Anna Wilken
FAIRBURY -- Anna Travis Wilken, 87, of Heritage Manor, Colfax, formerly of Fairbury, and the mother of a Chatsworth resident, died Saturday (Jan. 25, 2003).
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. Steven Anderson will officiate.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Freedom cemetery, Columbia, Ky.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Dominy Memorial Library in Fairbury.
She was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Columbia, the daughter of William N. and Nancy M. Bailey Holt.
Her first husband, Tim Bryant, whom she married
Jan. 13, 1932, in Canevalley, Ky., died April 13, 1955. She later married
Bill Wilken on Jan. 12, 1962 in Forrest.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Bryant, Raymond Bryant of Chatsworth; three daughters, Nancy Bunting of Pearland, Texas, Dorris Hoffman of Alvin, Texas, Rachel Ellis of Forrest; one nephew; 19 granchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
Four brothers; one sister; two sons; one daughter; and one granddaughter, are deceased.
She was a member of the Chenoa VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed quilting and playing bingo.
Frank LaVerne "Bike" Beiswanger
DWIGHT -- Frank LaVerne "Bike" Beiswanger, 81, of Dwight, died Saturday (Jan. 25, 2003) at Heritage Manor in Dwight.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Hager Memorial Home in Dwight, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. services at United Methodist Church in Dwight. Rev. William Leppin will officiate.
Burial will be in McDowell cemetery in rural Dwight.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Mr. Beiswanger was born Aug. 17, 1921 in Dwight, the son of Frank Theodore and Lillie Elizabeth Miller Beiswanger.
Surviving are his wife, the former Elaine Marie Pratt, whom he married
July 13, 1947 in Dwight; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lorene and Chuck Branz of Dwight, Nancy Raycraft of Bloomington, Marcia and Jim Drach of Emington; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Linda Beiswanger of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Caroline McConnell and Dorothy Burger, both of Dwight; one sister-in-law, Alice Mathison of Peoria; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
One sister, Ruth Bruback; one brother, Kenneth Beiswanger; and two sons-in-law, Joe Ferguson and Rick Raycraft, are deceased.
Mr. Beiswanger owned and operated Dwight News Agency until his retirement in 1989.
He worked in the office at State Police Headquarters and was a meat cutter at Royal Blue Store, before enlisting in the Army in 1943.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943-46 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations under General Stilwell and General Wedemeyer. He received the Bronz Star for meritorious service in 1945.
He was president of Dwight Chamber of Commerce from 1967-1968, Harvest Days Parade Marshall in 1989, and served many years on the Board of Directors at McDowell cemetery.
Cora Benn
COUNTRY CLUB HILLS -- Visitation for Cora Jean Benn, 46, of Country Club Hills, formerly of Kankakee, will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Lax Mortuary, Kankakee, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. service at New Faith Baptist Church, 25 S. Central Ave. in Matteson. Rev. Vera Stewart will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery, Kankakee.
Ms. Benn died Thursday (Jan. 23, 2003) at her parent's home in Kankakee.
She was born March 18, 1956 in Kankakee, the daughter of Raymond Eugene Sr. and Dolores Jean Benn.
Surviving are one daughter, Morgan Benn of Kankakee; her parents, Raymond Sr. and Dolores Benn of Kankakee; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Raymond Jr. and Debra Benn of Indianapolis, Ind., Anthony and Diane Benn of Shelbyville, Christopher Benn of Bourbonnais; one nephew; three nieces; a great niece; one uncle; and many other relatives.
One sister, Deborah Denise Terry, is deceased.
Ms. Benn graduated from Westview High School and received a B.S. in Psychology from Illinois State University.
She was employed at Shapiro Developmental Center in a variety of administrative positions.
She went on to work for the Office of Inspector General and later made the transition into numerous leadership roles at Howe Center in Tinley Park.
Ms. Benn was a member of the executive committee of the Kankakee Branch of the NAACP. She worked with the Freedom Fund Committee, Education Committee and also represented the chapter at statewide conferences.
She was an active member of the Illinois Association of Minorities in Government.
Ms. Benn was a former member of Caldwell Chapel. She was an active member of New Faith Baptist Church, a leader in the Singles Only Loving Our Savior (SOLOS) ministries, and helped to organize the first SOLOS conference.
Doug Rohrbach
ONARGA -- Services for Doug Rohrbach, 47, of Onarga, were held Jan. 24 at Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga. Rev. Charles Shelquist officiated.
Mr. Rohrbach died Jan. 19, 2003.
