Bond will officiate. Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Lax Mortuary in Kankakee is in charge of arrangements. She died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2003) at her home. Ms. Leftridge was a data processing supervisor at Baker and Taylor, retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement, she worked for Fashion Bug. She was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Ruth, Miss., the daughter of Hugh and Mary Osby Magee. Her parents are deceased. She married
William Leftridge in 1955. He is deceased. Surviving are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Terence Leftridge of Tacoma, Wash., Dwayne Leftridge and Gregory and Diane Leftridge, all of Momence; one sister and brother-in-law, Juliette and James Woodard of Momence; two uncles, Rufus Washington of Oakland, Calif., Jesse Magee of McComb, Miss.; dear friend, Sally Nicholes-Sykes of Sun River Terrace; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several other relatives. She was a graduate of DuSable High School. Ms. Leftridge was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was involved in the Puppet Ministry and Church Women United. She enjoyed devoting her time to church ministries.

BEECHER -- Carrie Schmidt Lohmann, 97, of Beecher, died Monday (Sept. 15, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Visitation was 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hack Funeral Home in Beecher. Services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Beecher, where she was a member. Rev. Maynard Toensing officiated. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. She was born Jan. 18, 1906, in Beecher, the daughter of August and Louise Freerking Wehrmann. Her first husband, William F. Schmidt, died in 1963. She then married
John Lohmann. He died in 1996. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Dolores Schmidt of Beecher; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lorraine and Orland Voigt and Ruth Hardy, all of Grant Park, Irene and Norman Heldt of Kankakee; one sister, Rosella Matthias of South Chicago Heights; two brothers, Arnold Wehrmann of Beecher, Alvin Wehrmann; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. One son, Willard, who died in 1998; one brother, Elmer Wehrmann; and one sister, Edna Klemme, are deceased.

CHATSWORTH -- Bobby A. Tooley, 67, of Heritage Manor, Colfax, formerly of Chatsworth, died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2003) at Heritage Manor. Private family services will be held. Cremation rites will be accorded. Hager Memorial Home in Dwight is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Tooley was a painter. He was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Elkton, Ky., the son of Walton and Mable Robinson Tooley. Surviving are four sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Donald Lade of Chatsworth, Pauline and Glenn Iler of Bloomington, Noreen and Harald Hand of Peoria, Patricia and Randal Dempsey of Effingham; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and June Tooley of Phoenix, Ariz., James and Kay Tooley of Peoria; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was a Baptist.

