2002) at Miller Center.
There will be no services.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Arrangements are by the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Mrs. Heath was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Dolan, S.D., the daughter of Leonard Gereaux and Alice Sandquist-Gereaux.
Her husband, Bill Heath, is deceased.
Surviving are one son, Ronald LeBrun of California; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Marjorie Gereaux of Bourbonnais, Joel and Carol Gereaux of Bradley, and Mark and Ethel Gereaux of Kankakee; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Faith Benoit and Ruth Rash; and one daughter, Sharon Childers, are deceased.
Mrs. Heath was a waitress.
She was a Catholic.
Christian Wells
Christian David Wells, infant son of Cameron Sr. and Paula Wells, died at birth Friday (April 5, 2002) at University of Chicago Children's Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mound Grove Gardens cemetery. Rev. James Hudson will officiate.
Survivors in addition to his parents include one sister, Latoya Ellison of Denmark, Tenn.; one brother, Cameron Wells Jr. of Kankakee; maternal grandparents Willie and Margie Ellison of Denmark, Tenn.; paternal grandparents, William and Jacqueline Wells of Kankakee; four aunts and three uncles.
