Col. John Henry, M.D.

WILDER, Vt. -- Col. John P. Henry M.D., 75, of Wilder, Vt., and the brother of a Kankakee resident, died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., Vt.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Norwich Congregational Church.
Private burial will be in the Hillside cemetery in Norwich.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Norwich Congregational Church, P.O. Box 23, Norwich, VT 05055.
He was born May 7, 1927, in Kankakee, the son of Charles D. and Helen Ogilvie Henry.
Dr. Henry received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Illinois and served his internship and residency at the Presbyterian and Veteran's Hospital in the Chicago area. While attending college he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After graduating he practiced at the Veteran's Hospital in Hines, Ill. as a clinical investigator studying chest diseases. Dr. Henry served a second tour of duty in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict during which he was a medical advisor in the development of the first space suit. His family moved to Vermont in 1964 when Dr. Henry began working at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct. In 1968 he opened a private practice in Norwich, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Vermont National Guard for many years and was also a member of the Vermont Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Lyman Pell Post American Legion in Norwich.
Surviving are his wife, the former Flossie Hortin, whom he married March 26, 1949, in Albion, Ill., of Wilder; three sons, Frederic H. Henry of South Royalton, Vt., Philip A. Henry of Enfield, N.H., Charles D. Henry of Lebanon, N.H.; two daughters, Charlotte K. Bodding of Anacortes, Wash., Joyce L. Vincent of Windsor, Vt.; five grandchildren; and one brother, Charles O. Henry of Kankakee.

Agnes Kazen

MOMENCE -- Agnes A. Kazen, 89, of Momence, died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cotter Funeral Home in Momence is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kazen retired from Erickson Textile after 22 years of service.
She was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Lake Village, Ind., the daughter of David and Clara Yott Usher.
Surviving are her husband, Dale "Jack" Kazen, whom she married May 25, 1963, in Momence; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Judith Matter of Lowell, Ind.; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Four brothers, one sister and one grandson are deceased.
Mrs. Kazen was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Momence.

William Mobbs
WW II veteran

Visitation for William Paul "Bill" Mobbs, 75, of Bourbonnais, will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, and from 2 p.m. Sunday until the 3 p.m. services at Church of God Worship Center in Bourbonnais. Pastor Rick Sexton will officiate.
Burial will be in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Mobbs died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at RML Specialty Hospital in Hinsdale.
He was born May 19, 1927, in Ethridge, Tenn., the son of Willie Montgomery and Nannie Elizabeth Rigsby Mobbs.
Surviving are his wife, the former Gail Irene Smith, whom he married Oct. 3, 1991 at the Church of God Worship Center in Bourbonnais; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Gladys Mobbs of Bradley, Tim and Lorie Alford of Oak Forest; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Ellie and Hiram Jackson of Lawrenceville, Va., Elaine French of Bourbonnais, Yvonne and Larry Merrick of Dacula, Ga., Melody and Gary Shear of Bradley, Toni and Brian Schoolcraft of Kankakee; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Randy and Jeanine Mobbs of Birmingham, Ala., Lowell and Betty Mobbs of Bradley; 13 grandchildren, Stacy and Todd Bernicky of Bradley, Darrin Mobbs of Bradley, Michelle Bessette of Bradley, Mike Bessette of Kankakee, Tim Bessette of Bourbonnais, Joy and Adam Stokes of Winder, Ga., Travis Merrick of Dacula, Ga., Kristin Reeves of Dacula, Ga., Ross Merrick of Dacula, Ga., Layton Schoolcraft of Kankakee, Zachary Schoolcraft of Kankakee, Jacob Shear of Bradley, Katelynn Shear of Bradley; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica, Tyler, Bailey, Zachary, Josiah, Jonathan, Rene and Korben; and several nieces and nephews.
One son, William Alton Mobbs; his parents; one sister-in-law, Fran Mobbs; and his first wife, Mabelene Mobbs, are deceased.
Mr. Mobbs graduated from Lawrenceburg High School.
He retired in 1983 from Conrail Railroad, where he was an engineer.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed fishing, taking long walks and he loved his church, the Church of God Worship Center.

Richard Riethknecht

CUSTER PARK -- Visitation for Richard E. Reithknecht, 47, of Custer Park, will be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Mark Sanzenbacher, his best friend of many years, will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Braidwood. Pallbearers will be Mark Wolf, Rev. Mark Sanzenbacher, Don, Robert and Paul Reithknecht, Dan, Pat and Tom Conner, Greg Schultz and Richard Koehl.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association in his name.
He died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at the Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center, Davenport, Fla.
Mr. Reithknecht was a millwright with Carpenters Local 1693 of Cook County. He was formerly employed at Personal Products in Wilmington.
He was born Oct. 15, 1955 in Olympia Fields, the son of Robert and Phyllis Price Reithknecht.
Surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen Conner; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathleen Wolf of Braidwood; two daughters, Barbara and Stefannie Wlodarczyk, both of Custer Park; two granddaughters; two brothers and two sisters, Donald Reithknecht of Matteson, Barb (Joe) Jenkins of Altoona, Pa., Judy (Greg) Shultz of Anza, Calif, Jack (Donna) Reithknecht of Muskogee, Okla; and several nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed animals and had raised ostriches.

