Sr. Joan Kirchman

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Sr. Joan Kirchman, D.C., 69, of Indianapolis, Ind., the sister of area residents, died Thursday (Sept. 11, 2003) at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 13 in the chapel at St. Augustine Home. Burial was in Holy Cross cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind. Memorials may be made to the Daughters of Charity Foundation, 9200 New Harmony Road, Evansville, IN 47720-8912. She was born Sept. 11, 1934 in Kankakee and became a Daughter of Charity on Sept. 24, 1954. Surviving are three sisters and brothers-in-law, Doreen and Armand Lagacy of Momence, Linda and Steve Freitag of Kankakee, Estelle and Harvey Springer of Bradley; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, M. Frank and Avanell Kirchman of Roseville, Calif., Russell and Patty Kirchman of Peotone and Richard Kirchman of Miami Beach, Fla.; 17 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Her mother, Marie Estelle Longtin and her father, Merdov W. Kirchman, are deceased. Sister Joan worked as as dietitian, director of dietary and administrative assistant, serving at Hotel Dieu and Charity Hospitals in New Orleans; St. Mary's Hospital, Evansville, Ind.; U.S. Public Health Sanitarium, Carville, La.; St. Mary's Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis.; and Allen Memorial Home, Mobile, Ala. In addition, she served as assistant administrator at Seton Residence in Evansville, and spent five years as the coordinator of switchboard and information services at the Mother House in Paris, France. Her most recent mission was at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, where she worked in the Medical Records Department of the Primary Care Center.

David Stone

WATSEKA -- Services for David L. Stone, 56, of Watseka, were held Sept. 13 at the Glenn Raymond Middle School in Watseka. Pastors Lonnie Laughlin and Jim Harkins officiated. Mr. Stone died Sept. 9, 2003. Burial was in Body cemetery, Woodland. Pallbearers were Britt Aaron, Reed Page, Paul Yenerich, Keith Taylor, Tom Burger, Marc Hartke and Bob Flesher.

Roberta St. Aubin

A funeral Mass for Roberta I. St. Aubin, 65, of Bradley, was celebrated Sept. 15 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Rev. John Antczak officiated. Mrs. St. Aubin died Sept. 11, 2003. Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery in Manteno. Pallbearers were Randy, Daniel, Ben, Kathryn and David King, Charles and Bill Gress and Mark Yonke.

Gerald Stoltz
35-year Roper industrial engineer

Visitation for Gerald H. Stoltz, 74, of Kankakee, will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, where he was a member. Inurnment will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley. He died Friday (Sept. 12, 2003) at his home. Mr. Stoltz retired from Roper's after 35 years of service as an industrial engineer. He had also worked part-time as a floral designer at Faber Floral until he became ill. He was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Kankakee, the son of Herman and Dorothy Faber Stoltz. His first wife, the former Gloria Martell, whom he married Oct. 5, 1952, died in November 1975. Surviving are his wife, the former Janifer Buchanan, whom he married March 11, 1976, in Kankakee; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Pamela and Gregory Bigler of Savoy, Julia and Keith Leatherman of Fort Wayne, Ind., Cynthia and Mounir Helou of Santa Clarita, Calif., Celia Stoltz of Bourbonnais; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery and Gretchen Stoltz of Kankakee, Scott and Mary Stoltz of Elgin; one stepdaughter, Jamarie McKenzie of Bloomington; five stepsons, Jeffrey Bowman of California, Joseph Bowman of Austin, Texas, John Jay Bowman of Florida, James Bowman of Texas, Jerrold Bowman of Tennessee; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Delores Nelson of Kankakee and Joann and Robert Paton of Fairfield Glade, Tenn. One brother, Leonard Stoltz, is deceased. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a past member of the Roper's Keyman Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Elk's Club of Georgia. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing.

GILMAN -- Virgel C. Wilborn, 72, of Gilman, died suddenly Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) at his home. There will be no visitation. Private services will be held Tuesday at the Redenius Funeral Home in Gilman. Rev. James Small will officiate. Burial will be in the Gilman cemetery. Mr. Wilborn was a self-employed carpenter. He was born Feb. 6, 1931, in Tompkinsville, Ky., the son of John Alvin and Mae Wiley Wilborn. Surviving are his wife, the former Mabel C. Allen, whom he married Jan. 22, 1951, in Bloomington; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia "Jenny" and J.R. Schultz of Remington, Ind.; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Darrell Wilborn of Rantoul, Denton Wilborn of Milford, Delbert and Sandra Wilborn of Streator; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Emberton of Tompkinsville, Ky., Flo Levang of Florida; two brothers, Walter Wilborn of Temple Hill, Ky. and Hughie Wilborn of Florida. One sister, Violet McCain, is deceased. He attended the Baptist Church.