Wasser, 92, of Danville, formerly of Kankakee, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, with a 10 a.m. Order of the Eastern Star ritual service and 11 a.m. funeral services at the Senesac Kankakee Funeral Home. Rev. Herbert M. Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens cemetery. Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She died Wednesday (Sept. 17, 2003) at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Mrs. Wasser was a homemaker. She was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Kentland, Ind., the daughter of John and Elizabeth Einfeldt Balk. April 28, 1934, in Kankakee, died March 6, 1974. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Lana Wasser of Oakwood, Robert and Norma Wasser of Kankakee; four grandchildren, Joe and Maria Wasser of Kennesaw, Ga., Liz and Randy Bedford of Mendota, Dave Wasser of Bloomington, Katie and Dave Marrow of Indianola; seven great-grandchildren, Lexi, Shelby, Tony, Brittany, Starr, Jenna and Janie and one on the way; and two step-great-grandchildren, Addison and Noah. One daughter-in-law, Kris Wasser, is deceased. She resided in Kankakee the majority of her life. Mrs. Wasser was a long-standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 169 in Remington, Ind., where she recently was awarded the Diamond Jubilee pin for her 75 years of membership. She liked to play bingo, Bunko and do word search puzzles. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Georgienne and Dr. Joseph Cleveland of Castle Rock, Colo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Suzanne Burow of Kingsport, Tenn.; four grandsons, Craig Burow of Huntsville, Ala., David Burow of Troy, N.Y., Dr. Joseph Cleveland II of Denver, Colo., Jonathan Cleveland of Edina, Minn.; and four great-grandchildren. One brother, Howard Wilcox; and one sister, Virdelle Wilcox Siedentop, are deceased. Mrs. Burow was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Danville and, while spending her last few years with her son, attended Preston Hills Presbyterian Church in Kingsport, Tenn. She graduated from Herscher High School in 1927 where she was in the band and co-editor of the yearbook. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1931 with a degree in history and was a member of Beta Sigma Omicron. She was a teacher in the Girard, Ill., School System until her marriage. She was then a substitute teacher in the Danville School System, where she had Dick Van Dyke in high school classes. She served several years as a precinct judge for the Vermilion County Election Commission. Mrs. Burow was a member of Danville Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron in 1950. She was a member of the Kingsport Assembly of the Social Order of the Beauceant. She traveled to Masonic meetings in North and South America and Europe with her husband George Burow 33 Grand Minister of State for the Scottish Rite Northern Masonic Jurisdiction and Knight of the Purple Cross, York Rite Sovereign College of North America. She was a life member of the Vermilion County Museum Society and the Netherland Inn / Exchange Place Association. She was a member of the Vermilion County Retired Teachers Association She was a member of the First Families of Massachusetts -- a descendant of John Whitney who came to Watertown, Mass., in 1635 and the Daughters of the American Revolution -- a descendant of Oliver Whitney who fought in the Natick, Mass., Regiment.

One daughter, Gloria Johnson, is deceased. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Service medal with two bronze stars and the Army Commendation medal. WILMINGTON -- Margaret M. "Marge" Kahler, 80, of Wilmington, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) at her home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, where she was a member. Rev. Frank Vitus and Deacon Donald Dyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood cemetery in Wilmington. Memorials may be made to St. Rose School, Joliet Area Community Hospice or to the Diabetes Association. Mrs. Kahler along with her husband John owned and operated Kahlers Gas Station in Wilmington for many years, until their retirement in 1990. She was born April 9, 1923, in Joliet, the daughter of John and Anna Ondrey Popik. Her husband, John Kahler, died in 1992. Surviving are one son, Jack Kahler of the Philippines; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ray Sundine of Wilmington; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Bernadine and Eugene Stein of Joliet and Anna Mae Dowd of Virginia; one brother and sister-in-law, Hervey and Dorothy Kahler of Wilmington; one daughter-in-law, Susan Kahler of Wilmington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. One granddaughter, Sheila Rae; and one sister, Lillian Peceniak, are deceased. She was a Cubs fan and enthusiast of many sports.

MORRIS -- Emma Morene Lear, 96, of Morris, and the sister of a Coal City resident, died Saturday (Sept. 6, 2003) at the Grundy County Home in Morris. Services were held Sept. 10 at the U.C. Davis and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Ostrander officiated. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. MABANK, Texas -- Edward Charles LeCocq, 82, of Mabank, Texas, formerly of Martinton, died Thursday (Sept. 11, 2003) at Cedar Creek Lake in Mabank. Services will be held Monday in Payne Springs, Texas. Burial will be in Frost, Texas. Memorials may be made to the Payne Springs United Methodist Men's Fund, 9667 St. Hwy. 198, Mabank, TX 75156. He was born Oct. 24, 1920, in Martinton, the son of Edward H. and Lillie LaSage LeCocq. Surviving are his wife, Willene LeCocq; two daughters, Adrienne Mrozek of Cincinnati, Ohio, Janet Powell of Irving, Texas; one son, Melvin Shuler Jr.; one brother, Melvin LeCocq of Bourbonnais; one sister, Evelyn Coxey of Sterling City, Texas; and nine grandchildren. Two daughters, Patricia LeCocq and Jill Hopton-Jones, are deceased. Mr. LeCocq served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the 15th Battalion of the Sea Bees and was a member of the American Legion Post 310.
