Smith, Harry
MORRIS -- Harry "Smitty" Smith Jr., 76, of Morris, formerly of Gardner, died Saturday (Oct. 4, 2003) at Morris Hospital.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 7 at Immaculate Conception Church in Morris. Rev. Bo Schmitt officiated.
Burial was in the Braceville-Gardner cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
Mr. Smith was employed with Reynolds Aluminum in Chicago, retiring in 1989.
He was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Gardner, the son of Harry Sr. and Ida Miuner Smith.
His wife, the former Ann Youskevich of South Wilmington, whom he married
Sept. 3, 1955, died March 8, 1991.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Julius Roark of Crest Hill, Judy and Robert Hintze of Mazon; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Gloria Wilson of Gardner, David and Beverly Walkling of South Wilmington; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Lora Kirchner of Dwight, Ella Mae and James Vilt of Coal City, Betty Nelson of Morris; and one brother, Art Smith of Dwight.
One daughter, Barbara Smith; one son, Paul Smith; three brothers and four sisters, are deceased.
He attended Gardner schools and lived in the South Wilmington area all his life.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
Edward Maher
A funeral Mass for Edward Maher, 82, of Kankakee, was celebrated Oct. 8 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Rev. Charles Wheeler officiated.
Mr. Maher died Oct. 4, 2003.
Burial was in the Ashkum cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Hesson, Harold and Chris Schriefer, Larry Holmes, John Harms and Thomas Maher.
Vera Sennett
DONOVAN -- Services for Vera Sennett, 87, of Donovan, were held Oct. 7 at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Terry Horn officiated.
Mrs. Sennett died Oct. 4, 2003.
Burial was in GAR cemetery, Watseka. Pallbearers were Traci Bishop, Tami Bronke, Tiffany Parker, Tait, Tim, Tom and Ty Sennett and Troy Zabel.
Ronald Brady
WATSEKA -- Visitation for Ronald L. Brady Jr. 34, of Bloomington, will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Joe Hughes will officiate.
Burial will be in the Sheldon cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mr. Brady died Friday (Oct. 10, 2003) at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.
He was born Aug. 9, 1969, in Watseka, the son of Ronald Sr. and Helen Johnson Brady. His father is deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Linda Elder, whom he married
June 8, 1999, in Bloomington; his mother of Watseka; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Jeannette Brady of Manteno; one sister, Dorothy Brady and Roger Conrad of Watseka; one nephew and one niece; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He loved to read and work on the computer.
Frances Carlson
retired music teacher
Visitation for Frances Carlson, 82, of Kearns, Utah, formerly of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark United Methodist Church, where she was a member for over 50 years. Rev. Kathy Sweet will officiate.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church.
She died Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at Rocky Mountain Care Center in West Valley City, Utah.
Mrs. Carlson was a retired music teacher.
She was born July 11, 1921, in Chicago, the daughter of Paul and Edith Hedberg Barkstrom.
Her husband, Jim Carlson, whom she married
Oct. 12, 1946, in Chicago, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond B. Carlson and his wife, Marnie Sears of Kearns, Utah, Rev. Walter and Debbi Carlson of Quincy; and five grandchildren.
She enjoyed singing and playing piano and organ for her church and other organizations.
She also liked to camp.
Lee Gift
Visitation for Lee Gift, 79, of Kankakee, will be from 3-6 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. Elks ritual service at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where he was a member.
Inurnment will be in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood.
Memorials may be made to the Elks Crippled Childrens Fund or for Masses.
He died Friday (Oct. 10, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.
Mr. Gift was retired from Shapiro Developmental Center. He had been a teamster for many years with Chipman Trucking.
He was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Kankakee, the son of Charles and Gladys Case Gift.
Surviving are his wife, the former June C. Crawley, whom he married
Feb. 15, 1947, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church; one brother, Charles Gift of Bourbonnais; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wally and Lois Gagnier of Florida; uncle and aunt, Bill and Eileen Caffee of Kankakee; four nieces and one nephew; and special cousin, Sandy Cromwell of Kankakee.
Two sisters, Vivian Crout and Harriet Smith, are deceased.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 2nd Armored Division as a tank driver in Normandy and at the Battle of the Bulge. He also served in the Korean War at Inchon. He was a member of the Kankakee American Legion and the Bradley VFW.