WATSEKA -- Visitation for Lorene Brady, 86, of Watseka, will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Centennial Christian Church in Watseka, where she was a member. Joe Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery in Watseka. She died Sunday (Sept. 14, 2003) at Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee. Mrs. Brady operated a catering business in Watseka for over 35 years. She was born Aug. 17, 1917, in Parkin, Ark., the daughter of Ferdinand and Martha Walker Foster. Surviving are her husband, Art Brady, whom she married Nov. 30, 1940, in Kankakee, of Watseka; one son, Arthur Lariel Brady of Miami, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and William McDonal of Chicago; one grandchild, Angela Dalton McKelvey; and one great-grandchild. One brother and two sisters are deceased.

James Craft

STREATOR -- James Christopher Craft, 29, of Streator, the son-in-law of a Braidwood resident, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) at his home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Elias Funeral Home in Streator, where a celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Jamie Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery in Streator. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Craft, Jason Schneider, Don Westerhold, Bill Scarratt Jr., Lee McMahon, Brian Pflibsen and Joseph "Jake" Spraggon. Memorials may be made to his family. Mr. Craft was a member of Local 601 IBEW in Champaign. He was born March 8, 1974, in Streator. Surviving are his wife, the former Kathlyn Quirk, whom he married May 5, 2001; one son, Braden Craft at home; one daughter, Madeleine Craft at home; his parents, James (Shari) Craft of Normal and Diane (Gerald) Englert of Streator; one brother, Scott M. Craft of Streator; one sister, Jessica L. Craft of Davenport, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Priscilla Craft of Streator; maternal grandparents, William Scarratt Sr. and Lucille Scarratt, both of Streator; mother-in-law, Debora (Robert) Koff of Braidwood; father-in-law, Michael (Michelle) Quirk of Hinsdale; several aunts and uncles; one stepbrother, Donald (Lisa) Conant of Morton; and one stepsister, Amy (Ronald) Stork of Danvers. His paternal grandfather, Morgan C. Craft, is deceased. He was a 1992 graduate of Streator Township High School and a member of Park Presbyterian Church in Streator.

Charles Davis

METROPOLIS -- Charles "Bill" Davis, 83, of Metropolis, formerly of Chebanse, died Monday (Sept. 15, 2003) at Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Thursday until the 2 p.m. services at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Craig will officiate. Burial, with military rites, will be in the IOOF cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association Midwest Chapter, Glenbrook Medical Office Building South, 2050 Pfingsten Road, Suite 127, Glenview, IL 60025. Mr. Davis was a retired lockmaster with the Army Corps of Engineers. His wife, Gladys Moore Davis, is deceased. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Earnest Graham of Clifton; one sister, Naomi Reed of Bargersville, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. His parents, Charles and Miley Walters Davis; one daughter, Anna Wrye; one granddaughter, Rebecca "Missy" Graham; two sisters, Ruth Worthen and Violet Bowman Nelson; and one brother, James Wesley Davis, are deceased. He served in the 3rd Army Brigade during World War II and in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW Post 3847. He was a member of the Brookport Baptist Church.

Dianna Hanson

PAXTON -- Dianna M. Hanson, 65, of Paxton and the relative of area residents, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) at Provena Covenant Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Knapp-Miller Funeral Home in Paxton. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Elliott, where she was a member. Revs. Lisa Goodwin and Jeff Cottingham will officiate. Burial will be in Pontoppidan Lutheran Church cemetery in Elliott. Memorials may be made to Pontoppidan Lutheran Church. She was born April 25, 1938, in Champaign, the daughter of John B. and Elizabeth Porth Craft. Her husband, Harry L. Hanson, whom she married Aug. 28, 1955, in Elliott, died May 24, 1999. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Susan Hanson of Paxton; one daughter, Vicki Maulding of Paxton; one sister and brother-in-law, Ella Mae and Louis Miller of Gibson City; one brother, Art Craft of Paxton; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Nine brothers and sisters are deceased. She enjoyed crafts and working on word puzzle books.

