Scott McGuinn

DWIGHT -- Scott Lewis McGuinn, 17, of the Wm. W. Fox Developmental Center, Dwight, died Tuesday (Feb. 4, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hager Memorial Home in Dwight.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dwight, where he was a member. Rev. James Rickey will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Fox Center family and friends.
He was born Dec. 4, 1985 in Arlington Heights.
Surviving are his mother, Sandy Cyrkiel of Coal City; father, Robert J. McGuinn of Braidwood; stepfather, Jerry Cyrkiel of Coal City; one sister, Toni McGuinn of Coal City; one brother, Niko Cyrkiel of Coal City; maternal grandmother and grandfather, Adela Balderas and Felix Balderas of Coal City; and paternal grandfather, Bill McGuinn of Fox Lake.
His paternal grandmother, Marlene Milz and one uncle, Lenny McGuinn, are deceased.

Ronald Scharf
served community

WATSEKA -- Ronald D. Scharf, 59, of Watseka, died Tuesday (Feb. 4, 2003) at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka.
Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday at Oak Hill cemetery in Watseka.
Friends are invited to the Scharf residence in Watseka from 1-6 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross.
Arrangements are by the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.
Mr. Scharf worked for the Iroquois Mental Health Center for 32 years and was then employed at the Iroquois County Courthouse.
In 1979, Mr. Scharf, who was then director of the Iroquois County Rehabilitation Institute, received U.S. Rep. George O'Brien's medal of merit for outstanding community service.
He was affiliated with the American Red Cross for several decades and currently was serving as Iroquois County Chapter president. He was named Volunteer of the Year by the chapter in 1994.
He was born Jan. 7, 1944, in Savannah, Ga., the son of Aaron and Bethel Goodlink Scharf. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Anne Johnson, whom he married June 13, 1965, in Watseka; one son, Jonathan A. Scharf of Clifton, Colo.; one granddaughter; two nieces; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Margaret and Bernard Johnson; and two brothers-in-law, Steve and Mark Johnson.
His twin brother, Donald; and one son, Jeffrey, are deceased.
He was a 1962 graduate of Donovan High School and received his bachelor of arts degree from Western Illinois University.
He coached Watseka Junior Varsity High School girls basketball for nine years.
A member of Shewami Country Club, he enjoyed golfing and had scored two holes-in-one.

Ray Wooton
Vietnam War vet

ST. ANNE -- Ray William Wooton, 48, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of St. Anne, died Jan. 9, 2003 at the Forum Health Northside Hospital.
Graveside services, with full military rites by the U.S. Navy and the Manhattan American Legion, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Rev. Mark Strothmann of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington will officiate.
Fred C. Hub Memorial Chapel in Grant Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wooton was employed as a salesman in the Telemarketing Business in Youngstown, Ohio.
He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
He was born Aug. 13, 1954, in Rensselaer, Ind., the son of Harold and Ona Lone Wooton. His father is deceased.
Surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Tracy and Dan Chappell of Grant Park, Lisa and Brett Sawyer of Braidwood; his mother and stepfather, Ona and George Good of St. Anne; two brothers, George V. Good and Rick Good; eight nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
One brother, Jeffrey A. Biggs and an infant sister, Diana K. Biggs, are deceased.
He attended St. Anne schools and had been a resident of Youngstown, Ohio since the early 1990's.

Margery Anderson

CHEBANSE -- Margery A. Anderson, 64, of Chebanse, died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003).
Services will be private.
Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel in Kankakee is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 6, 1938, in Kankakee, the daughter of August E. and Ethel Cross Anderson. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Donald L. Anderson Sr., whom she married Aug. 18, 1956 in Chebanse; one son, Steve Anderson of Bradley; one daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl L. and Galvin Senor of Chebanse; two brothers, Robert Anderson of Limestone, Tyrone Wood of Kankakee; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One son, Donald Anderson Jr.; and one brother, Glenn Anderson, are deceased.
Mrs. Anderson was a member of the United Church of Christ in Chebanse.
She enjoyed home decorating, especially for the holidays; sewing, reading and traveling in her motorhome.

Jean Carlson
teacher for 35 years

ELWOOD -- Jean E. Carlson, 56, of Elwood, died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003) from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Forsythe Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, and from 10 a.m. Monday until the 10:30 a.m. services at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 140 S. Thelma St., Manhattan. Rev. Carol Currier Frighetto will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery in Manhattan.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ.
Mrs. Carlson was a kindergarten and first grade teacher for 35 years in the Calumet Park School District.
Surviving are her husband, James C. Carlson of Elwood; her father, Eric Minter of Evergreen Park; one brother, Kenneth Minter of Peotone; three sisters-in-law, Judy Carlson of Joliet, Joan Carlson of Manhattan, Marilyn Offerman of Elwood; two brothers-in-law, William Carlson of Joliet, Dave Offerman of Elwood; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Her mother, Eileen (Marrs) Minter; and one brother, Wayne Minter, are deceased.
She received a bachelor's degree from Blackburn College and a master's degree from National Lewis University.
Mrs. Carlson was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Manhattan where she was just elected as vice president of the Church Council. She was on the Board of Christian Education and chair of both Pastor Parish Relations and the History/Memory Group for the church's 100th anniversary. She was the vice moderator of the Eastern Association of the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ.
She was a past member of the Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ in Oak Lawn where she served as moderator and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Elsie Grey

Elsie K. Grey, 87, of Bradley, died today (Feb. 7, 2003) at Provena Heritage Village in Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley.

Mark Haines
Vietnam War vet

MILFORD -- Visitation for Mark L. Haines, 55, of Charleston, formerly of Milford, will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Ray Jackson will officiate.
Burial will be in Prairie Dell cemetery in Iroquois.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
He died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) at his home.
Mr. Haines worked at Eastern Illinois University for 25 years. For 12 of those years he was director of arrangements at the student union and the last five years as special events coordinator.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War as a communication specialist.
Mr. Haines was born Sept. 15, 1947, in Watseka, the son of Lewis G. and Frances Samuelson Haines. His father is deceased.
Surviving are his mother of Milford; one son, Seth Haines of Tallahassee, Fla.; aunts and uncles, Jean Wilkinson of Sheldon, Lyal Rhoades of Watseka, Marilyn and Rex Davis of Louisville, Ky., Rodrick Haines of Darlington, Ind., and Stanley Samuelson of Rochester, Ind.
He was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church.

Johanna Hanson,
Dwight correctional officer

PONTIAC -- Johanna Margaret Hanson, 83, of Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac, and the mother of a Kankakee resident, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003).
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. rosary service at the Duffy Funeral Home in Pontiac, and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the 10 a.m. celebration of the funeral Mass at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Chatsworth. Revs. Thomas Mack and Richard Brunskill will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery in Chatsworth.
Memorials may be made to Evenglow Lodge; St. Mary's Church, Pontiac; Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Chatsworth; or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707.
Mrs. Hanson had been a correctional officer at the Women's Prison in Dwight.
She was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Chatsworth, the daughter of Clarence and Grace Frieden Endres.
Her husband, Kenneth P. Hanson, whom she married Sept. 3, 1937, in Chatsworth, died Dec. 14, 1985.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Gail Hanson of Glen Ellyn, John and Ruthe Hanson of Fitchburg, Mass.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joan and Duane Gerjets of Deer Creek, Pamela Hanson of Kankakee, Ann and James Morse of Pontiac; twin sister, Josephine Wittler of Pontiac; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Three brothers are deceased.
She attended Chatsworth schools.
Mrs. Hanson was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pontiac; Daughters of Isabella; the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
She loved to travel.
