Cynthia Naese
Services for Cynthia Naese, 86, of Kankakee, were held Jan. 9 at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel in Kankakee. Rev. Martin R. Gutzmer officiated.
Mrs. Naese died Jan. 6, 2003.
Burial was in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Steve Elton, John Jr., Bill, Eric and Mike Naese, Rodney White, Steve Dickmeyer and John Basham.
Joanne Walling
Services for Joanne Walling, 56, of Bradley, were held Jan. 8 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kankakee. Rev. Curt Boyer officiated.
Mrs. Walling died Jan. 4, 2003.
Burial was in All Saints cemetery in Bourbonnais. Pallbearers were Hank Eastburn, Mike Mathy, Bud Sherman and Brandon, Gail and Randy Walling.
Raymond Duchene

Visitation for Raymond J. "Ray" Duchene Sr., 84, of Bourbonnais, will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Senesac Kankakee Funeral Home.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Maternity BVM Catholic Church, Bourbonnais, where he was a longtime member. Rev. James Michaletz will officiate.
Burial, with military rites by the Bradley VFW and the Aroma Park American Legion, will be in All Saints cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley.
He died Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) at his home.
Mr. Duchene was a supervisor at the U.S. Post Office in Kankakee for many years.
He was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Kankakee, the son of Harvey and Lucille Boisvert Duchene.
His wife, the former Luella M. Schriefer, whom he married
July 9, 1956, in Woodstock, died Feb. 19, 1990.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond Jr. and Lyn Duchene of Limestone Township, Rick and Robin Duchene of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Michael Mecila of Brazil, Ind., Rosetta and John Tomsic of Bonfield, Lynette and Mike Berryhill of Piper City; one brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Beverly Duchene of Bourbonnais; three brothers-in-law, Melvin Schriefer of Champaign, Harold Schriefer of Grant Park, Gordon Schriefer of St. Joseph; three sisters-in-law, Sue Schriefer of DeMotte, Ind., Mardel Regas of Bradley, Olive Rae Talkington of Eldorado; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Paul and Roy Duchene, are deceased.
Mr. Duchene served with the U.S. Army during World War II and as a member of the Bradley VFW Post and the Aroma Park American Legion Post.
He enjoyed fishing.
Rev. Claude Harris,
founded Peoples Church
Rev. Claude Harris, 86, formerly of Kankakee and the founder and former pastor of Peoples Church, died Dec. 17, 2002 in Emmett, Idaho.
Services were held Dec. 27 in Emmett.
He was born May 18, 1916 in Naylor, Mo.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Griffin, whom he married
Oct. 5, 1940; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Jeanie Harris of Emmett, Greg and Retta Harris of Clifton; one daughter, Maryln Nelson of Emmett; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother; and one sister.
Rev. Harris was ordained into the ministry in 1938. He served churches in Missouri, California, Illinois and Idaho. He was also employed at Armour Pharmaceutical for 25 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a resident of Kankakee for 40 years, where he founded Peoples Church and served as pastor for 35 years.
He received a doctorate in theology from Burton Seminary in Colorado in 1962.
He was a well-known appraiser, dealer and collector of old and rare books, had an extensive collection of Indian artifacts and had a lifelong love of hiking the deserts and mountains of the west.
Irma Potts
STUART, Fla. -- Irma I. Potts, 89, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Coal City, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 2003) at Parkway Health and Rehab in Stuart.
Memorials may be made to the Parkway Health and Rehab Center, 800 S.E. Central Parkway, Stuart, FL 34994.
She was born in Piene, Germany, and had been a resident of Stuart for the past 16 months.
Her husband, Donald Potts, is deceased.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Robert Hoffman of Stuart; one son, Donald Potts of Oceanside, Calif.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Lutheran faith.
Ervin Sanetra

COAL CITY -- Ervin J. Sanetra, 69, of Coal City, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at his daughter's home in Oregon, Ill.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.
Memorials may be made to the family at 3362 Seldom Scene Road, Oregon, IL 61061.
Mr. Sanetra owned and operated the Little Whittle Shop in South Aurora for 15 years. He was a self-employed carpenter/contractor for many years.
He was born Jan. 29, 1933, in St. Charles, the son of Ervin J. and Ida Eggert Sanetra. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Bea and Bob Feiden of Oregon, Nico Sanetra of Batavia; two sons, Scott Jensen of St. Joseph, Mo., and Kurt Jensen from the state of Oregon; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Norman Sanetra of New York.
He was a lifelong Fox Valley area resident.
Mr. Sanetra was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He also enjoyed raising birds.
Herbert Schroeder
WATSEKA -- Herbert A. Schroeder, 92, of The Colony, Texas, formerly of Watseka, died Dec. 27, 2002.
Services were held Dec. 30 at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Carrollton, Texas, where he was a member. Rev. Stephen A. Wagner officiated.
Burial was in Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
Memorials may be made to the family; the Prairieview Lutheran Home, Danforth; or to the donor's choice.
Local arrangements were by the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.
Mr. Schroeder was a retired civil engineer with Iroquois County Highway Department and the Cook County Forest Preserve.
He was born Sept. 15, 1910, in Milford, the son of Carl and Emma Luepke Schroeder.
Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Henrichs, whom he married
in February 1938 in Woodworth, of The Colony; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Chuck and Pat Schroeder of Temple, Texas, Jim Schroeder of The Colony; one daughter, Kim Schroeder of The Colony; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Eleven brothers and sisters; two daughters; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild, are deceased.
Ellen Sorensen

BLOOMINGTON -- Ellen E. Sorensen, 85, of Bloomington, formerly of Dwight, died Wednesday (Jan. 8, 2003) at Martin Health Center in Bloomington.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Westminster Foundation.
Beck Memorial Home in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Sorensen taught high school in Sandwich from 1939 to 1941. She was the alumni secretary at Illinois State Normal University from 1941-1944. She then taught at DeKalb High School from 1944-1974.
She was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Dwight, the daughter of S. Dixen and Lillie Thomsen Sorensen. She shared her home with Ruth E. Elliot who died Feb. 9, 1996.
Surviving are one sister, Marie Kjolhede of Bloomfield Township, Mich.; one sister-in-law, Lois A. Sorensen of Fort Collins, Colo.; seven nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
Two brothers, Clarence D. Sorensen and an infant, are deceased.
She graduated from Dwight Township High School and from Illinois State Normal University in 1939. She received her master's degree from the University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1950.
She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dwight.
Everine Tammen

THAWVILLE -- Visitation for Everine Amelia Tammen, 80, of rural Thawville, will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman, and from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the 10:30 a.m. services at the Thawville Congregational Church, where she was a member. Rev. Tom Jones will officiate.
Burial will be in Ridgeland Township cemetery, Thawville.
Memorials may be made to Illinois Wesleyan University School of Music or to the Thawville Congregational Church.
She died Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) at Heartland Health Care in Paxton, where she had been a resident for the last 2 1/2 years.
Mrs. Tammen was a member of the Thawville Congregational Church where she was the organist for 58 years.
She was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Thawville, the daughter of John "Jack" and Cora Madison Olson.
Her husband, Darrell H. Tammen, whom she married
June 30, 1939, in Kentland, Ind., died April 16, 1996.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Morris and Linda Tammen of rural Thawville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ond daughter, Jacquelin Whittler, is deceased.
She attended Thawville schools.
She was a member of her church's Women's Fellowship, and played the organ for weddings and other community celebrations.
She also was a member of the Friday 14 Club and the Iroquois County Home Extension.
