Services were held Oct. 12 at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home in Joliet. Rev. Richard Ross officiated. Mrs. Larsen formerly worked for the Wunderlich Door Company in Joliet. She and her husband were involved with the Ingalls Park A.C. in Joliet. She was born in Ottawa, the daughter of William and Florence Duckworth. Her father is deceased. Surviving are her husband, James F. Larsen of Joliet; one daughter and son-in-law, Jodi Lyn and Mark Steel of Wheeling; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Mark and Linda Wenz of Plainfield, Sean "Bud" Wenz of Romeoville; her mother, Florence Flaherty of Ottawa; three grandchildren; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Lisa and John McLuckie of Coal City; two stepsons and one stepdaughter-in-law, Brian Larsen of Joliet, Greg and Pam Larsen of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, John and Diane Duckworth of Antioch and William Duckworth of Ottawa. One brother, James Duckworth; and one sister, Florence Andrews, are deceased. She was a graduate of Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts.

MESA, Ariz. -- Lucille Martin, 93, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Kankakee, died Saturday (Oct. 11, 2003) at the home of her daughter. Burial will be Friday in Queen of Heaven cemetery, Mesa, Ariz. Arrangements are by the Melcher Mission Chapel Mortuary in Mesa. She was born May 19, 1910, in Kankakee, the daughter of Louis and Mary Keigher LaMarre. Her husband of 50 years, Vernon Martin, is deceased. Surviving are three daughters, MaryAnn of Tucson, Ariz., Barbara of Mesa, Ariz., Myrna Kay of New Jersey; one sister, Zita of Chicago; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. One son, Gerry; two sisters and two brothers, are deceased. Mrs. Martin began her teaching career in the Taylor School House following graduation from St. Francis College in Joliet. She began teaching all eight grades in one room, and later taught first and second grade. After 37 years of teaching, she retired and moved with her husband to Mesa, Ariz. She was a member of the St. Anne Society and Catholic Daughters of America, where she served as grand regent. After moving to Arizona, she volunteered at Mesa Lutheran Hospital for many years.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Wilma W. Sauer, 99, of Friendship Village of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Spooner, Wis., and the cousin of Kankakee residents, died Sept. 10, 2003. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville, Ohio. A private graveside service will be held in Wascott cemetery, Wascott, Wis. Memorials may be made to the Spooner United Methodist Church, 312 Elm St., Spooner, WI 54801. McPeek Funeral Home, Granville, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements. She was born May 17, 1904, in Akron, Ind., the daughter of Arthur and Dora Witwer Weyrick. Her husband, Willard M. Sauer, died in 1984. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sue Sauer of Granville, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Daniel Driggett of Glendale Heights, Ill.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One brother and two sisters are deceased. She was a 1927 graduate of North Central College in Naperville. Mrs. Sauer was a former member of the Spooner United Methodist Church.
John Savage
WILMINGTON -- John Savage, 84, of Wilmington, died Monday (Oct. 13, 2003) at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. Thursday until the 10 a.m. services at the Reeves Funeral Home in Wilmington. Burial, with military honors, will be in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Savage was the former owner of Hidden Lakes Fee Fishing Resort in Wilmington. He was born Aug. 20, 1919, in Exeter, Pa., the son of Samuel and Anne Savage. Surviving are two brothers and one sister; nephews, Carl Savage, David Savage, Warren Savage, Howard Savage and Michael Savage; nieces, Merilee and Cherilee; and great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins. One brother, Howard; and one sister, Lillian, are deceased. Mr. Savage served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

She was born Nov. 11, 1977, in Killeen, Texas, the daughter of David Wayne and Norma J. Fouts Settles. Her mother is deceased. Surviving are two daughters, Krystina Smith and Kimberley Smith, both of Bourbonnais; one brother, David Settles II of Matteson; her father of Bourbonnais; maternal grandparents, Robert and Faith Fouts of Blue Island; paternal grandparents, Edward Settles of Shelburn, Ind. and Hazel Settles of Buckingham; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. One sister, Amy Settles, and two uncles, are deceased. She was a member of the Christian faith.

