CLIFTON -- Jimmie M. Fate, 69, of Clifton, died Monday (Sept. 29, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, after a short illness.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Timothy Rademacher will officiate.
Burial will be in the Ashkum cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mr. Fate was a quality control technician at Gould National Battery, retiring after 37 years of service.
He was born May 6, 1934, in Bluffton, Ind., the son of Forrest Graden and Edna Ellen Roberts Fate. His father is deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jeanette Blair, whom he married
May 31, 1953, in Grant Park, of Clifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie F. and Mary Ann Fate of Clifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Juanette and Gary Hemp of Ashkum, Judy and Richard Howell and Joanne Meents, all of Bourbonnais; his mother, Edna Prather of Gilman; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
His stepfather is deceased.
He was a member of the Ashkum United Methodist Church.
Mr. Fate was also a member of the Chebanse Lodge 429 AF&AM; and the Chebanse OES 297, where he was a former worthy patron.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and all sports.
Arthur Masters
WWII vet
CHATSWORTH -- Arthur L. Masters, 85, of Chatsworth, formerly of Forrest, died Friday (Sept. 26, 2003) at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City.
Services were held at 11 a.m. today at the Hager Memorial Home in Forrest. Rev. Paul Darveau officiated.
Burial, with graveside military rites by the Forrest American Legion Post 174, was in the Forrest cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Mr. Masters was employed by Forrest Milk Products for 45 years.
He was born June 16, 1918, in Pleasant Mound, Minn., the son of Alvin and Ida Reinke Masters.
He married
Genevieve Luttrull Oct. 5, 1940 in Charles City, Iowa.
Surviving are three daughters, Kay Masters of Forrest, Joy Trainor of Pontiac, Cheryl Armbruster of Cleveland, Ohio; one son, Kim Masters of Pontiac; three sisters, Opal Austman of Forrest, Ruth Hippen and Rosemond Zehr, both of Fairbury; one brother, Floyd Masters of Quincy; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
One brother is deceased.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Mr. Masters served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and was a former commander of American Legion Post 174, Forrest, and Forty and Eight.
He enjoyed gardening and loved to dance.
Paulette Newman
Visitation for Paulette Elizabeth Newman, 53, of Richfield, Minn., formerly of Kankakee, will be from 10 a.m. Thursday until the 11 a.m. services at Lax Mortuary. Rev. Lawrence Coleman will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery.
Mrs. Newman worked as a certified nursing assistant for the Minnesota Veterans Hospital.
She died Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2003) at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn.
She was born Dec. 24, 1949, in Mount Pleasant, Tenn., the daughter of Cotrell and Carrie Wilson. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are her husband, Johnnie Newman, whom she married
Nov. 26, 1998; one son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert and Mirtha Tetter of Minneapolis, Minn.; four daughters, Shannette Tetter of Kankakee, Tijuana Tetter and Gilda Tetter, both of Minneapolis, Nakia Tetter of Richfield, Minn.; two stepchildren, Sabrina Patterson and Jonathon Patterson, both of Minneapolis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Marita Tetter, Eric and Denise Tetter, all of Kankakee, Andre Tetter of Mesa, Ariz., Bill and Janice Newman of Bloomington, Minn., Robert Newman of Minneapolis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Cecil Goosby of Momence, Sarah and Willie Jones and Perthina Hodo, all of Kankakee, DeNeen and Melvin Hester of Mesa, Ariz., Bessie Coleman of Chebanse, Sue Jackson of Brooklyn Park, Karen Newman of Minneapolis, Marjean Newman of California; three special friends; one goddaughter; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
One granddaughter, Chera White; and one nephew, James Coleman, are deceased.
She attended Kankakee Community College.
Mrs. Newman attended True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minn.
She enjoyed cooking, potting and growing plants.
Ruby Pogue
COAL CITY -- Ruby Jane Pogue, 70, of Coal City, died Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2003) at Morris Hospital.
Private family services were held at Ferrari Funeral Services in Coal City.
Graveside services were held Sept. 27 in Jacksonville East cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Grundy County Home Activity Fund.
She was born July 19, 1933, in Beardstown, the daughter of Leo and Lucille Coultas. Her parents are deceased.
