PIPER CITY -- Lorretta M. Kratz, 82, of Piper City, died Sunday (Sept. 28, 2003) at Greenbrier Healthcare Center. Arrangements are pending at the Reilly-Redenius Funeral Home in Piper City.

Berniece Mayhood

MARTINTON -- Berniece Mayhood, 91, of Martinton, died today (Sept. 29, 2003) at Manorcare Health Services in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Rosemary Reeves

MILFORD -- A funeral Mass for Rosemary A. Reeves, 72, of Milford, was celebrated Sept. 27 at St. Edmund's Catholic Church in Watseka. Rev. Lee Ryan officiated. Mrs. Reeves died Sept. 23, 2003. Burial was in Maple Grove cemetery in Milford. Pallbearers were Don Huff, James Smalley, Mark Henrichs, Bill and Jack Langellier and Robert Kissack.

Frank Owens

ST. ANNE -- Frank Owens, 62, of St. Anne, died Saturday (Sept. 27, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home in St. Anne. There will be no services. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the family wishes. Mr. Owens had worked at the St. Anne Foundry 16 years. He was born Sept. 28, 1940, in Harlan, Ky., the son of Steven and Lena King Owens. His parents are deceased. Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Ruth Williams, whom he married May 8, 1964, in Kankakee, of St. Anne; three daughters and one son-in-law, Amelia Owens and Sandra Owens, both of St. Anne, Judy and Todd Hartman of Herscher; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Roxie Carol of Clarksville, Tenn., Leatha and Chuck Sigo of Kentland, Ind., Bertha and Bill Blanton of St. Anne, Myrtle Smith of Tennessee, Hazel Moore of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, John L. Owens of St. Paul, Ind., Bill Owens of Golconda; five grandchildren; and special friends, Jim Davis and Frenchie Merino, both of St. Anne. One brother, Henry Clay Owens; two sisters, Bernice Gray and Johnny Zimms and an infant brother and sister, Edward and Edna Owens, are deceased. Mr. Owens served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed people and junking.

Clarence Siedentop
International Harvester dealer

HERSCHER -- Visitation for Clarence E. Siedentop, 96, of Herscher, will be from 3-8 p.m. today at the Herscher Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. services at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher, where he was a lifelong member. Rev. Mark Wenzel will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity cemetery in Herscher. Memorials may be made to Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth or Hospice of Kankakee Valley. He died Friday (Sept. 26, 2003) at his home. Mr. Siedentop was an International Harvester dealer in Herscher for many years. He was born June 28, 1907 in Herscher, the son of Albert and Petrea Anderson Siedentop. His wife, the former Fern Tatge, whom he married Aug. 28, 1937 in Homewood, died April 23, 2001. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald E. and Sue Siedentop of Kankakee, Dale E. and Bonnie Siedentop, Duane and Colleen Siedentop, all of Herscher; one sister, Evelyn Cartier of Kankakee; one sister-in-law, Cynthia Siedentop of Herscher; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. One brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Gertrude Siedentop; one brother, Leonard Siedentop; and one brother-in-law, Joseph Cartier, are deceased. He collected model farm equipment.

Fred Sieg

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- Fred C. Sieg, 84, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Kankakee, died Sunday (Sept. 28, 2003) at the Good Shepherd Hospice Residential Center in Auburndale from an intracerebral hematoma. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the Kersey Funeral Home, 108 E. Lake Stella Dr., Auburndale, Fla. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Kankakee. Mr. Sieg was a retired tool and die maker. He was born March 7, 1919, in Chicago, the son of Emil and Elizabeth Braun Sieg. His parents are deceased. His wife, Lillian T. Sieg, died in 1978. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra R. and Larry Maynard of Winter Haven; one sister, Ruth Wilson of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Karen E. Yohnka; and one great-grandson, Jacob Yohnka, are deceased. He was a resident of Winter Haven since 1981 moving from Kankakee. Mr. Sieg was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winter Haven and a member of the Winter Haven Moose Lodge.

