The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, the Rev. Tom Ewing officiating. Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee. She was born June 19, 1918, at Monee, to Charles and Martha Gray Buchmeier. She married
Oliver Claus on Oct. 14, 1939, in Chicago Heights. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Redgie and Chrystal Claus of Beecher, and Dennis and Pat Claus of Beecher; a sister, Dorothy Clausing of Beecher; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Tommy; brothers, Harvey, Carl and Earl Buchmeier; and sisters, Pearl Hanson and Ellen Fouts. She was retired from Hiatt Clinic. She belonged to St. Luke United Church of Christ.

Gerald H. Stoltz, 74, of Kankakee, died Friday (Sept. 12, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church.
Leonard Lucius
MOMENCE -- Services for Leonard Lucius, 78, of Momence, were held Sept. 11 at the Church of the Cross. Rev. Aaron Crowell officiated. Mr. Lucius died Sept. 4, 2003. Burial, with full military rites, was in the Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood. Pallbearers were Kevin, Lyndon and Marcus Lucius, Tracy McKay, Kenneth Jones Jr. and Eric Springer.
Clifford Calhoun
Services for Clifford "Jack" Calhoun Sr., 88, of Kankakee, were held Sept. 13 at Lax Mortuary. Rev. Robert Harwell officiated. Mr. Calhoun died Sept. 8, 2003. Burial was in Mound Grove Gardens cemetery. Pallbearers were Clifford III, Eddie, Craig and Tonee Calhoun, Ronald Jones and David Smith.

COAL CITY -- Catherine "Katie" Viano, 90, of Coal City, died Friday (Sept. 12, 2003), at the Grundy County Home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where she was a member. Rev. Doug Martis will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery in Wilmington. Pallbearers will be Mark Enrietta, Brent Clavin, Joe Davito, Jim Viano, Mike Schmidt and Eric Kodat. Memorials may be made to Hospice or to the Grundy County Home Activity Fund. Mrs. Viano was one of the first local school bus drivers, using her own vehicle to bus children to school. She was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Braidwood, the daughter of James and Theresa Pomatto Motta. Her husband, Ernest Viano, whom she married
Aug. 31, 1935, is deceased. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Barbara Viano of Coal City, James and Dorene Viano of Braidwood; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine Motta; and several nieces. One brother, Sabastian Motta; and one sister, Barbara Cherry, are deceased. She was raised and educated in Braidwood and loved gardening and farming.

MANTENO -- Services for Donald Zessack, 80, of Mt. Prospect, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel in the Illinois Veterans Home, Manteno. Deacon Joe Cotugno will officiate. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno. Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Manteno is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Zessack died Thursday (Sept. 11, 2003) at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno. He was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Chicago, the son of Harry and Martha Bittner Zessack. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Dompke, of Mt. Prospect; one brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Patricia Zessack; and two brothers-in-law, William and Marlene Scharlau and Richard and Gayle Dompke. One son, Gary Zessack, is deceased. Mr. Zessack served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine.

Mary A. Ams, 91, of Kankakee, died Sunday (Sept. 14, 2003) at Provena Our Lady of Victory Nursing Home in Bourbonnais. Visitation will be from 9-10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Ms. Ams was a retired housekeeper from St. Mary's Hospital. She was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Ruma Yugoslavia, the daughter of Frank and Marie Buck Ams. Surviving are one nephew, George and Shirley Offenbecker of Bourbonnais; two nieces, Elisabeth and Stephan Baker of Kankakee, Susanna and James Foster of Clinton, Iowa; three grandnephews and one grandniece. One sister and two brothers are deceased. Ms. Ams was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kankakee. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

COAL CITY -- James P. Anderson, 92, of Coal City, died Sunday (Sept. 14, 2003) at Morris Hospital. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where he was a member. Rev. Mike Pennock will officiate. Mr. Anderson was employed for 39 years at the Atlas Wall Paper Mill in Coal City, retiring in 1968. He was born March 11, 1911, in Coal City, the son of David and Agnes Lawler Anderson. Feb. 3, 1937, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington; one son, David James Anderson of Coal City; one daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Richard Planeta of Coal City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Basil, Jack and Audrey; one sister, Arline Ryan and triplet sisters in infancy, are deceased. He was a 1929 graduate of Coal City High School. Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a Cubs fan and sports enthusiast.

Mr. Beck had been a manager of the Kroger Store in Kankakee and retired from Sears after 30 years of service. He was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Chebanse, the son of Charles F. and Mary McLaughlin Beck. May 16, 1942, at St. Mary's Chapel, Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clement Beck of Kankakee, Charles and Jane Beck of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Margaret Wilking of Chebanse; and many nieces and nephews. One daughter, Janet Arseneau; one son, Darryl in infancy; one son-in-law, Brian Arseneau; three brothers, Francis, James and Paul; and one sister, Mary, are deceased. He was a graduate of Chebanse High School. Mr. Beck served in the U.S. Air Force as a chief warrant officer during World War II and was a member of the Kankakee American Legion Post 85. He was a sports fan.