MINONK -- Kenneth R. Steinhilber, 75, of Heritage Manor, El Paso, formerly of Minonk and the father of a Gardner resident, died Monday (Oct. 13, 2003) at the nursing home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the 11 a.m. services at the Calvert and Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk Chapel. Rev. Connie Jenkins will officiate. Burial will be in Minonk Township cemetery. Memorials may be made to Heritage Manor, El Paso, or to the Minonk Food Pantry. Mr. Steinhilber worked for several years as a welder at Interlake in Pontiac, retiring in 1986. He was born July 10, 1928, in rural Minonk, the son of William and Mary Schleicher Steinhilber. PONTIAC -- James L. "Shorty" Stevenson, 82, of Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac, formerly of Dwight, died Monday (Oct. 13, 2003) at Evenglow Lodge. Cremation rites were accorded. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson Foundation or to the Dwight United Methodist Church, where he was a member. May 13, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo., died July 6, 1994. Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Vicki and Jerry Kahanec of Streator, Patti and Terry Solomon of Inverness, Jamie Stevenson of Amelia Island, Fla., Julie and Steve Briney of Mahomet; one sister, Wilma Neville of Dwight; seven grandchildren; and one niece. One brother, Robert W. Stevenson, is deceased. He was a graduate of Dwight Township High School. Mr. Stevenson served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the Eighth Air Force during World War II and was a life member of the VFW Post 2608, Dwight, and a member of the American Legion Post 486 in Dwight.

Danne L. Wagner, 43, of Kankakee and Bradley, died Sunday (Oct. 12, 2003) in the emergency room at Riverside Medical Center, after a sudden illness. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the 1 p.m. services at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Mr. Wagner was a processor for a local detective agency and had also worked at Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights. He was a graduate of Eastridge High School and attended Kankakee Community College. Mr. Wagner was a member of Calvary Bible Church. He was a NASCAR fan.

She was born April 6, 1964, in Kankakee, the daughter of Cleo and Vera Washington. Surviving are two sons, Wendell Renell Washington-Flournoy and Jerel Renez Washington-Flournoy; her parents of Hopkins Park; three sisters, Kharen Fulton of Atlanta, Ga., Merlyn Barnes of Momence, Jorgina Washington of Kankakee; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Robert and LaRita Washington of Momence, Kenneth and Natalie Washington, Derrick and Tammie Washington, all of Kankakee, Wayne Washington of Hopkins Park, Jared Washington of Chicago; the father of her children, Wendell Louis Flournoy; three goddaughters; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Her grandparents; and one brother, Cleo Ladell Washington, are deceased. She was a graduate of CIDAL High School in Hopkins Park. Miss Washington was a member of Greater St. Paul Baptist Church, where she was active in the Junior Choir and Usher Board. Her love for cooking and baking developed into a catering business. She enjoyed music, reading and traveling.

PEOTONE -- Earl Cantone, 69, of rural Peotone, died suddenly Tuesday (Oct. 14, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Peotone. Father Michael Ginter will officiate. Burial will be in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Pallbearers will be Michael, Anthony, Guy, Paul and Dean Cantone and Thomas Kuzma. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. Memorials may be made to the Liver Foundation for Kids or to the Peotone Fire Protection District. Mr. Cantone was currently working for the Will County Sheriff's Office as a court security officer for River Valley Justice Center. He was a former Illinois state trooper, former Illinois Secretary of State assistant superintendent and a former Peotone police officer. He was born Dec. 1, 1933, in Chicago, the son of Louis Sr. and Theresa Balzano Cantone. His parents are deceased. Mr. Cantone served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was on the Eastern Will County Senior Services Board of Directors, a member of the Ridgewood Cycle Association and trustee and secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peotone Fire Protection District since 1997.