Jack Verhines

Visitation for Jack V. Verhines, 49, of Altamont Springs, Fla., formerly of Kankakee, will be from 5 p.m. Wednesday until the 7 p.m. services at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Rev. Gregor Gorsic will officiate. Memorials may be made for his nephews' education. He died Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2003) at his home. Mr. Verhines was a car salesman. He was born March 2, 1954, in Panama (CoCo Solito Canal Zone), March 2, 1954, the son of Jack W. and Barbara VadeBoncoeur Verhines. His father is deceased. Surviving are his mother, Barbara Phillips of Carbondale; one sister, Cindi Verhines of Bradley; maternal grandmother, Lucille Gillespie of Kankakee; two nephews, David and Christopher Temple; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. His maternal grandfather, Jesse VadeBoncouer; and paternal grandparents, Clyde and Veoria Vorhines, are deceased. He enjoyed playing the guitar, music and reading.

Harvey Weerts

GILMAN -- Harvey E. Weerts, 91, of Gilman, formerly of Rankin and Cissna Park, died Friday (Sept. 26, 2003) at the Gilman Nursing Pavilion. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home in Paxton and from 10:30 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. services at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Paxton. Rev. Mark Diedrich will officiate. Burial will be in the Graceland cemetery in Fairbury. Memorials may be made to the Carle Hospice Program, Watseka, the Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Gideon Society or to the donor's choice. Mr. Weerts worked as a mechanic and carpenter in Fairbury, then farmed from 1942 until 1996. He was born April 23, 1912, in rural Ashkum, the son of William and Gertrude Johnson Weerts. His wife, the former Tema Claire Harvey, whom he married Feb. 6, 1938, in Fairbury, died April 11, 1994. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Myrna Weerts of Cissna Park; one daughter, Barbara Phelps of Clifton; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Elfrieda Jensen of Bloomington; one great-aunt, Marguerite Weerts of Peoria; and several other relatives. One sister is deceased. Mr. Weerts grew up on a farm west of Danforth. He was a 1929 graduate of Gilman High School and went to trade school at Bradley University studying mechanical engineering and draftsmanship. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Paxton, where he had taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. Mr. Weerts was a lifetime member of the Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau and active for many years in the Gideon organization. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry.

Rodney Arseneau

MARTINTON -- Rodney "Rod" L. Arseneau, 43, of Martinton, died Friday (Sept. 26, 2003) at Iroquois Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. Monday until the 8 p.m. service at Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home in St. Anne. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to Sheldon Meadows Nursing Home. Mr. Arseneau was born Jan. 9, 1960 in Kankakee, the son of Roger and Marlene Ward Arseneau. Surviving are his wife, the former Sienna Stirling, whom he married June 15, 2002 in Kankakee, of Martinton; two sons, Robert Arseneau of Bradley, Jason Stirling of Martinton; five daughters, Sheri Arseneau and Ashley Arseneau, both of Bradley, Brindy Arseneau and Shai Ann Arseneau, both of Watseka, and Amanda Williams of Champaign; one sister and brother-in-law, Debi and Robert Neilson of Bracefield; and his parents of St. Anne. His grandparents are deceased. Mr. Arseneau worked in the maintenance department at Sheldon Meadows. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Martin's Church in Martinton, and enjoyed working on the computer, motorcycles, fishing and family gatherings.

Frances Clodi

HERSCHER -- Frances H. Clodi, 92, of Herscher, died Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2003) at Provena Heritage Village. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Herscher, where she was a member. Rev. John Holup will officiate. Burial will be in St. Margaret Mary cemetery in Herscher. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley or the Herscher Fire Department. Arrangements are by the Herscher Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Mrs. Clodi was born Dec. 1, 1910 in Chicago, the daughter of Fred and Ida Waugh. Her husband, Joseph H. Clodi, whom she married Nov. 19, 1955 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Kankakee, died April 2, 1985. Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Clodi of St. Anne; one brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Aldona Clodi of Joliet; two nephews; six great-nieces and great-nephews; six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and several special friends. Three stepsisters are deceased. Mrs. Clodi was retired from A.O. Smith. She served during World War 2 in the U.S. Navy. She enjoyed antiques, reading, traveling, visiting and pets.