Mr. Gift was an Elks Lodge member for 50 years and a former member of its Board of Trustees.
He enjoyed golf.
Rose Hunter
Rose M. Hunter, 74, of Bourbonnais, died Thursday (Oct. 9, 2003) at her home.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Evergreen cemetery in Chebanse.
Arrangements are by the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.
She was born May 29, 1929, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Harry and Mamie Scarhor Troxtell.
Surviving are her husband, Edwin Hunter; one son, Fred Cowsert of Plainfield; three daughters, Patricia Harris of Hecker, Rosemary Brown of Joliet, Verna Mae Bryant of Harrisburg; one sister, Betty Gallagher of Mt. Vernon; four brothers, Louis, Johnnie, Donald and James; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
One sister and one brother are deceased.
Ralph Light
SHELDON -- Ralph Eugene "Gene" Light, 72, of Sheldon, died Wednesday (Oct. 8, 2003) at the VA Illiana Healthcare Facility, Danville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Sheldon Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Wabash College, P.O. Box 352, Crawfordsville, Ind., 47933.
He was born March 9, 1931, in Ft. Wayne, Ind. He attended schools in Chicago and Champaign, graduating in 1949 from Champaign High School. He graduated in 1956 from Wabash College where he was a member of the football team and the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea from 1952 to 1954.
He was a member of the Darrow Church of Christ; the American Legion Fox River, Geneva Post 75; VFW Post 8631 and the Wabash College Alumni Association.
His wife, the former Suzanne Marie Westlund, whom he married
in 1964 in Champaign, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Tyce Eugene Light of 4 Stephens Street, Adelaide, South Australia, and Todd Alan Light of 7413 N Seeley Ave No. 2F, Chicago; and two brothers, Gerald Light and John Light.
His parents are deceased.
Adelyn Poskin
ASHKUM -- Adelyn Poskin, 88, of Ashkum died Saturday (Oct. 11, 2003) at her home.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.
Daylin Spears
Services for Daylin Keyshaun Spears, 2 days old, of Kankakee, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Lax Mortuary.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Daylin died Wednesday (Oct. 8, 2003) at The University of Chicago Hospitals.
He was born Oct. 6, 2003, in Kankakee, the son of Antoinette Nocentelli and David Spears Sr.
Surviving besides his mother and father are two sisters, Paige and Taylor Spears, both of Kankakee; maternal grandmother, Carolyn Ellington of Bourbonnais; maternal grandfather, Anthony Abrams of Kenosha, Wis.; paternal grandparents, Ida Mae and Archie Walters of Sun River Terrace; maternal great-grandparents, Inez and Ernest Morris of Chicago; aunts and uncles, Damen Nocentelli, Latonya Gallope, Moses, Marvin, Jonathan, Delores, Erica and Tasha Spears and Amanda and Timothy Davis, all of Kankakee, Mario and Wilhelmina Spears of Phoenix, Ariz., Phillip and Monique Spears of Fort Hood, Texas, Elizabeth and Mike Smith of Albany, Ga. and Linda Spears of Tennessee.
One brother, David Spears Jr., is deceased.

ONARGA -- Services for Pedro Ochoa, 46, of Onarga, were held Oct. 8 at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Joseph Estrada officiated.
Mr. Ochoa died Oct. 4, 2003.
Burial was in the Onarga cemetery. Pallbearers were Jesse Carmona, Rene Gayton, Ezequiel, Jose Louis, Juan and Ramon Ochoa.
Robert Collins
MILFORD -- Services for Robert E. Collins, 49, of Milford, were held Oct. 9 at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford. Revs. Tom McCann and Robert Killion officiated.
Mr. Collins died Oct. 6, 2003.
Burial was in Sugar Creek cemetery, Stockland. Pallbearers were Bill and Mark Collins, Amy Jo and Marc Johnson, Bill Schunke and Tony Stebbins.
Robert Wood
PLAINFIELD -- Robert R. Wood, 84, of Plainfield, a former longtime Kankakee resident, died Sunday (Oct. 4, 2003) at Lakewood Healthcare Center in Plainfield.
A memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. Oct. 18 until the noon celebration of the funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kankakee.

Wood and Gerald Wood; two sisters, Virginia Wood and Gaynell Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
