Elsie Grey
A funeral Mass for Elsie Katherine Grey, 87, of Bradley, was celebrated Feb. 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Revs. John Antczak and Dennis Spies and Deacon Andy Berg officiated.
Mrs. Grey died Feb. 7, 2003.
Burial was in Assumption cemetery, Ashkum. Pallbearers were Michael and Stephen Grey, Amy Gancherob, Brad Splear, Merle Johnson and Karl Russow.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherine Ellen Grey.
Norman Luecke
SHELDON -- Services for Norman L. Luecke, 70, of Sheldon, were held Feb. 11 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Sheldon. Rev. Neil Larimore officiated.
Mr. Luecke died Feb. 6, 2003.
Burial, with military graveside rites by the Sheldon VFW Post 8631, was in Prairie Dell cemetery, Iroquois. Pallbearers were Delmer, Duane and Gerald Bohner, Dale and Russell Schuler and Ryland Snow.
Carl Stein
GILMAN -- Services for Carl A. Stein, 95, of Gilman, were held Feb. 11 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Crescent City. Rev. Harold Grafe officiated.
Mr. Stein died Feb. 6, 2003.
Burial was in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Crescent City. Pallbearers were Jim, Larry and Melvin Hasbargen, Ron Kissack, Norman Memenga and Ron Stein. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce and Skip Redeker and Chris, Mike and Roger Stein.
Helen Williamson
WATSEKA -- Services for Helen V. Williamson, 86, of Watseka, were held Feb. 11 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford. Rev. Jay DeMent officiated.
Mrs. Williamson died Feb. 8, 2003.
Burial was in Sugar Creek cemetery in Stockland. Pallbearers were Larry Bury, Roy Wilson, Roger Reed, Jim Barilow, Doug Benner and Tom Barnes.
Zachary Wood
Graveside services for Zachary Wood, infant son of Jonathan Wood and Angela Jensen, both of Kankakee, were held Feb. 11in St. James cemetery, Irwin. Rev. Ronald Hart officiated.
Zachary died Feb. 8, 2003.
Pallbearers were Jamie Sebastiani, Michael Brooks, Kenny Dato and Ed Keller.
Orville Estill
Orville S. Estill, 83, of Bradley, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley.
Sadie Lumkes
ST. ANNE -- Sadie Lumkes, 90, of St. Anne, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) at Provena Heritage Village in Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home in St. Anne, and from 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. services at the First Reformed Church of Wichert. Rev. Gerald Norman will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, St. Anne.
Memorials may be made to the First Reformed Church of Wichert, where she was a lifelong member.
Mrs. Lumkes worked with her husband on their farm, Circle-In Glad Farm; the Fair Store, Claire Hat Shop and was a hostess at the Little Corporal restaurant.
She was born Jan. 14, 1913, in St. Anne, the daughter of John and Kate Brower Hoekstra.
Her husband, Ralph Lumkes, whom she married
April 10, 1931, in Crown Point, Ind., died Sept. 11, 1959.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Mary Lumkes of Garland, Texas; one daughter, Lois Yates of Orange, Calif.; three sisters, Dorothy Phillips of Kankakee, Rosalyn DeBoer of Lansing, Kathryn Elzinga of Zeeland, Mich.; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, John Hoekstra of Grand Rapids, Mich., Phil and Dorothy Hoekstra and Elaine Hoekstra, all of St. Anne; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Simon, Pete, Bill and Tunis are deceased.
Mrs. Lumkes enjoyed working in her yard, baking for others, visiting shut-ins and corresponding with friends.
Russel McKean
educator
ONARGA -- Visitation for Russel R. McKean, 91, of Gibson City, formerly of Onarga and a longtime educator, will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Onarga Methodist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Charles Shelquist will officiate.
Burial will be in the Onarga cemetery.
Memorials may be made to The ARC of Iroquois County.
He died Monday (Feb. 10, 2003) at the Gibson Area Hospital-Annex in Gibson City.
Mr. McKean was a longtime teacher and principal at Onarga High School. He retired in 1975 from the Milford schools. He also taught and coached at Saybrook/Arrowsmith High School.
He was born May 18, 1911, in Woodson, the son of Leonard A. and Emily K. Russel McKean.
Surviving are his wife, the former Annetta C. Hustedt, whom he married
June 20, 1943, in Herscher, of Gibson City; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Leonard R. and Alice McKean of Cissna Park, Robert D. McKean of Watseka; two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine A. and Michael Dubuisson of Des Moines, Iowa, Alice C. and Kenneth Hieser of Foosland; one sister, Janet K. Dohmann of Sauk City, Wis.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One brother is deceased.
Mr. McKean was a member of the Shagbark Country Club and a past member of the Onarga Lions Club.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting and gardening.
Thelma Mitchell
MOMENCE -- Thelma J. Mitchell, 69, of Momence, died Wednesday (FEb. 12, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee.
There will be no visitation or services.
Cremation rites were accorded.
Arrangements are by the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence.
She was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Watertown, N.Y., the daughter of Frank and Edna Mountney LaBarge. Her parents are deceased.
Her husband, Gerald R. Mitchell, whom she married
Jan. 22, 1949, in Watertown, N.Y., died Oct. 27, 1992.
Surviving are one daughter, Shawn Vetter of Momence; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jill Mitchell of Momence; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother and six sisters.
Two brothers, one sister, two daughters, Pamela and Charlene; and one grandson, Gerald Mitchell are deceased.
She enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
Kenneth Motsinger
MANTENO -- Kenneth E. Motsinger, 82, of Manteno, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Services are tentatively set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Manteno.
Arrangements are pending at the Brown Funeral Home in Manteno.
Jimmy Tucker,
Vietnam War vet
MOMENCE -- Visitation for Jimmy L. Tucker, 57, of Momence, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at the Christian Hope MB Church in Hopkins Park. Rev. Harold Harris Sr. will officiate.
Burial will be in the Momence cemetery, Ganeer Township.
Arrangements are by the Leggett Funeral Home in Hopkins Park.
He died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Mr. Tucker was a laborer.
He was born Feb. 9, 1945, in Hopperville, Miss., the son of Emit and Mable Harris Tucker. His father is deceased.
Surviving are one son, Kenneth Aikens of Minneapolis, Minn.; his mother, Mable Kidd of Momence; one brother, Willie Kidd of Momence; and three grandchildren.
His stepfather and one brother are deceased.
Mr. Tucker was a resident of the area for four years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Loretta Wiesinger
STRAWN -- Loretta E. Wiesinger, 83, of Newport Beach, Calif., formerly of Strawn, and the sister of a Chatsworth resident, died Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003).
Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hager Memorial Home in Forrest.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Catholic Church in Strawn. Rev. Scott Archer will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Rose cemetery in Strawn.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
She was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Strawn, the daughter of Albert J. and Anna C. Rudolph Benway.
Her husband, Rudolph Wiesinger, whom she married
May 12, 1945 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Chicago, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Linda Wiesinger of O'Fallon, Mo., Rudy and Barbara Wiesinger of Newport Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Ann Rebolz of Chatsworth, Helen Kelly of Ottawa; four brothers, William Benway of Gibson City, Weldon Benway of Strawn, Keith Benway of Sibley, Paul Benway of Anchor; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Three sisters and two brothers are deceased.
She was a 1936 graduate of Strawn Community High School.