Trina Harris

Trina Harris, assistant manager of gas station Trina Marie Harris, 40, of Kankakee, died Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003). Visitation was from 10 a.m. today until the 11 a.m. services at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Bourbonnais, where she was a member. Bishop Ed Jackson officiated. Cremation rites were accorded. Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Harris was assistant manager of the BP gas station on Court St. She was born Aug. 6, 1963 in Kankakee. Surviving are her husband, Kevin D. Harris, whom she married Dec. 7, 2002; three sons, Matthew Geiger, David Geiger and Auston Geiger, all of Kankakee; one daughter, Amanda Geiger of Kankakee; three stepdaughters, Erica Campbell of Kankakee, Marlyna Bolton and Precious Bolton, both of Jackson, Tenn.; two stepsons, Equillius Bolton of Jackson, Tenn., Addison Harris of Tutwiler, Miss.; two brothers-in-law, Rod Harris of Kankakee, Micheal Harris of Minneapolis, Minn.; four sisters-in-law, Angela Barlow of Fairfield, Ohio, Barbara Counts, Holly Harris of Cleveland, Ohio, Kay Harris of Gary, Ind.; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Her father and mother, Michael O'Connor and Betty Nordmeyer, are deceased. Mrs. Harris loved her job and loved to read novels.

Margie Hartman

Margie Hartman, 25-year Riverside dietary employee Margie Ann Hartman, 61, of Kankakee died Sunday (Sept. 14, 2003) at her home in rural Kankakee. There will be no visitation. Graveside inurnment services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sunnyslope cemetery in Saunemin. Rev. John Story will officiate. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, 1015 N. 5th Ave., Kankakee, IL 60901. Arrangements are by the Harris-Martin-Burke Funeral Home of Cullom. Mrs. Hartman had retired from the dietary department of Riverside Medical Center, where she had been employed for 25 years. She was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Saunemin, the daughter of Forrest and Edna Adkins Deweese. Her parents are deceased. Surviving are her husband, Gerald Eugene Hartman, whom she married July 5, 1977, in Pontiac, of Kankakee; two sons, Michael Moore of Shreveport, La., Jeffery Moore of Kankakee; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Billy Jones of Shreveport, La.; two stepsons and one step-daughter-in-law, Randy Hartman of Kankakee, Todd and Judy Hartman of Herscher; 26 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Dee and Bob Fitzwater of Jasper, Texas. One stepdaughter, Tari Sue Hartman Stuart, is deceased. Mrs. Hartman was a graduate of Saunemin High School and enjoyed camping, bowling and people. She collected stuffed animals.

Georgette C. "Sarge" Hudson

Visitation for Georgette C. "Sarge" Hudson, 82, of Bradley, will be from 10:30 a.m. Thursday until the 12:30 p.m. services at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Jeff Crosno will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. She died Sunday (Sept. 14, 2003) at Bradley Royale Health Care Center. Mrs. Hudson was a machine operator for Electro-Motive in LaGrange for 16 years, retiring in 1972. She was born Oct. 25, 1920, in Kankakee, the daughter of George H. and Mary Jane Provost Papineau. Surviving are her husband, John E. Hudson, whom she married Oct. 23, 1948, in Joliet, of Bradley; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Sharon Hudson of Bradley; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Melina and Leonard Flagale of Kankakee, Evelyn Cassidy and Betty Walters, both of Kankakee, Jeanette Fox of Sun City, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Goldi Sapp of Bourbonnais; and several nieces and nephews. Several brothers and sisters are deceased. Mrs. Hudson was a member of the Catholic faith. She was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans for 52 years.

Carrie Lohmann

BEECHER -- Carrie Schmidt Lohmann, 97, of Beecher, died Monday (Sept. 15, 2003) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hack Funeral Home in Beecher. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Beecher, where she was a member. Rev. Maynard Toensing will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. She was born Jan. 18, 1906, in Beecher, the daughter of August and Louise Freerking Wehrmann. Her first husband, William F. Schmidt, died in 1963. She then married John Lohmann. He died in 1996. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Dolores Schmidt of Beecher; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lorraine and Orland Voigt and Ruth Hardy, all of Grant Park, Irene and Norman Heldt of Kankakee; one sister, Rosella Matthias of So. Chicago Heights; one brother, Arnold Wehrmann of Beecher; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. One son, Willard, died in 1998.

PEOTONE -- Reuben Schmidt, 89, of Peotone, died Monday (Sept. 15, 2003) at St. James Olympia Fields Hospital. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fedde-Helfrich Chapel, Peotone. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's United Church of Christ, north Peotone, where he was a member. Rev. Bruce Salter will officiate. Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee. Pallbearers will be Joe Baker, Glenn Nagel, Don Thurman, Wayne Wiechen, Jack Pierce and Willis Schrage. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Belz and Arnold Wolters. Memorials may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, north Peotone. Mr. Schmidt was a retired owner, operator and salesman for a Ford car dealership in Peotone and a former farmer. He was born March 7, 1914, in Green Garden Township, the son of Edward and Selma Sippel Schmidt. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Wilke, whom he married Nov. 22, 1936, in Peotone; one brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Marjorie Schmidt of Manhattan; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Schmidt was a former church board member. He enjoyed bowling.
