SAUNEMIN -- Kathryn Lauree Smith, 79, of Sacramento, Calif., a native of Saunemin, died Thursday (Sept. 18, 2003) at her home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, with a 5:45 p.m. rosary service at the Hager Memorial Home in Chatsworth.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Chatsworth. Rev. Richard Brunskill will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery in Chatsworth.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Smith worked for 16 years as a supervisor for data processing for the state of California.

She was born March 15, 1924, in Persimmon, Ky., the daughter of Emmons and Ruth Haile Isenberg.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph Jerome Smith, whom she married Nov. 24, 1951, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Chatsworth; two sisters, Louise Reeder of Farmer City, June Gray of Saginaw, Mich.; two brothers, Emmons Isenberg of Pontiac, Terry Isenberg of Kansas City, Kan.; and 38 nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sacramento, Calif.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Swingers Golf Club and VFW Auxiliary 67, Sacramento, Calif.

She was educated at Saunemin High School.

Barbara Soucie

AROMA PARK -- Barbara A. Soucie, 52, of Aroma Park, died Monday (Sept. 22, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Thursday until the 7 p.m. services at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Kankakee.

Clinton Tillman

CHICAGO -- Clinton Tillman, 80, of Chicago, father of a Kankakee resident, died Saturday (Sept. 20, 2003).

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carter Funeral Chapel Ltd., 2100 E. 75th St. in Chicago.

Mr. Tillman was an employee of McCarthy Lincoln Mercury Dealership for 25 years and Shell Oil Co. for many years.

He was born Nov. 28, 1922, in Sunflower, Miss., the son of Aaron and Penny Tillman.

His wife, Mary Tillman, is deceased.

Surviving are five daughters, Vera Tillman, Delores Tillman, Melody Tillman and Dorothy Tillman, all of Chicago, Angeline Joyce Witherspoon of Gary, Ind.; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Willie and Beverly Tillman and Sammy Tillman, all of Chicago, Clinton Tillman Jr. of Aurora, James Tillman of Kankakee, Earl and Jacqueline Tillman of Chicago Ridge; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and George Davis of Momence, Rosie Lee Reed of St. Louis, Mo.; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Amos and Luella Tillman, Oscar and Annie Tillman, Mayso and Millie Tillman, all of Chicago and Moses and Elizabeth Tillman of West Helena, Ark.

One son-in-law, Joe L. Witherspoon Sr.; one grandson, Lydell Anderson; three sisters, Mildred Baker, Ollie Tillman and Lela Mae Tillman; and three brothers, Vernon Gary, Wilbert Goodall and James Earl Tillman, are deceased.

Laurence Ferdinand

WOODWORTH -- Services for Laurence W. Ferdinand, 85, of Woodworth, were held Sept. 22 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Schwer-Milford. Rev. Mel Meyer officiated.

Mr. Ferdinand died Sept. 18, 2003.

Burial, with military rites by the Cissna Park American Legion, was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery in Schwer-Milford. Pallbearers were Larry Neukomm, Bob Buhr, Tom Roselius, Jay Ferdinand and Glenn and Brian Neukomm.

David Ward

IROQUOIS -- A funeral Mass for David A. "Woody" Ward, 47, of Iroquois, was celebrated Sept. 22 at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Martinton. Rev. Robert Coleman officiated.

Mr. Ward died Sept. 19, 2003.

Burial was in Prairie Dell cemetery in Iroquois. Pallbearers were Aric Bratcher, Bill Daniels, Mike Peterson, Dean Sowern and Dane and Mark Ward.

Carolyn Baron, 25-year employee at General Foods

Carolyn "Kay" L. Baron, 76, of Bradley, died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2003) at Bradley Royale Nursing Center. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Kankakee. Memorials may be made to the family. Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. Ms. Baron was a coupon clerk for General Foods, retiring after 25 years of service. She was born May 25, 1927, in Kankakee, the daughter of James and Cecile Bonesteel Thompson. She married Elmond Baron in 1948. Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Baron of Kankakee; one sister and brother-in-law, Olive and Thomas Cromwell of Gilman; and several nieces and nephews. One son, Kevin Baron; and two brothers, James Jr. and Bud Thompson, are deceased. She was a member of the Catholic faith.

Margaret Donahue

MOMENCE -- Margaret M. Donahue, 76, of Limestone, formerly of Momence, died today (Sept. 18, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Arrangements are pending at the Cotter Funeral Home in Momence.

Dustin Fraher

MADISONVILLE, Tenn. -- Dustin L. Fraher, 18, of Madisonville, Tenn. and the great-grandson of area residents, died Monday (Sept. 15, 2003) after a car accident in Tennessee. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. service at the Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St. in Oak Lawn. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph cemetery in Cabery. Surviving are his parents, Jon R. and Terri L. Grove Fraher of Madisonville; two sisters, Jodie L. Fraher and Katie J. Fraher, both of Madisonville; grandmother, Sue Ann (Joseph) Fraher-Schwaller of Oak Lawn; great-grandmothers, Elizabeth Bergan of Cabery, Helen Fraher of Kankakee; three uncles and one aunt; great-aunts and great-uncles; and cousins. Dustin was a 2003 graduate of Seqouyah High School.

