Robert Allen

JACKSON, Tenn. -- Robert Lee Allen Sr., 74, of Jackson, Tenn., a former 50 year resident of Kankakee, died Monday (May 6, 2002) at his home.
Services were held May 11 at St. James Baptist Church, Humboldt, Tenn. Elder Robert Ferguson officiated.
Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Humboldt, Tenn.
He was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Humboldt, Tenn.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Jr. and Cassandra Allen of Kankakee; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marie and James Armstrong and Kenna Allen, all of Kankakee; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mary Nell McLemore of Alton, Austin McLemore of Royal Lakes, Evelyn and Joe Williams of Decatur, Betty and Jimmy Banks of Springfield; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one aunt, Marie Alley of Raeford, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, Jim Allen and Bessie D. Allen Timberlake; one son, Richard Allen; one brother, James Allen Jr.; and one sister, Birdie Louise Bryson, are deceased.
He was raised and educated in Humboldt.
Mr. Allen had worked as an operator for Roper Corporation and later as a technician for Gaines Foods until his retirement.
He was a member of Zion Gate Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board. He also was an active member of Prince Hall Free Mason's "True Lodge 136" serving as worshipful master and as secretary.

Ruby Blissard

Visitation for Ruby Helen Hawkins Blissard, 75, of Bourbonnais, will be from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the 6 p.m. services at Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors, Kankakee.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
The scattering of the cremains will be held at 10 a.m. June 11 at Mound Grove Scattering Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Ms. Blissard died Wednesday (May 8, 2002) at Kindred Vencor Hospital, Chicago.
She was born Oct. 17, 1925 in Indiana.
Surviving are one daughter, Jackie Sue Tapp of Bourbonnais; one brother, Leland Hawkins of Indianapolis, Ind.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and one aunt, Elsie Klemans of Tacoma, Wash.
One son, David; and one sister, Alice Biehl, are deceased.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 268.
She enjoyed talking on the CB radio. Her handle was "Country Girl."

Sylvia Mize
tavern owner

GILMAN -- Visitation for Sylvia K. Mize, 90, of Farina, formerly of Gilman, will be from 1:30 p.m. today until the 3:30 p.m. services at Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman. Rev. Steven Gallo will officiate.
Burial will be in the Gilman cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gilman or to St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Peter, Ill., where she was a member.
Mrs. Mize died Thursday (May 9, 2002) at St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham.
She was born Nov. 21, 1911, in Farina, the daughter of Julius and Fredericka Adermann Wachholz.
Her husband, Carnie A. Mize, whom she married Jan. 7, 1942, in Layton, Okla., died Feb. 2, 1971.
Surviving are two nieces, Rosemary Sears of Herrin, Ann Mills of Eugene, Ore.; and three nephews, Bernard Wachholz and Charles Wachholz, both of Farina and Richard Savoie of Onarga.
One son; one daughter; four brothers; and two sisters, are deceased.
She was a 1930 graduate of Farina High School.
Mrs. Mize was the former owner of Mize Tavern in Gilman for 23 years.
She was a former member of the Gilman Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed sewing.

Thelma Ramsey

DWIGHT -- Thelma J. Ramsey, 72, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Dwight, died Sunday (May 5, 2002) in Broward Hospital, Pompano Beach.
Services were held May 8 at All Faith Funeral Chapel, Deerfield Beach, Fla.
Burial was in Forest Lawn cemetery, Pompano Beach.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald; one daughter, Norma McCartha of Tennessee; two grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Brierly of Dwight; and three sisters-in-law, Harriet Rohlff of Dwight, Lourine Rohlff of LeRoy and Dorothy Rohlff of Kansas.

Thomas Snyder
Army veteran

COAL CITY -- Thomas L. Snyder Jr., 38, of Coal City, died suddenly Friday (May 10, 2002) at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Steffan Olson will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Tim and Terry Snyder, Mike and Ray Taylor, Ralph Riske and John Ciolino.
He was born Aug. 8, 1963, in Geneva.
Surviving are his wife, the former Tara Lake, whom he married Oct. 27, 2001, in Gardner; two sons, Cody Snyder and Chance Snyder, both of Hampton, Va.; his father, Thomas Snyder Sr. of Rockford; his mother, Joan Rolland Snyder of Bemidji, Minn.; one sister, Tanya Snyder of Chicago; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Tim Snyder of Birmingham, Ala., Terry and Linda Snyder of Gladstone, Mo.; grandparents, Neola and Paul Bruhle of Yorkville and Laverne Snyder; one niece and one nephew; and three stepbrothers, Ed, Dan and Pat O'Sullivan.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Snyder was employed as a sheet metal worker for Atomatic Mechanical Services in Hoffman Estates for the past four years. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 265 in Carol Stream.
He enjoyed building cars and drag racing cars.