Surviving are four daughters, Joyce Ferrari of Coal City, Janet Pogue, Elizabeth Pogue and Brenda Pogue, all of Jacksonville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Margaret Rudin
CISSNA PARK -- Margaret N. Rudin, 94, of Cissna Park, died today (Sept. 30, 2003) at Fairview Haven Nursing Home in Fairbury.
Arrangements are pending at the Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park.
Carmen O'Connor
CRESCENT CITY -- Services for Carmen M. O'Connor, 34, of Crescent City, were held Sept. 29 at the Baier Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Lee Ryan officiated.
Ms. O'Connor died Sept. 26, 2003.
Burial was in the Sheldon cemetery. Pallbearers were Tim McClain, Jason Freeston, Brian Rayburn, Dennis Flock, Andrew Rayburn and David Strom.
Eldon Berger
BUCKINGHAM -- Services for Eldon W. Berger, 85, of Buckingham, were held Sept. 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher. Rev. Mark Wenzel officiated.
Mr. Berger died Sept. 25, 2003.
Burial was in Trinity Lutheran cemetery in Herscher. Pallbearers were Mark, David and Jon Berger, Darrin O'Brien, Scott Frerichs and Dick Bajt.
Clarence Siedentop
HERSCHER -- Services for Clarence E. Siedentop. 96, of Herscher, were held Sept. 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher. Rev. Mark Wenzel officiated.
Mr. Siedentop died Sept. 26, 2003.
Burial was in Trinity cemetery in Herscher. Pallbearers were Jon, Glenn, Isaac and Jed Siedentop, Brian Tuxhorn and Chad Schoolman.
Betty Ake

Betty Ake, 76, of Bourbonnais, died Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at her home.
Cremation rites will be accorded by the Hertz-Thoma Crematory.
Private memorial services will be held.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley in her memory.
Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel, Kankakee, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ake was a retired cook from Heritage House.
She was born March 8, 1927, in Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Grace Green Wobler.
Her husband, Owen E. Ake Sr., whom she married
Nov. 24, 1954, in Ohio, died Sept. 8, 1975.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Owen Jr. and Nancy Ake of Kankakee; one daughter and son-in-law, Lou and Steve Bissaillon of Bourbonnais; six grandchlidren and 10 great-grandchildren.
One son, Timothy Ake; and three brothers, are deceased.
Mrs. Ake was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley.
Elmer Ecker
BUCKLEY -- Elmer W. Ecker, 81, a lifelong Buckley resident, died Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at Asta Care Center in Paxton where he had been a resident for eight years.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home in Buckley.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buckley, where he was a member. Rev. Mark J. Haller will officiate.
Burial, with military graveside rites, will be in St. John's cemetery in Buckley.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Church.
Mr. Ecker was a laborer, having been employed by Bear Brand Hosiery of Paxton and White Hen Egg Farm in Loda.
He was born Aug. 8, 1922, in Buckley, the son of William and Blandina Hecht Ecker.
He married
Pauline Crandall in 1951 in Buckley.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Dena and Steve Reynolds of Lake Iroquois, Loda; one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Sheila Ecker of Buckley; two grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Arlene Peterson of Morris, Louise Buchert of Rockford and Luella Knueppel of Buckley.
He attended St. John's Lutheran School and was a graduate of Buckley High School.
Mr. Ecker served in the U.S. Army in France, Belgium, Germany and Holland during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and a member of the American Legion, Byron Hickerson Post 432, Buckley.
He was a Cubs fan.
Katherine Ferrero
WATSEKA -- Katherine Ferrero, 90, of Watseka, died Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at Watseka Health Care Center.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. rosary service at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edmund's Catholic Church, Watseka, where she was a member. Rev. Lee Ryan will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery in Watseka.
Memorials may be made to St. Edmund's Catholic Church in Watseka.
She was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Tresche Conca Vincenza Italy, the daughter of Joachim and Elena Frigo Panozzo.
Her husband, Peter Ferrero Jr., whom she married
Oct. 2, 1929, in Valparaiso, Ind., died Jan. 14, 1976.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Marge and Bob Fidler of Franklin, Ind., Fay and Robert Runck of St. Joseph; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jack and Phyllis Ferrero of Crescent City, Peter Ferrero III of Astoria, Ore., Gary and Sarah Ferrero of Naples, Fla.; one sister, Rena Killenger of Erie, Pa.; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
One brother, two sisters and one grandchild are deceased.
Mrs. Ferrero was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Watseka American Legion and the Grandmother's Club.