Ida Leftridge

HOPKINS PARK -- Ida Leftridge, 65, of Hopkins Park, died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2003) at her home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Arrangements are pending at Lax Mortuary in Kankakee.

Elizabeth Marshall, 24-year secretary at Roper's

CLIFTON -- A funeral Mass for Elizabeth Marshall, 91, of Clifton, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clifton, where she was a member. Rev. Lee Bacchi will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton is in charge of arrangements. She died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Mrs. Marshall was a secretary for 24 years at Bradley Roper. She was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Clifton, the daughter of Joseph and Eva Lambert Gravelle. Her husband, Joseph Whynott, whom she married in September 1931 in Chicago, died in 1965. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Annis of Paxton; two daughters-in-law, Mary Whynott and Jayne Whynott Wade, both of Clifton; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Two sons, Harold and Donald Whynott; and one great-grandchild, are deceased. She was a member of the CCW at her church and she enjoyed puzzles, reading and was an ardent Cubs and Bears fan.

Robert Perino

BRACEVILLE -- Visitation for Robert Andrew "Baby Bobby" Perino, 19, of Braceville, will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church in Braidwood. Rev. Steve Bondi will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. He attended the United Cerebral Palsy Center in Joliet. He died Sept. 16, 2003 at Morris Hospital. He was born June 15, 1984, in Joliet, the son of Michael and Karen LeRoy Perino. He was born with a rare birth defect and was only expected to live for one year. Surviving besides his parents of Braidwood are one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Becky Perino of Crest Hill; one sister, Melissa Perino of Braceville; one niece; grandparents, Robert Sr. and Dorothy LeRoy of Crest Hill and Gladys Perino of Joliet; close friends, Pat and Sue Shelton of Braceville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. His grandfather, Andrew L. Perino, is deceased.

Anna Perry

COAL CITY -- Anna M. Perry, 92, of Coal City, died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2003) at the Embassy Care Center in Wilmington. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where she was a lifelong member. Rev. Mike Pennock will officiate. Burial will be in the Braceville-Gardner cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason, Jonathan and Joshua Ryan and Ryan, Todd and Tricia Bailey. Memorials may be made to the Joliet Area Hospice. She was born March 20, 1911, in Carbon Hill, the daughter of Martin and Anna Smrekar Korlec. Her husband, William Perry, whom she married May 8, 1932, at Assumption Catholic Church, is deceased. Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Tucker of Carbon Hill; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Korlec of Wilmington, Edward Korlec of Marissa; two sisters, Jennie Olden of Aurora, Mary Macaluso of Coal City; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Martin Korlec and Melvin Korlec; two sisters, Frances Berta and Ursula Hazelton; and two sons-in-law, Jack Major and Fred Tucker, are deceased. She was raised and educated in Carbon Hill.

Rick Prouty, carpenter

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- Rick L. Prouty, 50, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., formerly of Kankakee, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) in Sierra Vista, where he had lived for the past 10 years. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manteno. Memorials may be made in his name to The Boundary Waters Wilderness Foundation. Mr. Prouty was an experienced carpenter who designed and constructed custom furniture. He was born Jan. 30, 1953, in Kankakee, the son of Arthur Sr. and Marge Prouty. His parents are deceased. Surviving are two sons, Jeremy Prouty and Nicholas Prouty, both of Vero Beach, Fla.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Wilma Prouty of Ashville, N.C., Arthur Jr. and Marcia Prouty of Tucson, Ariz., Jim and Kathy Prouty of Mahomet, Bruce and Trina Prouty of Kankakee; one sister, Sara Murphy of Manteno; and 15 nieces and nephews. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his good friends, Corky Minor and Linda Nishijima and had taken many fishing trips to the Boundary Waters in Canada.

Gerald Stoltz

A funeral Mass for Gerald H. Stoltz, 74, of Kankakee, was celebrated Sept. 17 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Settles officiated. Mr. Stoltz died Sept. 12, 2003. Inurnment was in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeff and Scott Stoltz, Jeff, J.J. and Jerry Bowman and Cameron Bigler.
Louis Beck

A funeral Mass for Louis J. Beck, 86, of Bradley, was celebrated Sept. 17 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee. Rev. Charles Wheeler officiated. Mr. Beck died Sept. 13, 2003. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers were Gene and Patrick Donley, James Beck, Darin Orvis, Terry LeReau and Dave Panici.