Edward Wick,
WW II veteran

Visitation for Edward "Brother" Wick, 84, of Bourbonnais, will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, with services at 3 p.m. Tom Wilbur will officiate.
Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
Mr. Wick died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at his home.
He was born March 21, 1918, in Blue Island, the son of Edward and Hulda Johnson Wick.
Surviving are his wife, the former Josephine Pastel, whom he married Jan. 25, 1943 in St. Louis, of Bourbonnais; two daughters and sons-in-law, Merle-Lee Leonhardt and Richard Miers of Fort Wayne, Ind., Wendy-Rae and Robert Connolly of Orland Park; one sister, Hazel "Ditz" Wilderspin of Blue Island; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence "Tootie" and Joan Wick of Oak Forest, Richard and Rose Wick of Downers Grove; and three grandchildren, Ellie-Jo Leonhardt, Steven Connolly and Paul Connolly.
His parents; one sister, Gladys Adamack; and one brother, Charles "Chuck" Wick, are deceased.
Mr. Wick worked for Exide and Gould Battery as a general foreman and foreman of assembly, retiring in 1983 after 38 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the "Straight Arrow Club, " Gould Activity Association, Kankakee VFW, and a past member of the Moose.

Vernes Wilkening
Army veteran

WATSEKA -- Vernes "V.J." Wilkening, 74, of Watseka, died today (Jan. 31, 2003) at the Watseka Health Care Center.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Baier Funeral Home, Watseka, and from noon Monday until the 1 p.m. services at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Woodworth, where he was a member. Rev. Jim Ritter will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery, Woodworth.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Woodworth or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Wilkening was a farmer and a trucker.
He was born June 5, 1928, in Cissna Park, the son of Henry C. and Gertrude Kietzmann Wilkening.
Surviving are his wife, the former Wilma Reiter, whom he married Nov. 9, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodworth, of Watseka; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark and Dinah Wilkening of Cissna Park, Dan Wilkening of Ashkum; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debbie and Dan Bohlman of Milford, Donna Wilkening of Kankakee; one brother and sister-in-law, Bernell Wilkening of Milford, Rosalyn Wilkening of Cissna Park; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
One brother and one sister are deceased.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the VFW.
He enjoyed reading.

Ramona Campbell

DANVILLE -- Ramona Campbell, 72, of Danville, died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2003) at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the 2 p.m. services at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Rev. Don Thornton will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Meadows Christian Village, 400 W. Washington, Chrisman, IL 61924.
Mrs. Campbell worked as a secretary at Club Aluminum in Chicago, Olin Industries in Alton, U.S.I. in Tuscola and Hicks Gas in Gilman.
She was born May 3, 1930, in Roxanna, the daughter of Walter and Leola Draper Franklin.
Surviving are her husband, Jack Campbell, whom she married Dec. 20, 1952, in Woodriver; two sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Cheryl Campbell of Normal, Greg and Melinda Campbell of Mahomet; one daughter, Cheryl Crowley of Gibson City; and seven grandchildren.
Two brothers, Merall and Larry; and one sister, Anna Francis are deceased.
She was a 1948 graduate of Roxanna High School and attended Cincinnati Bible College and Lincoln Christian College.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of East Columbus Christian Church in Columbus, Ind.
She was an accomplished organist and pianist who enjoyed musical evangelism, quilting, sewing and reading.

Robert Cushing,
WW II veteran

COAL CITY -- Robert E. "Buck" Cushing, 87, of Coal City, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at the Walnut Grove Health Care Center in Morris.
There will be no visitation.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where he was a member. Rev. Mike Pennock will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Wilmington.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cushing was employed by Northern Illinois Coal Co. for nine years and later worked as a union laborer on many area construction projects until his retirement. He was a member of Laborer's Union Local 75.
He was born March 10, 1915, in Coal City, the son of Frank and Hannah Franklin Cushing.
Surviving are one niece, Kathleen (Phillip) Einerson of Porter, Okla.; and two nephews, M. Robert "Puffy" Burt of Coal City and James K. (Aldeene) Gale of Wilmington.
Two brothers, Francis and James Cushing; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Evelyn Cushing, Mary and William Black and Catherine and Melvin Burt, are deceased.
He was a graduate of Coal City High School.
Mr. Cushing was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He received many battle commendations including the Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Braidwood Knights of Columbus and the VFW.
