WATSEKA -- Visitation for Emanuel Hofbauer, 88, of Watseka, will be from noon Saturday until the 2 p.m. services at Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka. John Coney will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Watseka.
Memorials may be made to the Martinton Church of Christ or to Iroquois Memorial Hospice.
Mr. Hofbauer died Thursday (May 9, 2002) at his home.
He was born Aug. 19, 1913, in Cissna Park, the son of Peter and Anna Moser Hofbauer.
Surviving are his wife, the former Corinne Ruddy, whom he married
June 5, 1937, in Hoopeston, of Watseka; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Carolyn Hofbauer of Bloomington, Dwain Hofbauer of Canyon Country, Calif., Brian and Laura Hofbauer of Martinton; one daughter-in-law, Marsha Hofbauer of Martinton; one sister, Caroline Gudeman of Cissna Park; two brothers, Dave Hofbauer of Rankin, George Moser of Cissna Park; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Four brothers; two sisters; and one son, Dale, are deceased.
Mr. Hofbauer was a lifelong farmer in the Martinton area.
He was a member of the Martinton Church of Christ.
Frank Brooks
WATSEKA -- Frank E. Brooks, 84, of Watseka, died today (May 10, 2002) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Baier Funeral Home in Watseka, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Rev. Joe Sheets will officiate.
Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Watseka.
Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Association or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Brooks was born Jan. 18, 1918 in Onarga, the son of Dillard and Sadie Tilstra Brooks.
His first wife, the former Mildred Frazier, whom he married
in 1947, died in 1958.
His second wife, the former Ruth Becker, whom he married
in 1962, died in 1968.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Debbie Brooks of Wisconsin, David and Sandy Brooks of Rock Spring, Wyo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Kissock of Chebanse; two sisters, Florence Brooks, and Mildred Nelson, both of Watseka; three step-sons, Donald Becker, of Minnesota, Doug Becker of Indiana, and Richard Becker of North Carolina; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brooks owned and operated Brooks Radio & TV Repair in Watseka.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of United Methodist Church in Watseka.
Leona Frye
CISSNA PARK -- A funeral Mass for Leona H. Frye, 84, of Cissna Park, was celebrated May 9 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Penfield. Rev. Bill Keebler officiated.
Mrs. Frye died May 4, 2002.
Burial was in Cissna Park cemetery. Pallbearers were Joshua, Brad, Kevin, Dennis, Gary and Jim Marshall, Jim Pierce and John Laubscher.
Joan Freeman
CRESCENT CITY -- Visitation for Joan E. Freeman, 67, of Crescent City, will be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, with a 6:30 p.m. rosary service, at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Edmund's Catholic Church, Watseka. Rev. Lee Ryan will officiate.
Burial will be in L'Erable Catholic cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities.
Mrs. Freeman died Wednesday (May 8, 2002) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
She was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Kankakee, the daughter of Oscar and Cecile Surprenant Beland. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Donald F. Freeman, whom she married
Nov. 22, 1952, in Kankakee, of Crescent City; one son, Donald Freeman Jr. of New Jersey; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina Marie and Kevin Odle of Kankakee; six sisters, Sharon Geisler and Marilyn Moon, both of Kankakee, Patricia Lemenager of Ashkum, Barbara Berns and Gloria Wheeler, both of Kankakee, Judy Lauterbach of Clifton; and five grandchildren.
One daughter, Cynthia; and one grandson, are deceased.
Mrs. Freeman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crescent City.
John Frailey
MANTENO -- Visitation for John Marion Frailey, 74, of Manteno, will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, Manteno.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Christ in Bourbonnais, where he was a member. Tom Tate will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, Manteno.
Memorials may be made to the Bourbonnais Church of Christ or to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
Mr. Frailey died Thursday (May 9, 2002) at his home.
He was born Dec. 11, 1927, the son of John Henry Allen and Phrona Devers Frailey.
Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara Lee Okerson, whom he married
Oct. 25, 1947, in Morganfield, Ky.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Marilee Frailey of Parkville, Mo., John W. and Anna Frailey of Reno, Nev.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marcey Coats of Tolleson, Ariz., Teena and Barry Osterhoff of Bradley, Marion and Howard O'Connell of Bettendorf, Iowa; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Robert Lozier of Calhoun, Ga.; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
One son, Terry Wayne Frailey, is deceased.