James Piper

BONFIELD -- Services for James William Piper, 84, of Bonfield, were held Aug. 27 at the Hertz-Thoma Funeral Chapel. Rev. Steven Friese officiated. Mr. Piper died Aug. 24, 2003. Burial was in Grand Prairie cemetery in Bonfield. Pallbearers were Jay Berns, Richard Cochran, Ralph Grub, Brian Laird, Bob Styck, Gerald Schmidt and Roger Boyer.

Raymond VanDuyne

WILMINGTON -- Raymond Walter VanDuyne, 57, of Wilmington, died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2003) at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Braidwood Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington. Rev. Frank Vitus will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Mr. VanDuyne was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 1693 where he worked as a millwright. He was born Dec. 12, 1945, in Joliet, the son of Raymond and Dorothy Lukanich VanDuyne. His parents are deceased. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Tiffanee and Bob Joly of Essex; two grandchildren, Cody and Lindsey Joly of Essex; one brother, Paul VanDuyne of Wilmington; and special friend, Stephanie Cavanaugh of Wilmington. Mr. VanDuyne served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Phillip Cook

WILMINGTON -- Phillip G. Cook, 64, of Wilmington, died Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2003) at his home from cancer.

Cremation rites were accorded.

Freitag Funeral Home in Wilmington was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cook was retired. He had worked for Kirincich Mobile Home Sales, Installation of Elwood for 14 years and as an area sales manager for Case Power Equipment for many years in southern Illinois before moving to Wilmington.

He was born Dec. 4, 1938 in Champaign.

Surviving are his wife, Judy B. Livingston Cook; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Andy Cook and Timothy Cook, both of Wilmington, Brian and Laura Cook of Waunakee, Wis.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Holly Cook of Wilmington, Jolene and Chris Dixon of Bonita Springs, Fla.; his mother, Nadine Cook of Mahomet; one brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Jan Cook of Denver, Colo.; one granddaughter; father-in-law, Gene Livingston of Tamaroa; sisters-in-law, Barbara Daugherty of Manhattan, Nedra (Wallace) McGee of Elwood, Kathy McCauley of DuQuoin; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are his father, Archie J. Cook, in 1988; one son, Scott Moreno in 1994; former wife, Judy Cook in 1985; mother-in-law, Imogene Livingston in 1997; and brother-in-law, Bruce Daugherty in 1994.

Mr. Cook was raised on a farm in rural Mahomet. He attended the University of Illinois for one year and graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in animal science.

He served in the U.S. Army in the early 60s and was a member of the Wilmington American Legion Post.

He was a farmer and owner of Ferdinand Refrigeration Service for many years

He was born Oct. 2, 1917 in Milford, the son of Peter and Lena Schaumburg Ferdinand.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ida Neukomm, whom he married Sept. 1, 1946 in Schwer, of Woodworth; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Ron Knapp of Cissna Park, Donna and Frank Perry of Watseka, Kay and Otis Chambers of Miami, Fla.; one brother, Wendell Ferdinand of Hoopeston; one sister, Gertrude Hofer of Watseka; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

One brother, Elmer Ferdinand, is deceased.

Mr. Ferdinand was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Schwer.

He served during World War II in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Cissna Park American Legion.

Lucille Heusing
former village treasurer

GRANT PARK -- Visitation for Lucille Heusing, 81, of Grant Park, will be 4-8 p.m. today at Hub Funeral Chapel in Grant Park, and from 10 a.m. Monday until the 11 a.m. service at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Grant Park. Rev. Beverly Zell will officiate.

Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park in Monee.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, where she was a member.

Mrs. Heusing died Friday (Sept. 19, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital.

She was the treasurer and secretary for the village of Grant Park for over 20 years.

She was born Oct. 8, 1921 in Sherburnville., the daughter of David and Mary Clark Hansen.

Her husband, Fred E. Heusing Jr., whom she married Dec. 8, 1946 in Sherburnville, died Feb. 27, 1974.

Surviving are one son, David L. Heusing, and his friend, Janet Qunell of Grant Park.

A sister, Georgie Wood, is deceased.

She enjoyed playing golf and was a Cubs baseball fan.

Joseph Mills

UKIAH, Calif. -- Joseph Mills, of Ukiah, Calif., formerly of Bourbonnais, died Friday (Sept. 19, 2003).

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Surviving are his wife, the former Joyce Knecht, whom he married at Maternity BVM Catholic Church in Bourbonnais, of Ukiah, Calif.; one son, Joseph; three daughters, Sharon, Karen and Michele; seven sisters, Margaret Mills and Elizabeth Arseneau, both of Bourbonnais, Eloise Smith of Wilmington, Jackie Bickenstaff of Glendale Heights, Ruth Solecki of Colorado, Jeannette Pelitier of Tennessee, and Eleanor Morris of Ukiah, Calif.; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Shirley Mills of Ocala, Fla.

His parents, Artie J. and Hazel Meyer Mills; and a sister, Audrey Krendregan, are deceased.

Mr. Mills was a graduate of Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School.
