Robert Hasbargen
CRESCENT CITY -- Services for Robert E. Hasbargen, 71, of Creswcent City, were held Jan. 29 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Crescent City. Rev. Harold Grafe officiated.
Mr. Hasbargen died Jan. 25, 2003.
Burial, with military graveside rites by the Watseka American Legion, was in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Crescent City. Pallbearers were Ron Kissack, Larry, Melvin and Jim Hasbargen, Norman Memenga and Richard Stein. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Hasbargen, Bernard Memenga, Harold Redeker and Glen Weidert.
Bill Trusty
Services for Bill L. "Old Dude" Trusty, 68, of Kankakee, were held Jan. 29 at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Rev. Richard Pighini officiated.
Mr. Trusty died Jan. 25, 2003.
Burial was in Aroma Park cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg Denault, Elwood Daily, Marshall Nepras, Louis Conover, Steve Spaulding and Mike Reneau. Honorary pallbearer was Nathan Trusty.
Caveniss Allred Sr.
MARKHAM -- Caveniss M. Allred Sr., 85, of Markham, and the father of a Beecher resident, died Monday (Jan. 27, 2003) at St. James Manor in Crete.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Sunday until the 3 p.m. services at the Beecher Funeral Home, 602 Dixie Hwy.
Burial will be in Adcock cemetery, Hope Mills, N.C.
Memorials may be made to his grandchildren.
Mr. Allred was a retired fabricator for Chicago Bridge and Iron.
He was born April 3, 1917, in Hope Mills, N.C., the son of Walter M. and Mary Sue McLeod Allred.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Charolette and Warren Friedel of Stewart, Fla.; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Caveniss Jr. and Janice Allred of Beecher, Robert C. Allred of Andrews Air Force Base, Md., Walter L. Allred of Kentucky Lake, Ky.; one brother, Morris Meyers of Brentwood, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
One sister, Juanita Sorensen; and one brother, William Allred, are deceased.
Dr. Timothy Brasmer
Dr. Timothy H. Brasmer, 78, of St. Anne, died Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003) after a long illness.
A funeral Mass will be offered for Dr. Brasmer at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kankakee by Rev. Frank Warthen.
Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Evanston, the son of Dr. and Mrs. W.O. Brasmer.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. During the Korean War, he was a Captain in the Army Reserves.
During World War II he married
Mary E. "Sunne" Hoskins of Oklahoma City, Okla., June 30, 1944 in Fort Collins, Colo. He completed his degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1947 and did an internship at Cornell University.
In 1948, Dr. and Mrs. Brasmer moved to Danville and established the Hillcrest Hospital for Animals. Except for two years (1950-52) they remained in Danville until 1966. During the period 1950-52 he served as an instructor at the newly formed College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois in Champaign.
In 1966 they returned to Colorado where he was an NIH Special Research Fellow and he received his Ph.D. in 1969. After receiving his Ph.D., he was appointed an Associate Professor and Chief of Surgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, where he established the first ICU and Trauma Center in veterinary medicine.
In the early 1970s he moved to the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minn. There he was a Professor of Surgery and the Associate Dean of the College. In 1978, the Brasmers moved to Kaneohe, Hawaii, and established a specialty surgical practice. Dr. and Mrs. Brasmer taught extensively in Japan and helped organize the Japanese Animal Hospital Association.
In 1985, they moved to the island of St. Kitts where Dr. Brasmer was a Professor of Surgery and Dean of a new College of Veterinary Medicine.
In 1977, they moved to the Kankakee area where they could be close to family. They have four children, Susan H. and Ernie A. Cox Jr. of St. Anne, Dr. Christopher Y. Brasmer of Albuquerque, N.M., Commander T. Matthew (USN Ret.) and Mary Brasmer of LaCrescent, Minn. and Andrew M. Brasmer of Rock Hall, Md.
Mrs. Brasmer died July 10, 2002.
Dr. Brasmer has one surviving brother, William O. Brasmer of Granville, Ohio; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One brother, David K. Brasmer, and two granddaughters are deceased.
Connie Barten

Visitation for Connie Jean Barten, 50, of Bourbonnais, will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais, and from 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. services at Wesley United Methodist Church in Bradley, where she was a member. Rev. Tom Wilbur will officiate.
Burial will be in Villa Grove cemetery, Villa Grove.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
She died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at her home.
She was born Aug. 4, 1952, in Canton, the daughter of E. Charles and Jeanette L. Farner Sullivan.
She was a 1970 graduate of Manteno High School. She held a bachelor of science degree in education from Illinois State University and a master of arts degree from Governors State University.