Mr. Frailey had worked for the IC Railroad and Henkel. He was the owner of Frailey's Body Shop.
He served 50 years as Master Mason and was a member of Cave-In-Rock Lodge No. 44 Grand Lodge of A.F. &A.M.
Louis Flexser
MT. VERNON -- Louis Wayne Flexser, 70, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Bismarck, Ill., and the father of a Bourbonnais resident, died Wednesday (May 8, 2002) at his home.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Hughey Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon and from 11 a.m. Saturday until the 1 p.m. service at Sunset Funeral Home, Danville. Rev. Thomas Hill and Jerry Short will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery, Danville.
He was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Champaign County, the son of Charles E. and Edna Louise Walborn Flexser. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Patricia A. Combs, whom he married
March 16, 1951, in Danville, of Mt. Vernon; one son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne A. and Kathy Flexser of Bourbonnais; one daughter and son-in-law, Diana K. and Tom Newton of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles T. and Mary Flexser of Waverly, Tenn.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruth and Ray Rosenwinkle of Mt. Vernon, Geraldine Cooper of Sun City West, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Judith Ann Flexser, is deceased.
Mr. Flexser retired after 43 years employment as a welder for the Esco Corporation.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville.
Mary Wright
Mary Ann Wright, 80, of Kankakee, died Thursday (May 9, 2002) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital following a short illness.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. service at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kankakee.
Burial will be in Aroma Park cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family's wishes.
Mrs. Wright was born Sept. 14, 1921 in Princeton, Ind., the daughter of David B. and Millicent Sutton Wheeler.
Her husband, George William Wright, whom she married
June 24, 1943 in Alexandria, La., died in 1996.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, William Alan and Catherine Wright of Australia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Ann Kathleen and William R. Wagner of Bourbonnais, Ginia Lee Rasmussen of Kankakee; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One brother, Harold Wheeler, is deceased.
Mrs. Wright retired from Kankakee School District No. 111 in 1994, where she was a secretary in the Regional Office.
She was a proof reader at the Daily Journal, and did proofreading at the Bourbonnais Herald.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kankakee, where she had been secretary, and also was secretary at Aroma Park Methodist Church.
She was a member of Christian Women's Club, Delphi, Something Special Singing Group; and was active in the Republican Party.
Nettie Scharlach
CISSNA PARK -- Nettie Scharlach, 95, of Cissna Park, died today (May 10, 2002) at Heartland Health Care Center, Paxton.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Monday until the 2 p.m. services at Apostolic Christian Church, Cissna Park, where she was a member. Ministers of the church will officiate.
Burial will be in Apostolic Christian cemetery, Cissna Park.
Arrangements are by the Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park.
She was born April 7, 1907, in rural Rankin, the daughter of John E. and Lydia Bolliger Scharlach.
Surviving are one brother, Harry Scharlach of Hoopeston; and one sister, Mary Anderson of Cissna Park.
Six brothers and four sisters are deceased.
Miss Scharlach had been a licensed practical nurse.
Norman Wright
BRAIDWOOD -- Norman O. Wright, 63, of Braidwood, died Wednesday (May 8, 2002) at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Saturday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel.
Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood.
He was born March 15, 1939, in Leachville, Ark., the son of Richard Lester and Winnona Faye Patterson Wright. His parents are deceased,
Surviving are four brothers and sisters-in-law, Amos and Louise Wright of Paragould, Ark., William and Sue Wright of Boynton Beach, Fla., Donald and Kathy Wright of Custer Park, Paul and Donna Johnson of Walland, Tenn.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Linda and Richard Mullen of Wilmington, Carol Moore of Wynne, Ark., Barbara and Bernard Bazik of Rockdale; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his stepmother, Pauline Wright of Wynn, Ark.
Three brothers, Wayne, Toney and Ted Wright, are deceased.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Mr. Wright retired from Caterpillar Inc. in Joliet after 30 years of employment.
He enjoyed golfing and riding his scooter.