Victoria Vecellio

CARBON HILL -- Victoria Vecellio, 97, of Carbon Hill, died Thursday (May 9, 2002) at Morris Hospital.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Reeves Funeral Home, Coal City.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Assumption Catholic Church, Coal City, where she was a member. Rev. Donald O'Connor will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Braidwood. Pallbearers will be Robert, James, Timothy and William Crawford and Thomas and Jeff Herbst.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
She was born May 24, 1904, in Carbon Hill, the daughter of John and Victoria Vacca.
Her husband, Art Vecellio, whom she married May 31, 1927, at Assumption Catholic Church, Coal City, died in 1997.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Angela and Raymond Isberg of Plainfield, Anna Jean Crawford of Carbon Hill; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Five sisters; four brothers and one son-in-law, Robert Crawford, are deceased.
She was raised and educated in Carbon Hill.
Mrs. Vecellio was employed for many years as a seamstress in area clothing factories and was well known as a good cook.

Billie Eldred

Visitation for Billie L. Eldred Sr., 74, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. Monday until the 1 p.m. services at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais. Daryl Clements will officiate.
Burial, with military rites by the Aroma Park American Legion F-Troop, will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Mr. Eldred died Wednesday (May 8, 2002) at his home after a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 27, 1927, in Kankakee, the son of Nicholas and Ethel Mae Eldred Lecato.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorine Falkenhan, whom he married Oct. 6, 1945, in Crown Point, Ind.; six sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Lynette Eldred of Wilmington, Bill Jr. and Pat Eldred of Lynn, Mass., Nick and Roseann Eldred of Bourbonnais, Peter and Sue Eldred of Billings, Mont., Carl and Cindi Eldred of Kankakee, Robert and Candace Eldred of Ballantine, Mont.; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Sue Garrett of Bourbonnais, Sharon and Bruce Powell of Bradley, Shelly and Bob Crowe of Lillian, Ala., Sandy and John Hanna of San Diego, Calif., Shirley and Mark Dillon of Samson, Ala.; 27 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and special friend, Billy Hooker.
One grandson, Justin Powell, is deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II as a surgical technician. Prior to that he had served in the Merchant Marines. He received the Victory medal and the Occupational medal.
Mr. Eldred was a retired employee of Azzarelli Construction after 37 years as a truck driver and had been a bartender at the Eagle Inn Tavern that his family ran.
He was a member of the Teamsters Local 705, the National Rifle Association and the Aroma Park American Legion.
He was one of the founding members of the Just Us motorcycle gang.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and NASCAR racing, especially Dale Earnhardt.

Edgar Hale

CHATSWORTH -- Edgar W. Hale, 79, of Chatsworth, died today (May 10, 2002) at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator, after a short illness.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.

Edna Kuester

WOODWORTH -- Visitation for Edna S. Kuester, 83, of Woodworth, will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park, and from 10 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Woodworth. Rev. James Ritter will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery in Woodworth.
Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hour Ministries; St. Paul's Lutheran School, Woodworth, or Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
Mrs. Kuester died Thursday (May 9, 2002) at her home.
She was born Aug. 8, 1918 in Beatrice, Neb., the daughter of John and Sophia Arndt Sturm.
Surviving are her husband, Arnold Kuester, whom she married Aug. 17, 1947 in Woodworth; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jeani Kuester of Ione, Calif., Steven and Bev Kuester of Onarga; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joann and Les Seggebruch of Onarga, Joyce and Bryon Rinkenberger of Edwards; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One grandchild, Michelle Kuester, is deceased.
Mrs. Kuester was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Woodworth, a member of the Lutheran Missionary's League and the Lutheran Layman's League.