She was founder and first director of U are U Preschool in Manteno. A dedicated teacher, she had taught at Bradley Central and at Shabbona Elementary. Since 1979 she had taught first grade at Noel LeVasseur School in Bourbonnais.
In 1983 she was named one of the Outstanding Young Women in America. For many years she was active in Kankakee Junior League and in 1993 she was chosen as the League's Volunteer of the Year.
On Aug. 12, 1977, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Bradley, she was married
to George Barten of Manteno, who survives. Their two daughters, Kari and Lindsay, both of Bourbonnais, were their mother's special joy and inspiration.
Other survivors include a stepson, Jason Barten of Plainfield; her parents, Charles and Jeanette Sullivan of Manteno; one brother, Charles Sullivan of Kankakee; and nieces, Katie Bretzlaff and Anna Sullivan.
Connie was especially interested in the arts and she also enjoyed traveling. With her husband and daughters she had visited all 50 states and Canada.
Frances Harrison
WATSEKA -- Frances M. Harrison, 93, of Watseka, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the 11 a.m. services at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Craig Keith will officiate.
Burial will be in Prairie Dell cemetery in Iroquois.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Harrison assisted her husband with farming.
She was born March 17, 1909, in Donovan, the daughter of Charles R. and Jennie M. Wright Priest.
Her husband, (James) Edward Harrison, whom she married
Dec. 4, 1929, in Watseka, died Dec. 22, 1994.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bill Christy of Watseka; three grandchildren, Bob Christy, David Christy and Karen Harper; and six great-grandchildren.
An infant son, James Lee; one brother, Russell Priest; and one sister, Margaret Hessing, are deceased.
Mrs. Harrison was a member of the Watseka Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Harry Spurrier
Services for Harry J. Spurrier, 63, of Bourbonnais, were held Jan. 29 at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Rev. Robert Demchuk officiated.
Mr. Spurrier died Jan. 26, 2003.
Burial was in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery, Kankakee. Pallbearers were Michael Fred, Tim Basham, Bob Crane, Dave Whitlow, Kevin Pierson and Andrew Basham. Honorary pallbearers were Matt Fred, Cliff Hawkins, Scott LaFond, Scott, Chris, Steve, J.J. and John Basham, Ryan and Aaron Giertz, Shane McKibbons, Darrell Doyle and Erik Pringel.
Leola Holmes
HOPKINS PARK -- Visitation for Leola Holmes, 90, of Hopkins Park, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Ark. Rev. Larry C. Battle will officiate.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Pine Bluff, Ark.
Local arrangements are by Lax Mortuary in Kankakee.
She died Friday (Jan. 24, 2003) at her home.
Ms. Holmes worked as a Domestic.
She was born May 12, 1912, in Pickens, Ark., the daughter of Cassie and Lucy Pittman Holmes.
Her husband, George W. Reliford, whom she married
in Pickens, Ark., is deceased.
Surviving are four daughters, Leola Robinson and Cassie Tucker, both of Hopkins Park, Maple Lee Tucker and Georgia Lee Pierson, both of Pine Bluff, Ark.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roosevelt and Sheila Graham and Eugene and Brenda Graham, all of Chicago; one brother, Jeremiah Holmes of Chicago; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ceola Holmes Haymes of South Bend, Ind., Willie Mae and Dave Reed of Pine Bluff, Ark.; 29 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and 79 great-great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Naomi Warren; her twin brother; one sister, Gail; and six grandchildren are deceased.
She attended the Bible Witness Church in Hopkins Park.
Ms. Holmes, who moved to the area four years ago, enjoyed gardening and house plants.
Heloise Marlaire
ROCK ISLAND -- Heloise E. Marlaire, 78, of Rock Island, formerly of Kankakee, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) at her home after an extended illness.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Jan. 21 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island.
Memorials may be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Mrs. Marlaire was a supervisor at the Rock Island Credit Union, retiring in 1976.
She was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Kankakee, the daughter of Paul and Elizabeth Collins Wertz. Her father is deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Mark Marlaire, whom she married
Sept. 30, 1944, in Kankakee, of Rock Island; one daughter and son-in-law, Michele Marlaire and Larry Anderson of East Moline; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Courtney Marlaire of Whitefish Bay, Wis., Michael and Ruth Marlaire of Boulder Creek, Calif.; her mother of Bourbonnais; one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Milt Kadlec of East Euclid, Ohio; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One brother and one sister are deceased.
She was a graduate of St. Patrick High School in Kankakee.
Mrs. Marlaire was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island where she was an active volunteer. She worked with disabled children at Augustana College.
She was an avid bridge player, movie buff, reader, collector and shopper.