Burial was in Onarga cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Haynes, John Blake, Don Conn, Tom Kucera, Tim Talbert, Jeff Zick, Steve Pool and Dean Fink.
Ida Wakat
A funeral Mass for Ida M. Wakat, 83, of Bourbonnais, was celebrated Jan. 24 at Maternity BVM Catholic Church in Bourbonnais. Rev. James Michaletz, and Deacon Eucharist Marcotte co-officiated.
Mrs. Wakat died Jan. 21, 2003.
Burial was in All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais. Pallbearers were Jerry Papineau, Bryan Wakat, Matthew and Kenneth Wronkiewicz, Don Albrecht and Seph Drasler.
Vernon Meents
LIMESTONE -- Services for Vernon Meents, 85, of Limestone, were held Jan. 25 at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. The Kankakee Masonic Lodge officiated.
Mr. Meents died Jan. 20, 2003.
Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Gregory King, James Goodwin, D. Keith Maki, Roger Meents, Richard Paulsen and Steve Meents.
Rose Engelhardt
MOMENCE -- Visitation for Rose B. Engelhardt, 67, of Momence, will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Cotter Funeral Home in Momence, where services will be at 1 p.m. Monday. Rev. Stephen Reyner will officiate.
Interment will be in Sherburnville cemetery in Yellowhead Township.
Memorials may be made to the family's wishes.
Mrs. Engelhardt died Thursday (Jan. 23, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, following a sudden illness.
She was born Dec. 9, 1935 in Lyon County, Ky., the daughter of Thomas and Rose Pinnegar. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Guy Engelhardt, whom she married
May 16, 1975 in Kankakee, of Momence; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christy Davison of Bradley; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Rosemarie and John Lima of Lumberton, Texas, Rebecca Pippin, and Rachel and Matthew Elsworth, all of Stroudsburg, Pa., Rolena and Cleveland Dotson of Auburndale, Fla.; one stepson, Darin Engelhardt of Chicago; one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and William Davison of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and June Pinnegar, and James and Lucy Pinnegar, all of Paducah, Ky.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One brother and one sister are deceased.
Mrs. Engelhardt had been a nurse's aid for St. Mary's Hospital and Momence Meadows Nursing Center.
She was a former member of the Illiana Heights Ladies Aid Society.
She enjoyed animals and working in her yard.
Eleanore Langlois
MONTROSE, Colo. -- Eleanore Langlois, 84, of Montrose, and sister of a Bourbonnais resident, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at the Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, Colo.
A private family service will be held.
Arrangements are by the Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory of Montrose, Colo.
Mrs. Langlois was born Jan. 25, 1918 in Kankakee, the daughter of Thomas and Kathryn Kocinski Lindsay.
Her husband, Bernard Langlois, whom she married
May 7, 1936, died July 24, 1971.
Surviving are one son, David Langlois, of Montrose, Colo.; and one sister, Diane Mathis of Bourbonnais.
One brother, Thomas R. Lindsay; and one sister, Dolores Lindsay, are deceased.
Mrs. Langlois worked for the Bear Brand Manufacturing Textiles, Kankakee School District 111 as a cook, Kroehler Furniture Manufacturing fabric shop, Butternut Bread, and the Kankakee Community Action Program Food Pantry.
She moved from Kankakee to Montrose where she made her home until the time of her death.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church of Kankakee, was an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, a Catholic Daughter of St. Rose, and a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross.
She enjoyed painting and swimming.
Elbert T. "Al" Lund
LADY LAKE, Fla. -- Elbert T. "Al" Lund, 87, of The Villages, Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Kankakee, died Jan. 15, 2003 at his home.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Kankakee. Rev. Kathy Sweet will officiate.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Lund retired as Plant Manager of J.W. Mortell Co. in Kankakee in 1978 after 40 years of service.
He was born Dec. 24, 1915 in Etna, the son of Thomas and Maryann Lund.
He married
Georgia Hogan in 1939. She died in 1988.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Philpott of Bloomington; three granddaughters, Amy LaMarra and Will Sawyer, Elizabeth and Lee Wilmeth, Marcia and Neil Canaday; two great-granddaughters; one sister, Vivian Loverin Mussman of Grant Park; several nieces and nephews; and his "best buddy" of 15 years, his cat Hobo.
One brother, Ralph Lund; and one sister; Evelyn Foreman, are deceased.
He was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Navy Seabees in Honolulu.
Mr. Lund had been active in his current church and Morrison United Methodist Church, Leesburg.
He was a self-taught woodcarver and many people were recipients of his work.