Flo Johnston

Flo Johnston, 79, of Kankakee, died July 12, 2003 at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. Mrs. Johnston taught band and chorus in public schools in Bloomington, Farmer City and in Smithville, Ind. She was born March 25, 1924, near Elliott, the daughter of Richard and Flossie Punke. She married Hugh W. Johnston July 27, 1947 in Urbana. Two brothers, Richard Punke and Henry Punke, are deceased. She was a graduate of Herscher High School and received a degree in music education and German from the University of Illinois.

Louise Kemnitz

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Louise Kemnitz, 89, of Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of Manteno, died Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2003). Private services were held. Cremation rites were accorded by the Burns Funeral Home Crematory in Hobart, Ind. Her husband, Edward Otto Kemnitz, is deceased. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Anita Kemnitz of Manteno, Jerome and Dianna Kemnitz of Nokomis, Fla.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Grace and Ron Barton of San Diego, Calif., Margaret DeYoung of Bourbonnais, Judy and Wayne Phillips of Nokomis, Fla. and Merilou and Jim Yoder of Valparaiso, Ind.

Kyle Komhyr

PINEWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. -- Kyle James Komhyr, 17, of Pinewood Springs, Colo., and grandson of a former Kankakee resident, died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2003) from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in rural Boulder County, Colo. A celebration of Kyle's life was held Sept. 21 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Boulder, Colo. Kyle was born March 6, 1986 in Boulder, Colo., the son of Brian D. and Pamela M. Pahl Komhyr. He lived in Lafayette most of his life and had recently moved to Pinewood Springs. Surviving in addition to his parents of Pinewood Springs, Colo., are a sister, Amy M. Komhyr of Thornton, Colo.; great-grandmother, Kay Cutler of Boulder, Colo.; paternal grandparents, Walter and Carol Komhyr of Boulder, Colo.; maternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, Arthur "Mick" and Sheila Pahl of Superior, Colo.; maternal grandmother, Kay Pahl of Broomfield, Colo., formerly of Kankakee; and a great-aunt and great-uncle of Momence. Kyle was a senior at Centaurus High School in Lafayette. He enjoyed four-wheeling, working on cars, and his job at the Lafayette Florist.

George Morrow

George Morrow Visitation for George Nelson Morrow Sr., 98, of Kankakee, will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee, and from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. services at the Second Baptist Church in Kankakee. Rev. Nathan N. Richmond Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery. He died Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center. Mr. Morrow was retired from the West Kankakee Foundry. He was born Oct. 22, 1904, in Bolivar, Tenn., the son of Henry and Ollie Hawkins Morrow. His wife, the former Annie Vaught, whom he married July 5, 1931, is deceased. Surviving are three sons, George Morrow Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., Robert Morrow and Burland Morrow, both of Kankakee; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One daughter, Elizabeth Morrow; and three sisters, Marie, Lucille and Matilda, are deceased. Mr. Morrow was a member and former trustee at Second Baptist Church.

Carmen O'Connor

CRESCENT CITY -- Visitation for Carmen M. O'Connor, 34, of Crescent City, will be 4-8 p.m. today at Baier Funeral Home, Watseka, where services will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Lee Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Sheldon cemetery. Memorials may be made for her children. Ms. O'Connor died Friday (Sept. 26, 2003). She was born July 2, 1969 in Bloomington, the daughter of John Gardner and Donna Harder. Surviving are her father, John Gardner of Lincoln; mother, Donna Harder of Watseka; one son, Kyle Popham, and one daughter, Samantha Newman, both of Crescent City; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Tonya and David Storm, Dawnee Nieman, both of Watseka, Tracie and Dennis Flock of Kankakee; one brother, Anthony Gardner of Kentland; and many nieces and nephews. Her grandparents and great-grandparents are deceased. Ms. O'Connor was employed by Roberts Friendship Home in Watseka. She was of the Catholic faith, and enjoyed boating and camping.
