MELVIN -- Warren E. Albers, 77, of rural Melvin, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at his home.
There will be no local visitation.
A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. Rev. David Bogda will officiate.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Melvin.
Arrangements are by Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Paxton.
He and his wife moved to rural Melvin in 1973, where he farmed and also did trucking.
He also was a former Wall Township trustee,
Mr. Albers was born March 21, 1925 in Monee, the son of George and Clara Ruhbeck Albers.
Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Hoger, whom he married
Feb. 19, 1949 in Tinley Park, of Melvin; four nieces; and six nephews.
Three brothers and one sister, are deceased.
Mr. Albers attended Green Garden Township country schools in Monee.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Melvin, and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
He enjoyed playing golf.
Harold Denoyer
Harold "Buck" Denoyer, 71, of Bourbonnais, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at his home.
Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the 1 p.m. service at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais.
Alexander Edgar
COAL CITY -- Alexander Cuthbertson "Alex" Edgar, 97, of Coal City, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at Miller Center in Kankakee.
Local visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Rev. Jim Brazell will officiate.
Visitation will also be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz, Ky., with services Friday.
Burial will be in Kentucky.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society, New Hope Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Edgar was born April 25, 1905 in Scotland, the son of John and Margaret Cuthbertson Edgar.
His wife, the former Lurlene Dixon, whom he married
July 4, 1932, died in 1983.
Surviving are his children, John and Lucille Edgar of Coal City, Shelby Jean and Edward Jewett of Ohio; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mae Scaman of Morris, Jessie Brown of Coal City; and many nieces and nephews.
One infant son, Donald; four brothers; and one sister, are deceased.
Mr. Edgar immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island and on to Chicago in 1910.
He moved to Coal City in 1915, attending the South Side School.
In his teens he began operating steam engines and thrashing machines.
In 1925, he operated a drag line, digging drainage ditches in the Coal City area.
During his career, he worked on the construction of the Dresden Dam, the Morris River Bridge, Northern Illinois Coal Mines, and all of the area power plants.
He was a 66-year member of Operating Engineers Local 150.
After retiring at the age of 75, he enjoyed traveling all over the world.
He was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, Woodman of the World, and the Area 1 Outdoor Club.
Adam Harris
REDDICK -- Adam M. Harris, 17, of Reddick, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at his home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the 1 p.m. service at Reddick United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Fear will officiate.
Burial will be in McDowell cemetery in Dwight.
Memorials may be made to the National Institute of Mental Health, Bi-Polar Awareness Foundation, or Reddick United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by Hager Memorial Home in Dwight.
Adam was born Jan. 19, 1985 in Kankakee, the son of Mark and Marilee White Harris.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Reddick, are one sister, Ashley Harris at home; maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary White of Reddick; maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy White of Clinton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Adam was a member of Reddick United Methodist Church, attended Reddick Grade School, and was a student at Herscher High School.
He enjoyed baseball, basketball, and had been studying aviation in hopes of becoming a pilot.

COAL CITY -- Leslie E. Hertenstein, 77, of Coal City, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at his home.
In accordance with his wishes, his body has been donated to medical science.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Ronald McDonald House at Loyola, or to Easter Seals.
Arrangements are by Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City.
Mr. Hertenstein was employed for many years by Uniroyal Corporation at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant in Elwood.
He also was a self-employed professional photographer.
Mr. Hertenstein was born Feb. 20, 1925 in Odell, the son of Leslie F. and Pearl Engelson Hertenstein.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dolores Gagliardo, whom he married
Nov. 2, 1947 at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan L. and Bill Boresi of Coal City, Sherrie and Mike Taylor of Morris; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one aunt.
One brother, Donald; and one granddaughter, Gina Boresi, are deceased.
Mr. Hertenstein was raised and educated in Coal City, graduating from Coal City High School.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was involved in the invasion of the Philippines, Leyte and Okinawa. He received a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Creative Writers Group of Crest Hill.
Wayne Riechers

BEECHER -- Wayne S. Riechers, 79, of Beecher, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today at Hack Funeral Home in Beecher.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Beecher. Rev. Ronald Rock will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery in Beecher.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, or Beecher paramedics.
Mr. Riechers owned and operated Mercury Cleaners.
He was born Jan. 20, 1923 in Beecher, the son of Fred and Minnie Wehrmann Riechers.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jeanne Kirby of Beecher; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Christine Riechers, Fred and Nancy Riechers, all of Beecher; one sister, Marcella Hameister of Beecher; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Merith and RoseMarie Riechers of South Holland, Lorraine Bradley of Watseka; and four grandchildren.
One brother-in-law is deceased.
He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and Amvet Post 67 of Beecher.
Joanne Walling

Visitation for Joanne Walling, 56, of Bradley, will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hertz-Thoma Chapel in Kankakee.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kankakee. Rev. Curt Boyer will officiate.
Burial will be in All Saints cemetery, Bourbonnais.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Walling died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born Sept. 26, 1946 in Kankakee, the daughter of Elmer and Leona Meyer Wrede. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Roger Walling, whom she married
Sept. 7, 1980 at Zion Lutheran Church in Chebanse, of Bradley; one son, Brandon Walling of Bradley; one daughter and son-in-law, Candace and Bud Sherman of Bourbonnais; two stepsons, Randy and Jeanie Walling of Bourbonnais, Jeff and Cindy Walling of Rialto, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Dawn and Mike Mathey of Chebanse; and five grandchildren.
One brother, Marvin Robert Wrede; and one brother-in-law, Gary Walling, are deceased.
Mrs. Walling was an elementary school teacher, teaching at Bradley East, Bradley West, and Shabbona.
She was also employed by Shapiro Developmental Center, and United Developmental Services.
She volunteered for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Bradley Royale Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kankakee, and enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening and camping.
Cynthia Dancy

Cynthia Violet Dancy, 54, of Kankakee, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. Thursday until the 7 p.m. services at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Howard L. Wills Sr. will officiate and Rev. Jesse Jackson will deliver the eulogy.
Private burial will be held Friday in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory cemetery.
Memorials may be made in her memory to Riverside Hospital Foundation (for cancer patients).
Lax Mortuary, Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Dancy was employed by Kankakee School District for four years. She had previously worked for the Salvation Army, Threshold and as an instructor at Chicago City College. She loved working with young children with special needs.
She was born Dec. 17, 1948, in Ft. Pierce, Fla., the daughter of Julius and Gertrude Davis Brown. Her father is deceased.
She married
Willie Leavell Dancy in 1971.
Surviving are two sons, Leavell Dancy of Newport News, Va., Rashan Hughes of Kankakee; her mother of Hampton, Va.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Rev. Jesse Jackson of Chicago, Constance Ward of Oakland, Calif.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alvin and Deloris Phillips of Oakland, Calif. Julius and Brenda Brown of Enwell, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and several other relatives.
She was a 1966 graduate of Newport News High School and in 1971 she received her bachelor of science degree from Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va. and later did graduate study at Governor State University.
Ms. Dancy was a member of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher.
